Since the BT led blinks on your 1410 too, i guess it is normal. so i have to live with it until someone gets a solution to it. it is indeed much dimmer than wifi and power light, though faster.

Hello, can you tell me if this Kingston Hyperix 2x4GB 800MHz memory at fast and furious 4-4-4-12 timings is compatible with ACER ASPIRE 1810T-8968?
And, since I have to change the keyboard, is somewhere available a pdf with pictures or a video of a disassembly guide?
    Thank you.

    Hi all

I am having a tough time finding an internal bluetooth module for my as1410... the only ones available here in India are cheapo/generic external modules with IVT Bluesoliel and a "MAC" id of 11:11:11:11:11 ( i guess they're fake).... iam currently doing some research whether there could be a way to mod one of these to fit the internal bluetooth connections...... any inputs will be deeply appreciated.....

    Hi guys,

I am new to the forum, I hope I'm posting at the right thread.
Anyway, I have a 1810tz and yesterday I opened the hdd cover and took out the hdd out of curiosity. I didn't think at that time that I damaged something, nothing broken etc.

But when I put the hdd back into the case and turned on the laptop, the hdd wasn't recognized. I thought that I didn't plug the ribbon correctly to the socket on the board (10-pin) so I tried to plug it again, but still the hdd wasn't recognized.

I tested the hdd in my other laptop and it was working perfectly. I tried to put the hdd back to the 1810tz, but this time with me holding the hdd out of the case, so that I could give the hdd ribbon end more contact area to plug to the socket on the board. I turned on the laptop again and, to my surprise, everything worked! But when I plugged the hdd normally and closed the hdd cover, the hdd again wasn't recognized. After a few more tries, now the hdd isn't recognized even when I hold it out of the case as before.

By the way, the rest of the system runs perfectly, I booted from a usb live linux distro. I'm thinking that something happened to the hdd ribbon. Is it so fragile that it can be damaged simply by benting? And how easy is it to find another ribbon? It seems to me that those are specific to the 1810. Can I order one from acer support? Or could something have happened to the socket on the board?

Yup....these ribbons can be a pain in the you know what. My guess is that, initially, you may have pulled up on the hd before disconnecting the ribbon, thus bending or putting stress on the ribbon. Many times, the damage is completely unnooticeable with ribbons..

I would take the system back and just exchange it...

and heres how to change the keyboard:

It is very simple to change this keyboard once your new arrives. I am awaiting mine but had to know how to do it in preparation.

If u look at he top of the keyboard u will find 4 tabs. Gently use a pin or something small and push them in (towards screen) and the keyboard will start popping above them. Once all 4 are free, slide a credit card in around the middle and lift up the keyboard to get your finger under the middle area. It will bow just a bit releasing the tabs located on the upper area of each side. Slide the keyboard up and the bottom will release showing u the ribbon. Loosen the whte ribbon retainer by pulling up and the ribbon will slide out.

Replace cable with new one, push white retainer down, slide bottom into place and then gently press around upper sides and top to click all tabs into place.

Thanks for your answer. Actually, I did move the hdd around a bit to find out how it is lifted, but I don't remember stressing the ribbon much. But I guess the result speaks for itself.

Unfortunately, I bought the laptop in a different country (Greece) than I currently live (Netherlands), so taking it back is not an option unless I wait for a few months. But even then, I'm not sure if my warranty is valid considering the problem happened because of me opening the case. That's why I'm thinking of ordering a ribbon, if acer support offers it..

There is no warranty concerns switching off hd's...you should be able to call customer suppport and get them to shop u off a ribbon. U might even be able to do it without telling them u openede it by just saying that the hd is not being recognized in a new system.

    Hi,
I have got 1810t with core 2 solo and win7 32bit. Is it normal that I get only 4,5hrs battery live max? I have applied driver tweaks from 1st post in this thread and nothing changed. I cant run ePower or any else power management software from acer either. I hope there is any solution because I bought 1810t because of 8hrs battery life. :(
    Thank you for any suggestion.

You shouldn't need the Acer epower software to get good battery life. Do you put 7 in Power Saver Mode? Do you set the graphics to Max Battery Life?

Does anybody have a link to the RMClock post with specific instructions for the 1410/1810? It links to flipfire's guide and then gives Acer specific instructions, I can never find it with a search but it's what I use for battery life and the results are excellent.

    Hello dextrorotatrix,

    I got mine here:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230417277488&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I haven't installed it yet though. I'm a bit nervous about taking the whole machine to bits and would prefer the "lower case" method but I don't understand exactly which screews to remove.

