I have a few questions before I install the signed Driver:
    Current status of my Acer:
    1) Installed Stock Acer AMD/Intel Driver
    2) Swiched Bios
    3) Installed AMD 10.12
    4) Switched back

On the other PCs i uninstall the AMD Driver with appwiz.cpl (Control Panel); after that i install the new one.

But how do i proceed with the Acer-Stock + AMD mix?
Should i switch back to discreet and uninstall the AMD driver?

    Create first a backup ;)

If the modded driver modded right, you should be able to deinstall first the AMD one and the Acer one.

For the normal AMD driver we need the old files and configs from the Acer one, to enable the switching option for the new AMD one.

Okay guys, I just got this baby today with an OCZ Vertex 2 SSD which I instantly installed. I have some questions regarding drivers etc.

Which one are a must from acers homepage and which can I be without? There are tons on their website and I'm not a huge fan of bloatware :)

Second, how do I enable Turbo Boost? I have downloaded and installed drivers I'm pretty sure, just don't know how to fire it up :p

    Kind regards,

    svanebjerg.

The device manager should tell you whats missing. You may want the proper bluetooth driver for bluetooth 3.0. There's new touchpad drivers...a lot of the stuff is newer than whats there on the Acer site. You need the AMD graphics drivers from the acer site which also contain the intel ones. To check if turbo boost is working install the monitor here Processors — Intel® Turbo Boost Technology Monitor Overview

I think I remember reading that the 3820TG will only accept a higher screen res of up to 1440x900. I still plan to switch mine out as well, but procrastination's a *****.

    EDIT:

How would I go about fixing this? I just noticed while trying to find the sd card slot. Lightly pushing down on it didn't work, unfortunately. :(

    http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y112/ericc191/PC181155.jpg

    EDIT 2:

Okay, so it looks like there was a foreign object under there. Either from somewhere inside the laptop or not. In any case, I removed it with a small flat head screwdriver. All seems well now.

Turbo Boost is automatically controlled by the bios if the driver is not installed, don't worry about it too much :)

For those who care, I fired up 3dmark 06 on my new 3820TG with the i5 480m, Radeon HD 6550m, hard drive is OCZ Agility 2 ssd, cpu and gpu at stock. Ran the test at the default 1280x768 and got 7792 3dmarks...not bad at all! Been following this thread for awhile, thanks for all the helpful info, this laptop rocks.

I get 9000 on mine with 680 core and 1000 mem on a 6550 been running stable on those clocks for a week. Temps stayed the same around 78.

Don't run your GPU overclocked under normal circumstances. It reduces the lifespan of your GPU.

    On another note, I got 9407 on my 5650 on 1280x768 on 680/1040 :)

Yes i run it overclock on everything once i exit out of 3d and back into 2d it switches the clocks automatically back to default speeds.. Not sure if it reduces the lifespan of the product, i have had things in the past overclocked for many years and no problems.

I would not download that driver if you use the hybrid driver since the hybrid driver is modified and the official driver does not contain those modifications. Wait for the hybrid driver to be updated.

Drivers. Two of us did a long post about the most up to date drivers not more than a 1-2 pages back. Use them. Don't install Acer ePower Manager. For a Vertex 2, install the latest Intel INF update first, then Intel RST 9.6.0.1014.

For everyone: don't install Intel Turbo Boost driver! It is the most ambigious named thing ever and we definately not need it! It has nothing to do with the Turbo Boost in the processor, it was for Intel Graphics, to modify its clockrates based on the load. The newer Intel Graphics drivers have it integrated!

If you want to max out a 3820TG, buy a 580M. It's the best clocker and uses less power than a 620M.

I haven't noticed such behavior, even switching back and forth from AC to DC while OCed (700/1000 while max. stable/artifactsfree frequencies are 725/1040) works without problems. Though havent drained the battery completely with a overclocked card ( ~50%) I tested Mafia 2 without OC and it shutdown after 1h at the predefined 10% capacity.

Power consumption increases overproportionaly with higher clock speeds, so I think it might be possible the battery isn't capable of providing the required VA while CPU/GPU are on full throttle.

