Is the 6920 still available?
-
-
Nope - it's a generation-and-a-half out of production by now.
The 6930 and 6935 models are more or less the same, but with faster and better internals (6930 has a number pad instead of the CineDash).
I think the 6530's still out there too, on the recent AMD platform. -
-
Hopefully they kept using the same screens on the 6930/5 as on the 6920 - I love mine.
-
Sooooo, I've installed Windows 7 and, so far, it seems okay. Having said that, I've not tried everything. Oh yeah, Cinedash doesn't work but I'm guessing that I can fix that later
I'd like to be able to use Virtual PC, but it turns out the CPU doesn't support hardware virtualisation. I'm pretty sure that I can swap out the processor, but what's the best option? I'm not looking at spending hundreds! -
I got Win7 on mine and after d/ling some drivers (I forget which one), I got Cinedash to work, no problem
-
The Dritek Launch Manager handles the CineDash and such. Download it from Acer's website.
Thankfully, the VT setting isn't forced in BIOS (as I'm able to run Virtual PC just fine), so any Socket P CPU with an FSB of 800 or less with VT should be fine. Unfortunately, you may have to end up spending around a hundred or two because you can't sell the CPU you've got right now; Acer will only honour your warranty if the original components are put back in it. That's why my old T5550 is collecting dust in my apartment.
That being said, try looking for a T8100 or T8300 first - they're at least on the newer Penryn core (runs cooler at lower voltages). If not, aim for a T7300 or T7500 - won't be much of a speed boost, but I saw some T7300s for under a hundred.
And whatever you do, don't get an engineering sample CPU! -
Hey Guys. My battery just died and i am looking for a replacement. I have found the original (AS07B41 for Aspire 6920G-834G32Bn) but i also stumbled upon this: http://www.net-electronics.de/akku-acer-aspire-7220-7320-7330-7520-7530-as07b41-p-1400.html?ref=21 (yeah, i'm from Germany)
This is a 8 cell 14.8V battery, but it says explicitly that "should your old battery have 11.1V (6 cell) you can of course use ours without any problems." [Orig: 14.8 Volt Spannung (8 Zellen Akku), sollte ihr alter Akku 11.1 Volt haben (6 Zellen Akku) können sie unseren Akku selbstverständlich problemlos einsetzen ]
Now, i don't know how trustworthy that statement is, since i did a little research and found out that it isn't recommended to use higher voltage than the nominal one (exactly what i knew, but...). Still, the offer is pretty tempting since it's half the price of the original and has a larger capacity (5.2Ah vs 4.4Ah).
What i fear most is that it might run for a little while, but it's gonna over strain the circuitry leaving me a laptop short and no one wanting to take responsibility.
So, what's your take on this, does anyone have similar experiences?
PS: i have already written them an email asking about this. waiting now for an answer. -
i wouldn't take the chance on the battery, just remember... you get what you pay for.
with that said, i dunno how much that 8 cell is selling for, but i got my 9 cell and it's an original part, for i think $90 shipped -
-
I didn't know the 6920G came with a 9-cell battery. The 8-cell is the only one listed on Acer's support page, and AcerParts.com only shows 6- and 8-cells.
-
ya know what, i think the 9 cell i bought is actually an 8 cell. just did a quick search on ebay and only see 6 and 8 cells, so maybe the seller i bought mine from screwed up. i just remember it saying, 11.1v = 6 cell and 14.8v = 9 cell. my acer is currently all boxed up and ready to be sold on ebay, but the 14.8v is what i had in my acer and it's been great... 6hr w/ all battery savings setting and 4.5-5 hr of regular wifi web surfing with medium screen brightness. the battery was a decent amount heavier than the 6 cell, but is the same size. as long as it's an acer original part, you should be okay. but wait and see if someone else may know better and can chime in?

Hi there, I installed the Dritek LM and, when I run it it gives me options for the Empowering Technology, E-Mail and WWW buttons, but not the Cinedash
It is being recognised by something because when I press the button Windows Media Centre starts up (even though Acer Arcade Deluxe is installed.) I mainly used the Cinedash for volume control and it's that feature that I'd like to get running again.
What is Empowering Technology anyway? I might install that
I'll hunt for CPUs later, I think, as I'm definitely interested in this VT feature. Admittedly, I think my interest comes from not being able to use it!
-
Don't bother install the Empowering Technology.
