Looks like updated graphics software is out for 1410 (and maybe other units, but not sure what graphics they have).

    Version:8.15.10.2281

I was on version ending in 2206. Anyone install yet?

I'm thinking on adding a PCI express SSD to my 1810Tz lappy.

In this image you can see that there are two PCI-e slots, one for the WLAN (the one with the black connector) and one for the WWAN that my device doesn't have. This one is wich I want to use.
    http://i.imgur.com/B5b1p.jpg

Old Netbooks use PCI-e SSD ( See this for example) and I'm wondering if some of you have tried this mod before. The cost of one of these SSD are enought hight and I don't want to buy one to discover that it doesn't work on the acer socket.

    Anyone with experience on this?

    Hello der_mali-
I've owned this 1810T for a year now and I think, for the $$, it's hard to beat as an ultraportable with very few dificiencies when compared to a fullsize notebook. Moreover, this user forum, which I joined long ago, is an invaluable asset and thanks to you and all who have provided user feedback, it continue to be.

When I first purchased this 1810T, I searched everywhere on this forum and was unable to find any information related to a Power On Password Enabling through the BIOS, like most other computers allow.
I like this feature, especially if notebook is ever lost or stolen. If the unit can't get past the BIOS enabled Power On Password, it's effectively a brick for anyone who has no rights to its possesion and use; and, correct me if I'm wrong, but that may continue, even if a new HDD is installed.

So, if anyone can clarify for me where within the 1810T BIOS, Power On Password can be enabled, or that it is non-existent in these BIOS's, I would appreciate it.

BTW: I just ordered a Travelmate 8172, for my wife [university student], but if she prefers the 1810T instead, I'll start driving the 8172.

It is called Supervisor Password. It is in one of tabs in the BIOS. Very easy to find.

    Cheers!

    Hi,
There are only the soldering points, you need to add the socket yourself.

Apart from that, WWAN devices only use the USB part of the socket, so I am not sure if the PCIe part is functional here.

    DOH!
I had no idea supervisor password had to be enabled first; seems like every other IBM, Toshiba, etc, the BIOS POP could be set w/out setting a Supervisor p/w.
All this time I stressed over how to secure the 1810 w/out a POP.
    All better now.

    Thanks

Make sure that Wi-Fi power-saving is disabled both in advanced driver settings (available via Device Manager) and in Windows power-profile.
If it's OK (meaning set to max performance) make sure that your drivers are up to date (and verify that new drivers did not enable power saving again).

Last but not least- if nothing helps- open the hatch where Wi-Fi is and make sure that both antennas are connected- had one got disconnected somehow your range would have been terrible.

Ditto for the recommendation to check the antenna leads. My TM 8172 had that problem: initially WiFi connections were easy and stable, and suddenly I had to be practically in front of the access point to connect. Opened up the case, and an antenna lead had come disconnected.

Ever since launch I had my 1810T SU7300 Olympic edition, I have never been able to use the HDMI port (but never tried the factory OS, pulled the stock drive immediately and clean-installed Win7 Ultimate X64 and WinXP Pro X86 on another drive) with the driver provided on Acer's support site. Will the official Intel GMA driver enable the HDMI port?

Also, just yesterday I finally swapped out my memory for 2x4GB Hynix 800MHz modules. I can Matlab to all my heart's content now, 8GB of RAM!! This little guy is starting to show his age but still has so much muscle compared to many similarly-sized models in the market.

How are the temperatures for you guys with the 1410 SU2300? I'm using 1810Tray, and I noticed that my netbook now idles at around 58C. This seems strange, because before it would idle a heck of a lot lower. Now it does a good job of making my legs uncomfortably hot. It never did this before! No matter how high I set the fan in 1810Tray, I can never get it below 56-58C.

Check it with another router.Maybe the problem is in your router or your connection and not the wi-fi card.(Try also changing channel in your router).