    Hey all,

very intersting stuff here oO, bought my 1810 just a few days ago, nice to have so much info :)

Want to ask if its possible to boot from addon card, like 4gb sd. Want to install a small linux there. anyone have some experience with it? what kind of card do i use best?

also my 1810 didnt show an attached dvd ram in bios, so i cant choose it to boot from, when using a usb adapter. any ideas?

Hey guys, today I tried undervolting on my 1810tz

but i've got a problem with selecting multipliers/voltages, as there is just on option to tick (see appendix). I followed through the tutorial, the hack is also applied - but undervolting seems to be not possible.

it doesn't even work with crystalcpuid

    any suggestions?

same here. with a lot of tweaking! :(

Hey guys, new to this forum.

I've been following this thread forever, and have been doing a lot of tweaking to my 1410 (new kind with the SU2300).

I've set the graphics power settings to max battery, and set the wifi transmit power to medium, and I've had BatteryBar installed for a couple weeks now. However, it is saying that my full lifetime battery is only at 4 hours. Is this normal? It would've been nice if I could have at least gotten 5 out of this thing.

I tried doing RMclock, but apparently the new SU2300's are locked at 1.9v. Shame.

    Thanks.

Wow i hope you just missed type, I brought my 1410 back in Nov 2009 with su2300, it has a default voltage at 1.075v and I undervolt it to 0.925v.

Also i recommend upgrading ram to at least 3gb, having 2gb of ram isn't sufficient, since window will start using swap space from HDD with around 800MB to 1GB ram remaining (don't forget your graphic card 4500MHD use ram also).

Additionally battery bar metrics are based on usage pattern, if you leave your computer on battery on idle a lot then battery bar will report a longer battery life, if you are always a heavy user (video, word, streaming music/video) while on battery, battery bar will give you much shorter battery life indicator. Note high screen brightness also drain a lot of battery.

Finally for people that use MS Office a lot, there is another battery saving trick you can try. Set your auto save interval to at least 15 minute (mine is set to 30 minute). The reason behind this is because when on battery your HDD go idle after period of inactivity (on my 1410, i set the threshold to 1 minute). When word default auto save every 2 minute, it keep waking up HDD. FYI, HDD wake up require a lot of battery power, since it is very power intensive to spin HDD up to full speed quickly from idle. So setting a high auto save period will reduce power usage at the risk of losing more information if the computer crashes.

Just some very basic observation on HDD spin up. I notice that if i set my HDD to never sleep when in battery, my battery usage with everything else idle is around 7000-8000mWh under battery bar. However when i re-enable HDD idling, I notice that when i am opening a office word file while HDD is idled, my battery usage would momentary go above 14000mWh, before settling back down to around 7500mWh level, and when my HDD go idle again, i would have a usage around 5200mWh.

Hope that helps you a bit.

i got a lot of energy since I quit using RMclock...had it on the demand-setting and the switching thing consumed more power than saved.

I only used the first three throttle modes of my su7300 but rm clock wasn't able to put it on 8x at 0,875 V...only 6x at 0.900, so with the 1810tray it runs smoothly with 450 mhz...try to shut of rmclock, maybe its a bit counterproductive if it doesn't hit the 0,875Volt mode...

the next thing is to go for an hitachi 500...uses 0,2 W in idle mode and 1,4 in reading/writing...i hope its a little less noisy than the toshiba

Whoops, that was definitely a typo lol, I meant .9v.

On average, when using the power saver option, sound muted, and screen brightness at two clicks above lowest, BatteryBar states about 8,500 mW being used. I also noticed this: Whenever I take my netbook out of hibernate, there is an immense amount of HDD usage (for about five minutes after coming out of hibernate, the HDD light flashes just constantly, which can't be good on the battery).

In regards to RAM, I did a lot of tweaking to Win7 so that on average I have about 1.4gb free at any given moment (except for gaming, obviously). The only program that I typically use consistently is Google Chrome.

Also, have you done any testing to compare the effects of disabling HDD idling vs. enabling it?

I also followed the RMclock guide to the T, but since the guide was made for the 1810 series I believe, it was hard for me to figure out the differences. All I know is that whenever I tried changing the voltage, it never changed in CPU-Z, therefore I just gave up and uninstalled RMclock, lol.

As I have been typing this, the HDD light has still been flashing like crazy. I went straight to this site after bringing my netbook out from hibernate a couple minutes ago. BatteryBar is indicating 12,000 mW usage at certain times, then jumps back down to 8,500.

