LOL! You can get it in any common computer selling shops.
I thought you want to buy the hardware keyboard in the beginning.
Bring your laptop or tell the shop your model, they would tell you which protector is nice enough for you.
But I don't like keyboard protector =.=! They are heat trapper.

    Hi Guys,

I'm extremely tempted by this deal on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115571

It's got the 9500M GS card and the T5900(2.2ghz) processor. Before I pull the trigger on this one, I have a few questions.

Will this be able to play older games like WoW and Source engine games (mostly CS:S and TF2) fairly well? Fairly well, to me, being a decent frame rate at medium settings.

I'm planning to take this to class, does it have a decent battery life for word processing?

I'm concerned about the media player touchpad, does it significantly reduce the amount of real estate for the keyboard? Or is the keyboard size comparable to other similar sized laptops?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well, I advise you do not buy AS6920G as it is problematic.
We already have plenty of thread about AS6920G annoying problems.
I would like to suggest you the other model but not AS6920G/AS8920G. I hope the victims would be lessen.

Thanks for the warning. From reading the threads on this forum, it sounds like the throttling issue is somewhat common but also has something of a fix. Do you have any thoughts on my other questions: battery life, keyboard size?

I haven't had any throttling or heat issues (maybe because of my CPU undervolt, but I also overclock the GPU quite a bit), the battery life is good - I can get 4 hours in class with wifi and min brightness, while using Firefox, Foxit Reader, and MS Word. Keyboard size is also good IMO.

Yeah, the throttling only really gimps your system when gaming. During normal use, the system is fine.
I'd still buy it if given another chance - it does everything I want to and more.
And remember - Acer HAS offered to repair my system because it has exhibited these symptoms (and one would hope others as well).

0.8V!? If it is, I am not surprise it doesn't throttle.
Well, I tried something else a few days ago.
In a cooler place, not exceed 25C. With undervolt to my minimum 0.925V(excluded my tweak on EIST stuffs) and the holes behind the laptop is clean and clear.
AS6920G won't throttle in this state.

I never thought much of it. I was actually kinda disappointed that I couldn't get to the min voltage of 0.9500V but I guess I should be happy eh? The overall lowered temps definitely helped my GPU overclock too, at load (ATITool) only mid 60s in a 24 deg C ambient temp room.

I should probably get back to stability testing my own undervolt to see how much lower I can squeak it.

My 6920G came yesterday! Aside from all of the bloatware, I was really impressed with it. The build quality is really nice and the display is great. I'm also happy to report that I played about 2 hours of WoW on high settings without any instances of the throttling problem (knock on wood).

Does anyone have any set-up recommendations? drivers, etc?

It seems you're out of throttling problems. Congratulation.
    Mind gives your specification here?

My driver recommendation is the Nvidia Geforce 9500M GS update.
Download the latest driver for your GPU. You can see some performance boost I guess.

hello all. i've been searching and comparing laptops that are 700~900$ with a dedicated VGA card. i narrowed my choices to the Asus G50, Acer 6920G and 1 of the dell studio 15 (forgot it's number).

anyway so i found this really good Acer 6920G for 862$, specs:
    Intel core 2 duo T5900 2.2GHz
    nvidia geforce 9500m GS 512MB DDR2
    3GB DDR2 (up to 4 max)
    320GB hard-disk
    Blu-ray reader / dvd-cd reader-burner
    16 HD cinecrystal LCD
microsoft Vista (cant remember which one) most likely 64bit (and if not i'll up it)

now my dad doesn't like it because it's an acer laptop. i've read nearly all 70 pages over the past few days and i'm totally convinced that it's a good laptop.
the throttling is fixable (or close to fixable) and under-volting will make it live longer so good.
if i can find the asus G50 with a new processor but 2GHz, nvidia 9600M GS 512MB DDR2 for about 200$ more, w/out blu-ray, 15.4 inch, and the other stuff nearly the same. should i get the asus or acer.

and i'll be using it mainly for gaming and movies, little of the time for university work.

We have a THROTTLING problem for Acer Aspire 6920G(not all AS 6920G but majority of this model), I am a victim and user of AS 6920G. I would say go for ASUS if you're willing to pay extra. The processor is only 2.0GHz(sounds pain) but the graphic card is 9600M GS which is better than 9500M GS(slightly).
Well, if you compare the price/worth, Acer is giving better specifications and cheaper. While ASUS is giving almost the same(slightly weaker I think) with higher price.

i have the 6920G and i'm pretty happy with it, the throttling is annoying but i can live with it
if i were to make a decision again i probably wouldve looked around more and gotten an asus g50, cause there was an g50-x1 with a 9800M GS, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, 2.26GHz core2duo on sale at the time for $999

The throttling issue is indeed an annoyance, but not enough to make me suggest an Asus.
Why not look into an Aspire 6930? Similar specs, but no throttling issues. Getting one with a GeForce 9600M GS or GT with GDDR3 is crucial.

EDIT: And reading through all 72 pages is a feat worthy of applause, good sir.

LOL. I never thought of that. XD.

