    yepp,
    1. 1810tray works only well if UAC is disabled.
    2. custom resolution trick isnt needed anymore since the new inteldriver support customresolution. only the resolutions you added in intel controlpanel are selectable in 1810tray.
    please use with "," between like 1024x768, . . .

3.maybe your 1810t model use an other wifi card. plz post your device ID from the wifi card.

checkboxes for profiles are not that easy because the profiles are not really switches. you can combine them.
    ie.
first select a profile that disable lan, enable wifi and set an ip from the wifi card
then select a profile that sets highperfomance mode and disable webcam.

will say that this second profile dont disable wifi

so i cant set a checkbox on a specific profile. its more like batches/makros

    have fun

    Inteks,

fantastic little pgm, reps all around

A few Qs, if I may; when I first started it, the fan control was on "auto", which I assume is you pgm adjusting the fan dynamically using the temp constant provided by the user, right?

In any case, it brought my fan down to "very slow" during idle. I then exited the program and terminate a few other programs in order to do a "clean" run of PCMark05. During the entire run, I realized the fan was still on "very slow"... :-/

Is this the way the program is supposed to work? Is there any chance of you being able to "restore" all settings prior to pgm startup after the user exits the pgm?

2nd Q - I assume that "native" is the fan's speed at full power? At least it sounds like that... .

Next Q, would there be the possibility of allowing the user to determine if they want 1810tray to control the fan? I know the question may sound odd, but someone may want to use 1810Tray to control everything but the fan... . 18kfangui is a similar pgm to yours created for Dell Inspirion Notebooks and offers such an option.

And last but not least, I assume that the fan used by the 1810T does not report rpm...?

Many thx once again for the effort and for sharing your hard work with the community

    Thx!

A few other "observations", Inteks; if I select "Native2, it shows as "native" once in the taskbar icon "bubble" but there after as "auto"... checking the main popup menu and it lists "native"... :-/

Also, while turnin Areo on/off works great, theere is no control over wifi. Your pgm lists it under devices as "unchkecked" but it's still active.

Just to be compeltely clear, I have a 3G edition and seeing as the physical toggle switch is different from the std. 1810T(Z), I assume it's a bit differently addressed by the system. Is there anything I can offer you in the way of system / device info?

Last but not least, when I use the physical switch to turn off WLAN, the device manager shows no difference (device is "active"). Looking at the list of available APs however shows that WiFi has been "logically" disabled. I'm not sure how much of an energy savings this is, compared to say, physically switching off Bluetooth which is completely removed form the device manager... :-/

What does your pgm do, a logical "block" of Wifi, or does it physically disable it?

    Thx :)

1810t use devcon.exe so its like devicemanager enable/disable
and in next version you can customize the devices (ie. diff. wifi cards)

Installing Ver 17 over Ver 14 doesn't work. The installer says the version is already installed.

OK, OK I can remove Via Add/Remove programs manually, but still :D

I'm running XP and found this app was doing some bad things to my hardware.

In short, it interferes with the battery charging circuitry. If I left 1810tray running and unplugged from A/C, sometimes the battery level indicator would freeze. And if I left the A/C plugged in overnight and ran on battery the next morning I would find the battery level at 16%. Sometimes Windows would think the notebook was on A/C when it was unplugged. Sometimes Windows didn't even see the battery.

When any of the above issues came up the only fix was to remove and reinsert the battery. Simply powering the notebook off and then back on wouldn't fix the problem. If I stopped running 1810tray none of these issues arose.

Anyone else experiencing this in XP? I saw this in update 11 and 17.

there is no code inside that can do such things. the only hardware related code is write value to AcerEC to control the fan and read value to show temperatur of CPU

what hardware are you using ??? 1810tray is only for Acer 1810 !
because the ports 1810tray use are model specific

1810tz. Tried bios 3303 and 3120 but it didn't make any diference.

