Great thread all. Just got done reading the last 40 pages or so. Looking at getting the 1810T and have a question regarding the bloatware that is present with this machine. I have seen the tweaks page along with how to do a complete reformat.

My question is, how much extra non-essential stuff is on this machine? Also, can it be removed through the add/remove programs windows option? I would rather not do a reformat if I do not have to. I see a lot of people have in fact done the reformat option. How many of you have just tried to remove the programs without the reformat. If you did, what was the success rate? Are there some programs so deeply rooted in the machine that removing them still causes machine inefficiencies? Is there a page on how to remove bloatware or what is considered to be good or bad?

Just trying to see what I am up against here. It is going to a gift to my teenage daughter and I would like to have it running the best it can before she opens it on Xmas day. At the same time, I don't have too much time to spend with reformatting and such.

I hope this makes sense and thanks in advance for your reply.

    Hi RDT,

I've reformated mine because I did'nt like the language Windows 7 is on. My opinion is, that the time you spent to investigate and remove bloatware shall be longer then you reformat and install waht you daughter must have. And until Christmas is more than a month :)

Got to agree. If you got the handle of it , like formatting installing etc, then its a must do!

It will help the battery life and also make it faster!

    So get crackin!

IIRC, when I installed Windows 7 I don't think I *needed* to install any drivers. They were all native to Windows 7 anyhow. Just update drivers if needed. See Der_Mali's links at the beginning of this post, and easy as pie. May just take you an hour or so of installing updated drivers and rebooting if you choose to do so.

In case anyone is still looking for a carrying case for 14010/1810T there is a GREAT one on ebay for $13 incl shipping. It fits much nicer than Targus TSS12503CA 12" Case sleeve ($24 + tax). It is much easier to carry too! The only downside is that it has that Chinese rubber smell, but it should wear off quickly.

so i've seen the TME hardware mod done to the 1410 to get it to 1.7ghz, so i'm assuming this will also get the same results for the 1810 with slightly faster processor right? i will most likely by buying the 1810T and will definitely try out this mod once i get. has anyone successfully done it on the SU7300?

Why would one go through the trouble of finding a tiny laptop then put it in a fat bulky carrying sleeve?

What is the best software to use to monitor the cpu/memory usage and temp. levels?

I really like BatteryBar to monitor to the battery, and I'm hoping there's a program as sleek as that to monitor the cpu/memory.

I like CoreTemp and RealTemp for temperature monitoring. They're fairly comparable. I had to set the TJmax for my SU7300 to the correct value (105) in RealTemp though. CoreTemp detected it correctly.

I just received my 1810T. I got the Canadian Olympic version with the SU7300. The stock 4GB of RAM is 800MHz. The multiplier is x6.5 and I plan on doing both the TME unlocking mod and the undervoltage mod.

Has anyone overclocked the SU7300 yet? I would be happy if I could get a FSB=246MHz with the CPU @ 1.60GHz.

I will report back on how it went. I have experience with SMD soldering, so I expect everything to work out fine. :)

I opened my 1810T-SU7300 up and it has the Silego SLG8SP513V PLL. I know that others may have already had issues with this IC. I ran setFSB (pre-mod) and I was not able to get a good read from the IC, so I am a little hesitant to go through with the PLL mod.

    Does anyone have any advice?

    Thanks

smithk1, i'm really interested in your results or if you can find a resolution. so does that mean the clockgen and PLL from the 1810t is different than the 1410 in the first post showing the TME mod?

can you also take some pics of the circuit board while it's apart?

I believe that the 2 PLL's are hardware compatible (since the PCBs are the same), but they are programmed differently. SetFSB might not be dealing with all of the registers correctly. I emailed the author of SetFSB to see if he could help.

There are pictures of the PCB on the first page.

just curious, where did you get the olympic model? is it only in canada? i'm looking for just white, but they do not have that here in the US yet, so i'm interested in the olympic also, but not sure if it's available.

if doing this PLL mod does not work on the 1810t for me, then this notebook will be a no go for me.

The 1410/1810t(z) will have either the Silego or the IDT chip in random order. For both chips the TME mod is the same. SANdood is the only one I know of who did the mod on a Silego clock generator, but he had problems with freezing the laptop when trying to overclock.

    Hi all:

Let me start by saying tht I am not technical and most of your posts are way above my technical knowledge. However, I found them to be very interesting. At some point I would like to try and enhance the performance of my new ACER 1810TZ but at this time, I want to focus on getting the best video performance out of the unit.

So what portable Blue ray reader/DVD Reader/Writer would you all recommend and what software/firmware upgrades should I cosider tomaximize the viewing of 1080p movies on this computer?

    Thanks,

    Gewoodfo

I bought it from a Canadian supplier. It came with the dreadful bilingual keyboard, but you can easily replace it with a US one for ~$20.

I plan on doing both PCB mods this evening and then start messing around with setFSB. I contacted Abo, setFSB author, but he said that he does not have time to look at it. It looks like other people have similar issues with that PLL and setFSB. The registers may have to be changed manually, not using "Set FSB" button. I will have a look at the datasheet, but if setFSB does not write to the PLL IC correctly or writes stuff on it's own, I have no way of making the register changes.

der_mali: if you have any suggestions on the values and registers that I can try to change, please let me know.

