hi TehSuigi, well i managed to install the drivers afterall. There are no Realtek sound drivers available on acer's website for windows 7. So first i installed the New Realtek drivers from realtek's website, but the sound comes horrible. So then i tried the drivers that came with my laptop. Used the compatability mode option to ue the drivers under Vista mode. And they installed.
Tuba sounds great. Everything working 100 %.
A sidenote : New Launchmanager doesnt work. So i installed the one supplied with the laptop, and it works like a charm.
Loving my laptop NOW..![]()

I have everything working on windows 7 64-bit.
please do NOT link me to them -
-
Not bothering - I like being able to overclock my 9500M GS using NST and the Verde drivers.
Probably not going to bother with Acer's releases again. -
I just performed a clean install of windows 7 pro x64. Everything works except for my brightness controls. Do i need to install e-power management or any other drivers?
Thanks,
J
EDIT: Got the brightness to work. Had to download the display driver from Acer, not Nvidia. -
j8048188, I had issues with 195.62 and the brightness controls too. Acer's drivers would naturally work, but Nvidia's previous release 186.81 did as well.
Also, I reinstalled the Dritek Launch Manager and Realtek audio drivers that originally came with the 6920G (yes, the Vista ones). -
Hello TehSuigi, I'm new here.
Have a 6920g laptop bought the t8300 9500gs and 4gb ram version.
I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and used most of Acer's win7 drivers.
Using NVIDIA driver ver 186.81 oc'ed GPU using EVGA Precision to 625/1425/475 (and even higher) - as you can see i'm more or less matched with your system.
Still, testing with 3dmark06 i only get around 4250. my CPU score is actually a little better than yours 2160-2170 due to tweaking win7 to performance (you know basic shutting off services etc.) but my SM scores stay the same 2.0 is 17xx and 3.0 is 15xx.
That's as far as i know about improving performance - simplify windows and oc gpu using EVGA Percision.
So what am i missing? why can't i go over 4250 to the 4800+ like i see many of you guys get to? do i need to oc cpu/ram/hdd or what am i missing that is preventing me from reaching better 3dmark06 scores?
Remember - i'm a kinda new to performance enhancing so forgive me -
What resolution are you testing it on? AFAIK you can't OC the CPU/RAM/HDD.
-
I am using T8100 2.1Ghz and Geforce 9500M GS 512MB DDR2 625/475/1425 OCed(186.82 Driver).
I got 4850 Score for 3Dmark06.
Your problem might be,
a.) Power Option(do you see it to High Performance?)
b.) Driver(the one you're using now) not suitable for you.
c.) Tweak your system, turn-off useless start-ups(Arcade Deluxe, Adobe sh!ts and so on) and services.
d.) Your 3Dmark06 setting(resolution, AA, AF and so on). -
a) Yes - It's always on High Performance and i do check that the advanced settings to see everything is at 100%
b) I get 4250-/+ with different drivers it's not specifically the 186.81 version i just chose this one because i saw TehSuigi got a high score with it and his system is similar to mine.
c) Tweaked to perfection this is why my cpu score is fine.
d) My 3dmark06 is the free version where u can't change any settings thus i use the common default settings (res: 1280x1024).
I've been through XP, Vista and Win7 both x32 and x64 and all gave more or less same max of 4250-/+. Problem must be deeper than i thought. As i said before it's the GPU (SM 2.0/3.0) score on 3dmark06 that is giving low numbers i think. -
If it's 1280x1024, then, no doubt, it's normal to have lower score with that.
I suspect your AS6920G have a max resolution of 1920x1080(good but a lame idea to have this [censored] resolution on non-high-end machine) right?
Tehsuigi and my AS6920G have a max resolution of 1366x768 only. So, our Default 3DMark06 Setting is 1280x768. -
sorry for the misunderstanding like i said i'm new to this.
one question though - what would be your 3dmark06 at res 1280x1024 ?
btw 1920x1080 is great i wouldn't change it for anything watching movies in full hd is a real treat i would hate to have a lower res for movie watching. -
i just run my 3D mark06 again, on my slimmed down win 7 64 copy, at 1280x768 and got 5521 -
I've had so many problems now and no help.
My CPU is running at around 70%, and although there is nothing under the Processes tab that is sucking it up, under Resource Monitor > Processes, System Interrupts - Deferred Procedure Calls and Interrupt Service Routines (PID = -)is sucking up around 62% .
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium and start-up is sluggish, taking around 10 minutes to start (stuck on the screen with the Windows Logo).
My speakers crackle when playing any sounds.
Please help. -
Hi KALewi, and welcome to the forums! I've moved your topic into the 6920 Owner's Lounge so other users can give you a hand.
