Like written in the fine print "depending on usage". The built-in UMTS modem is kind of battery sucker, adding 2-3 W to the power consumption. Battery Bar guestimation shows 8:50 on my system. UMTS is off, Bluetooth also.

Same system here. Including UMTS modem. Just pulled the plug and running on battery. 21:18 MESZ.

    I don't have 1810tray installed.

Your akkuverschleib(battey wear) is 0.0%? Is it a brand new one, or did you just reset it? Either way, BatteryBar takes a few weeks of use to get a more accurate reading on a battery unit. Upon my first few uses it estimated a Lifetime of 12-15hrs, but now, more than a month later, it's more accurate at a little over 6hrs.

My system already discharges about twice the amount when running on battery...
But I have Windows XP, WLAN and BT enabled. (Screenshot_1.jpg) - 14515mW

Without BT, without WLAN, darkest level for the display it is still 9104 mW (Screenshot_2.jpg)

Is the difference between XP and Windows 7 that much?!

Ok, just checked on Windows 7 ultimate 32bit version:
Rate for discharging on my system with chipset drivers, intel GMA drivers, wireless disabled, BT disabled: 9100 mW.

So the question: Why does your system need that much less power?!

I hope SP1 will introduce battery optimizations... it's clear to see that XP is less power hungry than win7

The laptop is five weeks old :) I would not expect anything else.
I also have a Dell Vostro, 27 months old. Battery wear is ~10%. But battery wear over time might be heavily depending on usage pattern.

That's because of the statistical approach BB is using. But the discharge rate should be accurate since read from the OS. With that, and with knowledge of your battery's capacity you are able to check if BB (or other tools for that job) is over or underestimating. My battery has a capacity of 62 Wh, typical value for discharge rate is ~7 W on light usage (simply browsing this forum and replying to other posts). 62/7=9 (roughly).

I think, the power configuration matters. I am on a custom profile based on "Energy Saver". Aero is disabled (this might matter at least on Vista/7), plus the VGA is set to "power saving on battery" in Intel (I am using version .2104) driver options. WLAN is on, WWAN and bluetooth are off, no devices connected. Screen brightness is 20%.
    Oh, Flash plugin is disabled.

Another thought: You seem to run a clean install. Perhaps Acer ePower tools does something my battery life profits from. The tool isn't installed any more, but perhaps the settings are still present and used by Windows power management.

No. 9100 mW vs. 9104 mW. No difference at all, plus the readings are extremely volatile.
Windows 7 advantage over XP: it has much more options to influence power consumption.

    Okay. 0:12, 22.2% battery capacity left :)
A few minutes ago, I turned down WLAN and switched to wired network. Seems as if this needs more power

I also want to mention that the computer basically runs with stock configuration, so no undervolting etc. is done.

No, there is no way to increase brightness of the LCD provided you already have it on max settings.

Those screen filters will give you a matte display, but the picture quality will decrease, including brightness.

    Hi!
I need a bag for mine 1410 (11.6'') and I want to know if a generic netbook sleeve/case/bag would fit.
    For example this.
And what do you prefer - a bag (with pockets etc.) or a sleeve (I would put that in my backpack)?

I prefer a cushioned sleeve you can put the 1410 in. Then you can just toss the 1410 (in the sleeve of course) into your backpack.

I recommend an Elecom ZeroShock III.

    Thankyou for advice :)
Unfortunately ebay.co.uk (only place where I can find something beside books and DVDs shipped to Latvia) doesn't have that :(
How much does a good quality cushioned sleeve cost? For now I'm browsing through 8 pounds average.

What is the driver most adecuate for the 1810TZ? and what's the difference among these three drivers?

I'm having prblems with 1080p flash videos in the internal screen (frames dropped althought CPU is at 40%). Currently I'm using the 2141 driver.
I'm also having frames dropped on external 1080p screen watching scaled TV programs recorded with media player.

