in the UK, the rat 7 is being released on the 6th of sept and the price is £90 from amazon. why is it that it's $75 on amazon.com ? does that mean that the price in the UK will fall? some other sites have had it for around 60 but they are all out of stock, and when contacted, say that they dont know when they will come in. i really want to get the rat 7 but £90 is a bit too much

Should be interesting... This mouse looks like its straight out of transformers and ever so deadly.... It all comes down to whether Mad Catz can make a product that lasts longer than 6 months.

For me they have not. :(

I think there nice mice, I would buy one. After looking at the madcatz mice for a bit, and seeing a newer razer mouse, it kinda puts the razer mouse to shame really.

^ most other mice have more technology and puts razer to shame really, for example, a tiny 2.4ghz wireless reciever on the logitech g700, compared to a hugh mamba dock. Razer is profitable because it emphasizes on style and design and their loyal fanboys. Imo, theres always a better mouse than razer that costs less.

All gaming mice are pretty much equal these days in terms of performance. They've all got 1ms response/1,000Hz polling, and upwards of 3,000 DPI, which is more than anyone realistically needs. Anything beyond that is 100% personal preference.

I have tried all kinds of mice from a variety of manufacturers, and nothing has come close to the Logitech MX 518 for performance, comfort, and compatibility. I saw this Madcatz mouse in Maximum PC, and it just doesn't look like it would be very comfortable unless you have large hands.

You're right, 100% personal preference, but having more buttons wont hurt, heck if it might, then having cool function like hyperscrolling definately will not. My question would be why pay more for razer then? I mean if most mice came with 1ms, 3000 dpi? To add insult, they are known to be shoddily built and dont last. The only answer i can think of is "fanboy" and "looks"

You have to feel it first hand, and also try to use its many customization before you make this judgement.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've been happy with my Razer stuff over the years. My original DeathAdder from 2007 still works (and looks) like brand new, along with my 3,500 DPI DeathAdder, Mamba, Orochi, and eXactMat, as well as my Belkin/Razer N52te. The only thing I've ever had a problem with was the Carcharias (mic failure), which Razer replaced under warranty and has been just fine since.

I don't need more than 5 buttons out of a mouse, and out of all the things I've tried, the DeathAdder/Mamba form factor is the most comfortable mouse I've ever used, including the Logitech MX518, G9, and Microsoft Sidewinder that I used to own.

I have been using my RAT 7 about two weeks and it is very nice. The mouse is very comfortable and with all the adjustments it fits my hand perfectly. Comfort is one of the biggest reasons I buy a mouse and the RAT is by far the best feeling mouse I have ever used.

I am comparing this mouse to my old logi LX8, a Razor Deathadder, and my OCZ eclipse. In the hand feel was nice for each of the above mice which is why I liked them.

The logi LX8 was a nice mouse. It was not a gaming mouse but fit my hand pretty well. Tracking was decent and dpi although not all that high worked for me. After hours of gaming my hand would get cramps at times so although I like it its just a average mouse.

The razor deathadder was a mouse I was often recommended to buy. My friend has one and I have used it a bit. This mouse is much smoother than the LX8 and my hand doesn't grip quite as much as it does with the LX8. It is also wired which I prefer for gaming. I hate swapping batteries mid game lol. Fast tracking too with 3500dpi.

The OCZ eclipse really impressed me. Its a cheap mouse that has adjustable weights, tracks fast, has profiles, and fits my hand. Mine is still working great although I have heard some break quite fast. Because of that and the fact the mouse is EOL I don't recommend it anymore although I am still very happy with mine. Its the mouse I keep in my laptop bag currently.

Now back to the RAT 7.
It is really fast, 5600 dpi is a tad much for me actually. It is precise too. Comfort is a no brainer, the mouse fits to my hand. I laid my hand in a relaxed position then adjusted the mouse so that all the buttons fit where my fingers and thumb naturally want to rest. Then I swapped out the palm grip and checked the weights. I have not played with the profiles at all and have not used the software for anything other than the precision aim button (which works very well).

Hey guys, new here. Pretty much the only link related specifically to the RAT 9 that shows up when using google :p Just wanted to give anyone whos interested my 2 cents. I've already fully paid for the 9 version of the RAT. Ordered it from Comet® Supply — Discount Business and Consumer Equipment and Supplies. Got it for about $100. I called their customer support the other day, about a week ago actually, and they told me that the date they received from mad kats (saitek) was october 10th. If that's true then I expect my RAT 9 to be here in only a few days. If that is the case I'll post an update here, I'll also post if I DONT receive the mouse by the 15th. Just letting you all know cause you cant find a date anywhere else for this thing, and I just can't wait...

