Awesome! v11 now works in XP.

I noticed the temperature reported (55C) is 10C higher than that reported by Speedfan (45C). Which temp sounds correct for the 1810tz?

Is there a manual for this app? Im wondering what the bar is below the temperature number. It varies from green yellow to red, and moves from left to right.

    Thanks a lot.

Okay, the crash/hang happened again. It happened after I recharged the battery to 100% and then I pulled the charger plug. The icon is still there in the systray and when hovering over it, it says: charging (100%), fanspeed: stop. Clicking it (left or right) does nothing. The bar is red, then after a few seconds becomes green. If I put back the plug, the bar becomes a bar that charges from black to blue. But clicking it does not give a response.

The temp-monitor still works, it shows the correct temperature in the systray icon and the fan speed is still adjusted. But it keeps saying charging 100%, fanspeed stop. And clicking the icon still does nothing.

Edit: tried to reproduce it, now it's fine. So I can't consistently reproduce it (yet). Sorry.

Reproduced it again. What I need to do: run without ac untill it reaches like 70% or something. Then put ac in untill it is 100%. Untill then, everything works fine.

The icon says: charging (100%) and there's a black/blue bar showing that it's 'charging'.

Now, when I pull the ac-plug, the bar switches to red, but it still says charging (100%). After a few seconds, the bar changes to green and still says charging (100%). Clicking the icon now does nothing. Also, it doesn't update the fan speed info. It does still alter the actual fan speed though.

I now have to kill 1810tray from the task manager and restart it. Then it works fine again.

Tried it again: this time it kept working fine. Grrrr. I have a feeling it might be a conflict with coretemp. Gonna check...

    Hello,
    this program is fine, but:
    i have a AS1410 with the SU2300 and Windows 7 64bit.

I copy the alias of the 1810tray to the Autostart-folder, but it does not start automaticaly.
    Why?

PS: i am a new user of Win7

Probably because of user account control. Turn it off to test if that's it.

If you want UAC on, but still want to autostart 1810tray, you need to add it in task scheduler to start on logon.

    Inteks,

I just wanted to thank you for this excellent tool.

I have an acer 1810TZ, and so far your program is working without a hitch.

Before using it, the only drawback to this fine machine was that the fan turned on/off & reved up/down constantly when it was plugged in ... a real nuisance.

Now, plugged in or on battery it is extremely quiet.

Thanks again for putting this piece of software out in the public so that all of us could benefit from it.

    David

I followed the tutorial to the letter, except I didn't specify a command line argument, since none are necessary, and I obviously pointed the action to the 1810 tray .exe instead of event viewer as shown in the tutorial.

I think it would be easier for you to post exactly what you did to see if you missed any steps.

    Hi

I was able to make 1810tray auto start with windows 7 HP 32 by doing the following:

    - right click on 1810Tray.exe >properties >compatibility >select "run as administrator"
    - Drag to startup folder at windows start menu

Follow up on my reports earlier: the hang of the application only happens when the app is automatically run from task scheduler. For some reason that causes it to hang when I remove the ac-chord.... weird.

Make sure in the Task Manager under the Conditions tab that you uncheck the "Start the task only if the computer is on AC power" for this task.

Yes, I was assuming it has something to do with this setting, but the weird thing is it's already unchecked.

Technically, even when it's checked, it shouldn't be a problem, since it's only about when to start the task, not when to make it stop/hang or anything.

It has a sub-checkbox of killing the task when going to battery-power, but it's greyed out as long as the other checkbox is enabled.

Anyway, I'll try and mess around with these settings, it almost must have something to do with it.

That is clear! But the Autostart does not work.

That ist, what i made. I tested many configurations. Start with singel User, All User... and many others.
    Nothing works on Win7-64.

So yeah, it seems task scheduler is quiete buggy. The checkbox of killing the task when switching to battery is greyed out when not having the 'only start when plugged in' checkbox ticked. However, checkbox (even though being greyed out) is still checked. And apparently, it then still does its thing. It tries to stop the application and that causes it to hang. So to fix: first enable the checkbox to only start the application when plugged in. Then disable the checkbox to kill the app when switching to battery. Then disable the checkbox to only start the app when plugged in again.

    Good job Microsoft ;)

Anyway: the application now works fine :-D Tnx again.

I tested this on my new, fresh installed 1810T with SU3500 and Win Vista HP 32bit. The program is working fine (= no errors) BUT the "very high" functions seems to stop the fan... (or it might be running slower than the slow function)

This made my cpu temp go over 75°C this morning, because I didn't notice it that it wasn't working anymore.

Are there other people where the "very high" function really corresponds to a very high fan speed?

edit: another thing I noticed: from time to time, the temperature (f.e. around 45°), changes into 16° or 17° for just a second, and then changes back. What is this 16 or 17?

    Oh-Oh! This is not fine!
I don't want, that this program kills my computer!

I think, the better solution would be, that Acer is overthinking their fan-controll-program.

With 75°C, it's not really a problem for the cpu, right? (I don't really know about this sort of cpu, but my T5600 has been over 80°C many times and it's still working fine. The thermal paste has hardened though... )

My Aspire One is configured to not start the fan below 70°C at all lol
    75°C won't do harm.

It would be good to post which BIOS you are using. The hex values might be different depending on BIOS version. I testet the hex codes on v3118.

You people should consider that there are other components in a laptop which needs cooling too not only the CPU, which temperature is measured here likely core temperature, so deactivating the fan or putting it on slow all the time because only looking on one temperature measure could harm the laptop.

To the author of the tool: Why not make an autostart or service feature? Normal autostart is a problem because of admin privileges and when setting your tool to service atm is a bad way too because the tool is running but you dont see the mini icon in the taskbar then.

it seems the problem is the hex code for veryhigh on AC

in the moment its "0x1C" in next release i set this HEX to "0x00" (native)

maf9k, you can add it to task scheduler, to start at logon with admin priviledges. Then it autostarts just fine, WITH icon in the systray.

if any component is on critical temp then the cpu temp is much higher then 52°C !!

they share the same cooling device so if one component gets hotter all component gets hotter.

I assume that if the cpu doesn't get hot, the other components won't be hot either. And if it turns out to be the case anyway, I have 3 years warranty, so if the laptop gets damaged, I can send it back for a replacement.

but you want it if auto start of course not only user mode, pre log in screen, this way the icon is not there when you log in but the process is running.

btw my 1810tz always stays at 65-68°c when i surf and watch dvbt so you have to use the fan on 100% anyway all the time.

and i stay this way, you cant say you go just with the cpu temperature for switching the fan on/off. there is a reason why acer choose a default for the fan not going completely off. not all components which need cooling are connected to the heat pipe. and if you say like cpu is 60°c there could be hot spots somewhere else.

Strange my cpu barely get's hotter then 56 degrees celsius with 1810tray enabled. So looks like your tz lifecycle will be shorter than mine. Oh well, the default settings are always on the safe site. Even Intel plays the game with different type of cpu's. One's with a longer lifetime than others.

Has anyone actually taken laptop apart to replace the stock thermal paste? I've done it (replaced it with AS5) and temps dropped a few degrees + it cools down faster. Not much of an improvement but I think it is worth it.

I didn't do it yet, but good to know that it helps. I'm planning an extensive modification of the fan assembly. I will decouple the fan from the rest of the assembly and connect it to the base of the case. That should get rid of the vibrations.

Using 3115. From BIOS 3115 the VT is enabled and more important, the CPU temperature
If you launch hwinfo now, your cpu temps won't move a bit!