Here's something in the event log that might you might find helpful:
\Device\ACPIEC: The embedded controller (EC) hardware returned data when none was requested. This may indicate that the BIOS is incorectly trying to access the EC without syncronizing with the OS. The data is being ignored.

Anyway I'm now running SmartFan which doesn't seem to have the battery charging related issues.

only 1810? i've installed and run it on 1410... is it not doing what its supposed to do? it seems to let me change power modes and fan speeds?

if i were to request one "feature" at this point, it would be this: when its running in my taskbar (?) i click the icon to pull up a menu that lets me change some settings, i would love if that menu would drop when my mouse moved off of it, as it is now, the menu will stay up for me until i click the icon at the bottom again.

other than that, it seems to do what i need it to on my 1410

ok ok 1410 should work too. but i can only test on 1810T !!!! i cant give you a guarantee that that it works on other rigs. you have to try it out for yourself.

btw the prob with the menu i have too. and i dont like it. i think its a .net framework problem. :( if i found a solution i put it in . . .

hey i'm using this great tool with my 2nd 1810tz now, on the first system everything worked with update 10. on the second system (not as old as the 1st one) it doesn't show any temperature (almost always on 0 degrees, just a few times it showed the correct values) also i think the fan contral doesn't work at all, "very high" sounds similar to "stop" i don't hear anything but a little "biiep", same when 1810tray isn't running. as told on the first "very high" sounded like very high ;)
btw: system is getting really hot on the back when used full for 20 min. any suggestions? (using ver. 17 with windows 7 64 bit)Greg

    that sounds really bad . . .
it seems that the newer ones maybe use a diffent port for AcerEC :(

if i have the time i make the Hex values for fanspeed and Port for Temp reading and Fanspeed configurable.

but then its on you to find the right values. i dont have a 1810tz to test it.

i'm confused what an option under the "settings" does...
"hold CPU temp around __" i think it was defaulted to 52, but it doesnt "hold" it around 52...

is that what it is supposed to do? i havent tried changing the value, i dont want to break anything

is that only on "auto" and/or "native" was 52 chosen for a particular reason, and should it be left at 52? what are other values people here are using and have no problems with?

auto = 1810tray decide the fanspeed.
    usersetting + 8 degree = veryhigh
    usersetting - 4 degree = stop

native = bios decide the fanspeed

    mine is set to 56°

hey here some new facts towards my problem: when battery was remained and system starts 1810tray gets the right temperature, shows it and controls the fan with the knowledge of this temperature, but the temperature never changes so that the control does not work correct. it just gets the right datas when windows is starting one single time. so it shows 0 degrees after coming back from standby, so that the fan control of 1810tray does not work at all. but with this knowledge the hex values have to be the right ones or not? why does the programm gets the temperature only when system starts? please help me :)

Hi, I also have an 1810TZ and mine has a manufacturing date of "2009/10/30". 1810Tray has no problems reading the temp and it changes according to system load and/or fan speeds.

In "native" mode, my fan will speed up when 1810Tray indicates 56C. This is the only "constant" I can provide, per say... .

What manufacturing date do you have on your 2nd unit (check the badge on the bottom of the unit)? If you still have the first one, what date does that one have?

30th Oct is still relatively new & I can't imagine they reprogrammed the firmware too much in the past month... :-/

Last but not least, I'm still using the "supplied" BIOS, 3204. AFAIK, there's a 3303 (released on 19 Nov.).

More a windows 7 problem, than tray related, but maybe someone can help anyway...

    cf. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=441920

Following problem on Win7 HP 64 Bit: Several system changes just get lost when I restart the system.
Examples: Allowing a program to turn itself on on start-up (e.g. the 1810tray). After restart, i am asked again by the system, if i really want that. - Changes in the Synaptics Driver 14.0.3C (faster mouse movement), after restart as slow as before.