My Acer was built about 3 weeks ago, so maybe Acer is now using the Silego?

Use SLG505YC264BT or SLG505YC256BT in SetFSB. If it doesn't work it will most likely be same problem Sandood has. I've got the same clock generator in my Aspire One and it works with those PLLs in SetFSB.

I got this below on post #1.

Whats the setting for the SU2300?

How much more of the battery life did you get on the 6 cell 1410?

    ================

You only need one multiplier, so in RMClock main window click on "Profiles" on the left and place a check box to the left of where it says "Normal | 7x" and click on drop down menu and select 0.8750V (lowest possible value on SU3500, if it doesnt work for you try increasing it until you find the one that works). Setting it to even lower values won't work.

Thinking about getting the Gateway version of the Acer 1410 with the SU2300 because I hate shiny bezels.

Gateway is slow with the firmware updates. Do you all think it's possible to flash the Gateways with the Acer firmware? I would like to just turn it into an Acer :) but I don't know if that would work.

(Sorry for the crosspost, but the dual core thread probably wasn't the best place to ask. Someone said they managed on a Packard Bell, but, any other thoughts here?)

hi. I just bought a 1810TZ. It comes with Bios version 0.3319. The latest BIOS is version 3303. This is a huge leap and I am nervous about it. Should I upgrade? Or is there any benefit to upgrade? I am running Win7 premium. TQ

No joy with the Silego PLL. I get the exact same results as SANdood.

    What I tried:

    - Selecting SLG8SP513V, SLG505YC264BT or SLG505YC256BT
    - Register 14 = A9 or E9

In all cases setFSB reports that the speed did change, but HD locks up after a few seconds.

Since setFSB seems to work with the SLG8SP513V PLL in the Aspire One I conclude that setFSB is not the problem, unless there is a hardware difference.

I am open to trying something else if anyone has any ideas...

    Good day !
I am newbie here. I love what you guys doing !
I got my self Acer 1410 and realy love this machine.
Yesterday I did Overclock Mod and after tried to use SetFSB to change my frequency.
I have faced exactly the same problem which SANdood described.
I have a question: Did you guys find the way on how to resolve it ?
Looks like my problem is identical to his.
My chip is: SLG8SP513V, however in SetFSB I use SLG505YC256BT

And as soon as I click on SetFSB after changing or even not changing anything my system locks up :(
Please help if you know any solution for that.
Sorry, English is not my first language.

Unfortunately, I didn't read the post until AFTER I did the complete disassembly. And taking the keyboard out was the hardest--I used a very thin plastic card (half of a laminated picture card) to pry on the keyboard and it came out without damage. Only managed to mung one screw in the whole process. Took about 1 1/2 hours, I suspect it wouldn't have been 1/2 that long without the tedious keyboard and screw removal.

Now the 1410 Bluetooth syncs with my Samsung Jack (no issues) and will usually play sounds through my Jabra BT620S phones--but badly. The phones work great on other bluetooth apps but through the Aspire it sounds like telephone quality. I've messed with different drivers and, once, had to do a system restore. Yikes! Anyway, if anyone who has done the Bluetooth hardware upgrade has had better results with stereo Bluetooth phones, I'd appreciate the info. For now, I'm happy for the syncing with the Jack.

Unrelated question: HDMI works OK with my Vizio 37" LCD TV (1080i) but there isn't a resolution available that completely fills the screen. I tried installing Powerstrip but the moment I attempt any adjustment, the TV is blank. Anyone have any tips on the process or is the Intel Mobile Express 4 graphics incapable of any adjustments like this.

    {Answering my own question re HDMI...I did a fresh reinstall of Windows 7 on 11/29 using the Acer eRecovery tool and when I reconnected to my TV the issue was gone. Actually had to kick the Vizio into 2X zoom mode but the screen size then is perfect. My surmise is that I messed up something with powerstrip...a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.}

Thanks in advance. And thanks for all the help here.

    Regards,
    Mike

A Google search shows a few places selling it, but it's not exactly cheap. ~$100 after shipping. That was one of the main things that pushed me to buy the 1810T in the first place.

    hi,
    just for info.
for the TME mod you could also remove the R146 and connect the right soldering pad of the R146 with the round empty pad right from the R147.

right now im doing some testing.

i found out that the U3500 doesnt like it to go from FSB200 -> i.e. FSB250
you have to go small steps like 5mhz

    have fun
    inteks

    Hi,
I have a gateway ec1803h laptop just like this with a su3500 cpu with no mod, when I'm in setfsb, I click on getfsb with the selected pll, but there is no pll register and SMbus register info in return, why? because I did not mod yet? and the hdd locked up situation is just like the story had been mentioned here earlier.

Guys does it matter if the Ribbon behind the keyboard has a black colour or transparent white?

i had a slight misfortune with mine and i need to replace it! No big damage,i`m just weird :p

The 751h ones that should fit have a P/N of 9J.N3.C82.01D
    Mine has got a 9Z instead of a 9J.

I also found that the Acer 3935 keyboard also fits and this one has got a 9Z model.

But what about the ribbon? I`m a bit confused
