i'm undervolting at the moment and reached 1v. less than that (0.9750v) it bsod.
max temp reached is 59 and 61 (core 1 and 2), using orthos stress cpu. do you think that is enough to eliminate throttling?
i was wondering, could undervolting lead to a decrease in fps?
-
Seems like that'll be enough. The only way to find out is to game away (or try 0.9875 V).
Undervolting does not mean that your CPU is running slower - it forces it to use a lower voltage to do the same work. I do not have any FPS decreases in Audiosurf or Team Fortress 2. -
0.9875 V, no bsod after 15 mins orthos, at .9750 it too less than a minute to bsod. tommrow ill try a 3 hour test, and try some games.
-
I got to 1V on my T8300 - 0.9875V on the T8100 would make sense (if you ignore production variance, of course).
-
LOL. Many people misunderstand, thinking that Undervolt = Lower down Performance.
Undervolt is low voltage, it's not low performance.
Underclock is really slowdown performance.
It's strange that your C2D T8100 can't reach at least 0.95V.
My C2D T8100 can reach 0.925V and stable though. Max temperature of 54-55C. XD
Got people tell me that it's due to what Tehsuigi said and another 1 is aging of the CPU. The longer time it uses and passed, the more Voltage it needs. I am not sure if this is true.
EDIT:
My AS6920G Battery Mode Windows 7 Freezing strike back again even I have uninstall or install Intel Matrix Storage(latest for windows 7).
However, this time, it seems the problem got fixed by change the by changing AHCI Mode to IDE Mode in the BIOS setting.
Hopefully, it will not strike back again. -
DarkSilver, it mostly is due to the production variances - just as every GPU has a different overclocking tolerance, every CPU has a different tolerance for undervolting.
-
Maybe I am one of the lucky guy to get the 0.925V C2D T8100. -
lol i dont have t8100. i'm running a t5750 at 2ghz.
-
3 hours stress cpu using orthos, no bsod! max temp (59C and 62C) @0.9875V.
After undrevolting, do you think it is a good idea to disable the lower multipliers and keep the highest only (12x), so that it runs at max speed? because there is only a slight difference in voltage (0.9875 - 0.95) compared wih lowest multiplier (6x). if so, i just have to uncheck the lower multiplier in the performance on demand profile, and apply. right? -
Sounds about right, or you could unclick them on the Profiles page to disable them outright.
I personally tested my lower multipliers to get even further battery life, but it's up to you.
(and my mistake about the CPU mix-up; why not set up your system specs in your signature?) -
signature updated! and unclicked them on the Profiles page just like you said.
now i have another question, why is it that when i only keep the highest multiplier, that idle temp stays almost the same? in other words, does the clock speed heat the cpu? running at 6x or at 12x doesn't make a difference, meaning that cpu clock speed doesnt effect heat if it isnt on load. if that's right, what is the use of the low multipliers (if the voltages are very close)? -
CPU Load will affect the temperature harshly. Voltage is another thing which can affect the temperature heavily.
If you have a desktop, you can try adjusting the CPU to lowest speed with high voltage on it vs CPU at High speed with low voltage. The result will be CPU at low speed and high voltage is hotter than CPU at high speed with lower voltage. -
Voltage and load are what increase the heat emitted by a CPU.
It's just that speed seems to affect the heat because of SpeedStep - faster speeds require more voltage, hence more heat emitted! -
...and talking of temps. 2 weeks ago i set up a nice clean windows 7 rtm 64bit.
gradually loading all aps. only just got to loading everest and my main hd, Toshiba MK5055GSX (500GB) is running at a steady 49°Cthats only 6°C off the recommended limit. time to worry?
cpu and gpu are at 46°C and motherboard is 40°C.
the WD 320GB in the dvd bay and my external WD 320GB backup are at about 35°C.
rmclock is undervolting to 1.05V max. -
If it doesn't hit 50C, I think it should be OK. Some how, 49C is slightly higher than usual. Notebook HDD should be around 42-46C if not mistaken. Newer HDD(notebooks/desktops) have even lower temperature. -
big problem
having taken out the wireless cards and swapped them around couple of times i now have:
wireless card not being seen at all (in any os),
ethenet network not seen at all, no lights on when cable is plugged in,
dvd player and dvd bay hard disk not working, when the dard disk is plugged in i can here it spin up but nothing in device manager.
maybe some common power supply inside has gone or
anything else to try before it goes back for repair -
If you are sending it back for repair, I'd try to stuff as many original parts back in as you can.
