Party's over, folks. Swing by tomorrow to make sure you get whatever booze you didn't drink tonight...
Now, pressing matters - anyone else try the 1.16 BIOS?

Hello all,
I have a question about the batteries for a 6920:
I have an AS07B41 and it's dead. Acer has told me that they will replace it under warranty. Nobody in the RMA department, however, can tell me if i can replace the battery with the AS07B42, the 8-cell version of the battery and pay the difference.
Any ideas? The acer website doesn't even list the battery it came with as compatible.
Thanks!
EDIT: On the Acer USA website, i found a sheet with possible upgrades.
http://us.acer.com/acer/wr-resource/3663038810/upload/pent1/2/AS notebk netbk upgrades 2-4-10.pdf
This says that i can use the 6 or 8 cell battery. The part numbers it provides, however, are not the same as are on the battery. -
Is there a special waranty for the battery? Because I think mine is dead too
EDIT: look here : http://www.battdepot.ca/item/notebook+battery/lc.btp00.007/lac208.aspx. There is different name for the same item. But are you sure it will work? Some websites tells that it has a higher voltage. Isn't this dangerous? I know the AC adapter is 19V so maybe not.. -
If unsure on your warranty, you can check it here:
http://secure3.tx.acer.com/FindSystem/FindSystem.aspx?title=Information
The battery I will be purchasing in addition to the replacement battery:
Model: AS07B42
(secondary model: BT.00804.020 (Sony Cells))
14.8 V
4800 mAh, 71 Wh.
I get over 4 hours with this battery. (My brother bought an 8930, and this is the standard battery)
EDIT:
I have ordered the new battery from Acer. I'm now waiting for it to arrive.
My current battery shows a 68.8% wear level, even after calibration. I've had this lappy for about 6 months.
I wonder if this is something to do with the windows 7 battery fiasco. (no new developments in a month)
Also, I updated my BIOS, and I see no difference (yet.) -
here's my name OC:
GPU Clock: 625 MHz 485 MHz 1450 MHz
Runs fine with 186.82, temps same as 625/1425/475.
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/3v4yq/ -
here's my 3dmark06 score. dont think it can get higher (4797) with my specs:

Mine was at 33% this morning after a power failure. I tried to use all of the battery because some website tells that it helps to do it sometime. I thne saw that it lasted about 5 min then got to hibernation or sleep I don't know, sudently. I'm pretty sure it wasn't even at 80%. After I charged it again it said it was at 25%.

Hi, I just got a 6920G with T8300, 4GB samsung ram, 320GB hdd, full hd lcd mon. Anyone have encounter where the laptop locks up all of a sudden ? Sometimes it doesn't have any problem at all while sometimes it locks up all of a sudden ?
Not sure if it's related to this, if i run DMC4 demo, sometimes it will show BSOD with memory parity error, other times just goes blank with the audio repeating. Only way to solve this is to hold the power button and reboot the laptop.
I also tried running prime, almost 24 hours, then furmark 24 hours. Even tried runnin both but just for around 3 hours.
I'm suspecting the hdd is the culprit as I already changed the ram with 1gb, 2gb and also same prob.
Any suggestions guys ? -
Say, I got a question for any 6920G users with Win7.
Have you guys run the Display Calibration wizard yet, and if so, did you have to crank your gamma all the way down too? -
-
Possibly - all I know is, turning it down seemed to help things a bit.
The 6920G's got a fantastic screen; I just want to make sure mine's calibrated properly. -
I didn't change anything too