I suggest you try DC-gaming first without OC and then with sub-maximal clock speeds.

    Grüße,

    flunserl

Ive used Phantom Drive to create backups of the original disk.
    They got named like this:
    RECOVERY1(17_04_47 - 2011-03-30).000
    RECOVERY2(17_04_47 - 2011-03-30).000
    RECOVERY3(17_04_47 - 2011-03-30).000

    Is this correct?

Ive moved them(the files) to a computer with a physical burner through network. How should I burn them? Should I burn them as ISO or should I mount them first with Daemon tools and then in my burnprogram use the "Copy From disc" selection?

I need some help with this because the original disk would be nice to use as extra space however I dont wanna let it all go.. :)

Edit: Is there anything else I should think about before doing all this or during the process?

As im stuck with an sucky AUO Display Panel im constantly searching for a better one...

the Matte @ laptopscreens is always out of stock, and i cant tell if the glare wont suck like the AUO Glare i already have

Has anyone switched to a better Display in terms of viewing angles and contrast already? Bronsky wrote the samsung may be better, but i cant find a shop for it:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/6416721-post901.html

    Someone tried this one?
Acer LK.13308.003 LCD Screens, $100 retail price.

i hope a Panel will appear sometime soon as the Display is the only thing that bugs me when i think about my 3820tg

Ok just tested: It doesn't work.
Well he recognizes the signer during install, but the driver only loads, when I disable cert-check on startup (by pressing [F8]-key)

    Edit:
Now i have a strange behavior:
I deinstalled the unofficial driver, installed the latest Acer driver; now the CCC shows Catalyst-Version 11.2. Maybe the AMD Driver was signed but not the Intel?

    Thanks for the effort :D I have a 3820tg, i450m 4gb, hd5650.

I have made a clean install, with only your drivers ;) I have some questions though...

How about the intel AHCI and AMT drivers?? What do you use??

I can confirm that the Boardcom WLAN driver works. The bluetooth was painless, installed the newest from ACER and yours afterwards, didn't fail for me :D

For those in the U.S. interested in getting the high capacity 9 cell battery (9000 mAH), the Acer service depot in Texas does have them in stock, I just ordered one myself for $88 plus shipping...a site called Notebook Solutions sells one for like $160, which I almost bought, but then searched this forum one more time and found the nugget of info.

The contact information was provided in Part One of this thread topic, here it is again:

These batteries are available from the Temple depot:

    BT.00607.128 BATTERY 6-CELL LI-ION 6000MAH - SIMPLO AS10B 3S2PMAIN COMMON ID:AS10B7E

    BT.00907.013 BATTERY 9-CELL LI-ION 9000MAH - SIMPLO AS10E 3S3P MAIN COMMON ID:AS10E7E

    Call: 866-658-2237

The part number for it that I was given is BT.00903.014. -EDIT 4/6/11- this part number is 8400MAH which I returned, stick to the other 9 cell part number quoted above.

I have an other question... What program do you use for batterystatus?? I find BatteryBar pretty stylish and seems professional...

But atm my battery has a capacity of 58180mWh and a discarge of 8-9600mW, this does it calculate to 5hrs 1min... By my own calculation this should be: 6-7hrs??

So my question is.... What?? :D Any program better suited for the job?

The Intel RST drivers are not strictly necessary since it is only needed if Windows does not support AHCI. Either way, it's here. As for iAMT, it's not needed at all, it's a monitoring application.

It appears Acer updated the Intel drivers to 8.15.10.2189 a few days ago, but it's the Intel only driver, they did not bother integrating it with the latest ATi drivers :/

I cannot recall any attempts because it's simply pointless to overclock a 5470 because it won't translate to a substantial performance gain, unlike the 5650 which has a far higher overclock potential, potentially outperforming the 5730 or even the 5750 (GDDR3 version). As for instructions, download the AMD GPU Clock Tool and run it while the 5470 is running, then overclock as desired and test stability using ATiTool for a few hours to test stability, although don't run overclock 24/7, it decreases the lifespan of your GPU.

