I was lucky enough to share the same fanspeedport=55 (dec. 85) in EC as 1080tray on my Aspire 8942G. Also Extensa 5235/5635 or Aspire 1410 are using it. This fanspeedport (BiosControlByte) would be the first to find out on your Timeline 8371. Is anyone of the manual speeds in 1080tray (stop, very slow, slow, medium...) canging any fan speed?
If not you coud change the "fanspdac" in registry to 0x01, 0x02, 0x03, 0x04, 0x05, 0x00, 0x00 and try again (AC should be plugged in and 1080tray to be restarted).
-> HKLM/software/inteks/1080tray
If again nothin's happening they are speaking about fanspeedport=B0 for an Aspire 5530g to be set in registry...
-
I can manually try to find right port just by trying, 256 options. By any chance does anyone know about some app, that can do it for me automatically?
Is it possible that 8371 uses completely different fan control scheme or is it same for all acer notebooks and you just have to find right port?
Edit - RW Everything shows some port (66 and 62) when you select EC, but neither works for me -
It is not that easy cause you don't know the fanspeedport and even if you knew it you don't know the right values to set to change the fanspeed.
But there might be a chance.
First make sure there's not any fanspeed-app running.
(After you have selected " EC" in RW-Everything) the fanspeedport normally shows 00 after a cold boot of the NB and CPU has nothing to do (idle). Then save this idle state and select "compare" choosing the just saved file.
Then load a CPU stressing app to heat up CPU. Watch RW-Everything. If you wait long enough exactly at the moment the fan getting faster you should notice a byte in RW-Everything turning into red, maybe without changing its value.
Double click to that byte and keep the value standing there in mind and close this small window by cancel.
Then close the CPU stressing app and wait again. After the fan has been spinning down for a while the byte should swich off the red colour. Notice that a few other bytes around here may also turn on/off red but not really in conjunction with fanspeed.
Now double click the *right* byte again and enter the value you kept in mind. Klick "done".
If the fan is spinning up a bit you have the fanspeedport + a first speed value.
p.s. keep an eye on 55. On most Acer's its 55.. -
any adjustment that can be made to report accurate cpu temp on 1410. this tool, since I started using it 3-4 revisions ago, shows 10 degrees Celsius higher than cpu actually is, at all times. I tried smartfan but can't get it to work w/ 1410.
i mainly use this tool to keep the fan off when temps don't necessitate airflow, which is most of the time. -
I have been using 1810tray for my 1410 for a while now and really enjoy the benefit of it. Thanks for hte hard work. I recenly bought a Lenovo S10-3T and was wondering how do I make it work for it since the S10-3T fan almost constantly running. TIA

so finally I got some time to play with my TravelMate 8371 and found out, that port which at least somehow interacts with fan control is 0xEC. Only problem is, that it probably works bit different than fan control in 1810. It always has value of 0xD0 regardless of temperature or fanspeed. But if I write anything, fan just stops. Doesnt matter what I put in, fan stops. This would be nice, but it seems to me that it works just before temp is rising again over 37-38 degrees. Then it spin up again and unfortunately even slowest rotations is quite loud. I can override it again to stop, but internal control spin fan again in no time. So if I keep my book at temperatures around 36-37 (which is I think internal threshold for fan spin up), I can override fan to stop, but for any higher temperatures its pointless... internal temperature system just spins up again. Is there any control over this behavior so I could disable native fan control and override it completely with 1810tray?
To summ my findings out
- tried what hurz suggested, found out abot 6-7 bytes changing, but not according to fanspeed (trpplechecked).
-found out port EC stopping fan if I write any value in it (it changes back to D0 and stops fan)
-found out that there is some internal mechanism controlling fan, overriding my stop directive in matter of max one second (but I can stop fan completely by fast writing numbers to EC port)
-correct settings to 1810tray at least spin down fan more often when it reaches temps around 35-36 degrees. Internal mechanism is quite lazy to turn fan off again when it was running for some time (prolly some internal threshold). -
Aspire 8942G and Extensa 5235/5635 had the problem that all changes made to fanspeedport=55 did not change fanspeed continuously cause bios is controlling this byte and setting speed back after 2sec if it doesn't fit to bios' coretemp@fanspeed definitions.
Maybe this does not happen on a 1810t/tz or on your TravelMate, dunno.
But on Aspire 8942G and Extensa 5235/5635 beneath the fanspeedport (I call it BiosControlByte=55) exsists another, call it FanControlByte=5E. So if I set a special value on BiosControlByte it is possible to disable bios control (and back to enable). While bios disabeled it is possible to set fanspeed via FanControlByte=5E from "close to stop" to a max speed, less/more than even bios can do!
Maybe this could also be interesting for 1810tray? The prob there would be - they seem to have completely other speed values..?
Sorry, to explain all that exactly in english is too hard at the momentbut if you're speaking German read this other monster-thread may be down from here.
Good Luck! -
Tried to play a little bit with ACFanControl, but no luck. 0x55 and 0x5e ports wont do anything. Tried even to find temperature readings, which is supposed to be in one EC port. No luck again, no number reacts according to temperature rising up and falling down. Whole TravelMate 8371 fan control seems to be completely different, but may be I'm just blind
-
And finaly I got working solution, as usually its really primitive. On this russian forum I found some results form different bioses and fanspeeds, its just bug of latest one 1.27 where you get fan running at lower temperatures. I downgraded to older 1.18 and fan wont spin before 42 degrees
-
Nope, you're not blind
The differences of Bios'es can be massive on Acers. IBM NB's i.e. are much more unified.
Congrats you finally found a solution! -
updated to version .48
-some bugfixes on winxp
- hotkeys for wifi powersaving & backlight
- hotkeys for profiles
-changing wifipowersaving setting dosent disconnect wifi anymore
-"add device/service" dialog now supports sorting
-new loading anim if AC is connect. it show now the current akku state too -
I'm still ah, using *cough*v22*cough*...... but it looks like it's high time to "upgrade"
-
hehe, yeah stil updates.. also had v22