    Weird stuff, lol.

8500mW is acceptable when you are doing something fairly cpu intensive. But if 8500mW is when your computer on full idle, then there is something defiantly wrong. For your comparison, my 1410 will drop to around 4300mW on full idle (leave the computer alone for 3 minute and not have any program running) 5200mW to 8000ish mW, while web surfing on Firefox, and 13,800+ mW while watching 1080p hulu/cbs videos.

Also 1 thing to point out, the ram reserved for your video card by the OS is not show on the win7 sys status side widget, but does take away from your available ram when win7 calculating when to use swap space. According to intel/acer spec the 4500MHD graphic card can use up to 1.7GB  of ram (without you knowing it)!!!

Alright, thanks. It sucks so much how DDR2 prices have shot up since the new wave of DDR3 RAM. It's like $100 just to get 4gb of DDR2-667 ram for my netbook. I remember when I could (and did) buy 4gb of DDR2-800 RAM for $20. Is there anything I can do software-wise to help the battery life? I've pretty much done all that I can.

Also, is it better to put the computer in standby or hibernate for like when going between classes?

Edit: I've had the netbook sitting here for a couple minutes now, and it barely broke under 6,500mW (screen still on). Are you running any kind of AV software? I disabled Windows Defender, and I'm using NOD32. In the Task Manager, it says that the I/O Reads for NOD32 are at like 110,000 on average. I don't have any other applications running besides NOD32. :\

I use MS security, free and directly integrated into Win7. The I/O read might be what is keeping your HDD spinning and unable to go idle, I haven't play with NOD32 before, so I don't know what you can do to reduce the I/O. You know if you really worry about battery life, try getting a 2GB stick ram + a 5800wHr battery for about $100 total, 3GB ram should be able to stop your window from paging most of the time (I am running 3GB also, only down side being slightly reduce gaming performance due to RAM not being in dual channel mode), and a 30% battery capacity boost might be sufficient to get the battery life you want.

anyone got an idea if flashcards are bootable at 1810 and which card to use best?

Alright. I think I am going to uninstall NOD32 and see how it goes from there. As far as RAM goes, I think I'd rather bite the bullet and go with 4gb so that I can keep dual-channel for performance. As for the battery, where can I get the upgraded battery for my 1410?

    Thanks.

Good luck on the Ram purchase, get 4GB worth of 800mhz DDR2 ram if performance is a high priority for you :)

hey, this is definitely a newbie type question, and so i apologize in advance. i tried searching the thread (thread search tool doesn't seem to work, so i tried google too), but didn't find my answer. i'm hoping some of you who've contributed so much to this thread could answer this question just off the top of your heads.

basically, the internal/built-in microphone (next to the webcam) on my 1810t works perfectly in skype, but doesn't register when i try to use it with rosetta stone or with browser flash-based chat. both work fine with a headset through the mic jack. i'm on win7. i've tried to mess around with levels and other settings, to no avail.

anybody have any helpful thoughts? i'm most appreciative.

Anyone here have an SSD drive? If so what are your battery results? Application performance/load times? Is it better to get 4GB Ram over an SSD?

I have an ssd and 4Gb ram... I get between 8 and 10 hours on my system depending what is shut off. If I had a choice, Ide def get a ssd before going to the 4gb but I would do both in the end.

Hi all. New to the forum - just got my 1410T. I cracked it open the second day (who needs a warranty?) to install a bluetooth module - works great.

I love this laptop overall, but two things I don't like are the glossy screen and keyboard. I've ordered an anti-glare screen protector, so hopefully that will take care of the screen issue. The keyboard is another story - I would possibly consider replacing it, but can't find a replacement that isn't exactly the same as the original. Does anyone know of a 1410T replacement keyboard that isn't so flat? I honestly wouldn't mind a slightly smaller key pitch too, since I've come from a 10" MSI Wind, and got quite used to that size of a keyboard.

I know I will adjust to the new keyboard, but so far it's been a difficult transition. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply Les,

That was the route in which I was leaning. Thanks for the confirmation. SSD seems to be coming down in price while DDR2 seems to be going up.

I just purchased the 1410-2801 last Friday and also just ordered a Sony 14" from Best Buy on Sunday that has ALL the bells and whistles. And I do mean all of them "Model: VPCCW27FX/B | SKU: 9723951". For what I am going to use them for they should last me 3 or so years.