Oh, small edit, figured I might as well share my mouse experience. I've got bigger than normal hands, and any gamer with big hands knows a comfortable mouse is hard to come by. My personal favorite right now is the microsoft sidewinder. I'm pretty sure its not the BIGGEST gaming mouse out there, but it's big enough in my opinion. It has a really nice feel, its got longer left/right click buttons which are comfy on my fingers. Also the Mouse 3 Mouse 4 (the thumb buttons) are vertical as opposed to the traditional horizontal buttons. It's a nice touch so you dont have to bend your thumb to hit the inner one, or do that awkward movement where you try to push the inner button with the knuckle of your thumb. Overall its a nice mouse, standard 3 profile DPI quick change buttons, and a textured metal scroll wheel. It's a durable mouse, has custom weight options, again, pretty much standard gaming mouse, but nice for big hands. It's actually my second sidewinder that I'm using at the moment, my first one was killed in a horrible USB splitter hub that overheated and MELTED a few of my USB device plugs... Also, in the time between my 2 sidewinders, I picked up another nice mouse that fit my hand nicely. It was a cheaper mouse, $30, called the OCZ behemoth. Again, good mouse, nice for big hands, boasted that whole dual laser technology nonsense, nothing special in my opinion... Had a very solid left/right click, required more force than most mice, but not too much that it was bothersome. The software for that mouse also had a few quirks, didnt occur all the time, or even that often. I'd say maybe once a month, but it would just act funny... Randomly move as if I dragged it downward about a foot, then it would work like normal again. Lost me a few nice headshots from time to time... But for the price, and in a pinch, it was worth it. If anyone cared to read all this I hope it was useful in someway, and again, I'll update you all on the RAT 9 as soon as I can. Later!

Thanks for the links. I've checked out a lot of "unboxing" videos and demonstrations for the RAT 7 already. I know I'm going to love this mouse. Even though all my hater friends think its ugly... ha, goes to show what they know.

Also, if you havent already, from the saitek site you can click the RAT 9 buy now button and on the page that it takes you to you can enter an email to be notified when it's officially available. Fingers crossed that its tomorrow.

you probably won't get it till the end of the month. @ least you don't have to wait 2 more months for it to be OFFICIALLY released.

maybe if you got someone to order w/ you could get it faster!

Production problems it seems? The RAT 9 will be a very notebook unfriendly mouse anyway. I dont think it can be used as wired.

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply. As most people may know the RAT 9 is STILL not released yet. The date of November somthingth was just a bit too much to bear for me. So I changed my order on cometsupply.com to cancel my RAT 9 and just going with the RAT 7 instead. I know its not wireless, but they sell the RAT 7 for only like, 80 bucks, very worth it IMO. After I thought about it for a while, I realized my computer set up would kinda be more of a hassle than a help with a wireless mouse. If I'm doing some consistent gaming, I can be there for a good 10 hours... I don't wanna have to worry about changing a battery while I'm in the middle of playing. It's not like I'm playing from across the room :/ If you didn't know, the RAT 7 is the EXACT same as the RAT 9, sans the wireless. In short, my RAT 7 should be here within the week and I'll let you know how it is as soon as I get it.

Oh and I forgot to mention, my decision to go from the 9 to the 7 was also influenced by a call to the customer support at cometsupply. This was my 3rd call to them each regarding the RAT 9. The first two times I called I was informed of the later and later scheduled release dates they received from saitek. So the third time I called them, they told me they didn't have a date after the 10th of October. They said realistically, it COULD be till late November to early December when they get the mouse in stock. That followed with me asking if they had the RAT 7 in stock, and then promptly changing my order. I suggest anyone else waiting for the RAT 9 just for the wireless, re-evaluate your decision and see if the 7 could work just as well for you. For only 80 bucks, I feel it's like getting this mouse for a steal. If not, hopefully it comes out soon, so you all can enjoy their own RAT.

    Sorry, I don't own a camera. But I can post a review.

First off, there is no argument when it comes to comfortability. It is FULLY customizable. Length wise width wise, it fits my big hands perfectly.

