I have a 1410T, SU2300 model. I have had it for 6 months and have used it with no problem at all. Recently, however, I am starting to get small electrical shocks that I feel if my fingers go near the edge of the keyboard or near the USB ports (while plugged into the power brick). Sometimes the computer will reboot or go white screen after I feel one of these shocks. I will likely be sending it to Texas for repairs if I can't figure out what the problem is. I have put a BT module in it but it has no other modifications.

Anyone have a similar problem. Oh ... it's sapphire blue.

Wow, that's freaky man. I have the same model netbook as you (mine is in black though) and that has never happened to me. I've owned my netbook for about a year now. It could just be the luck of the draw, and you may have gotten a dud. At least your netbook is still in warranty!

There was a thread about that problem, Bronsky. It had to do with the power cable not being connected to the grounding pin correctly.

I had a similar problem on my desktop. I think this can happen by installing and uninstalling a bunch of software and then your harddrive gets all messed up. I solved it on my desktop by using a good defragmenter.

    1. Download the latest CC cleaner (download.com or the website), clean up, then use the registry fixer.

    2. Download and Run MyDefrag v4.3.1 my defrag 4.3.1 on your system disk (select system disk monthly). It will take 1-2 hours and completely sort and reorganize your data. I'm willing to bet that it may solve your problems.

Any way to get the latest Intel Graphics driver working on the 1810T? I get some error message that it is not supported by my system and I should use the drivers from Acer.

Haven't posted in a long time. I'm about to install a seagate momentus xt 500gb into my 1810T. Has anyone made this change? Also any words of wisdom?

one week after the warranty expired, my gateway ec1436u "died". It apperas there is no power when pluged in. it might be the adapter is dead or the connection between the adaptor and laptop is gone bad. I wonder if anybody can come up with some advice how to repair/replace the system.

I have a 1810t and after reading this topic it works great (thanks for all the tips and tweaks!), but I keep having one problem.

My audio out 3.5 mm jack is sending out a weird sound. The sound from the speakers is fine, but the out is losing a part of the sound (tested on several headphones and speakers). It starts off fine but after 5 seconds or so (consistently) it loses the lower spectrum and sounds "digital". HD audio is off and there's no effects active.

If I play with the balance I can correct this so that it sounds a it should. Playing with the quality (cd/dvd/studio quality) doesn't make a difference and the realtec driver and the windows 7 driver both have it. Using the windows 7 driver now and having the balance so that the left is a little bit less loud than right.

Anybody encounter the same problem or know's what's going on? I bought the laptop second hand so rma is not a real option. With this work around I can live with it, but it would be nice to have it working like it should.

Check the adapter first, since that would be the easiest and cheapest thing to replace. Buy or borrow a multitester, or try a different adapter if you know someone with a compatible Acer.

What driver exactly do you want to install?
Select your OS here to get working drivers

    Michael

    Hi,
This could be a hardware problem since according to your statement, Windows generic drivers didn't help either.

In case you have a Live Linux system on an USB stick, you may try this in order see if there is the same issue.

Cheapest workaround would be an USB audio thingy.

Thanks for the reply's both :)

It's on battery as well. I work in an electronics store and can easily try some other ones. Got 2 for my asus (old laptop, now mediacenter) wich I can try (yes I know about voltage and such).

I will try the linux. It's not worth it for me to usb audio thing, because it only for listening music while working in school (I also don't like things sticking out from my laptop). If the linux doesn't work I will take it apart, but in a period in which I don't need it as much for school :) I do want to find out why this is happening.

As a side note, sometimes it does function well and when it's not I find it quite weird that by adjusting the balance it works well..

    Hi,

you might rather try other playback software instead. You might also look for updated decoders.

On my 1410 with SU3500 and Ubuntu 10.04 it plays fine with a bit of hiccups in VLC, while i have a bunch of Firefox tabs open. Maybe try newer version of Ubuntu? I heard 10.10 performs even better. You will still be unable to play 1080p though. Just saying.
As for Momentus XT, should work fine.