It is nothing but duplication of Windows features with the name of Acer only.
Installing it is totally pointless as it will use much more resources of your laptop.
You can change the Launch Manager button to start other software/program by click the "Browse" available there.
For example:
My www button renamed to Google Chrome and Browsed to Google Chrome directory. So, it launchs Google Chrome when I press.
My E-Mail button renamed to WLM and browsed to Windows Live Messenger directory. Now, it launch Windows Live Messenger when I press.
The Empowering Technology(e) renamed to Autodesk Maya and browsed to Autodesk Maya directory. When I press, it opens Autodesk Maya instead of Empowering Tech stuffs. -
LOL
I was double checking that everything works after installing Windows 7 and I can't believe I didn't realize you can assign new programs to the buttons until now... I didn't use Outlook, Empowering, or WWW buttons because I never liked using Outlook or IE. -
I've mapped my Email and Browser buttons to Live Messenger and Firefox. That's a bit nifty.
Still nothing from the Cinedash though. I did the reset thing (power off, remove battery for ten seconds.) -

Hi guys... I'm facing a problem here. I can't play blu-ray disk on my AS6920G... i'm able to play it before i installed win7.. but after installed win7, i can't play blu-ray with powerdvd 9 or windvd pro 2010... both software keep saying disk not supported.
Any idea?
Thanks. -
Check if you have set the right region code (A/B/C - should be written on the disk) and try again. Also, see if you can open the disk content in explorer; if not, your drivers might be at fault, even though i doubt it.
Some other apps are known to interfere with powerdvd 9 (antivirs, for example; i have nod 32, but they work fine together).
edit: also, did you upgrade vista to 7, or did you do a clean install? -
-
I tried to change the region in powerdvd 9... but the option is gray out... i can't make any change to it... -
-
I did downloaded acer arcade deluxe... but still it asking me to insert a disk although i can change the blu-ray region in it...
Any idea anyone? -
DID ACER STEAL MY TV TUNER?
Hello guys,
1st time poster. Please let me know if I should post this somewhere else.
Anyone with a 6920 will be able to help very easily, so please read, and thanks in advance!
I think Acer have forgotten to put a component back in to the laptop, after it was repaired under warranty.
After I got it home, I decided to clean the fluff out from behind each vent.
When I removed the smallest panel (bottom left if your 6920 is face down, and easily removed via one screw), I noticed that an empty input was sat there, marked "TV & Robson only". http://forum.notebookreview.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
Am I right, or was there never anything there to begin with?
Thanks again!

On another note, just got my replacement battery (14.8V 5.2Ah) and it powers the laptop just fine. Only problem is that it doesn't seem to want to charge when the notebook is on. It just stands still on 8% charge. I shut the notebook down for 10 mins, restart, and it shows 9% charge... Will leave it to charge over night and see what happens. Does anyone know how to fix this? BIOS update maybe? (running on stock v1.06) -
-
All 6920 motherboards have that printed under the second mini-PCI slot.
If your machine didn't come with a TV tuner, it wasn't removed.
Check the right side of your laptop, in between your hinge and the USB ports. If there isn't a coaxial input there, your system was not configured for a TV tuner. -
I mean from the Top-View.
If you're considering it is a Bottom-View, then, it is the Right-Side. -
Here's the user manual: page 40 has the left side, page 41 the right (and where the TV coaxial input would be). -
most, like mine, did not come with tv tuner. i have a dell 1490 wireless card in there atm which works fine so slot is enabled (but i cant say why on this forum
).
i cant see any aerial wires, are the they there on all models anyway or just the ones that come with tuner? -
I really do think AS6920G TV Tuner is vary on Models. I found that the TV Tuner is just below the Empowering Technology button, am I correct? It is blocked by a Plastic for my laptop. Is this OK?
AS6920G is a model really very vary on its model.
Just like my AS6920G have the Remote Controller(not cinedash, it is like your house TV/DVD Remote Controller which have Channel Selection, Volume, Arrows, Play, WMP, and so on), while Tehsuigi said that his AS6920G doesn't have it(he told me long ago). -
Where could this TV tuner card be purchased from?
Would it have to be a specific Acer branded TV card or would a generic one off eBay work?
If the PCI-E slot is enabled, which it seems to be, what else could be put there? -
ACER DIDN'T STEAL MY TV TUNER.
Such prompt replies! I really appreciate everyone's responses, thanks again.