PS: Are you German? -
Edit: just thinking of searching with word "registry" in this thread, found that it seems to live in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Inteks in the registry. i'm going to try to export that complete branch, and import in the other install.. hope the devices wont change a lot...
Thanks for the awesome application. I tried to search for an answer, but didn't find it.
So, where the profiles/settings are saved, and how to import/export them? I have made nice settings for my self, and i have a dual boot environment [7/7], and i would like to copy my profiles to the other install.
How to get the settings, are they in a xml-file, registry or where? would it be easy or hard to implement a profile/setting import export function to the tool, or am I missing it, is it already there?
Any info regarding of importing/exporting windows 7 power profiles would be also nice.
Thanks! -
-
2 bugs in .48
1) I have 2 rules: one for startup and another for AC, well when AC is plugged it doesn't apply the profile
2) since I've installed this version when the laptop has wifi enabled it doesn't connect automatically to the favourite hotspot anymore, it's only set as available -
2) 1810tray has nothing to do with connecting to a hotspot. the only option is to enable/disable the device and to set a IP per profile. i doubt it is a bug in 1810tray.
pls check again and maybe compare to the old version of 1810tray. -
The first problem is not as much annoying as the second one. The second one indeed needs to be fixed.
I've several profiles, max battery and max power, ip fixed and autodns for each profile. I think that the network adapter wifi is not properly set to the selected ip or autodns... I've also tried to disable autostart: well no problem at all to auto connect to my hotspot, but 30 sec later when started 1810tray it disconnected from the hotspot and set it just available (in this case every time I have to connect manually to it). -
BTW: No bugs showed up here so far.
Cheers,
killacat

wonder if OP can do 1810tray for ubuntu
-
@Inteks Thank you for putting so much work in this great tool. It seems to work fine here and I wouldn't know what to do without it... the fan noise was really driving me crazy
Still I've got a question. Core temp showed me that my VIP is around 0.9000 to 1.0000 V, when I try to use the undervolting function and set it to 0.8875 the VIP in coretemp still reads 0.9000 to 1.0000 (I've got a 1810tz). So either something doesn't work or I haven't understood how to read out the cpu voltage correctly
Could someone help please ???
Thanks Whity
Edit: running version .48 on windows 7 x64 -
1810tray has a 200ms timer that set the vid to the value you selected. if you select i.e. the balanced powersheme the OS set the VID to 1.0000 on high cpu usage and 1810tray set it back to 0.9000 on the next timerevent.
so you may see 1.0000 in coretemp but not as long as without 1810tray.
you can use rmclock to monitor the VID with and without 1810tray undervolting function -
.... What is the lowest supported VID for the 1810tz?

Does anyone know a correct value for undervolting supported by the u4100?
Must admit I ve never tried undervolting before, so maybe there is something I dont see???
Thanks for help!