I've never seen any instances of what you're talking about with the System Interrupts. Is performance affected when this happens? How warm is your CPU getting? Have you tested to see if you're throttling?
As for boot-up, that doesn't sound right. 10 minutes with the Windows logo (before you get to log in, right) is way too long. That might denote a problem with the hard drive.
I get the occasional crackle, but turning down the Bass Boost in the Speakers properties helped quite a bit. I use the original Vista drivers the machine came with. -
I'm not throttling accooding to the Rightmark program although all of the CPU details tell me that they're running at ~60-70% on CPU0 and CPU1. The temperature is 44oC (not sure if this is too high).
And yeah, it takes around 10 minutes at that point. This crackle isn't occasional, it's stopped me using the laptop for music and I can just about stick watching TV through it, but out of interest how would I go about turning down the Bass boost? Thanks. -
Temp seems about fine. Is your CPU dropping to a lower performance state, which would be seen by you as an increase in CPU load? This is different than throttling, because your CPU is supposed to drop to a lower state when it's not as busy unless specified not to by Windows.
If I were you, I'd go back to using the original Vista sound drivers that came with the 6920G. You can get them from Acer's download page.
Right-click on the Volume icon and select Playback devices. Then highlight Speakers and click the Properties button. Switch over to the Dolby tab, and move the sliders around. Also, try ticking the Limited Output button to see if that helps.
If it doesn't, time to call Acer Support for their advice and a possible hardware replacement. -
Hello mates,
I have a 5920g with a recently updated gpu (ati 4650) and a t7300 c2d and i think that 2 Ghz are not enough and they are slowing my laptop down.
Which are my options for a cpu upgrade?
What series of proccesors are compatible? -
Wrong topic, g47. This is for 6920G owners.
But since there isn't a topic for 5920G owners, I'd be happy to help.
The 5920G uses the PM965 chipset and Socket P. You're limited to T-series CPUs with an 800 MHz FSB or lower.
I personally recommend the T8300 or T9300 - sweet spot in terms of price vs. performance, and they're on the newer Penryn cores (the T7xxx series are on the older Merom cores). Penryns run cooler and clock-for-clock faster. -
Oh, i am very sorry, my mistake about the topic, haven't noticed.
And of course thank you for your answer, i will go for a t9300 i think.
But can i go for a t9900 or at least something over 9300 (9400 - 9900)?
As regards value for money, the best choice is t8300-t9300? -
i have some stuff to say:
1) i have replaced the board of the laptop, after having some power issues. however, the throttling issue isnt solved. i waited ten days till the board arrived from acer, so i think it is brand new or maybe from stock or something. now, i dont think it is a hardware issue.
2) using nvidia system tools, i overclocked the gpu to 625/1425/475 (like tehsuigi) and it works great. i've noticed serious fps increase in games like dragon age, and the temps didnt change. should have done it before. but better late than never. the max temp reached is 75C. i guess that is okay right?
3) do you think it is better to undervolt the cpu? i followed the guide and i got bsod. could someone help? i have a t5750 2.0 ghz btw. also do you think it is a good idea to overclock it? -
i am using the 6.2.39 bio protection driver on windows 7-64. everyting works great... until....
the laptop goes to sleep, then it doesnt work at all.
i have seen other complaints of this, anyone have a solution?
maybe someway to reset/restart the driver when coming back from sleep? -
@g47: Nope - the T9900 uses the 1066 MHz front side bus that only the PM45 chipset can handle. It'll be completely incompatible.
The other two faster CPUs for the 5920G are the T9500 and X9000, which I'd only recommend over the T9300 if you can find them cheaper. The T9500 is only 100 MHz faster than the T9300, and the X9000 has a higher thermal envelope rating, and may not have BIOS compatibility.
@hna: I'd stability test your GPU speeds first using something like FurMark or ATiTool. Every GPU is different due to production variances, and not all can handle the speeds I use. 75C is excellent temps - you should only start worrying about 85-90.
And a BSOD means that your CPU is not stable at that voltage. Simply bump it up a step or two and try again. Not sure how you're going to overclock the CPU - SetFSB doesn't support the 6920G yet.
@gazza: Sorry, I don't use the FPR at all. -
LOL. I just found that the Intel Matrix Storage(Windows 7) cause the FREEZING Problem for my AS6920G on Windows 7. Have it uninstalled, now, everything works great again.
Recently, I found my CPU have hairs inside.
Will it cause any problem? (don't have small tools to remove them) -
-
So, I tested and tried a few version of IMS. All failed.