I am still in .2104 and I haven't encountered any issues.
Issues are fixed, features and new issues are added ;) Seriously, it's a good idea to have a look at the changelog.
What version of flash is used?
No dropped frames with the internal display?

Hi there, new to these forums but was following this thread pretty closely. I bought an AO752-2105 which is VERY similar to the 1410.

After reading this thread and one in another forum, I found that the BCM92035NMD bluetooth module was compatible with this model as well. After purchasing one along with the cable, I began to install it. The only problem was that the bluetooth connector on my motherboard has 5 pins while the module I bought has 8. I have included pictures as examples.

My question is do I have the wrong cable? Is there an adapter I need? Or did I just mess up and buy the wrong chip?

Thanks for any help, this forum seems like it has many very helpful members.

Thanks for the reply. That's strange, the connector in the photo on that link is the same size as what I have, only mine has more wires attached to it (see the empty connectors on it). Other than that, it's the other end that's weird on mine and won't connect to the motherboard. So close too :(

And yeah, I did open up the notebook to do it and so it was pretty disappointing to reassemble it with no results.

EDIT: Actually, I think I am going to make my own cable once I can find the right connectors. Is anyone able to post a closeup image of their connection so that I put the wires to the right spots please?

    Thanks :D

    no idea.

from what i see, intel pushes new drivers (in a faster pace) to newer platform/chipsets/boards

hence the HD Boards getting newer drivers first.

later, it trickles down to other chipsets.

interestingly, intel's newer graphic drivers are more integrated (i.e. single driver that is compatible with variety of graphic chipsets within the same family (?) or development family (?)).

so, whenever i'm looking for GS45 driver, i'll check the HD desktop boards' drivers :D

I guess this option is useful if your battery is not properly detected.

Battery Bar is right now available for 1 USD - you can pay with paypal and upgrade to the pro version.

Osiris Development - BatteryBar, the most accurate battery meter for Windows

I am still wondering how you managed to get a discharge rate of 5400mW..

Mine is so much higher and I have no idea why. Even without BT, without WLAN, brightness lowest level I have so much more.

btw: new firmware available from Acer: Fixes LG LCD with flickering issue.

I have just upgraded to version 3310 - can anyone confirm that this solves the flickering issues? I did not worry about them, and I had the impression that this got better when I disabled the energy saver options in the intel drivers.

Can we collect information about current uncharge rate?

Let's rather talk about an average value of 7W. ;)

I am running the factory install, and of course I got rid of all the trial versions Acer dumped onto the HDD. Also trashed Acer Screensaver, MS Works, all that Adobe crap (reinstalled the flash plugin for Firefox/Opera later) and some more I already forgot.
No Antivirus software running in the background.

I found the webcam software being of no use for me and uninstalled that also. Webcam is disabled in Device Manager since I don't need it. No idea about its contribution to energy demand.

Updated chipset, storage, WLAN and VGA drivers with versions directly from Intel website. Also grabbed LAN drivers from Atheros.

I created a custom energy profile based on "power saver":
    • CPU limited to 80% on battery (The 4100 should then run at 1200 MHz instead of 1300 MHz max)
    • Power saving options for USB, PCIexpress, WLAN are set to maximum power savings
    • Maximum power saving options are also set for the Video stuff.
    • Also, max power saving for battery operation is set in the options of Intel VGA drivers (I have version .2104 from Intel website installed).
    That was all.

It is worth noting, that power consumption is lower if I use WLAN instead of a wired connection (which runs at 1 GBit/s in my local network).

I can't get these drivers to work on my 1810T SE. It says not compatible or something like that. Any idea?

I had a problem with video drivers on my 1810tz. The solution is complete uninstall of the driver supplied by acer. Do it from the Device Manager, right click on the video adapter and click uninstall. Reboot. The setup.exe from intel driver did not always work for me, so go back to the Device manager, right click and choose update. Then point it where you unpacked the zip from intel. Reboot. Done. After this the setup.exe from newer intel installations should work.
