I don't think they exist, yet. Also, I don't think a 9, or 12, cell battery will be the same size as the original.

I have an acer 1810TZ since January and usually goes right. The problem I had is that the laptop often shutdowns itself (as if unplugging) when windows 7 is loading (just before the windows welcome screen (beginning)). It had a partition for ubuntu and it also happen. I contacted acer and after many dizziness, I restored it to factory default settings with the Acer eRecovery and picked it up for customer technical service. The problem appears occasionally (infrequently) and always at the same time, with the battery or charger. (No time for a heat problem).

Acer sent it back with a repair report that said they changed the UMA thermal module and that it had passed a stress test for one hour with a positive result. After days without any sign of giving problems, the problem happened today again.

Happens it to anyone else? Do you know why it happens?

Since I bought my Acer 1810t a few months ago, it has been working great and I'm really happy with it.
But this morning I had a problem: it won't turn on anymore, even with the AC adapter plugged in there are no lights on and it responses to nothing.
I removed the battery for a few minutes and held the power on button for 30sec, but after that it still won't work.
Does anyone here has an idea what I could try next? or should I just send it to Acer to let them have a look?
If I decide to send it to Acer, can I safely open it first and transfer data from the hdd to an other pc?
    Thanks in advance.

My hard drive is OK. It has just passed a CHKDSK with no errors. When it shuts down it doesn't restart automatically, I have to press the on button. Then it boots and windows ask me how do I want to boot (Normally, Errors proof,...). (Sorry if it is not exact , i'm using spanish version of windows 7). In previous W7 installations it said "use the repair disc, etc".

Use the repair disc and if it asks you if you "allow it to restore to a previous point" accept it.It is probable that some driver(e.g Intel graphics)conflicts with the loading of win7.Using the repair disc will find it and remove it.

I think you better send it before your warrantie expires. There isn't much you can do....Sure you are allowed to open the HDD bay. That's why it's there, for you to open it and do upgrades and transfers...

On my Acer Aspire one 752 (sold my 1410, got this one for $348 in Canada) I get a pretty wicked discharge rate...especially considering it runs dual core 1200's and doesnt seem to clock down like my 1410 did. This is on powersave mode:

EDIT: My 752 is basically the same as my 1410, looks identical. Different processor, its running 4GBs 800 ram, Windows 7, etc.

What was the processor of your previous 1410???I wouldn't call that a wicked discharge...

Did you get it at Walmart? The Walmart units only had 3 cell batteries. Check the ua of your battery.

    Maybe use 1810T tray?

I did get it at Walmart, but I had a 1410 from the Staples deal...my new 3 cell went into my 1410 and I sold it that way and I kept the 6 cell fo myself! I was upfront when I was selling it, I advertised it as a 3 brand new cell battery.

Using 1810T now! Great for the fan management, but this always runs in dual 1200 mhz even in powersave mode and having all the settings for it to clock down. Oh well, doesn't seem to affect battery life much if any.

It was a single core 1.4 I beleive, now running dual core 1.2. What would you consider then a good discharge rate? Mine looked good when comparing to the other folks. Lets see yours posted up, interested to see what you are considering the benchmark of discharge rates should be.

I already found the reason now why my system discharges the battery so much more:
    Windows XP vs. Windows 7
For Windows XP the advanced power cheme is not available. That means the USB ports, the whole PCI bus, all the hardware that can get disabled beside the wireless interface, bluetooth, display can not get powered down on Windows XP.

I think this is the best reason for upgrading to Win 7 in my case.

Would you recommend to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7?
Or do a blank installation and then in addition install the Windows 7 drivers?
Or use the Acer image of Windows 7?
64bit or 32bit edition? I have a MSDN license and could basically take any version: Which one do you recommend for my 1810tz with SU4100 CPU, 4 GB Ram.

On Win XP I sometimes have the issue that everything hangs, mouse movement is possible, but the system freezes and does not react if I change the tab or app in the front. If I then disable bluetooth for a second or disable WLAN for a second it immediately does everything I did in the mean time, like minimize one app, change the tab, do all the clicks I did in the meantime. Any idea?

    @hausrocker

If your acer came with eRecovery (programs > Acer >eRecovery ) run it before you do a clean install and select "make back up and driver recovery disk". It should be the bottom selection (there are 2). That way, when you are done your clean install, all of your drivers will be in the DRV section. All of the bloatware will be in a separate section (APP) in case you want any of them, like Skype or the video conferencing program. This way, you don't have to figure what drivers to install from the Acer site.

For about a month, the fan is making much more noise than it used to, theres clearly a problem. I tried to disassemble this little baby but with no success.
Has anyone else encountered that problem ?

You could not disassemble it, or it did not solve the problem? If you search the 1410T threads there is an issue with the fan blade hitting something, but i forget exactly what it is.

I think you get PM's and the right to post links after you have posted 10 times(or something like that).
My advise is to not try and fix it manually.Probably there isn't much you can do,and you can always do more damage than good.Be patient and eventually I am pretty certain we will find some aplication that will control the fan.

can you watch 1080p movies with no problems? I have w7 x64, the last intel drivers and use MP classic (because I speak in spanish and I watch all movies with subtitles and I cant use them with WMP) and all HD movies have microcuts in the image (very annoying) and there is noise in the sound (like static interference, i dont know how to explain it). The CPU is at 40-50% , so I think is problem of drivers,
    (excuse me for my english)
Any solution? all of you can watch 1080p movies with no problem (and with subtitles)?

Another quick question, I have my headphones plugged into the jack, but sometimes out of no where the noise comes out of the speaker for a quick 2 second then transfers back into the headphones. Any ideas?

I'm using 1810 tray fan speed control program on my 1410 to keep my laptop quiet. My settings are the following=

tjmax at 105c; and I selected= "try to hold cpu temp around 56c raising from default 53c I think. This keeps my fan mostly in slow/medium speeds when watching movies at a 20-30% cpu speed but temperatures hover around 60c. Is leaving it at 60c temp for hours on end while watching movies bad for my 1410?

Use Splash Player Lite, works like a charm on these lappys for mkv. It supports the Intel 4500MHD for full GPU hardware acceleration. After trying it, I removed MP classic and VLC from my Timeline. No need for any codecs, highly recommended
Get it here: Free Splash Lite - Next Generation Player homepage

    Ah ok, thanks.
Those people found a way to silence it, if it's because of a hardware thing (metal parts rub etc), i don't see how a bios update would fix it :)

The application doesn't work on hardware,it just controls the fan so that it works as much as needed at lower rpms and not all the time at the highest settings...I have a1810TZ and I use 1810tray and believe me my notebook is always cool and dead silent...

No 60c it's just fine for a notebook...The problems start at over 75c...Even then the notebook will slow down and eventually shut off long before any damage is done...I use 1810tray and I have set my default temp at 52c......

    anyone got that following too?

shutdown your 1810, unplug power and remove battery.
wait a few seconds, then reassemble everything.
now systemclock and bios settings are reseted.

is it only mine or did acer forget to put in an systemclock/bios battery?

    thx

    Hi,
This should not happen. And this does not happen with my 1810TZ.

Something like this seems to have happened. Either ask the vendor or your local Acer support for service.