Which SSD do you have? I am currently considering a 60-120GB unit and putting the existing 160GB drive that came with the 1410 in a portable enclosure. The upgrades of SSD and RAM will probably equal or cost more than the unit itself. BTW do these have the capability of fitting a 3G or 4G card inside of them?

The rumor is that SSD's are suppose to cost half of what they cost now by years end. I guess they are suppose to be the 3rd generation chips so by then I will probably get a SSD for the Sony unit.

With respect to ssds, the rumour will always be of dropping prices which has to be because of there cost. I run a Samsung 64gb model in the new Acer that I have had for a few years and I am happy as heck.

You really don't have to double the price of your system. Just check Eay and ensure u r running 64 bit in order to recognize all 4Gb SDRAM and that the ssd is a decent ssd. I am very happy with Samsungs...

Exactly, I am not complaining, just an observation. My Windows Experience Index gives me a 5.5 for my hard drive. I saw where some one had a 7.8 on their Acer 1410 with an SSD. Nice!!!, a ~50% better index number with no moving parts.

I already have Win7 64bit on this as an original install so that should not be a problem. I will also look for a SSD drive that can use the trim features of Win7.

    Thanks again for your help.

I was reading over how to flash the memory to DDR2-800 for free, and was wondering. Will using the program work on my 1410 11.6" with SU2300? I understand that the program won't work on x64, so I'd probably install WinXP on a new partition or something. A lot of the guides on here are made for the 1810 series, unfortunately.

    Thanks.

BIOS v3119 also has problems with Windows 7 too if you hibernate and wakeup, the Fn key shortcut stops working.

Upgrading to newer BIOS fixed this.
Now I can hibernate and wakeup without losing this Fn key shortcut.

Could you tell me if with the last bios 3303 it's still advisable to set IDE instead ACHI?

    Zooster,

I've been using v3303 for awhile, and the resume has been going pretty fast for me. It takes about 20 seconds from turning on the power to get to the password screen. That includes the post and all that garbage. the "Resuming Windows" part only takes like 5-10 seconds.

Gah, the search tool is useless. I remember reading on one of these pages that other people were noticing a high pitched ringing noise coming from the memory area under the netbook. Does anyone know if there's a quick solution to this, or do I have to send this into Acer for repair? Does Acer already know of this problem so that I don't have to play cat and mouse with them over the phone?

I just did this with my SU2300, no issues. Also my RAM is 2x1GB unlike the guide, but it is a Samsung model that is listed in Thaiphoon's database of supported RAM.

I put my ear to the under side of my acer and then could hear the whine as well. But it's very subtle in my Acer - if you hear it all the time, you should also be annoyed by bat calls

AFAIK this is a piezoelectric effect that can occur in certain speedstep modes, when the processor is not running at maximum speed / under full load. You'll notice it disappears when you put the processor under load, e.g. start a program.

If this really bother you you could try to
    - let the processor always run at maximum performance (will decrease battery life)
    - fidn out at which speeds the noise occurs and somehow disable them (can't help you there)

Did this help or was there another cause to your problem?

Thanks for the help g-funkster and hcf.

    to g-funkster:
I'm going to install and dual boot a copy of Win7 32-bit in a minute, and we'll see how it goes. was there anything special that had to be done for my SU2300?

    to hcf:
What you described is exactly what I'm noticing. It's not an entirely big deal; I can only notice the whining if I'm in a dead silent room. Otherwise I can't hear it. I was just curious if there was a quick fix to it. Thanks.

Wish me luck with Thaiphoon Burner!

edit: Thaiphoon Burner costs money?! What am I supposed to do now?! How has everyone else been doing this? Can someone please chime in quickly?!

edit2: I luckily found an older version of Thaiphoon Burner that let me write it. It is version 6.6.1 I believe. Currently rebooting my netbook as we speak to see if it worked.

edit3: I got a BSOD that says "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" any ideas?

edit4: Dangit, I just realized that I used the wrong dump... I'm gonna try the tape thing and see if it'll let me boot so I can reflash the memory.

    edit5: WOO! Got it working!

any tips, how to increase the 5hrs battery life (batterybar)? my notebook is well tweaked (followed a lot of tutorials/tweaks plus my own windows experience), but I dont know what to improve further :(

I'm getting about 7-8000mWh on idle... and there are only running ~30 tasks in windows 7.

// I also have (in my opinion) a lot of hdd i/o access. any ways to reduce it?

I found it took quite a few runs on battery from full to mostly empty before battery bar started being even close to accurate.
I would not put too much weight on what it is telling you until you have been running it for qui9te a while.