    @Midoelbasha,
Just be careful on AS6920G/AS8920G model, these models are well-known THROTTLE issues machines. AS 6930G is more worth it as Tehsuigi mentioned.

many reviews show the acer as a good computer with even higher rating than some of the HP computers of the same price range.

notebookcheck.com said the case was much better than the old Acer laptops and so does the case seem fragile to anyone or it's good?
the thing is i'm outside the UK and USA so amazon wont ship it to me as they require a human being to receive laptops unlike other products. so i'm stuck with what is imported and there arent many Asus laptops lying around compared to the Acer.

i didnt see an acer 6930/5G gemstone with the cinedash on it. i did see a 6930 w/out a cinedash for the same price of the 6920G. but the 6930 doesnt have a dedicated VGA so it's a no for me, as i said i'm buying mostly for gaming since it's a desktop replacement sorta.

    thanks for the help

    6930G - number pad.
    6935G - CineDash.
G models have dedicated GPUs, regular models don't.

    thats the thing
i havent seen any 6930G anywhere.
there is only the 8920G which is gonna be too heavy to take to university 5 days a week. the most i saw were HP and sony.
the sony vaio and HP dv6 do have good specs but very expensive compared to the Acer and Asus.

there was a review that said the blu-ray doesnt work with every disc that was inserted. anyone countered that problem ??
many people say the gemstone blue series are much better than the old acer laptops so i tried to search for some people comparing acer and HP, most people said buy the hp but they didnt give reasons so wasnt that much help. any opinions?

I would say 18inch laptop is not really mobile =.=!
It is too heavy. It can be bring anywhere of course but, in the cost of its weight. I would buy a desktop instead of 18inch laptop.

The new Gemstone Blues are definitely leaps and bounds of improvement over the old generic Acer notebooks, both in terms of design and in build quality.
I think the Blu-ray issues got ironed out - otherwise, just use MakeMKV and rip the darn thing!

Have you taken a look at the Dell Studio 14z? That 9400M G will perform as good, if not better, than most low-end dedicated cards (not 9500M GS levels, but still strong).

their screen is a little bit small, i was looking for laptops with 15~16 in screens.

i guess that seals the deal.
if the asus is only a little bit expensive than the acer but with similar specs i'll go for it. if not then the acer 6920G it is.

thanks for all the help and i'll be sure to post the 3dmark 06 benchmark once i get it.

If you buy AS 6920G, I would here 1st to wish you that your AS 6920G would not have the THROTTLING issue. If not, you'll be visiting the famous throttling fix topics here. Moreover, there is no full solution or 100% success solution for it.

ya i noticed but since i can disable it while playing then it's fine
and on the move i wont be doing much gaming, mostly university work or maybe watch a series if i've a gap in my schedule.

i did visit the undervolting and throttling topic. undervolting takes a long time but it's worth it having nearly 30min of laptop while mobile.

i'm going after tomorrow to get the laptop n check if any asus came out.

looks like sony just admitted that they had faulty nvidia cards in some of their products

have any users of the 6920G with the 9500M GS (G84) run into any problems? i havent heard anything about it, so it doesn't seem like the 9500M GS in the 6920G is affected

Midoelbasha, the 6920G will be just fine for most tasks. The throtting only kicks in when the CPU is getting taxed hard.
Darrick, I think one of the main reasons Nvidia pumped out the 9500M GS and its faux-9-Series brethren, the 9650M GS and 9300M G, is that they were able to fix the problems with manufacturing the G84 and G86 cores.

You mean you overclock your GPU like "OMG" for 1 year?
This is really awesome to see such intensive overclock.
Well, 9500M GS is a revise version of 8600M GT. It actually fixed the bugs of 8600M GT and have slightly better performance than 8600M GT.

On the current BIOS, it said to support 4GB(max).
However, I checked the MotherBoard and saw some AS6920G users get 8GB, it should able to support 8GB of RAM if you're good in modification. Don't forget 64bit OS too. XD

I am not sure. Last time, we have a discussion on AS 6920G with 8GB. You should look around this topic and around this Acer forum.

I have a question here LOL. Tehsuigi should able to answer.
If I installed 64bit Vista, then, the embedded Windows XP would disappear right? I mean the Arcade Deluxe can be start(using the Cine Dash) without going into the OS by the power-on. If I installed Windows Vista x64 and install all the stuffs in the Driver & Applications DVD, can I still have the function(running Arcade Deluxe with cine dash and without pressing power-on button).

Hi everyone. I apologize if this is repeated but there were so many posts to read through.

I have the AS6920-6621. I had to do a restore. I used the eRecovery partition. During the restore an error message (i lost the prnt scrn image and cant remember the exact eror) regarding the arcade instant on program. Now whenever I play a movie the acer arcade program gives me the error message that the program is not responding and closes. Any help for this? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

And when I try to burn a recovery disk I get a message about half way through the process telling me there is no blank disk and ends the process.

    Help please?? thanks.

    Graphic card problem perhaps?
Have you tried installing latest official(186.03) Nvidia geforce driver???
    Try it and see.

Well, you also can download the Acer Arcade Deluxe from Acer ftp website.
Then, install it again. Maybe your Acer Arcade Deluxe in the HDD or Disc(you burnt) corrupted.

    You're using AS 6920G with Nvidia Geforce 9500M GS 512MB DDR2?
I assume you have this graphic card.
Maybe it is due to the graphic driver corrupted or faulty.

Solution(assuming you have 9500M GS nvidia geforce):
    Download driver sweeper.
Now I will teach you to uninstall the graphic driver,
Click Start(located on the bottom left of your laptop screen). Type device manager and press enter.
You will see a box pop up. Find your Display adapters.
You should see Nvidia geforce 9500M GS. Right click on it and select uninstall.
Once done, it will call you to restart.
After restart, run driver sweeper. Box pop up you will see something. Select all Nvidia option(chipset and display) there and click on analyse. A list of stuffs will appear, click clean. Then repeat this, select all Nvidia option(chipset and display) there and click on analyse. A list of stuffs will appear, click clean.
    Restart your computer.
Install the 186.03 geforce driver. VOILA.
