    Is there a chance to upgrade a SU3500 to a SU4100?
I have an acer timeline 1810T-352G25n and would like to upgrade the CPU.

As I can see from the image here:
    http://i.imgur.com/B5b1p.jpg
    and here: http://i.imgur.com/6Iifv.jpg

The CPU seems to be exchangeable? or is it soldered?

The question is just - where can I get a SU4100 CPU?
Or is the best way to buy a 1810TZ and just switch the hard disks and the bluetooth chip then?

It's soldered. You need an air station soldering machine and a lot of skill to do something like this. Therefore you won't easily find these cpu available on the market...

    Thank you for your answer.
So what is your idea about the perfect combination of battery life and CPU power?
My 1810T currently has only something around 5 hours battery life, with wireless LAN enabled and medium power on the LED backlight. It has a SU3500 CPU - my expection was that the unit should be a little bit faster and also the battery was expected to last longer. 8+ sounded promising for 8 hours?

A second CPU means that I have about twice the power right? At least if I have 2 apps running each app has 100% of those 1,4 ghz available, right?

    Hi,
    SU7300 plus the 5600 mAh battery. :)
What battery capacity? Some models come with a 4400 mAh battery shipped which is good enough for ~6 hours.
Well, you need to read the fine print ;)
Battery life of my 1810TZ (SU4100, 3GB, WWAN) was about 7 hours last weekend. Only surfing, ~40% with WWAN used, the rest via WLAN.
Not exactly. IF the CPU is the bottleneck, then a dual core will double its cross section ;)
Indeed, there are improvements when multitasking. But the 4100 and the 7300 run at 1.3 GHz.

    Hi Michael

I have the 5600mAh battery and I am running Windows XP professional SP3.
I have the Acer drivers installed for the chipset and the grafic card.
There is no special power management software installed, I could not find any..

on 57% the battery currently says 2:54 hours left... that would be 5:07 for 100%...

What kind of 1810 type do you have? A Acer Aspire 1810T-734G32n in silver? With BT and the mentioned CPU? But the default configuration does not have a UMTS modem, right?

This is an amazing combination for power and lifespan, until, maybe the new models with i3, i5 show up, like the new TimeLineX 1830T, but it will also cost more money

    Hi,
I am running the Win7 Home Premium 64 bit that was preinstalled. Got rid of Acer's power management tool and using the built-in power options. There are much more settings than with XP.
Perhaps using the drivers directly from Intel. Their latest VGA driver allows having different performance settings for battery and plugged operation.
If you select Vista as OS on Acer's download website for the 1810, you can get Acer's power management tool (in the Application tab). But I don't know if this works with XP.
It also depends on usage. Surfing Youtube or other flash sites is much more power consuming. I personally have flash disabled (Opera has some very nifty features) most of the time ;)
I own a black 1810TZ-413G32n. SU4100, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, Bluetooth, UMTS. This model is available here in Germany, where I live.

    Hi,
well, the advantages of the SU7300 over the SU4100 is VT hardware support (not anyone needs that) and, which is important for battery life, enhanced speedstep.
    I agree. So I opted for the 1810TZ. :)

Does this single MB more on the SU7300 make a big difference compared to the SU4100?
Can you give me the precise information about the part behind the 1810tz-.... ?

    Hi,
perhaps you get some better benchmark results, but I doubt you'll feel some significant difference in real world application.
I posted the model# of my 1810TZ above (413G32n). The model# gives no indication for options like BT or UMTS.
If I remember correctly, then the TZ was only available with the SU4100.
    Models with SU7300 were marketed as 1810T. Model# 734G32n would indicate the SU7300, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD. Example: 1810T-734G32N schwarz (LX.SA202.008/LX.PM402.015)
Price starts from 580 € - I paid the same for my 1810TZ, but have Bluetooth and UMTS integrated :)

Interesting how Acer has so many different configuratinos all over the world. Here in Canada, all of the 1810T were the Olympic Edition, and had most of the extra features standard (ex. BT). Maybe a little perk for hosting the olympics ;)

btw, I can't believe how good your english is.

In Germany you can also buy the olympic edition, it has 500GB HDD.
Where did you get the version with UMTS so cheap? At least on ebay those devices are always about 200 Euro more expensive is my experience.

One other topic: I have the Intel WiFiLink 5100 card inside that should be capable of 802.11n with 300 Mbit - but it does not get higher than 54 mbit with my Linksys wrt320N - I have enabled 40Mhz channels and also changed from upper to lower channels for testing already, no joy. On my old asus with 802.11n I had at least 150 Mbit (due to only one antenna). Intel Drivers dated to 04.03.2009 - version 12.4.0.21 - any hints?

I already ordered a 1810TZ-412G25n (1 month old for 350 euro) to replace my 1810T-352G25n now. So I will get the 2 core CPU soon. The 412 does not have BT, so this is also on my "roadmap" to get from the 1810T into the TZ... (will check on how-to's here then)
And then I will also check what difference it makes if I use Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit regarding battery life vs. Win XP prof. 32bit etc. (MSDN licences are available).