It's not perfect, but my 14 year old showed me that if you pull the power plug, then push the P button right as the blue light comes on, the laptop won't try to switch. I'd prefer a danged on/off switch, but that's what we get.

Mine asks me if I want to switch. Try and reinstall the driver, maybe, from acer's website:

    HD6550/6370
    HD5650/5470

See if that forces the box allowing you to select "change" or "cancel" again. After doing a clean install, the box pops up, however, I forget if it ever did beforehand.

edit: apparently if you hold the P-key while unplugging, it overrides that. I haven't verified that.

Sorry for the double post, just a new topic, thought i'd create a different post.

On topic of SSD's per my previous posts, other than price, does anybody have their opinions/reasoning for opting crucial, intel, ocz, etc.? And which would be best for just everyday use, nothing out of the ordinary.

I've found vertex 2 sandforce and intel x-25m for 189.99.

edit: I think I'm going with the intel. I've read some not-so-hot things with OCZ. Unless anybody has anything to add, different brands, etc.? The more information the better :)

have any of you experienced problems with the keyboard??

at the moment my keyboard acts if I am holding down the fn key while typing.

it writes the numbers/symbols instead of letters when pressing the following keys: J K L U I O, etc.

Yeah, I think I'm leaning towards the intel. I'm just nervous that getting an SSD now costs almost $1.50/gb. I'm nervous 120gb will be too small, but I guess I can finally start to use my external HD for movies and stuff.

I wonder if the prices will drop once G3's come out shortly..

edit: off topic, does scrybe work with our laptops? I can't for the life of me get it to work -_-
edit2: Oh, nevermind. It's not just holding shift+ctrl, but holding it WHILE doing the maneuver on the trackpad. wish they clarified that..

I only use 45GB of my 120GB SSD. :D I off-load anything large to an external conventional drive and keep my documents on a 16GB SD that I swap with my Slate 500. Then I sync them with Synctoy. Works great but would love a USB 3.0 to increase the transfer speed to the external conventional HD.

After climbing past Dell to the number 2 slot in global sales, Acer has made some bonehead moves as of late. It's unrelenting focus on the EU and Chinese markets have cost it a lot of sales as those consumer markets have softened. The focus on tablets at the expense of its core netbook business was another brow raising decision. Ignoring the north american market has been another.

Not surprisingly, Acer's CEO has resigned (no doubt under pressure from the board). The company immediately retreated from its focus on tablets and seems to be signaling a refocusing on its notebook business. Maybe that's good news for us here in the states. It would be nice to see a better diversity of Acer's products here in the US.

Acer CEO resigns, Acer to tread “cautiously” with mobile devices

Installing the "Intel iAMT Driver" will solve that issue for you.

Unfortunately, netbooks are still going to die out. I believe Acer was on the right track with its focus on the tablet market, though. We'll see what happens from here.

Tablets are so limited though. Tablet hybrids with keyboard docks are much better.

Tablets are only for reading, if you need to type or anything a laptop >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> tablet

Currently, everyone's going to follow Apple. And right now that's tablets. I agree about a keyboard, ect. I used to have a little Acer netbook (while I waited for my 3820TG to return) and it was a pain in the to read on forums ect and overall just too clunky for the type of usage I wanted. I returned it for a Nook Color and rooted it. Now, I have an awesome little tablet that I can get a lot done on. And when I need some portable computing, I want a notebook with some power. Not a netbook. I will say that the one I bought was pretty weak, though. N455, 2GB DDR3, Intel GMA whatever.

    Hi,
Does anyone know if Acer has updates the graphics package yet so I can install W7 SP1? I've tried using the HP Envy driver method, but it doesn't work (the driver can't be activated once its installed, so I'm forced to roll back). Also, has anyone encountered issues with Youtube videos, particularly when skipping parts of them? 90% of the time I do it, explorer seems to crash, and the dialog box appears for a bit, before explorer restarts itself. I don't lose any work or anything, but it's just really annoying.

    Cheers