    Hi,
I'm trying to install XP on my 1810TZ (with USB floppy and USB DVD) but keep getting the 0x0000007b BSOD :(

First I tried setting in BIOS the SATA mode to IDE.

Booting without specifying any SATA drivers, no joy, BSOD 0x0000007b

Ok, F6 method with the latest Intel Rapid Storage floppy SATA drivers, selecting the last option

    BSOD 0x0000007b again

In BIOS change SATA mode to AHCI, then again F6 methor.

BSOD 0x0000007b again

    What am I doing wrong?

    Please help. Thank you

The first time i noticed this problem wasn't with my home router but with some other routers.
With my home router the notebook enstabilished the connection perfectly. Trying with other routers, they appeared in the bottom bar of Windows 7 with 2-3 stars (i mean the connection level) but after clicking on theese the notebook was not able to enstabilish any connection.
    What could be the problem?

Thanks for the help and sorry for my bad english.

    Hello!!
I am Francisco from SPAIN. I am really happy with this computer is very small and powerfull :D
I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 on it. I have used the tips to get a better energy efficiency but I would like to choose a low cpu speed when I am doing nothing really important.
I used CPu freq , and the frecuencies available are 1300 mhz and 1,20. On Windows i can choose 800mhz with the 1810 tray utility.
Is there any way to add a cpu freq? Or change the cpu speed to a lower one?
I was researching but with no succes, I can't wirte in /sys/system/cp0/cpu... file for add the frecuency.

Other thing , this computer has an mini pci express right ? Is it already used for the wireless card or it is free?
    Thanks in advanced, Francisco.

I know that the 1810 has 2 Mini PCI slots and one is used for the Wi/Fi and the other for the WWAN module unless you dont have one installed.

    Hi,
What CPU is installed? That is the most important question. Some CPUs used in the 1810/1410 series, like SU4100 do not support lower CPU frequencies than 1200 MHz.
As already mentioned, one PCIe slot is occupied by the WLAN card, WWAN models have an additional slot. So there is no free slot available.

For anyone experiencing erratic mouse movement when using the touch-pad, it appears to be hardware related. I have the 1810T Olympic Edition, and from day one I thought something was off about the touch-pad. Not as responsive as I expected, sometimes was tracking my movement wrong, other times not even moving at all. Over time I’ve tried many different drivers, and many different sensitivity settings, but nothing seemed to help. Eventually I got in touch with Acer costumer support, and they have replace the touch-pad assembly under warranty. Now the touch-pad works great, so a heads up to everyone out there with similar problems

I'm having an issue with using down + right on my 1810T while another key is also pressed. Is this a known problem? It doesn't do this with any other two direction combo, just down and right (down/left, up/right, up/left all work fine).

Any ideas? I have the latest 1810T bios.

i have an acer aspire timeline 1810t olympic edition running windows 7 home premium 64bit.

when using the exe i am getting an error: This computer does not meet the minimum system requirements for installing the software.

Just a tip for those of you with Atheros network adaptors (wired or wireless), I've been using this link to get driver updates and they update them regularly as I've already downloaded 4 versions since buying this Aspire 1410 in 2009? I think they update several times a year. I'm still trying to find latest drivers for a discontinued Atheros AR5005G WiFi adaptor.

Any idea where to get a Keyboard Cover for the 1810TZ (European Style)?

I can only find Silicone Covers for US Keyboards.

The European Keyboard has the "enter" key in shape of "7".

Sorry if this has been talked about before, but going through 183 pages of this thread is a lot of work, and the search feature hates me, haha.

Anyways, will the 1810T 5600mAh battery fit in the 1410 SU2300, which has a 4400mAh battery? They look like they are the same exact thing on the Acer store, but it doesn't show that they're compatible with each other. I would prefer to purchase the OEM battery from Acer, rather than some third party.

    Thanks.

I forgot to mention that the "no-name" batteries work just fine. The official Acer batteries are still made by some Chinese slave labor company - they just slap an Acer logo on it. I bought the battery I linked to above, and it's been fabulous.