And Tim, I have learned English for about 15 Years now, have been a few times in the US and other countries where you have to speak English. I know that in Germany not as many people speak that good English like in other EU countries like the Netherlands, but in general you anway need English almost anywhere. Try to read a manual, download or find software on the net... Difficult without English.

for 11N 300Mbps, set encryption to WAP2+AES, don't use WEP or TKIP.
also make sure to enable 40MHz on your Intel card.

That was the problem, WPA2 with TKIP encryption did not work with 300 Mbit, I switched to AES encryption and now it works fine. Regarding other sources this is a way how Intel wants to push users to use the strongest encryption. Because in theorie WPA2-AES is not required for 300 Mbit. That is obviously just on the intel drivers the case.
    Thank you for your help.

Since we're on the topic of Wifi...

What's the difference between the Intel Wifi Link 1000 and the Wifi Link 5300? My SU2300 has the 1000, and I'm not very impressed with the throughput.

I have the wifi Link 5100, and seems to work in places where other people can't get a wireless connection, so I am impressed with it.

@ hausrocker I have the BT module but no UMTS. Mind you there is a slot for the SIM card, but I'm sure it's just an empty hole (that don't sound right)

I'm a happy new owner of a 1810tz (canadian edition).

Everything's great so far and I'm trying to optimize battery life.

I've seen people have disabled their hdmi port and mic through 1810tray. Which devices should I turn off to do that, none of them seems obvious!

BTW, I've already disabled the webcam and the Atheros ethernet controller.

Another thing is I'm not able to lower the voltage below 0.900 V no matter what I try!

    Hi,
Thanks :) Well, I learned it at school 35 years ago and somehow I managed not to forget too much (unlike with my french) :) International forums are an excellent training :)
You won't believe it: I bought it at mediamarkt.de Ordered online and could pick it up in the local store I selected two days later :)
It is still listed for that price.

Can't complain about the Intel 1000 in my Acer either. It has better reception than the Intel 3945ABG of my Dell Vostro. My wireless router doesn't support N anyways.

Same with my Dell here. But I haven't checked if the slot is really empty, or if the card holder with contacts is already present. In case I need a WWAN connection, I use my Huawei E160 USB thingy.
What's your battery life at the moment?
I simply allowed Windows to "disable components to save energy" in battery mode and adjusted the screen brightness to my needs. I get approx 7 hours with 40% WWAN and 60% WLAN in "web surfing mode". Using Opera with Flash disabled.

Hi han_solo82 - what do you mean with "1810tray"? the simple device manager from Windows where you can disable hardware?

Thank you for the link Michael, I think you made a good deal. But this device also only has the SU4100. I will get exactly the same device hopefully on Monday, just without UMTS for 350 Euro. I already have a USB UMTS stick that works fine with my simyo card. So that is my solution. I dont need UMTS that often so the solution is fine for me I think.

But I am wondering about your battery capacity. My SU3500 (only one core) never manages something around 8 hours. Some users here in the thread even said something between 10 and 12 hours. (with SSD instead of hard disk). But I dont think that this makes such a big difference, what do you think?

Is there any kind of special appication you have started that disables the webcam, optimizes the CPU speed etc.? I have tested "eManager" from Acer, but it was not directly available for the 1810 so it did not work with all the features.

    This one: http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/421850-1810tray.html :)

I know. But I don't see why I should spend another 100€ for a similar specced SU7300 system.

Okay. My battery is the 5400 mAh version. Usage was very light, and I had a tweaked power scheme adjusted. Additionally, I set the power management of the Intel VGA drivers (I am using ver .2104 from Intel) to max. battery. Battery bar shows a power demand of about 7W (WLAN on), and approx. 9W with WWAN. I have not measured the time myself, the 7 hours are estimated by Battery Bar.
On the effect of a SSD: assuming such device needs 1W less than a conventional HDD, then this would theoretically increase the battery lifetime by ~10%, which is estimated 50 minutes.

No. In the power management options, I set all hardware related settings (USB etc.) to energy saving settings. Nothing else. "Windows can shut down device to save energy" seems to be default for most components.

I have owned a 1410 Olympic Edition for a couple of weeks now and have noticed the exact same problem. The really weird thing is, this only happens when the lid is open. While the notebook is closed, it sits perfectly flush with the desk, but the gap between the front right rubber foot and the surface appears and increases as the lid is opened to normal working angle. It seems as though one of the hinges is too tight and/or eccentric, causing a slight twisting of the chassis when the lid is opened. Pressing the right hinge (which DOES stick out too much on one side of the barrel-shaped rear frame - I guess that's what causes the whole ordeal) or the top right corner of the (open) lid brings the notebook to the normal "stance" but of course, this lasts only as long as I hold it pressed - if released, the rubber foot goes up again.

Have you managed to solve this issue? Any ideas on how to adjust the hinges? Can they be tightened/loosened/centered DIY somehow? Thanks.

