Quick turnaround from Acer! Dropped off lappy yesterday. According to rep, the mainboard was replaced and shipped back same day. I'm due to receive the unit today.
What's funny is they just sent me an auto generated email that they recieved the unit, just after the one which states they've mailed it back to me.
To a certain naysayer that doubted my ability to walking and drop the lappy off in person and further, to have, at least my immediate problem w/ this system resolved: crow.![]()
Onward to the ram/whine problem. I really hope w/ the new mainboard, this item is resolved... and I will be a happy camper.
Edit: Bonus: call the temple call center during working hours when experiencing problems. they are much easier to deal with then the outsourced call center in India and quick to pick up too.

I just picked up an 1810TZ. I love it so far. It is amazing just how much faster it is than my atom powered eee pc. I would say that it has no noticeable speed difference from my 1.5ghz c2d laptop.
I have one question so far (I'm sure I'll have more in the future). Is there any way we can remap the right alt or ctrl button to the Fn key? I never use either of those two and I would like to have the ability to one hand Home and End since I tend to use those keys quite a bit. -
Naysayer Here! I'm still stuck at the part of you having a spouse who hasn't yet passed the bar but is right on course and will take care of things.....or was it the bit about your knowledge of computer protection?
Got to congratulate you though because you have a relatively new system that you paid good bucks for that is getting a new motherboard and then you hope the other problem that wasn't addressed is taken care of.
Thats like getting a new car and then an engine replacement after a month or so on the road.
Sincerely, as much as I didn't and still don't like your approach, I wish you the best and, believe it or not, tried to assist even through my sarcasm.
It sounds like you have a real lemon, however, and I can honestly say your best course of action for that is to stay quite for a bit and seek the experience of those we have here. We have been through the system enough to get you through the minefield of customer service. -
I've just been through all 120 pages of this thread and it's a great source of info.
I've had my 1810T for a few months and I'm very happy with it. I finally got around to putting a fresh install of Windows7 on it and removing all the crapware. I also have a Canadian version with a bilingual keyboard, and I've ordered a US keyboard from China -- just got it today. I can't wait to install it.
I have three questions:
1) The laptop accidentally slipped between my table and the wall (battery side up) but didn't hit the ground. It got stuck between the table and the wall. I have a couple of scuffs on the outer part of the lid and the battery indicator doesn't work like normal. Usually, the orange light comes on when the battery is charging and turns blue when the battery is charged. This doesn't happen anymore. It turns orange some of the time, but most of the time it's off. I don't know if this is a result of it being dropped or not. The wifi and bluetooth lights work fine. Any ideas as to why this is happening?
2) After the reinstall of Windows7, the Acer icons that show up when you use the function/arrow keys (sleep/bluetooth/mute/volume/brightness) don't show up. Everything still works though (volume/brightness/bluetooth) when using the appropriate function keys. How do you make those icons show up again? Not sure if I have to re-install any Acer-specific software.
3) What Acer-specific software should I reinstall back on the laptop (if any, and where do I get the software)?
Thanks. -

RE: new US keyboard
Just installed the US keyboard.. much easier to type on, but the keyboard itself has some major "bowing" to it. I'm going to take it out again and gently bend it straight. -
Check a few pages back on this thread.
Bronsky has some pictures of using double-sided tape to address the k/b bowing/flex problem.
This solution ha been repeated often in this thread - and other timeline threads. -
-
I wouldn't ask for your advice on how to plunge a turd down my toilet. And if that's you assisting people, you should think about a new line of work. Thanks for keeping 'it' alive. -
I haven't noticed that much flex yet, so I still might try the double-sided tape. -
does anyone know if a 9 cell battery is in development or not? that would be the best addition to these notebooks.
-
Did I read somewhere in these tweak threads that there is a program that turns off the touchpad on the 1410T when you start typing?
Bronsky -
I love the extra large battery on my AspireOne. Not only does it offer great extra power time, it doubles as a great "handle" for the netbook.
A similar handle for the timeline - in addition to the extra power - would be awesome.
Hopefully the battery labs out there (presumably somewhere in China) are reading these threads. -

New Chipset (Video) and BIOS installed on 1410.
1) From device manager, uninstalled video driver
2) Reboot into weird resolution
3) Installed new Intel Chipset Drivers for Win 7 x64
4) Ran WEI update and got a 1.0 for Aero but was able to manually go into Aero mode.
5) Flashed BIOS to new 3310
6) Reboot, re-ran WEI assessment
7) All WEI numbers back to where they were
See pic below:
Not noticing any significant changes, but then, I haven't yet installed the new Adobe Flash RC yet. Going to do that now if I can find it.
Ran Windows Update and it offers me the Sept, 2009 Intel Chipset Driver. What's up with that? The new one seems to be working just fine.
BTW, if you want to install a 500GB HDD, get the Scorpio Blue (WD). It beat all the other 500GB drives in overall performance, even the Seagate 7200rpm which has twice the cache. See link below:

I think ill try this program.

cripes. i'm inclined to believe all 1410s have a high pitched whine to some extent emanating from ram area, and exacerbated when using headphones w/ no sound playing but windows environment. "I haven't heard this," you say? Give it 15 to 20 min. I swear... the 1st did it, the 2nd didn't, then did. The 3rd does it, albeit more subtle than 2nd out of the box. I don't think this is a bad batch. I def. think it's common amongst the whole product line at this point.
I can also hear the fan housing vibrating/clanking when fan rpms are high though not as bad as last. since bga, would seem impractical to use same hsf from replaced mainboard right? dag... i can fix this problem though, just wish there was a fix for that high frequency sound. could easily send in, but I honestly don't think the folks at acer can fix this one. probably just say can't find problem or 'within range' as they did another gentleman here.
i'm tempted to sell this baby for profit, what with the 4GB PC2-6400 and 320GB HDD upgrade, and just wash my hands of it, but there's nothing comparable in the this price range. Asus UL30s start twice as much than what i paid and still no BT... . maybe wait for a Arrendale? su7300 much different to warrant the cost of su2300? pine trail up to su2300 snuff with ion? hmmmmmm
edit: by the way, the *new* realtek drivers on acer's support page are out of date. they are 5901 on the x64 but I have installed build 6.01.6077 -

The fall happened with just the battery -- no AC power. I actually charged it last night after replacing the keyboard and everything was fine -- orange light while charging, blue when the battery was fully charged.
I'll have to test again tonight to see if that continues. -
I haven't noticed much flex with this new US keyboard, but I've only used it for about a day now. If I do, double-sided tape is the way I'll go. -
-
Also, with the latest Intel chipset "upgrade," my desktop graphics/aero score went from 3.3 to 3.2. -
Quick question -- while doing a clean install of Windows 7 on my 1810T, I used the Windows 7 product key that was on the sticker on bottom of the laptop, which I assume was for Home Premium (as that what was installed when I got the laptop). I didn't read the Windows 7 Clean install Guide in the other thread, because I didn't think I would need Professional/Ultimate editions.
I keep getting this dialog box that says I need to activate Windows and I have 24 days to activate it. I manually tried to activate it entering the same Windows 7 product key that I used before, but it comes up with a dialog that says:
"The Windows 7 Home Premium product key you typed in is invalid for activation
To activate Windows 7 you will need to use the automated phone system"
What's going on here? How do I get around this/make it activate properly?
Thanks. -

Hi! I have a 1810tz olympic edition and i have a problem with touchpad after reinstalling win7 with acer eRecovery management.. i don't know why but while using synaptics driver the touchpad is very sticky and doesn't always react when tapping the touchpad. if i uninstall synaptics driver and use win7 stock driver everything is fine. i want to use synaptics driver because i want to use two-finger scroll.
i have installed and uninstalled the driver many times and tried with different settings but still no good.. any ideas where the problem is? -

DL the new driver. Install it. Should solve your problem.
Hope this helps.

You do the exact same thing for the 1810tz.Very easy.It will take you 3 minutes maximum if you are slow.Advice:Use a credit card not a razor. -
Thundernet's references are right on.
Just be careful with the very thin cable. Don't force the old one out. You need to "unclip" it from its latch.
And then - when attaching the new k/b, insert the cable end into the slot, and close the latch.
I was wary myself - but I'm typing this on my new US k/b - so it can't be that difficult. -
Agreed very simple....very simple.
I simply used a pin to push in the top tabs and release the top.
I used a credit card to pull up the center gently, releasing the side tabs.
I then pulled it towards the monitor to release the bottom.
There is a clip holding the ribbon in on the laptop that pops up to release it.
Insert the new ribbon carefully and push the clip down.
Slide the bottom of the keyboard in place and then gently push down on the sides and tops. It will click in and done!!!! -
This worked like a charm. -

Hi,
I'm just wondering what battery life are you guys getting from the Acer 1410 SU3500 processor? I've been testing mine out for 3 full charges and fully draining till 10% left and it has only provided approximately 3 - 4 hour usage. Is that the same with other Acer 1410 users? I leave brightness on level 1 and just use the wifi for msn and minimal web browsing.
How does acer deal with battery replacement?
Thanks!
*Sorry if this is posted in the wrong thread. -

Thanks! -
Gotta love the 1810 for battery life for sure. I get over 8 normally but can push it to 10 plus if I am away from home and run it for a full cycle on battery saver mode...
-
-
.I have the 1810TZ and I get 6 hours(6.5 if i am lucky) of battery time.I guess getting 8 hours is one more of the benefits of having an SSD.
