Does anyone have the problem whereby the "Show window contents when dragging" keeps getting reset to off after a reboot on Catalyst 11.2?
-
Wait a hour, I'm just backup my system and give the latest AMD driver a test run. The Intel only driver will destroy the switch option.
Edit:
The driver has the Intel version 2125 and seems to work. -
Ok, but this version won't solve the Windows7-SP1-Problem.
-
Sorry, my mistake.

Any chance to can dig up the latest version of Acer's ePower Management? -
Since I had to reinstall Windows, I took my time to update my old driver page as I searched for new drivers and post them here for whoever needs it

Broadcom Bluetooth v6.4.0.1601 [TESTED] - Checked 28/3/2011
Note 1: An old version of the Bluetooth driver must already be installed. The official driver from Acer works fine for this purpose.
Note 2: Bluetooth must be turned on during the installation. An error might occur during install and refuses to install anything. To install the drivers manually: Do not close the Bluetooth installer. Wait for it to fail, then when it leaves you at the page with 4 progress bars and says that installation failed, leave it there.
Go to C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Local\Temp\BluetoothBTW and copy the whole folder to desktop. Next open Device Manager, right click>update driver software for all Bluetooth devices except "Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator" and navigate to the folder you copied and check "include subdirectories". Wait for the drivers to install and you are done. You can close the installer after this.

Regarding the unofficial Ati-Driver + WatermarkRemover
I'm a bit cautious when it comes to drivers.
Why is there a watermark when you install this driver?
I have a bad feeling about this WatermarkRemover: As written in readme the user.dll will be touched....
Can someone ease my bad feeling with fundamental knowledge ;-)
[Edit:] A screenshot of the Watermark would be nice. -
Don't use it. It's been shown to suck up battery life instead of improving it.
-
ePower in general or just the new version?
-
Here's a short-ish explanation. From what I understand, the ATi drivers were modified to play nice with the Intel HD Graphics drivers. In doing so, the digital signatures were modified and Windows will not recognise it as a validly signed driver and refuse to install it. The batch file forces Windows to disable the signature check, but it will cause a watermark to appear at the bottom right of the screen. Watermark Remover is purely cosmetic, if you think that the watermark looks nice then you can choose not to remove it. Watermark Remover only modifies the .dll to not show the message. That is all. It's safe, I'm using it now
-
In general.
Can't provide one now, I already removed the watermark. It says something like
"Windows 7
Test Mode (not sure if it says mode or something else)
Build 7600" -
Ah, ok thanks... that makes sense!
If somebody would sign this driver... the whole WatermarkRemover would be obsolete. (Anybody here in this forum with a signing tool?) -
Masquerading as AMD/ATi is wading into a legal grey area. Also, I think obtaining the signing tool is not easy as I think there's some money involved as well as having to explain to Microsoft why you are using AMD's drivers (breach of copyright, terms of use, reverse engineering etc)
-
Hey both of you,
have a look at the MS pages. It is allowed to create a personal certifacte for the own workstation and it is only trusted there (no money).
With this certificate everybody can signing the modded driver for himself/herself and doesn't need the watermark remover.
I will have a look at my NAS for the howto files. -
Errr wow. I didn't know that. But can it sign files that interact directly with the kernel? Any restrictions on what can be signed with the personal certificate?
-
You have to read the license.
My last understanding was, you can do all the same things as with a commercial certificate for testing with a private certificate on your own machine, but you are not allowed to publish software with the private certificate.
But as mention about read the license file!
Edit:
"Kernel-Mode Code Signing Walkthrough"
A step by step guide. I used it a few times and it works without problems. -
Okay, maybe i'll pick it up then. I've read they're worth the money - but damn they're not cheap. -_-
Also, is anybody having trouble with Scrybe? I can't get it to work on my 3820. Wondering if it's even worth the trouble. -
Acer's ePower Management is the worst thing our notebooks have ever seen. Its a really buggy and bad program, and it's impossible to uninstall it properly.
I have never had that tool installed and I get 5.5 W while eBook reading (with wireless off). 5.5 W means 11 hours on the 6 cell.
)) OK, its an extreme case, where you cannot do anything useful but still, an amazing thing.
-
So... new ticked opened.
In short i wrote them, that we need a hybrid-driver which contains a newer intel-driver.
*crossing fingers* -
My last ticket status is, that they try to repeat the crash of MSN Messenger with the faulty Intel driver in combination with the SP1.
-
Damn; you are right!!!
Just deinstalled ePower and battery-usage dropped instantly from 12W to 6W!
Thanks a lot!