Am I doing something wrong? I am confused...

hey, ok i thougt it is a newer one because i had to wait till 26.11... the manufacturing date is the 29.8.09 and the bios version is 3115. thanks for the help. should i just update the bios to a newer version?

edit: ok newer bios didn't helped too. think i will bring it back to the store...
    2. edit: now it works for any reason, but have still the problem, that temeprature which is used does not raise. any change will just be shown, when temperature falls. so i have still the 0 degree problem when started.

Inteks, thx for the additional flexibility

Unfortunately, I'm NOT able to get anywhere with "device control"... I added my devices but I can't control any of them via 1810T...

I added the devices, I created profiles, I then "loaded" a profile that should have disabled all devices in question, but nothing happened. Then I tried "selecting" a profile from the pop-up (right-click fn) but that did nothing; Is this an interactive or just a notification area? Finally, I looked at the devices pop-up list (right-click\devices) and pretty much everything had a blue checkmark box next to it (exceptions: Wifi & Acc-sensor).

    So I'm at a loss... :-/

One last question, If I may; when slecting the device to control (enable/disable), bot BT and WWAN have numerous instances in the Device-manager list. For example, BT lists no less than four:

    Network Adapters:
    BT (PAN)
    BT (RFCOMM)
    Bluetooth Devices:
    BT Module
    BT Listing (enumeration?)

So the logical question is which one to "disable"? The WWAN card is even worse, having around four "COM Ports" on top of network & modem entries...

Final question; Most devices have more than one HW ID. Are all valid for 1810Tray? Should it always be the first one?

I'm sorry for the 20 questions but I do see all the potential this little gem of a tool could bring and I hate to just "pass it up" ;)

p.s. a very minor cosmetic detail; if one has too many devices, the options->profiles tab's device list "window" has no scroll bar functionality...

    2 tips

    1. in devicemanager switch the view to "device .. connection" or so (i am on a german windows on mine its called "ansicht -> geräte nach verbindung"
then you see all BT related devices below the main BT device

    2. use devcon on commandline to try out the right id.

Well ok, seems that I can't find the devcon command...

Running it via Windows 7 ("Ausführen") returns a "not found" error... I can run regedit, etc. but no devcon.

I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with the command so please excuse my lack of knowhow here... :-/

its a dos programm (it came from microsoft) and you find it i.e. in the 1810tray folder

    windows -> run ("Ausführen") -> cmd -> cd to 1810tray folder -> devcon ....... usw ;)

Well I ran it with an easier target device (my wifi device) and after getting the Windows "are you sure you want to run...", A POP-UP dos Window appeared for like 0.05s and then... nada, nichts, rein, nothing... :(

I tried several instances of the HW ID like
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0083&SUBSYS_13058086&REV_00
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0083&CC_0280
    etc.

Na ja, vieleicht I'm too silly for this... :p

if you cant open a commandline then something is wrong

is your UAC disabled ? have you scanned for a virus ???

sometimes an infected system close commandlines and/or explorer windows themself

Sorry, I didn't express myself appropriately - I can run a DOS box (cmd) and I can run devcon.

But when I execute devcon, a SECONDARY DOS box pops up (but it's gone before I can even see what msg it has)... . This implies that devcon ran and even accepted the input parms (disable "usb\...) but it (or the OS) returns an error in a secondary dos box and then terminates properly, leaving me at the DOS prompt...

p.s. thx for the teaser screen (above) - its looking great

Like the teaser screen! Of course the "next" version of software always has all the features I can ever dream of. That has been happening for more years than I care to admit.

Seriously, thanks for the great tool!

    awesome, more options.
thanks for the work you are doing, did you happen to get a chance to address the issue with the menu "sticking" after its been opened, until you "close" it by clicking the icon again?

im liking that option to switch to native fan control at a user determined temp

jepp . . . is fixed. and the temp is now reading directly from CPU like coretemp it did. so no jumping temps or 0 temps anymore ;)

i think i build a new release today.
