If you don't mind me asking, how are you overclocking the CPU? I have the exact same config as you, and have no idea which clock generator to choose in SetFSB. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

I feel your pain :p Asus service really sucks even in Singapore, which is why I discourage anyone buying a laptop from buying Asus because their service is so bad

Hi there every1, haven't been following this thread for a while now but I see there is a refresh line of timeline,. Was wondering what you guys think about 3820tg substitute? From what I see it doesn't replace it really in terms of power (lower clocked CPU?) not sure about gpu either. Design seems a bit, less professional to me, but thats just personal opinion. So any1 getting it ? Am I wrong in terms of specs on it?

I would guess that most of us that have 3820TGs are keeping them. How nice to be content with my laptop and not be tempted to sell it for a new model.

I use the software SetFSB (Unlocked, ASUS G73JH) and MSI Afterburner. To be able to disable HT and Turboboost you'll need to flash your BIOS with a modified version that has extended options enabled. There are links in the beginning of this thread to these things.

This OC were only run for a very short period of time, perhaps 5mins. The temps are to high for my liking and I will replace the thermal paste and pehaps lap the heatsinks before running any benches at those frequencies. My experience is that notebooks benefits greatly from these modifications. It's not impossible to reduce temps with some 5-10C.

Why ACPI call and not vgaswitcheroo? This in /etc/rc.local does the job:
    Code:
    chown "username" /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
    echo OFF > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
Actually now that I think about it, I only get about 4 hours with WiFI on. Tricks?

No real reason other than I came across acpi_call before finding a decent guide to switcheroo. I'll try switcheroo next. I'll also let you know if my battery life drops with switcheroo versus acpi_call.

I know for sale items are discouraged on these threads but because this is more of a niche market, i consider posting this more a favour than anything.

I Pulled my French/English 3820TG keyboard and I will sell it to anyone interested, basically for shipping and a few bucks for my trouble.

I am just hoping someone might find some good use out of this, perhaps French students living in America?? :)

    PM me if interested.

Once again: I repeat, this is not a for sale ad, I'm offering this as a favour to a fellow user in need.

Does anyone know if the 3810T keyboard works on 3820TG?
The 3810T keyboard seems way cheaper than the 3820T keyboard.
    They're like $10-15 difference....

Anyone purchased a replacement battery from ebay?

    9-Cell
    12-Cell

Wondering how they perform compared to the stock 6-cell since they are listed as "Genuine" but all ship from HK.

The 12cell seems to be "faulty" because it has only a capacity of "8400mah".

Any review on your 3820tg keyboard? looking to pick one up in the upcoming weeks. Wondering about quality, and where abouts you picked it up (assuming ebay, which store?).

Works, just some Fn keys are different.

    No, really? Lol. :D

I just bought a 9 cell battery from Notebook Solutions (they are in Canada), it is 9000MAH, the one that Acer Insider posted about many pages back. Hopefully will arrive next week. I returned the 9 cell I bought from Acer depot in Temple, TX, as it was 8400MAH. They were a real pain about the return too, insisting there is no difference between the above-referenced 9 cells, and wouldn't sell me the part I want.

    Acer original battery - AC25879 - $164.95US : Notebook Solutions, Parts, Service & Support

On a related note, I currently have the 6 cell , 6000MAH battery. While using the dedicated GPU (HD6550) and gaming, I get a hair over 1 hour when set to max performance. With AMD PowerPlay enabled, I get about 1 hour 45 mins. If I can get 2+ hours of unplugged gaming out of the 9 cell that would be nice.

Hi guys, i have a "little" problem :

    i upgraded my 3820tg 5650 450m with 8gb DD3 1066 Mhz corsair memory (CM3X4GSD1066 ) , 4x2 GB.. anyway when i play games it crashes/reboot !
    Memtest is OK !

I have never Had this problem with original memory Hynix 2x2 Gb before !

I have no crashes and all is perfect when i use 4GB of new corsair and 2 GB of original Hynix memory ( 6 GB tot) !

How can you explain this ? does corsair have some known issue with 3820tg, or 8gb is not supported ?

i even tried 1.13 bios and latest 1.19.. thank you for reply :)

Just got my 3820TG from NCIX with the 6550M.

I don't know if I should do the bios mod to get the secret menu or use the hybrid drivers. Reinstalling windows now and testing the 3D capabilities to make sure everything is running ok.