Otherwise, they might not service it under the terms of their warranty. -
"under the terms of their warranty"
er..... that'll be the warranty that run out 2 months ago then
anyone want to take a wild guess at how much it will cost?
yes, all will go back as original, have to swap back the hard disk and clean back to standard vista -
Hi all,
I have ordered my new battery and would like to install windows 7 64 on it. Anything I should do or be aware of before I go ahead? Does the TV tuner still work with 7?
Can you actually buy acer extended warranty on a out of warranty notebook? -
Robustt - make sure to use the Realtek audio driver that came with your machine, the Vista one. Otherwise, the Tuba stops working. Oh, and the Dritek Launch Manager Vista version is better.
You should be able to buy the extended warranty - only one way to find out! -

HEY I HAVE A REALLY ANNOYING PROBLEM!
I loved using my Fingerprint reader. I also loved using my Cinedash touch console. I have recently wiped my drive of Vista Home Premium x32 to install Windows 7 Home Premium x32. I restored my drivers using a driver restore program which worked ok. Some of the drivers I updated from the Drivermax database, some from the Acer site. But 3 things remain unusable: Webcam, Cinedash and Fingerprint reader.
I installed Bio Protection but when it comes to clicking a blinking finger on-screen a message box appears saying "unable to detect fingerprint device!" arghh..
Cinedash worked ok after installing Launch Manger but the volume does not work in the correct proportions.. I could tap down even when the LED on the volume indicates it is at lowest volume but really it isn't. I have to watch the green words/indicator on my green.
I installed some sort of Crystal Eye program but launching the application only gets a message box saying "Camera not found!"..
I would appreciate some help =(
EDIT: I just felt like uninstalling the Biometrics Validity Sensor (fingerprint reader) driver and uninstalling the Bio Protection (manufactured by ABIG) software. Re-boot then windows automatically installed the Validity Sensors driver and I installed Bio Protection 6.2.39 (manufactured by Validity). I then run Bio Protection and all is now working for my fingerprint reader. =) -
As stated before in this thread, the Vista version of the Dritek Launch Manager from Acer's download site works best for the 6920G.
-
"I restored my drivers using a driver restore program which worked ok. Some of the drivers I updated from the Drivermax database, some from the Acer site. But 3 things remain unusable: Webcam, Cinedash and Fingerprint reader"
if you have not gone too far you could start again with a clean install.
the few drivers you need, that are not in windows 7 already, are available on acer site. you do not need 'a driver restore program' or any other driver database. the 3 you mentioned all work perfect with windows 7, 32 and 64 bit, with acer drivers. -
Hey guys does Throttling occur in Windows Xp?
-
Gazzacbr my 8 cell 4800mah battery has arrived today......How many hours per full charge should I expect out of it?
Thanks
R -
I used to get 3.5-4 hours of life on my 8-cell when it was new.
Now, I can squeeze 3 out of it; it's lost about 16000 mWh from full capacity since May 2008. -
I seem to have a problem with my new battery, it wont charge at all it remains on 0%
when the ac is disconnected the battery holds for a few second before turning off...
help
R -
Sounds like a dud battery to me.
Contact the company you bought it from. -
Its on its way back for a refund,
TehSuigi do you know of a reputable place to buy 6920g battery for the UK?
If I could buy direct from acer I would.
Thanks alot
R
Edit: Just called acer customer service have been quoted £127 ($206) for 8 cell and £73 ($118) for 6 cell
Does that sound like a fair price?
lap tops direct qouted me
6cell 5200 mAh 10.8v £65 ($105) brand: 2- power
8cell 4400 mAh 14.8v £68 ($110) brand: 2- power
8cell 4800 mAh 14.8v £79 ($128) OEM -
When it comes to something as crucial to a laptop's functionality as its battery, I'm willing to spend more and get it direct from Acer.