For anyone still unsure, Tehsuigi is correct:
My model is the 6920g 6a4g25mn. and next to the 3 USB ports (Right side) is a redundant plastic-covered port (as Darksilver also described), with a TV symbol next to it.
It can probably safely be assumed that no port = no TV Tuner card.
I guess I never had a TV tuner in the first place
Ash -
It does mean you've got the spot available for another mini-PCI card - maybe some Intel Turbo Memory? If you can get the wiring right, maybe you CAN configure in the TV tuner.
@DarkSilver: Yeah, that's right. I think it accepts a separate antenna or cable input. -
@DarkSilver: "AS6920G have the Remote Controller"
i want one.
what does it do? do you have a photo? -
any one removed/changed their keyboard? was it easy?
mine has an american/arabic keyboard and it would be nice to change for a uk one (i miss the pound sign)
UK-Keyboard-for-Acer-Aspire-5930-5930Z-6920-6935-Laptop -
About the Remote Controller, I am lazy to take it to shoot. Probably will do it when free. -
What would need to be done to fit some Turbo Memory or a TV Tuner?
Is there any point in using Intel Turbo Memory when I already have 4Gb of RAM and a 4Gb Windows Readyboost partition on an SD card? -
1. Turbo Memory is a standalone mini-PCI card. Plug it in, install the driver, away you go. The TV tuner would need the input jack to be there - and in this case, if you didn't get one from the factory, you can't go and stick it in there.
2. Not really, no. The ReadyBoost half of the 1GB Turbo Memory would be faster than your SD card, though. -
Hey guys, thought i'd make a little status update:
first: Got myself a new battery (11.1V, 5200mAh, Panasonic cells ~ 75E) - works beautifully, around 3h+ in power saving mode, 2h with full brightness and cpu maxed out (no gpu stress)
second: Undervolted to 0.975, -10°C and 100% stable
third: Upgraded to a 9600M GT 512 gddr3 - worked right from the start, without any flashing. Only problem, like stated in another thread, it displays nothing until the win drivers load. The performance gain is really impressive, i get more fps at higher settings than with the 9500M GS (Burnout Paradise@1920x1080, highest, 4xAA, no SSAO ~30+ fps; POP(2008)@1920x1080, highest, no AA ~ 20+ fps; NFS Undercover@1920x1080, highest, no AA ~28+ fps; UT3@1920x1080, highest, no AA ~ 30+ fps). And believe me, on the built in FHD display with its tiny dot pitch you barely notice differences between AA and no AA. For ~100$+shipping it's well worth the upgrade (if you like to get your hands dirty). One more fun fact: it actually is cooler than the 9500M GS, which brings me to...
fourth: while installing the 9600, i replaced the stock thermal compound with arctic silver 5 for both the c- and gpu. And what do you know: -5°C on both ^_^ -
hi, can nice fellow pm me link for the 6920g service manual?
-
No. You don't have PMs enabled on your account yet. Post more, wait some time, then PM someone your question directly.
That, and asking for the manual on the forums is against NBR rules. -
It seems that Acer uploaded drivers for Windows 7...
I'm going to download them and install them -
ya. does 6920g have BT 2.0 or 2.1? also there are new 186.64 on the site anybody tried them?
-
the cinedash console volume control does not work properly with the new launch manager....any1 have same problems or is it just me?
-
yeah the volume selector is not working properly for me when using the windows 7 version
-
i haven't tried the 7 version but the vista version works fine. i wonder if the new nvidia drivers are any good..
-
Just your luck - Acer's posted the Windows 7 drivers for the 6920G at long last, including the Win7 version for our model.
EDIT: I retract my previous statement - the Win7 Launch Manager has the volume scale out of whack for the CineDash. Stick to the Vista version. -
Hi guyz. bought myself this lappy 3 days ago, loving it alot. but there is a problem. i upgraded it to windows 7 and now the tuba sounds like @$$. it sounds like a broken speaker box. i have downloaded realtek drivers from their site, and currently have them installed, as win 7 default drivers dont give much options for equalizer and environment settings.
any way to make TUBE sound better??
Drivers perhaps? -
Go download the original Acer drivers designed for your 6920G - they're specially customized to utilize your Tuba. Regular drivers may or may not make it work, and they may not have the Natural Bass Boost or Sound Space Expander options on the Dolby tab.
And yes, Vista drivers will happily work on Windows 7.