In case you have any other power management tools running, try to disable them. -
so the lowest value you can select is 1.0125....
-
if .45 work keeps that.
maybe it helps when you delete the 1810tray settings in registry?
1810tray only set ip dns and gateway via netsh.exe over command line. if it not works for you maybe something with your settings is wrong -
I got a problem here with v48:
Deactivating the key-bindings doesn't work. In particular the CTRL + SHIFT + LEFT/RIGHT is annoying. Because it overrides the default functionality of selecting text word by word... -
@inteks
you have the undervolt option in 1810tray. I'm running rmclock concurrently undervolting the cpu and running max 1400/1400 (7x). Are you planning to add multiplier settings in, or what do you advice? -
Wow, cool utility, it even works with the Packard Bell Dot M/U (which is basically an Acer TimeLine 1810TZ without a Bluetooth and without an UMTS opiton, the rest of the specs are the same
).

Hi together!
I like this tool very much (thanks inteks!), but Windows 7 like it better - so much, that it only allows the admin to start 1810tray... Is there any solution for that or it's my fault?
Thanks in advance for replies! -
-
Hi!
I can't believe, all 1810tray-users are always logged-in as admins!? -
(with UAC activ,too)
-
Hi inteks!
Maybe the problem is connected with the DEP ( http://windows.microsoft.com/de-DE/windows-vista/Change-Data-Execution-Prevention-settings)?
Or 1810tray has little problems with 64bit Win7 Ultimate?
I read you are german? Here is the complete message:

Question from the new TimelineX owners. Has the tray program been adapted for the Timeline 3810T? If so, will it work on the 3820T?
I love the program on my 1410T and would consider it a real plus on the 3820T. Has the author permitted others to modify the program to work on other Acers? Has it worked?
Thanks.

Hi!
Gerne auch auf Deutsch, aber so hat der Rest wenig davon...
Ich deinstalliere das Programm mal, installiere neu und melde mich dann wieder...
Danke bis hierhin, vielleicht ergibt sich ja etwas. -
The 1810tray.jpg existst.
Is the a special folder to install 1810tray ?
The former versions run without any problems.
... und das jetzt ausgerechnet, wo der Sommer vor der Tür steht :-/

WORK!: deleting old registry settings was the solution..... -
Hi
Sorry for my bad english. My last written english words was after years ago
The program runs fine and without problems so far. My version: .48. I have a 1810T (SU7300).
My problem is in the "settings" to disable the shortcuts (ctrl+shift+...) for the brightness, wifi, options and the profiles. I need the ctrl+shift+left/right in office or firefox to mark words or texts. But i can't disable/uncheck the box. If i try this, after closing the menu and reopen it, the box is allways checked. The same as Admin. Also closing the program and restart never assume the modification.
I have also tried to clear the registry and reinstalled the program (again with Adminrights).
Is there a way to disable this option?
The program is cool(ing), the support here ist great. Thanks!

Hey
I'd love to try this on my acer 5930, to insrease fan speeds at all temps, so that idle and load temps fall.
I'm really confused by this program, so can someone tell me how I can use it to set speeds at certain temps
eg. 20% above 30, 30% above 40, etc.
Many thanks -
I have a 1810tz with Win XP and I get the following .net-error when starting the option windows:
The type initializer for '_1810Tray.NetSh' threw an exception.

The OS . . .
install win 7 -
Oh man... I just love Win XP
Another question, indirectly concerning 1810tray: Is it true that with Win 7, you get longer battery life?
For example: Windows 7 Improves Laptop Battery Life by 11% : TreeHugger
In the mentioned article, the comparison was made between 7 and Vista. But how about 7 and XP? With RMClock, I have a battery consumption rate between 7800-10000 with W-LAN on; average brightness and web surfing. My battery is new and has a fully charged capacity of 59400mWh; predicted time is a little over 6 hours, sometimes dropping below 4 hrs if the consumption is higher for a sec. -
Hi,
Youtube or other flash sites are battery suckers. For battery life, it's a good idea to disable Flash (unless you need it).
On my own 1810TZ (see signature), the average power consumtion in the "WLAN surfing" scenario is 7 W, resulting in an estimated battery life time of 8-9 hours.
I posted some figures in this thread, starting from here:

thx for your help! I think I'm going to install Win 7 soon...

Hi, maybe someone already has done this, but:
I suppose many of you have done a lot of testing and come up with different power schemes / profiles for this great little program. Could any of you please post your schemes here? I am a non-geek and it's a lot of work for me to start building up schemes from scratch. So, you know, from "extreme power saver" to "full performance" and some alternatives in between would be great.
I've got a 1810TZ with win7 64bit.