Then, I remembered, the 1st time I install Windows 7, I got no freeze until I install every Drivers(except fingerprint). I begun to think which Driver caused problem. Thus, the only driver which give me trouble all the time was IMS since I tested a lot of it's versions. I uninstalled it and everything got fixes XD. -
So, the faster cpu i can put in without problems (plug and play, right?) is the T9500 or the vheaper T9300.
Thank you again. -
-
overclock isnt sticking with nTune. i've set a profile to load when windows starts, but after i restart, the stock settings revert. why is that?
-
@g47: That's right - drop in and go.
@hna: Not really, the BSOD is the direct result of the CPU being unstable at the lower voltage.
And as for nTune, I personally set up my profiles to only overclock my GPU when I need it (Steam or Badaboom opens). -
overclock is now sticking with nTune, i must have been doing something wrong. i am quite astonished that the temps almost are the same as before
should work on the undervolting. anyone with t5750 could help me use the same voltages? -
Due to the production variances that CPUs have, voltages that work on one CPU won't work on another, even if they're the same model, even if they're cut from the same sheet of silicon!
The only thing they'd do is give you a good starting point - the only way you'll find your stable voltages is through testing. -
Well, my first post here, but i'm pretty sure i'm posting in the right area, well, anyway, help me out here guys, i'm going freaking haywire over this.
A few days ago, I have formatted my hd, and I have reinstalled Windows 7 ultimate edition on my notebook. But now, i've got serious overheating issues, and before the format, everything was fine.
Now, I can't even play random flash games on my browser without reaching the absurd temperature of 90° in 20~30 minutes, and then it shuts itself down, the only reasonable thing that seems to be happening.
I have no idea of what's wrong, before, the max temperature i've got was 60~70°, after several hours of intense gameplay, why is the temperature so high now? I've tried to undervolt the cpu, got nowhere with it, I have a fan pratically on top of it, it still overheats.
What should I do? -
Did you clean out the fan intake? That'd be the only reason I can think of that the temps would spike so much with only the operating system change.
-
I did think of that but... Shouldn't the problem be there before the format, then?
-
probably u are using different drivers
-
Well, that makes sense... But the only driver that is different now is the 9500mGS one, i've updated it to a more recent one, but I tested the old one as well, still overheating...
-
Drivers alone would not cause the temperatures to act like that, especially since the CPU doesn't use any.
Post an HWmonitor screen capture here to help us out a little.
Are you using this laptop on your lap? A desk? -
As for the undervolting, I have a t5750 and FID at 6x I use 0.9500V and FID at 12x is 1.0250V. I just check the auto-adjust intermediate box. It works fine for me and keeps idle temperatures at ~18C and the highest I've seen it go is ~50C. -
LOLAGONS, there are tons of guides out there, including a few here on NBR. Do some Googling, and come back here if you have any further questions.
-
Ok, so here are the two screenshots:
Here are the first temperatures, before any gaming, the notebook was on for 5 hours or so, at that moment with only Firefox, RMClock and Windows Live Messenger.
And that is the screenshot I've got after no more than 15 minutes of Street Fighter IV. -
OK, that is not absolutely terrible; I would start panicking if your CPU got above 90 and your GPU above 95, even though those temps are elevated. And I refuse to see how formatting and installing Windows 7 would cause your system's temperatures to elevate like that when my system has been doing just fine.
I would seriously look into cleaning out the fan intake; the brain trust at Acer thought it'd be a good idea to put a mesh screen in front of the fan. Although it does a good job of keeping dust out of the copper grille the fan blows on, the screen itself gets clogged with dust, starving your fan of air. Unscrew the buttplate of your 6920G, and give that thing a good puff or two of compressed air.
(heck, I do that regularly...and I should do that tonight)
If that fails to bring temps down, look into replacing your thermal compound. There are tons of options and guides out there, and it really can help keep your temperatures under control. Heck, I've yet to see my GPU go over 80, even overclocked!
EDIT: Wait just a cotton-picking minute...your CPU managed to get to 80+ degrees without throttling? The 6920G is notorious for having a premature thermal trip at around 60 degrees Celsius. Mind opening up CPU-Z and posting what BIOS version you have? -
Well, I took the screenshot after I realized that the FPS in the game were starting to go down, I didn't actually wait until the notebook shut itself down so I would restart it and see the temperature, but, it does get higher. Not much, but, higher.
Maybe this version of Windows 7 is screwed up? I can see that happening. Anyway, I'll clean my fan intake for sure, and will get back with the results.
What honestly makes me nuts is the fact that the problem started from one hour to another, I mean, before the format, everything was just fine, and then, an hour later, the problem starts.
