I have a problem with my webcam not plugged in (the imaging device doesn't show up in Device Manager). I sent in my laptop for repair, where they replaced the motherboard, hard drive, and LAN board. When I got my laptop back, the touchpad and the webcam were unplugged. To say the least, I'm less then impressed with Acer's tech support, especially when their receipt says that my laptop has been "thoroughly tested".
I followed the disassembly guide and the touchpad was easy enough to plug back in, but I don't know where the connection to the camera is. Can anyone give me some hints or possibly even post some pictures on which cable to plug in?

back to the old driver 2021
While 2086 fixes the screen corruption issue, the garbled cursor is back -- which only occurs when screen is rotated so shouldn't be a problem for most though. The garbled cursor was in 1892 then fixed in later release then come back again in this 2086... -
delete, delete, I eat meat!
-
May be an isolated case but this should also happen on other laptops/tablets with GS45
0. Do a 90 or 270 degree screen rotation, I use driver's builtin feature
1. Open a page with lots of text, e.g., a google search page
2. Keep scrolling the webpage with touchpad by using synaptics driver
3. Looking for the select text cursor -- only this one will be affected.
keep scrolling...there will be a black "residue" on top of the select text cursor and it will not disappear without another screen rotation.
That's not a big deal anyway...I have another question, if you happen to use screen rotation and two-finger scrolling, will the scrolling stops working after screen rotation(not always). -
Just installed the latest WIFI drivers from intel and I've found that there is an option (I think it is new) in advanced properties of the card for using only 20MHz channels for WIFI n on 2.4 MHz networks or change to Automatic.
Changing this option to Automatic from the defaull 20MHz have multiplied by four the throughtoutput when copiing files from my desktop that is connected directly to the router (Fonera 2.0n).
Previously the connection was 144Mbps but the usage percentage when copiing large files never was more than 12%, now I get the same speed but with a usage of 42%. -
Does anyone have a confirmed solution to the screen garbling issue with 2021? It's pretty annoying at this point that I have to restart after having my laptop on sleep....

My Acer 1810tz Olympic Edition just arrived yesterday with same screen/LCD flicker problem.
Few things that I have noticed
It occurs on low frequency colors espacilly the left top corner of the Olympic desktop screen given by acer as a default destkop background.
I wonder if this background screen is avalibale on net than everyone having 1810tz should try and see if it shows the same screen problem.
In the past I have had the same problem with my samsung 40 inch series 7 LED backlit tv. Since the display of 1810tz is also LED backlit it might be the same issue. If it is the same issue than it cannot be fixed by changing drivers and its a hardware fault.
I have not tried 2021 driver yet but at least I have tried with the latest driver i.e. available on intel website and it did not fixed the problem.
I will give 2021 a go in the evening and let you know the results.
Since mine 1810tz is still under 7 days retrun period. So if it is a hardware fault I should return it back for refund. -
Tried 2021 Driver but no improvement. The flicker is still there. So I issume its a hardware fault and cannot be fixed by just using different drivers.
Now there are two possibilites.
1: The LED backlit LCD of 1810tz is faulty.
Or
2: The Intel GS45/GMA X4500MHD graphics card in the notebook is responsible for that.
In the past I have had a desktop computer with Intel Graphics in it. It was showing the same problem i.e. Flicker in the Gray colour images. However on desktop pc I was able to fix it just by installing the new VGA card and disabling the internal Intel GMA card.
May be I should return this notebook back and try Dell Inspiron 11z. On Dell 11z the only thing I do not like is its 6 cell battery hanging down from the bottom of notebook. Besides that at least it does not have that lcd flicker problem. -

Hi again!
I really beg - help me!
I have Acer 1410 - 233G23n and there's Win7 Pro x86.
Everything would be peachy if my WiFi worked. My local PC dude said that there's a problem with WiFi switch - windows doesn't understand when it's turned on because it never shows on screen that something has changed, though the Wifi light flashes amber from time to time.
Please help me ;( -
Do you have launch manager installed? You can get it here
-
I don't have this. Thanks!
Have I uninstall all drivers now or will do everything for me?
Edit: it's instaled but I don't understand how this helps?
Edit 2: ok - now, when I turn my WiFi switch, it shows something like satellite antenna but Win7 still doesn't work wit adapter. Would BIOS update help? -

mobile drivers 2028 are out! Just installed...
-
returned to 2021 because with the new 2082 drivers, the screen flicker problem appears once again.