I glance thru the document, but cant find section that describe about your method. There are 2 example:
1. How to Install and Load a Test-Signed Driver Package
- Require you to set bcdedit.exe /set TESTSIGNING ON
- Not good for some people cause it mean, the OS will load ANY driver so as long as it is signed (even by self-signed or unknown CA)
2. How to Install and Load a Release-Signed Driver Package
- Require Code Signing certificate obtained by valid CA (mean $)
Sorry if I got it wrong, I only spend a few minutes looking at the long documents. Appreciate your help to correct me. -
Can you give me a link to the driver?
I will have a look at it, but I have first to do some other stuff. -
If I'm not wrong you mean this link:

Thanks,
you are right. -
I posted back that the Intel X25-M 120GB was on sale for $189.99, but wondering if it's worth the extra $20 for a vertex 2 120GB on sale for $209.99.
I've hear dthe vertex 2 is one of the top SSD's for the buck, any takers? -
If you can get an old one (not 25 nm). The new ones are downclocked because of the cheaper 25nm chips.
-
From where?
I actually paid that for a used one just 2 months ago... It was the best investment I've made so far for my 3820. I think that's a great price! Also, i've heard that Crucial are king of SSDs but Intel, Corsair and OCZ are your high/med range... All great SSDs. -
can someone tell me, what are the advantages other than load times of a ssd ?
silence ? no heat ? better battery life ? just how much better ? 30 mins ? 1 hour ? the lappy totally silent in idle ?
thanks -
Hmm, maybe i'll get that model then. Debating whether to spend the extra $20 to get the Vertex 2. ahh, decisions, decisions.
-
So with ePower Management not installed is there any other use for the P button on the TimelineX's?
Is the P button programmable through 3rd party software? -
Hey,
I have signed the driver with a private certificate, it has not been tested.
- Unrar the file and execute cert_for_ATI_Switch_driver\Cert.bat with Adminrights. (Certificate import)
- Install the driver inside the archiv (only this one will work!)
- Give a feedback in this thread

For those of you looking at SSDs it might be worth waiting for this Intel rolls out third-generation SSD 320 Series drives -- Engadget
-
More reason to get the second gen, with the price drops and the fact that 3820tg doesn't have SATA 6Gb/s to handle the throughput.
*Edit* Actually, looking more into the intel 3rd gen, looks like it's still designed for 3Gb/s and meant to be cheaper than the 2nd gen
-
time to mod a sata III controller into the 3820tg
-
I've got the OCZ Vertex 2 SSD and I'm very happy with it. Very fast. Reboots take like less than 30 seconds from shutdown to restart. Login from the windows screen is nearly instant. Games run much faster too because theHD doesn't act as a bottleneck when reading graphics textures and such. Love it.
-
Has anyone successfully put in an aftermarket LCD in their 3820TG? I ask because lot's of new 13.3" laptops are coming out with nice screens like the Samsung 9 series and the Sony SA has a 13" 1600x900 LCD.
-
I've got a 1600x900 and I need to look into disassembling the BIOS (work's been busy til lately) to see if the BIOS in my 4820TG supports it or not. If I can get it to work then I'll need to order a new connector cable cause the on in my 4820TG is too short to reach, but otherwise connects fine. I'll try to get it tested out this week and report back. Hopefully at least some of the work on the 4820TG will apply to the 3820TG. I know they run different BIOSes tho, so who knows how much will be applicable.
-
My own opinion:
Just take the cheaper one. The most performance-increase a SSD will give you in comparison to a HDD is, that data can be read parallel (high random rates).
The difference between SSDs is not noticeable in daily use.
[Edit:]
Thanks, I'll try it when i've time.
Can't promisse if I have time today.
PS: Rep+1

[Edit2:]
Just got an answer for my second ticket:
[/Edit2] -
if you only need a few more pixel/room
you can do it via rdp ....
1. apply the concurrent remote desktop patch (check "enable multiple logon per user") -> Windows 7 RTM concurrent remote desktop patch - The Green Button
2. create a connection (*.rdp file) to 127.0.0.2 and save it i.e. on desktop
3. open the *.rdp file in notepad and edit the resolution
and add the followingCode:screen mode id:i:1 desktopwidth:i:1600 desktopheight:i:900
4. connectCode:smart sizing:i:1 compression:i:1
5. press ctrl+alt+pause for fullscreen -
Have a look at the LVDS channels. The Acer has only one of the both activ!
-
From Acer Europe, it cost me a lot, about 150!
-
What an ugly trick! But it works! Except for that you get a delay of a dinosaur and some quite unreadable fonts, but sometimes it could be a quite useful. Actually why 127.0.0.2?
For the SSD questions: I really love the Vertex 2 both in the Acer and in my desktop. If you get a good deal on the Vertex 2, then get it. Its faster then the Intel G2. My boot takes exactly 20 seconds. -
Hahahaha! You guys are awesome!
-
Because 127.0.0.1 is your own computer, so logically you go for the next best thing
-
I guess you're right. I've heard the intel has a 3yr opposed to OCZ's 1yr, but I've always thought OCZ's was a little better - I guess not.
Hopefully the next gen, being released soon, doesn't have much more than the g2.
-
127.0.0.2 is your own computer, too. thats why its work.
microsoft disables a connection to 127.0.0.1 (maybe because its an ugly hack
)

Is there a significant improvement over the stock drivers?