I just reformatted and I can't seem to update my Intel graphics driver. On my previous install I got the update via Windows Update but this time it is not working. When I try to get the update off of the intel site it says I need to get the update from Acer. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi,

is this a clean install or a factory restore?
In case of a factory restore: Download the drivers from Intel, then uninstall the existing VGA drivers using "Programs ..." in Control Panel. You should be then able to install Intel's drivers without a problem.

Is that OSD problem only with the Bluetooth switch (Fn-F3)? Or are other switches affected also?
Might be a problem with Launch Manager. You should have at least version 3.0.06 installed.

I hope some of you guys can help me out with my issues and if it is worth sending it back to Acer (1 month warranty from Acer left & 1 year warranty left from Credit Card company).

When I use headphones plugged into the jack the sound goes through fine. But if I pause the movie/music etc for awhile and resume about 20 seconds later the sound will eject from the speakers for a quick second or two before going through the headphones again.

My second issue is the battery. It doesn't show the notification anymore stating that the battery is low and I need to plug it into a power source (I checked the power setting and it is on default where you will be notified when it hits 10%). It would automatically shutdown/hibernate when it gets to about 18% of battery life left.

Thanks for reading and hope to hear some feedback! :)

For me, this looks like some software issue.
Acer will restore the factory install and send it back to you.

You might try a Linux Live system run off a USB flash drive (Ubuntu or Mint are fine since they support the 1410/1810 hardware near perfectly) and see if there is the same problem.

I guess, Windows reports the remaining capacity falsely - software problem.
You may adjust the notification to report "low battery" at 20% for testing. Also, install Battery Bar and see what it reports. It needs some time to "learn".

In case the battery is bad, this is - as far as I remember - unfortunately not covered by the warranty.

Alright I'll give it a test. But it uses to show the 10% notification, then suddenly it stopped providing that information.

Damn that sucks, battery is not covered?!... boo warranty coverage!!

There are several things you can try:
Run memtest86+ overnight. If there are no errors reported, then this must not necessarily mean your memory is error free.
On Windows 7, there is a built-in memory test also. Please check Windows help for details about usage.

There might also be some software or driver related issue. Check event log if there are some useful informations.
Last resort would be to restore the laptop to factory install.

Hi, I have just performed a bios recovery after a wrong flash (Windows 7 gave a BSOD during flash procedure) and I would like to share it with you.

    INTRODUCTION:
After the BSOD I had black screen and HD led flashing at power up. No other signs of life.
However, the pc was able to enter in a special "Recovery mode" by pressing and holding Fn + ESC before turning it on.
When the notebook is in recovery mode, the HD and Power leds blink.
If your pc is able to enter recovery mode, then you should be able to bring it back to life by following this procedure!

    INSTRUCTIONS:
    1) Get an USB pendrive and format it to FAT.
    2) Download the following archive:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=91IAR49X
It contains the latest bios available (v3314).
    3) Put the content of the archive on the pendrive.
    4) Connect the pendrive to your dead little silicon-hearted puppy :)D ), press and hold FN + ESC and power on the pc, then release FN + ESC.
    5) You're done. Please cross your fingers. The pc should start reading from pendrive, and then the flash should start. It takes some minutes. The fan becomes loud when the flash is in progress. When it finishes, it shuts down.

NOTE: I don't know if all files I put in the archive are needed. I have read some guides and I have "made a sum" of them... BUT IT WORKED!! :)

in case Netflix is using Flash, then it might help to disable hardware acceleration within Flash.

Nope. I am not very good at finding excellent deals online.

For this model, Acer decided to save a few bucks and ship with 667 instead of 800 RAM. I have upgraded my original 667 to 800 and saw about 10% increase in speed.

RAM in the link above would work just fine.