Ok, first cool feature, the mouse buttons. You know how most mouse buttons, especially gaming mice, are incredibly easy to click on the furthest end of the mouse? Well, this mouse solves the problem for people with maybe smaller hands or short fingers... ANYWHERE you press on the mouse buttons is EXTREMELY easy to click and it feels like the same click everywhere on the button. OK mild exaggeration, but very mild, seriously, you can push to click anywhere on these buttons. If you look carefully at the picture for the RAT 7 or 9 you can see how the right mouse button makes an L shape behind the scroll wheel?? You can click there. And it feels like a normal click. Its like the buttons are on 4 corner suspension or something, either way, its great. Allows you to click with your whole finger instead of just the finger tips, which might help alleviate cramping.

Ok, secondly, 4 DPI hot settings. This might sound pretty standard, but just the way its done is very cool, the DPI "rocker" switch just behind the scroll wheel has a very nice feel. The LEDs that show which level of DPI youre on are very vivid and easy to see. Rock foward to increase (or decrease dpi depending on your settings) and backward to decrease (again, depending on how you have it set) you can reverse the rocker to go the other if you want. Or even up down up down lol... more more less less, it dont matter.

3rdly, the things fully customizable... yeah i know i said it, and im sayin it again. If you can't get this thing to feel nice in your hand, you dont have hands. And i pity you.

4thly did someone say thumb wheel? oh yeah, i did, just now. Both the thumb wheels and the click wheels have a great feel. I personally have used mice where the wheel feels either too clunky or is too loose. This one is perfect, both of them, very smooth feel, i always scroll with perfection on this thing.

5th, the DPI hot button. oh yeah, that little red button on the side, push the little red button. (Men in black quote, how 90's) Before i got the mouse i figured that button would be able to have a set dpi, like constantly 1000 dpi or whatever you wanted. Well i was wrong, and gladly so. It SCALES to a set percentage of whatever DPI setting youre currently on. So if you set it to like 50%, which is default, and the mouse is at 4000 DPI, you guessed it, pushing that button makes it move at 2000 DPI, while its held down. Really really cool btw.

6th the thumb buttons. Have to say, NOT the best thumb buttons i ever used. I LOVED the vertical thumb buttons on the Sidewinder, but, with the good comes the bad. Not even bad though, just average. Theyre thumb buttons... fully programable, and make you just as angry as any other thumb button that you accidentally push while you're typing a HUGE forum post.

7th DP F*CKING I. 5600?? 5600?!?!?! what am i going to do with 5600 DPI? if they wanted me to use it, they shouldve sent a pound of coke cause all it does is make my mouse vanish whenever theres a slight breeze in the room. but, its there if you want it, which is cool. all of the DPI settings BELOW 5600 work nicely too, so put down the caffine and try them out sometime.

Lastly, the thing is fully customizable....i know i know, 3 times, but seriously, fits like a god damn glove. Hope you liked my review, now go buy one. i still recommend cometsupply.com RAT 7 for 80 bucks and it got here in 3 days, good stuff in my book, later!

With regards to DPI, try adjusting your in-game or Windows sensitivity settings. My Mamba is also 5,600 DPI, and I have it adjusted to use at 3,500 DPI at normal settings. That way, I have plenty of room for adjustment to both higher and lower DPI for situations that call for higher or lower sensitivity.

For example, in Battlefield 2, I do most of my shooting at 3,500 DPI. However, if I'm trying to pick some long-range shots, I'll drop it down to 2,000 or so. If I get in a helicopter, I'll crank it all the way up to 5,600.

    Its amazingly accurate. I swear.
And for Battlefield games having a on-the-fly dpi switcher is a must. High max DPI too for vehicles and some Stationary weapons.

    Haha i love that!
20 bucks to go to wireless not a bad price for 100 dollars.
Still want the rat 7 so i never have to change batteries.

most people here if not all are only talking about the RAT 9 and RAT 7 :D, no mention of the lower models. I'm getting my RAT5 actually, i think the only difference is the 4000 DPI and the thumb part isnt adjustable. Mine's coming next week so hopefully its get to check it out, and if anyones interested let you guys know how it is :). I got it for free, only few days used so im happy overall :D

I'm shooting for the 9 just because of wireless. If there was a Rat 5 model with wireless i would most certainly get that.

yep i 2nd that, the RAT 5 seems perfect without the need of the extra palm rests and pikie rests and thumb rests and adjustments, if they had a wireless RAT 5 version..supposedly RAT6? :D then i would get that. but getting something like this for free, cant really complain now can I ?

I would have bought the rat 9 but it isn't avail right now...Ended up going a Razer Mamba...Was thinking about the MS x8, and or the rat 7 but just said screw it and got the razer, I believe it is one of the best you can get till this bad boy comes out.