With everything stock except driver and default settings on 3dmark06 I got 7811

I played a game of nexus wars on SC2 with 8 players on 1366x768 High Textures, All High graphics and had 40-70FPS the whole game though the game didn't last long enough to get the usual 300+ guys on screen, mostly 30-50 units at once.

So far I like this laptop except for the poor contrast and viewing angles on the LCD compared to my old asus G73. Speakers are a bit quiet but alright I guess. I like the fact that on intel graphics I can use it on my lap without breaking a sweat. The air is pretty hot coming out of the vents though but better than keeping the heat inside.

This canadian keyboard is driving me mad with it's weirdass keys

Now I have to test some FPS games

Oh yea, all of this was done with the hybrid drivers.

Edit: The power supply takes a lot of force to plug in. Seems like it's going to break lol.

I bought Corsair 2x4GB, and as well had issues with them. I could not OC more than a few MHz before it locked up, which is telling me that there are some compatibility issues. My sticks has model number CMSO4GX3M1A1333C9

Has anyone found a replaceable keyboard besides the one used for backlighting the keyboard? I think the buttonns on the original keyboard offer a bit too much resistance. I'd prefer something more *caugh* mac-like *caugh*. :)

    - Aero off / classic theme
    - all windows features removed (except .NET and IE8)
    - page file off
    - never install drivers with setup.exe, but from Device Manager
    - using autoruns to turn off most of the programs at logon
    - installing no Acer app at all, except Launch Manager
    - BIOS switching with the newest Intel drivers

If you OC, that happens with almost all the time with 8 GB ram. Don't OC with 8 gigs.

the frezees and 8gb occurs even @default in bad company 2 ( vga and cpu very intensive game), they occurs in the first 5 minutes.

Now i see that i have freezees even with 4gb corsair+2gb hynix, among 15 and 20 minutes ( it happenes regurarly ).

Now i went back to original 2x2gb hynix and all ok, two hour playing bad company 2 and all is ok.

It seems there are some compatibility issue between corsair and motherboard.

Maybe i can try Kingston, what do you suggest me ?

Looks like Acer is undergoing some significant changes at the boardroom level. The Company has decided that it's overall 2% profit margain needs to change and is promising to develope higher quality computers. Acer changes business strategy from pushing volume to value, says chairman Looks like everyone wants to be Apple.

The best part is that they claim to be looking for R&D people. There are some of you from this site who they should hire. :D

u know the hybrid graphics for the 3820tg. i adjusted the saturation of the radeon card to make the colors nicer, but everytime i pull the plug n switch to intel graphics it switches back to the default saturation. ofc, when i plug it back in and switch back to radeon i once again get the adjusted color, but i want the colors to look good even on battery, is there any way?

i tried adjusting the saturation on the intel card which works, but the next time i switch to intel it 4gets the settings. well, it remembers the settings but i must go into video card settings and exit again for the settings to change. not sure if u understand what im talking abt

For setting color in Windows 7, use the built-in monitor calibration app.

    Same as above.

Look on the first page if this thread! F2 works, but you need to start pressing it frequently even before the monitor turns on.

    First page!

Send it back in warranty! It should definately not be like this.

i tried the win 7 color calibration b4, i never liked it. it doesnt adjust the saturation of ur colors anyway. I like to manually adjust teh saturation to get lusher n more vibrant colors which is equivalent to the digital vibrance feature found in nvidia cards

had a search around and couldn't find it!

    Hi,

Has anyone tried these memory with their 3820/4820/5820TG?

    2GB DDR3 PC 10600 2GB SODIMM 1333 MHz CL7 LAPTOP MEMORY on eBay.ca (item 110670577776 end time 04-May-11 01:17:33 EDT)

Apparently it's DDR3-1333 CL7 and the brand is AUM manufactured by a company in India.

    AUM - memory manufacturer? - Memory - Motherboards-Memory

I'm want to buy Kingston's HyperX DDR3-1066 CL5 (Intel X.M.P.) but no one on this forum has tried or confirmed compatibility with the 3820/4820/5820TG.

Kingston Technology Company - HyperX SO-DIMM - HyperX memory is now available for notebooks!

Are the HyperX's compatible with the TimelineX, if so which one should I get (Intel X.M.P. or non Intel X.M.P.)???