-
cant help really as i have only used it a few times but it seemed to be better than the original acer one. i only put it in when i need it now and just leave the original one (which lasts about 5 minutes now)
maybe not a fair test now as some of my lappy is not working ie. wireless, ethernet, dvd bay, card reader, all do not have power -
I am running 3DMark06 at the default settings on version 1.1.0 @ 1280x768. The results are
3DMark Score
2192 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score
842
SM 3.0 Score
775
CPU Score
1688
Also, I have my video card set at 615/465/1425 right now and when the laptop starts up, the screen briefly flashes black and then comes back again and a notification pops up from the system tray saying that the nvidia video driver has stopped working and has recovered. At the aforementioned settings, ATItool runs flawlessly for an hour. If I set my video card to anything lower than those settings, say 600/450/1400, it does not say that upon start up. Any idea what's wrong?
Thanks for the help! -
Wow, your scores are down big-time.
It looks like your system is exhibiting CPU throttling. Try downloading ThrottleStop and following the Definitive Guide to stop that from happening.
And the "Nvidia video driver stopped working" message is telling you the speeds are unstable. Remember, every GPU overclocks differently due to production variances. Stick to 600/450/1400. -
-
Well, you could try logging RMClock and GPU-Z data in the background during your 3DMark06 run. Check back to them, and you'll be able to see crucial things like temperatures and speeds.
Heck, for all we know your GPU is downclocking to keep cool! -
How far behind Nvidia is Acer at releasing video drivers? I want to install the latest one for the hardware acceleration of flash, but the version from the Nvidia website doesn't allow me to control screen brightness.
Does anyone have any idea on how to make the standard nvidia driver work (with adjustment of screen brightness), or will I have to wait for Acer to release an updated version? -
The 195 series have an acknowledged brightness issue with the 6920G; either wait for Nvidia to fix it, or use the previous notebook release 186.81 (like I am) and forego Flash acceleration.

HELLO Acer 6920G Crusaders!!!
Big Thank You for all this priceless advicE. GREAT JOB!!
Seeing that it is forum of individuals who are creative, imaginative and know more than I do I have humble request for advice.
I have 6920g T8300 @ 2.40GHz 4GB RAM and Blu-Ray Drive. As I am using my laptop for photo and video processing I wanted to take advantage of my 4 GB of Ram memory therefore installed Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. And I have a problem. Yes, as probably you already guessed it is my Optiarc Blu-Ray Drive...
In December, before Acer issued drivers for Win 7 I couldn’t make my machine to work properly therefore I’ve ONLY upgraded OS to Win 7 Ultimate 32bit and as it was upgrade machine keept all drivers and software (incl.: Acer Arcade deluxe etc.) and all worked fine. But now, having drivers I thought to squize all possible juice out of my 6920G and install 64bit version.
All is fine, only maybe problem with dashboard and remote but my Blu-Ray drive just become blind for BLU-RAY Discs. Just says there is no Disc in Drive! Wanted to upgrade firmware on Optiarc but as it is OEM version is not adviceble to do that as they say it can damage drive. Well, Ok, I’ve contacted Acer then for advice and here is what they say:
Hello, Thank you for contacting Software Support.
Regarding your enquiry,
You can only view blu-ray content on Acer Arcade Deluxe at the moment, and this application is default locked to Region A (Americas etc), therefore you need to open Acer Arcade Deluxe (do not auto-run the disc!) and go to “Advanced” (icon is 2 options to the bottom and looks like a group of boxes), then select “Settings” then select “BD”. In here, you can change the region of the drive to either A, B or C.
Note! You can only change the region 5 times before you permanently lock the drive – however, it does warn you of this on each change.
I’ve lost my Acer Arcade Deluxe installing new OS so I’ve looked for it here:
http://komku.blogspot.com/2008/05/download-acer-arcade-deluxe-for-windows.html
So i have ACER Arcade Deluxe now 2.0.5323 but still same problem
Video driver I am using is the one from Acer web site for Win7 64. Should I use any other one maybe?
I have PowerDVD as well, but as Arcade Deluxe just don't seem to recognize Blu-Ray Discs....
ANYONE ANY IDEA PLEASE!!!!! -
Hi Guys
I'm new here so have patience, OK?
I went through all this thread looking for ideas how to get my BD drive to see BD discs under new OS W7x64 and no luck.