Sweet, thanks man. I'm pretty sure that my stock battery is getting pretty worn out... it can barely last 2 hours and 30 minutes, which sucks for a netbook. Getting the 5600mAh battery for 6+ hours will be very nice.

What kind of mileage have you been getting with your 5600mAh battery on your 1410?

I can't seem to get the darn thing to work. I followed the guide exactly, but it seems like it will only clock down to 1196mhz, and then 1197mhz is the max. So nothing ever changes. Any ideas?

8 hrs shouldn't be a problem at all with the 5600 mAh battery. I personally can can confirm that (SU4100). No additional tweaks or 3rd party software needed.

I have the same with my 1810t, I have the intel wifi card, the intel wifi link 5100 AGN, which I found to be the problem. You can search google for it, there are many people with problems. Drivers updating etc it all doesn't work.

What I did is to disable the (draft) n on my wifi card. Now at least it doesn't disconnect / fail to connect all the time. Sucks about the speed loss but it is acceptable untill I get a new card. Good luck!

Are there any people on here who have put and ssd in their 1810t? I am thinking about replacing the stock hdd, but am lost about the choice for a good one. I don't need much storage (got a nas), but do not want to power usage to increase and don't want to spend a fortune. I want to upgrade because of the increased speed.

Get an OCZ Vertex2 SSD. They have the older Sandforce controller, but they read/write around 275MB/s and have a SATA-2 interface. The newer drives with a SATA-3 interface won't work at the full speed with the 1810 anyway since it doesn't support SATA-3.

You can find Vertex2's as small as 40GB I think, and they're fairly cheap now. I haven't had a single problem with mine in either a 1410 or an 1810, and the speed increase is awesome. Also, my battery life increased when I upgraded to the SSD. That makes sense since the Vertex2's use a max of 2.5W, and way less when idle/sleeping.

    You can't go wrong!

I am using a Samsung 256GB SSD since I have the book (actually Corsair relabeld the Samsung drives and sold them as P256) and to be honest I would never use any PC again without an SSD (even upgraded my wife´s MSI Wind Netbook).

The speed increase is fabulous and also battery life increased. OCZ Vertex2 or Corsair Force drives (SATA 2) should be quite cheap these days as long as the new Sandforce solutions just came out which will lower the 1st genertion prices.

    Hi Scottie,
Q: does CrystalCPUID work with the SU3400 ?
    Thanks, S.

P.S: I experienced an increase in powerconsumption going from w7x86 to w7x64 of an estimated 1,5 - 2W.

There is another tool available for updating the 1810T's 2gb-module: SPDTool
The attached file contains the corresponding spd-informations ( Samsung M4 70T5663QZ3-CF7)

    1. Run SPDTool.exe as admin(!)
    2. File --> Read --> Module0 (p.e. for backup your configuration)
    3. File --> Open --> spd-file from attached zip-archive
    4. File --> Write --> Module0

    Hope this helps... :)

I don't know of anyone who tried it with the 3400. Sorry!

To get REALLY good battery life, I recently upgraded the motherboard of my SU2300 1410 to an 1810 mobo with the SU7600 (thank you eBay). Then I installed an SSD. With the 5600mAh battery, I now get 11.5 hours of battery life without CrystalCPUId. For that processor, Crystal makes no difference.

It's uber-fast, and the SSD makes a big difference in both speed and power consumption - if it's one with the Sandforce 1xxx series controllers (OCZ Vertex2, Corsair F series, etc.). Those SSDs use a max of 2.5W, and the idle power draw is much, much lower - unlike some other SSDs out there.

So, consider an SSD for an excellent reduction in power consumption - and a nice speed boost!

    Hi all,

I own an Acer Aspire 4810TG Timeline with a cpu Intel SU3500 built-in, and I am just curious whether it is possible to overclock this cpu, and if yes, how to overclock it?
