Acer ePower management application... is it really important for battery saving, or totally unuseful?

Got the 1810T-SE about 2 weeks ago, and I love this thing. Here in Canada it's only available in silver with the Olympic logo, so I had to order a custom skin from Skinit, since I was looking for black. Great little lappy, amazing battery life from the 5800mAh.
I find the touch pad to be a little iffy sometimes, but maybe is just my greasy fingers, or is anyone else experiencing random issues with its sensitivity.

Congrats on your 1810T. Everyone wants the silver Olympic and you're skinning it.

I'm sure my fingers are more greasy than yours and I have no problem with my touchpad now. Make sure you update the synaptics driver. The one that came with my 1410T was very iffy. Much more stable after the new drivers.

    Bronsky

It's funny how people always want things that are harder to get. All my stuff is black, from the desktop to my Home Theater, to my car. Anyway, the silver color it's starting to grow on me, it's also great that is not a finger print magnet.
Updated the drivers from Synaptics website last night, and the touch pad, seems a touch better ;)

Try these for your touchpad. You don't want "a touch better" you want perfect ;) .If you don't like it you can always go back to your previous drivers.

When I started my search for a laptop, I was looking for black; but now, 3 weeks later and still no sight of my sknit order, I'm starting to like the silver, and I still have the clear plastic on top while waiting

Thanks, I'll give them a try, are they 32 or 64 bit??

Is there a way to install Windows 7 using the recovery discs I made without most of the crap that was also included on initial setup?

Looks like a bit of a doozie to do a clean install, I guess I'll wait a little longer before I do mine. Maybe I'll wait until I get an SSD

It's simple, but you'll need access to a computer with a CD/DVD burner and you'll need two flash drives (one that's at least 4GB) unless you have a USB CD/DVD burner for your Acer.

If you don't have a USB CD/DVD burner follow these steps:

Download UltimateBootCD, burn it to a CD. After you've burned the UltimateBootCD, run the tool in it that will create an equivalent of the CD on your USB flash drive (save the 4+GB flash drive for later and use the other flash drive for this). After you've created the UltimateBoot CD flash drive, put that aside.

Then download this tool from Microsoft:
Microsoft Store: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool Help

Install the tool and download a Windows ISO from the link I posted above.

Run the tool and point it to the ISO you downloaded. Plug your 4+GB USB flash drive in and point the tool to the flash drive. Now run it and it will create a Windows install USB flash drive.

When that's done, put the Windows install flash drive aside.

Now, plug the UltimateBootCD flash drive back in and reboot the Acer. Press F12 to get to the boot menu and choose the flash drive. Choose a hard drive wiping utility and make sure to wipe only the hard drive and not the flash drive.

Once the hard drive has been wiped, unplug the UltimateBootCD flash drive and plug the Windows install flash drive in.

Reboot again and the Windows install should start automatically.

    =================

If you have a USB CD/DVD burner, all you need to do is burn the UltimateBootCD to a CD, burn the Windows ISO to a DVD, wipe the hard drive with the UltimateBootCD then install with the Windows DVD.

Same as before, but without all the steps to prepare the flash drives.

    Hello,
alledgedly there is a new bios out: v.3317.
Could anybody post a link, because I can't see my 1810T model listed on the acer-EU support site.
    Thanks a lot indeed!

Which of the Acer utilities do I need from the website?

    - ePower Management Application
    - LaunchManager Application

I don't see a built in program that can run the webcam to see if it's working, but Windows did have a driver for it. Acer's site has three different webcam drivers for the 1810T:

Camera Suyin Camera Driver 5.2.7.1 3.3 MB 2009/10/23
Camera liteon Camera Driver (AP) 0.905 7.5 MB 2009/10/23
Camera Chicony Camera Driver (AP) 1.1.95.71 2.8 MB 2009/10/23

When I go into the device manager and look at the hardware ID of the webcam, I see this:
    vid_064e&pid_a102&rev_0222&mi_00

As for the bluetooth module; after I install that, do I have to use the bluetooth software from Acer or can I install any bluetooth stack / software I want (BlueSoleil, Widcomm, MS, etc.)?

Finally, for the touchpad; does the Synaptics driver from Acer have customizations for the 1810T or can I download the latest Synaptics driver from the Synaptics website?

    A.LaunchManager Application

B.For the camera it's trial and error. You have to try them all and when an icon appears in your desktop or in the start menu(all programs) that's the one.

C.I suggest you try first the ones fron Acer and if you are not happy then go for the latest synaptics site.I use the one from Acer and it works fine.

In the acer USA site there is no such BIOS.But even if there is why flash your BIOS if you are happy with the one that you have???Flashing BIOS is a serious bussines.Don't treat it like another update.

I've flashed every new BIOS, it's not that risky. Just remember to close all programs, and plug in the A/C and you'll be fine...

I don't know why people are so afraid. If you do it right, nothing will go wrong

    QUOTE:

    The hazards of BIOS flashing

The BIOS is a crucial component of your computer since it is always the first program that runs when you turn the machine on. If the BIOS does not run, the machine cannot boot. Therefore it is very important that a BIOS upgrade is performed properly. If it fails, it can permanently ruin the BIOS, resulting in your computer becoming a door stop. Common reasons for BIOS flashes gone bad are power failure during the flashing process, and flashing the BIOS with an incorrect BIOS version. Because of these dangers you do not flash a BIOS just for fun and giggles, but only if there is a very good reason.

I know the risks, I'm just saying that if you follow the guidelines, you'll be safe. It's not like your'e putting the comuter in a microwave...

Besides, even if the A/C should fail, you still have the battery, so no power failure

I have a 1410-2936 running Windows 7/64 bit version. I want to do a reinstall to get rid of the bloatware. Will I need the product key? The Microsoft label on the underside of my 1410 is faded and I can't read all the letters and numbers. Is there a solution for this problem short of buying a new copy of Win 7? Thanks Chuck

I am very pleased with the skin, looks good, fits great. The wife picked the design, she likes dragons, so I had to make her happy too, she puts up with a lot from me ;) To be honest, I also like that design, it gives it a "unique" look

    What does "LaunchManager Application" do?

The LaunchManager Application makes the Fn+F and Fn+arrow keys perform various functions. So if you press Fn and F1,F2,F3 etc you get different functions and in some of them a big icon appears in the middle of the screen.Very useful....

Yes the built-in Windows power management is very good.Having both is an overkill.

I like it.The silver trim and the silver palmrest makes a very nice contrast with the black.I wouldn't have chosen a dragon but I understand that this is a matter of preference and maybe age.

Ok, I installed LaunchManager and Fn+the F Keys work except for Fn+F1 which is supposed to open Power Management.

When I press Fn+F1, nothing happens. I even tried installing Acer's ePower Management Application. After installing that and restarting, Fn+F1 still does nothing.

I know the F1 key works because when I open an application and press F1, the help file for that application opens.

Glad to be of help. Yes, the new LaunchManager works much better, other than Fn+F1, there's also no more sluggish Fn+F8 and the Fn+F3 works correctly on non-bluetooth machines(will report "No Device" instead of trying to turn it on)

Just check the newer notebook's driver page, they don't update the 1410/1810 anymore... well, only the BIOS

New ePower manager, bluetooth and webcam driver is also uploaded on the 1420/1820p driver page

So presumably all drivers & applications available on the 1820p page are compatible with the 1810T notebook?

And we should only use the 1820p drivers/apps and never use the ones available on the 1810 page?

    Seems kind of counter-intuative.