Some of you say it is driver issue. Well I went through few of them as well as different software as PowerDVD or Acer Arcade Deluxe but have still same problems.
I have T8300, 9500M GS ad BD Drive.
Would any of you could let me know what is exact driver you are using with W7x64 and have no problem with BLU-Ray?
Cheers!!
Current Notebook:
Acer Aspire 6920G-834G32Bn
Core2Duo T8300 - GeForce 9500M GS - 320Gb HD - 4Gb DDR2 - BD-ROM/DVD±RW -
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit -
I've got almost the same configuration as you, Sandauer, but Blu-ray discs work happily for me.
In order to BDs to play (and possibly for them to even be recognized), you need three components:
- The most recent edition of Acer Arcade Deluxe. If you've downloaded the original version from komku, you need to get the update from Cyberlink, who makes the software.
- A WHQL-certified video driver. This has to come unmodified from either Nvidia directly or Acer; no Dox drivers or modded INFs allowed. I personally use 186.81.
- A WHQL-certified audio driver. I use the original Vista driver that the 6920G came with (still installs and works under Win7). -
Hi TehSuigi
Listen, Big THX for your reply. In situation I am at this moment it feels like whole hell is against me and one word of advice is priceless. Cheers!!
Yeah, it looks like we have same configuration! And you are telling me that your Optiarc 5500 A worked no problem after insatlling Win7x64? Or you did some tech-voodoo? Doh, sometimes I have this feeling that electronic stuff hates me! Anyone knows why? I bet my last ex would know answer for this question...
1/ Regarding AcerArcadeDeluxe from Komku, YES this is where i got it from. Unfortunately Komku says that it is 6 channel version with BD but somehow mine in only 2 channel with DVD but no BD. I did try to download from other mirrors, did all those 3 updates (2.0.5105 to 2.0.5312 to 2.0.5319 to 2.0.5323) but same thing. And since Monday I am trying to get any update on it but all this time it says NO UPDATE. I remember that before (when I had Vista or later update only W7x32) this update was very temperamental as sometimes for ages was saying there is no update avalible when I know for fact there was. So I try to be patient but...
I did use Cyberlink link suggested by you now and before but :
Thank you for using CyberLink's innovative products. Your software is already the most updated version. No need to update now.
Well, version 2.0.5323 is not the latest one is it...
2 & 3/ I did used those drivers recomended by Acer for W7x64 Ultimate on their web site. Will try now as you suggesting 186.81 and old audio. Lets see. Will get back tomorrow to let you know about my success/failure...
Cheers!!
p/s
somehow I think if only I could get this Arcade Deluxe updated to have there BD and 6 channels all would be OK. Is it possible that because wrong configuration (or whatever else?) while installing Arcade from Kemko it didn't installed BD only DVD? -
It didn't work out of the box; like I said, I wasn't able to play back Blu-ray discs without Arcade Deluxe on the machine. Once I installed the audio and video drivers and AAD, Blu-ray playback worked.
I've got version 2.5.7130 on my machine, so you certainly don't have the latest version. And even then, I've run into one case where a Blu-ray disc refused to work (the animated film 9). Try running LiveUpdate from within 2.0.5323, and see if that works; it did for me, but that was weeks ago.
I've got 2channel as my audio decoder, but that's because I've got my speakers set up as stereo output. Switching to 5.1 (simulated on the 6920G, of course) should change that. My AAD also doesn't explicitly say it's BD or DVD.
Not sure if the installer could misdetect your system configuration.
Just thinking, does Windows detect the Optiarc as a BD-ROM drive or a DVD+-RW drive? -
decided yesterday that my very sick lappy had to go for repairs. thread somewhere says that my wireless, ethernet, dvd drive bay and card reader all stopped working at the same time when i was swapping the dell 1410 wifi card with the intel (cant say why here ;-) )
i thought that i had shorted out something on the mainboard.
i had the lappy ready to go then thought that i should put back and old hard drive and change the wifi cards back to just the intel standad one.
after image recovering a spare hard disk the lappy would not start at all.
much time later and much confusion i put the old drive in and took out the intel card. it started ok.............................
and so did everything else.
some fault on the intel wifi card had caused all the other things to stop working, bad design or what? dell 1410 is working fine.
so i am happy now :-D -
does any of this driver have gestures?