I got my bt2.1 module from them and their instructions were vey helpful. My bt2.1 module is one of those ones though that constantly blinks.

    Very annoying!

If I could find someone selling the bt2.1 modules that don't constantly blink, I'd purchase one and redo the installation.

LOL its funny what annoys some people ... I have the same module. No problem with the blinking. How about some blue paint on the LED, then it will look like its always on. :D

As for the pictures above, be careful routing the module wire like he suggests, it can get caught under the right trackpad clicky thingy and prevent it from functioning. I routed the wire closer to the board and the plug point - problem solved! Oh, althogh a knife blade is ok to help release the clips at the top of the keyboard, a credit card is better for lifting it. Less chance of damaging keys.

I have just taken a BT module out of a 1810T352G25n and installed it in a 1810TZ412G25n - quite easy. 20 minutes for opening 2 devices, uninstallation of the module and reinstallation in the other notebook.

By the way: I found out that there are 2 batteries available, one with 5600mAh and one with 5800mAh.
The 5800mAh version was included the 1810TZ that came with Windows 7 64bit.

Launch Manager. You should find it on the Drivers&Applications disc you hopefully created ;)
The version on Acer website is older than that on the disc. This at least applies to the downloads for 1810T/TZ.

On my battery, they put a sticker with 5600 mAh/63 Wh. Another sticker on the same battery says: 5.27 Ah. Model # of the battery is UM09E36. I have an 1810TZ with Win7/64.

You can get a newer version on Acer's site, but you have to browse the downloads for newer models.

The latest Launch Manager I've found (and am currently using on my 1810T) is v3.0.10 - 2009/12/24 from the 1820PT's downloads.

I know. That's why I was referring to the 1810 downloads only. You never know if some other version of launchmanager (or other Acer tool) isn't customised for certain models.

Congratulations on your forum, this very well.

I own a Acer Aspire 1825PTZ preinstalled with Windows 7. I bought the same drive that brings the computer to test installing Windows XP and I need to have this operating system because of some specific programs and not work with another OS

I changed the hard drive for testing, I installed the XP with an external DVD drive and the drivers have taken advantage of 1810tz and runs everything but the touch screen.

Do any of you know where I can find the driver or the software that manages the screen?

    Thank you very much.

    Hi,
Touch screens are natively supported with Windows 7. So no additional software is needed (and probably supplied).

I guess you are lost if you intend to run XP on that system and making advantage of the touch screen feature.
Perhaps virtualization with VirtualBox or VMware is an option...

The Windows 7 brings virtualization to windows xp but in its higher version and you have to pay for it. The VMware and VirtualBox or do not know how it works but I prefer a clean install of XP that I work well. Complicating the problem is finding how to work the damn screen and have tried almost everything but no way to make it work ... : (

Sorry for my English which is the google translator jejeje

I could use some help with this one, I tried overclocking by editing the timing tables and rewriting that to the module so as to not lose the important info like serial# and other identifiers. Viewing the SPD, in Lavalys Everest Ultimate v5.50, on both the stock 2GB Samsung and a 2GB Kingston 99U5295-011.A00LF RMN2-667/2G PC2-5300 DDR2-667 now state that the modules are indeed 400MHz DDR2-800 6-6-6-18; with appropriate timings for the lower speeds in the table. However when I reboot this Acer Aspire 1410-8803 with SU3500 cpu the ram still only runs at DDR2-667.

Thanks anyway. I tried it and does not work because it does not detect any dispositovo touch or serial or usb and it happens to me all the programs I've tried.

Keep in mind that Thaiphoon Burner does not work on a 64bit OS.Check the first page of this thread. You can always overclock on a 32 bit OS and then transfer the sticks.

That's what I did. I dual-booted into a copy of win7 32-bit, ran Thaiphoon Burner, then deleted the copy of windows. With that being said, the newest version of Thaiphoon Burner doesn't even allow writing to the RAM anymore. I had to search online for an older version that allowed me to.

I also had the pleasure of using the tape trick to fix what I screwed up when writing the RAM. I accidentally chose the 2gb dump instead of the 1gb one, lol.

notice my immediate previous post?=> http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...810tz-timeline-tweaks-2-a-47.html#post6269252 I'm using the stock Vista HPx86 (32-bit) from Acer. Successfully reflashed two different modules' SPD and notice my results in that previous post. If you want screenshots of Lavalys Everest and Thaiphoon Burner for proof just let me know.

Ghetto Child, try checking in CPU-Z instead. Also, check in the BIOS and see if it'll tell you anywhere about the memory to make sure it's actually at the desired speed.

during bootup the POST text says 0667 speed, pretty sure my bios is still chosing to run it at 667. Another note, before flashing the SPD I was on 5-5-5-15 timings and now I'm on 6-5-5-15 timings. However I never ran 2x2GB untill after they were flashed. I had flashed them individually per reboot & swap using configs of 1x1GB paired with 1x2GB.