And yeah, I'm pretty aware of the throttling issues, hell, those have been a pain in the for too long. RMClock "fixed" them though, my BIOS is the same since I first bought the notebook, V1.10 version, according to CPU-Z, I'll only change it if I can't solve this overheating problem, haven't changed yet because I can't cope with it if it goes wrong. -
Goodness. Even though, it avoids Throttle, but, the temperature is crazy.
You gonna kaboom your AS6920G soon. Everything is overheated, included Motherboard, GPU, CPU, HDD and so on. In addition, you need to add 5C on the CPU Temperature on HWMonitor as it reads 5C lower than usual.
Cleaning work is needed. Unscrew the AS6920G. Take out FAN and stuffs. Vacuum the heatsink. Clean the mesh/filter/dust blocker.
Like Tehsuigi said, CPU-Z. XD
Windows 7 won't give you heat problem. Probably, your hardwares problem. Dust? or maybe the hardwares are loosely connected.
Try BIOS 1.14.
By the way, Tehsuigi, thanks for telling me about this. -
Lychnood, thanks for responding back quickly.
And yes, having your laptop restart or shut down due to temperatures is an immediate OH FART moment. At those temps, the throttling's supposed to happen because of the actual extreme temperatures.
If the fan intake's not clogged, check that the fan cable itself hasn't gotten dislodged by some fluke. That might also explain it.
Actually, you could also try reloading the ACPI tables into Windows 7. ACPI is what controls things like the fan, temperatures, and other power management stuff, and is read from the BIOS by Windows 7. Deleting the registry entries associated with ACPI (after making a System Restore point or backup, of course) should force it to re-read the data from the BIOS and get it working again.
Try deleting the keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\ACPI\DSDT\etc. first, then everything in ACPI\.
Good call on not changing the BIOS yet - that should be a line of last resort, especially because of what happens when things go wrong. -
And here's my feedback, sorry for taking so long to answer, but I wanted to make damn sure that the problem was, if not completely solved, at least, a little.
Anyway, here's a screenshot:
This is from 3 minutes after I closed SF IV, after 40 healthy and freaking satisfying minutes of gameplay. Just now, actually.
The temperature is still a little high, but not crazy stupid high anymore, and then again, I didn't had the undervolting activated and no fan on top of the notebook. And hell, today is being a pretty hot day.
Yesterday, right after I've cleaned the whole thing, I've had the fan on top of it, and I didn't get passed the 50°C after several hours of gameplay, so, I definetly think that the problem is gone. For now, anyway.
I was really surprised, I was expecting to see an obscene ammount of dust clogging, blocking and stopping everything, but the situation wasn't sooooo bad, or maybe it just doesn't take that much dust to wreck everything up, as I've seen these days.
I really doubted that the dust was the problem, since the issue had begun so... suddenly, and I've only cleaned this notebook of dust once in what, 1 year? That's not good.
Anyway, thanks TehSuigi and DarkSilver for helping me to make sure my notebook doesn't go kaboom. -
Good to hear - temps are looking FAR healthier now. 70s on the GPU and 50s on CPU are more or less par for the course on this system.
Not cleaning the inside in a year could certainly impede your system's cooling. It may have just gone over the tipping point to unsuitability coincidentally after the Windows 7 upgrade. -
A higher move will be reapply new thermal paste. XD
I think Tuniq TX3 Thermal Paste is the safest(non-electric conductive), cheapest and high-performance Thermal Paste for you.
It can slightly lower the idling temperature by 1-3C and the max load temperature by 4-7C. I haven't buy it yet(might buy it for my desktop instead LOL) because my CPU is idling at 36.5C-39C right now and it's max load temperature is only 54-55.5C. My room temperature is generally 24-26C.
By the way, the temperature looks good now.
It's without undervolt, so, it's OK. After you undervolt, probably, you will have like 6-10C lower than usual. -
So I did some poking around on the forums and tried overclocking my GPU with the nVidia control panel. I have it right now at core 600, memory 450 and shader 1400. I couldn't get ATItool to work because it said that it needs a driver certificate? Anyways I played borderlands for a good hour and a half and there were no artifacts. The nVidia monitor and HWmonitor both show that the GPU doesn't go over 56 degrees (when I alt-tab out of the game). Does this mean that its good and stable at this setting? Should I try to get more out of it? How do I know for sure I'm not damaging anything?
BTW my 3D mark 06 score is only 2182? -
The ATiTool driver isn't digitally signed, so it can't be installed in 64-bit Windows systems. It should run fine without it - the driver isn't needed for the stress test anyway.
Failing that, try FurMark.
What resolution are you running 3DMark at? What settings? What are the component scores of your system (SM2.0, SM3.0/HDR, CPU)?