This is an amazing thread and so many good tips. A pity the main thread stopped being updated in last november. But there are still some gold nuggets here.
I have bought yesterday an Acer 1810TZ. I dont like the bloated Windows and would like to do a reinstall.
1) I am not sure what to do with the 12 GB Recovery Partition. Shall I back it up through the 'Acer eRecovery wizard' on an ISO and kill the partition? Would I be able to restore the partition at a later stage to restore it to the factory settings?
2) What shall I do with the other hidden Reserved Partition (100 MB), that contains a Boot manager in many different languages. Do I really need that? Or can I delete the partition? Do I have to back it up?
3) How about the OEM drivers on C:? Shall I back it up as well?
A guidance would be great since I dont want to break anything.
Many Thanks

I have done this for my system and my sons TZ as well.
If you don't have an external disk drive, you are going to need to create a bootable usb first? Is this the case? If so, you will need to get a Windows .iso file and the Microsoft ESB/DVD installation program. Let me know if you need this.
Simply do a simple re-install and you are fine. As for the drivers, Win7 takes care of pretty much all of them on that system. What I might do, however is go to Acer.com and, just for safety, download the drivers they have listed for your system and OS...just a precautionary.
There is a bit of background on the "Clean Install" processs below..
Any questions...jump in as we are here to help. -
Hi,
Many Thanks for your tip and Blog. I will surely have a read.
I have an external CD-RW/DVDROM. SO I can write CDs but no DVDs.
But should be good enough for installing from a DVD.
Another user mentioned this approach below. Have you tried it?
-
No..you r fine with the external dvd...just keep it somple.
-
@Les,
I have successfully installed a clean Windows 7 and did previously the backups from eRecovery as well.
My questions is now; What kind of Chipset is inside 1810TZ ? Is it G45?
Many Thanks,
Houman -
New 2086 out!
-
-
Hmmm. if you make a search on the regular Download centre is the latest version 1908?
-
As Zooster correctly pointed it out,
8.15.0010.2086
just came out 2 days ago.
I have installed it and can see that its installed by going to http://www.intel.com/support/detect.htm
However when I click on the system and digg into the drivers, I see no where any information about the chipset, where by it should be displayed under System Devices --> System Devices to be seen.
The SATA Driver can easily be double checked under System Devices --> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller
The graphic display driver can be double checked under System Devices --> Display Adapters.
1) But I cant find the chipsetWhere can I doublecheck that one please? Chipset driver should be 9.1.1.1025 at this date...
2) How do I find the recent updates for the Chicony Webcam? It seems no one ever mentioned anything about it.
Many Thanks,
Houman -
Ok! Me and my friend somehow managed to run WiFi, but unfortunately we don't know how we did it (just a bunch of random methods and whoyla - it works).
Edit 2011.01.05. : reinstalled again and was in problem again. Put on Launch manager and this Atheros driver for Vista. Though Win7 said that 'Intel 1000 BGN installed successfully'
Hope this helps someone.
Though, I have one (or two) question(s):
1st - which graphic drivers do you recommend as for light gamer (C&C 3; Braid, NFS: MW/U2; BF: Heroes; LEGO games)?
2nd - is it normal that on my LCD HDTV through HDMI there'e a slight framerate issues/lags for online videos and 720p from HDD? Is there a way to prevent this from happening? (I'm using WMP integrated in Win7 (12 I guess))
P.S. I have Acer 1410 w/SU2300; 3GB RAM.
And pardon my english... -
has anyone tried installing more than 4Gb RAM in the 1410? the chipset looks to support 8Gb.
-
Well, I'm on my second 1410-2920 since the first one had loose hinges, and the hinges on my newer one are better but definitely not as firm/strong as I'd like them. Well, I've been using it and have been enjoying it, but now I'm having second thoughts with it and am considering returning it (if it's even possible with Newegg.com). I really want to keep it and enjoy it for what it is, but there are a few things that are bothering me about it.
-- ISSUE #1 --
It gets freakin' hot after only using it for 20-30 minutes. Is that normal? I have the 1810tray application installed, and even if I have the fan set on the highest setting it gets to about 55-57 degrees Celsius. Why does it get so damn hot? All I have running at most times is Firefox and possibly iTunes, but usually not more than two applications.
-- ISSUE #2 --
When it's sitting on a flat surface, all four rubber points on the bottom don't sit flush. The front fright rubber foot doesn't touch the surface, so when you're typing on it there's a very slight rocking motion. It's hard to describe it, but it's quite bothersome.
-- ISSUE #3 --
When it gets warm, which seems to be on a regular basis, the touchpad seems to be much harder to use. My finger seems to kind of catch on its surface, as if my finger is sweaty and just sticks to it ever so slightly.
The biggest issue for me is the first one. I've never used a laptop in my life (which I've been using for 15+ years) that gets as warm/hot as this 1410. Is there something I can do to turn down the heat?
Thanks. -
Well, you could take apart the laptop and throw some Arctic Silver 5 thermal grease on it. That may helps the temps a little bit. Other than that, I'm not sure what you could do.
Could you describe your hinge problem a little more? is it just that the screen is too flimsy? -
Well, the hinges just weren't firm. When you moved it back and forth there was some give, just enough to make it not stay in the same spot where it should have been. I also ride a train every day to and from work, and the bumpiness on it would make the display eventually move away from me (and the keyboard). I had it replaced with another one, and it seems to be better than the first one I had. But, now my laptop is way too warm.
WHY? -
Official GS45 driver (PV15.17.1.[64].2086):
x86:

-
no difference.
-
not really, hte previous 2086 has some differences compared to the one posted specifically for GS45.
-
Anyone know what "IGPA support for Intel® HD Graphics" is? Found it in the release notes -
Hey guys,
i would like to double check if the drivers have been installed correctly.
The SATA Driver can easily be double checked under System Devices --> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller
The graphic display driver can be double checked under System Devices --> Display Adapters.
1) But I cant find the chipset. Where can I doublecheck that one please? Chipset driver should be 9.1.1.1025 at this date...But where do I find it to double check the version number?
2) How do I find the recent updates for the Chicony Webcam? It seems no one ever mentioned anything about it.
Many Thanks,
Houman -
If anyone is trying to rotate their timeline screen to use as an ereader and the option is either unavailable or doesn't function in the Intel graphic settings, you need to update the BIOS to the latest version.
-
Hmmmm.....question for you all.... Sons system just became unique.
He is away but tells me his screen is bright but all colours are inverted. he says its like looking at an xray....Thoughts here before I create a thread??? -
Does anyone have the monitor drivers for x64?
-
Here some people had problems with CrystalCPUID. I found a manual how to get it running more flawlessly and in automatic mode. http://scottiestech.info/2010/02/05...laptops-battery-life-a-lot-with-crystalcpuid/
Hope it helps.. -
-
Based of batt life results demonstrated around these parts, I probably won't.

One thing to be aware of is that the inlet for the fan is the base of the notebook. If you have it sitting on your lap for something else soft you could be blocking the inlet. Otherwise check the task manager to make sure there is not something causing the CPU to run at 100%.
Edit: Just a thought when the fan is running can you feel warm air being vented out of the left side of the notebook? -
Another case for the list: I've picked up the 10.2" version of the Elecom Zeroshock III, reviewed here, and it fits perfectly even though the box says it won't. It's water-repellent, feels solid, and it was pretty cheap.
