The ssd doesn't equate to quite a full hour but yes I have to give it credit as it is responsible for next to no heat or fan use whatsoever..

I'm envious. I don't get anywhere near 8 or 10 hours (I think). And my system is virtually the mirror-image of Les'. :(

Any good tools out there that actually measure the state of my battery - capacity, drainage and such. Tools that don't harm my battery or system.

GSAING... Really? Is your OS a fresh install with little running in the background? That is surprising especially since the advertised Timeline battery time is 8hrs plus.

I have the 1410 with SU2300. WiFi is on, run Powersaver and screen brightness is set at 1 and I do extensive web browsing. I almost always get 5:20 of battery life.

Don't know if it matters, but I am running Win 7 64 bit.

I can't even squeeze it past 4:10, and I do everything the same as you, but brightness at 2.

Yes looks pretty normal. It's almost exactly the same with my 1810tz.Acer may claim 8hr baterry time but most people get around 6.

Thanks - and thanks for the batteybar suggestion.

BTW, is the 6 hrs. or so still normal considering SSD as only drive.

I am afraid that I have no experience with SSD.Batterybar is 'learning" and after a couple of cycles will be even more accurate.

Hi, I'm trying to make my windows install as lite as possible so does anyone know if these two software/drivers are really needed?

Intel Matrix Storage Manager SATA - I dunno what this does, it seems like its for RAID?

Alcor card reader driver - it seems like all this does is add an extra icon for the card reader?

Yeah I will most likely ring up Acer over the weekend, but that $55 battery is that the version A1810 uses?

There you go.Just a few examles.Yes they are the ones the 1810t(z) uses. The 1410 and 1810 have exactly the same battery in terms of size and form. They are interchangable. They just have different capacities 1410(4400mah)-1810(5600mah).In the market you can find 4400-5200-5600mah.They can be used in both the 1410 and the 1810.

It is, the 320-285 = 35 GB reserved for system restore :) Don't know what I was thinking, lol

No, the difference is mainly due to the way the operating system measures hdd space (base 2) and the way the hard drive companies measure hdd space (base 10).

The change of base doesn't make up 35gb worth of difference, it's 320*10^9/1024/1024/1024=298GB. So probably still has something to do with a partitioned hard drive

I'm sure that the partition does take up a certain amount. But you already showed that 22 of the 35 in question is due to the base issue. I'd call that the main difference.

Installed after-market BT module in my 1410T. I have a Dell BT Travel Mouse. It installs perfectly and runs fine. If I turn off the BT though from the switch on the front of the Acer, when I turn it back on, the computer recognizes the mouse, but it does not work. Only the touchpad works.

Anybody else have this problem? I wonder if Logitec has an updated driver or if Broadcomm does? Anybody else have this problem?

Maybe it's time to change the batteries.Maybe it doesn't have enough juice to communicate with the bluetooth.

The battery is less than 2 months old and it's nearly 100%. It even happens on AC power. I think its the crappy Logitec driver that they use in the Dell BT mouse. I wish my company would get beyond the fact that they have an account with Dell and let me buy a cheepo chineese mouse from ebay which would cost less and work better. I guess I could spring for the $11 myself but ... free stuff is afterall - free. :D Even if it makes me crazy.

    Bronsky

LOL oh you mean in the mouse. I re-read your post. They're new too.

You must remove all of the screws in the back. You have to remove the keyboard. The directions I followed said to remove the ram and hard drive as well. I think there were 4 silver screws in addition to the black ones in the back. You then have to separate the halves of the computer with an old credit card. If you do all of that, you will see where the module plugs in. Use the adhesive pad to secure it. Make sure the wire from the module does not go under the right touchpad key or it can interfere with the action.

One of the sellers on ebay has detailed instructions with pictures. I put the link in one of my previous posts on this issue. Mine works fine.

After having done it, I have no idea how that guy did it by removing only a few screws. Maybe you can open the front like a clamshell but I was not comfortable trying that, as it would probably involve prying the front open and holding it open with something. IF you're careful adn follow directions, it's not that hard to take the 11.6 apart. Are you putting the BT in a 1410T or 1810T. I think they're the same, but that comment was made about an 1810T. Maybe there's some difference I know nothing about.

Personal advice:Unless you are a surgeon and you have a surgeon's equipment don't try the half open method. It's not worth the risk,it requires steady hands and precise clip.If you feel uncomfortable disasembling the notebook don't do it at all.Get a 2$ bluetooth dongle and you are set........By the way the 1410 and the 1810 are the same down to the last screw.

Does anyone think it would be possible to somehow install the Logitech nano receiver internally in the netbook? I have a Logitech V450 nano mouse, and I think it'd be pretty cool to put the receiver inside so I don't have to worry about it at all.

It is not as hard as people are claiming it to be. I had absolutely no problems taking it apart and putting it back together. You just have to be patient and follow instructions/guide (I've seen one, don't remember where).

OH, and if you DO have a history of electronics that you broke by taking them apart then I would recommend to stay away from swapping motherboards.

Ok, this was probably mentioned somewhere in this thread, but regarding batteries...
As I understand it, my 1410 has a 4400mah (or something close). There are also 5200, 5600, and 5800 mah.

I was wondering if anyone could list the estimated total hours for the 3 types listed above. With web browsing, email client in the bg, and brightness down about 3 clicks I get around 4:30 with my stock 1410 bat. Also, I'm seeing were people are buying the 5600mah's, but see very little info on the 5800's. I would think they would all be within about $10 of each other, so why does everyone seem more interested in the 5200/5600, rather than just getting a 5800? Thanks!

Well some math would predict what battery life you can expect and be even more accurate because it'll be based on your usage.

If you're getting 4.5 hours off of a 4.4ah*10.8volt=48whr battery, that means you're averaging 10.66 watts of power in your usage.

so with 3 different higher capacity batteries:
    5.2ah *10.8 volts = 56.16whr
    56.16 whr/10.66watts = 5.26hours
    5.6ah *10.8 volts = 60.48whr
    60.48 whr/10.66watts = 5.67hours
    5.8ah *10.8volts = 62.64whr
    62.64 whr/10.66watts = 5.87hours

So the 5600mah battery would net you a solid hour more of battery life.

So you are saying you get more life with a 5600 vs 5800? 5600's get less than 6 hours on light usage?

    Maybe because a 5800Mah battery doesn't exist.I have seen a 4400-5200-5600-6600 but never a 5800mah.I maybe wrong-If i am, please post a link with a 5800mah battery.

No I meant a 5600mah would get you an hour over your 4400mah. A 5800 would get you more, but I was just noting the 5600 would be the least you should get if you want a reasonable increase in battery life.

And in your usage, you would get just over 5.5 hours of use. I also wouldn't call your usage 'light', I would consider that to be 6-7watts with an SU2300. At 10 watts you're usage is moderate :D. Whether it be because of tabbed browsing/flash/multi-tasking/screen brightness.

I stand corrected.I've never seen that capacity before. In the early days of the 1410-1810 that was the only place that had compatible batteries. The only complain people had was the long shipping times. These days there are quite a few sellers from the US and with better prices. There is also one that sells a 6600mah battery.

Anyone have links for a 6600? I was considering a bat upgrade, but unless I can get at least 2 good hours of run time over stock, I don't think it's going to be worth the cost for me.

Before you buy the 6600Mah ask the seller if it is a standard size(or it bulges in the back or underneath).