Anyone else on nvidia drivers 195.62? i updated this morning.. when i tried playing a blu ray disc it isnt working.. i havent tried watching a bluray movie in a while so i dont know if its drivers or something else. i tried updating acer arcade deluxe but it didnt solve the problem
-
Yes, you really DO need a WHQL-certified driver to get Blu-ray playback working. Blu-ray is finicky like that and requires the Protected Video Path in Windows Vista/7 to work, and that requires a WHQL-certified driver.
@camote: I haven't budged from 186.81 - tried 195.62 and found it had broken my brightness controls. -
Oh yeah i hadn't noticed that i can't control my brightness anymore either.. i was under the impression that having been officially released by nvidia, there shouldn't have been any compatibility problems.. apparently i was wrong haha
i guess ill be going back to 186.81 too. -
Do you know if I could configure a universal remote to work with the laptop. If have an infrared receiver. If you have another solution below 40$ I may be interested too(some website sells the "official" remote for around that price).
-
I've gone back to 186.81 but i'm still having blu ray playback issues.. i can't remember having installed anything else that could be significant... what do you guys think it could be?
-
D'you have the latest version of Acer Arcade Deluxe? Grab it from here.
What about your audio drivers? Those WHQL too? -
yup i just did an update.. how do i check if my audio drivers are whql? but i dont remember updating them since the last time my blu ray playback had been working
thanks for the help! -
im having the same problem as you too camote. my bluray used to work but now when i put in the bluray disc.... the drive just doesnt read nor even spin the disc.
-
Then in that case, camote, it should work.
-
Anything for my problem?
-
The universal remote? Not a clue. Sorry!

Regarding the BIOS:
I haven't noticed any difference other than the serial number/service number in bios were erased. I also had to re-activate windows 7 due to a "hardware change"
EDIT: Looked at the size of the files, Why is the new bios file so much bigger? (I hate that Acer provided no documentation with the update.) -
Guys, I'm here again, trying to find another solution for a diferent problem. A much worst one.
Well, this one is a bit complicated, I'll try to explain as best as I can:
My notebook either freezes completely or resets itself up after I plug the AC adapter on it.
Now, I've been trying to search around for something to shed a light on that, and, the best I've come across is simply a plethora of reasons to why this is happening. But, hopefully, the fact that this doesn't happen on safe mode and the fact that I've just formatted (not more than a few hours ago, in fact) the whole thing, may help narrow down the number os reasons that might be responsible for this...
Anyway, does anyone have a clue? I'm about to go nuts here. -
@lychnood:
What OS are you using, and is it the 32 or 64 bit version?
You said that you just performed a reinstall, did you install all of the drivers for your operating system from the Acer website? -
And, yeah, all the drivers came from there, except the vga and sound driver ones. But, I don't think the issue lies there, I used those same drivers even before the problem came to happen.
Ok so, adding some more information regarding the problem:
- It has frozen even on the W7 install, for god's sake, on the install! Had to do it on battery, otherwise would just be impossible...
- Before the format, the problem would occur mostly, (if not only), when the pc was idle, that is, not doing anything that would require some 'effort' from the machine. When I was gaming, everything was fine, when foobar was open AND playing some music, it was fine as well, but, leave it alone for 5~10 minutes, with only the uTorrent open, for example, and it would shut down or freeze. Now, after the format, that time frame seems to have gone much smaller, a few minutes ago, I JUST plugged the damn thing and it resetted. -
What happens when you power it up with it plugged in and no battery? Does it get past the POST?
Try to restore the BIOS to the defaults (under the exit menu)
More troubleshooting:
Boot off of a live cd of some sort and see if it still freezes up when you plug it in. That will eliminate if it is an issue with windows 7.
PM me for my chat details. -
If I remove the battery and leave only the power cord, it freezes too.
And, following your recomendation, I've restored the BIOS to it's defaults... Got no luck with that either.
And, as for trying to boot with a different cd, other than W7... I have no cd here with me that can do that, I'm downloading Ubuntu in any case. What sucks is that the problem started from one day to the other, I was a happy user of Windows 7, and then...
And, I have also tried to disable the ACPI thing on the Device Manager, read somewhere that it might be a workaround the problem. Didn't work either.
Thinking about it now, I think the question is, what the hell is loaded even on the Windows installer, but not on the safe mode? The fact that it works on safe mode, makes me believe that it isn't a hardware issue. That, and also all the diagnostics that I have run so far... So, the problem is in something that gets loaded along the way, but hell, what gets loaded on the Windows installer and on the regular boot that can cause such a problem? -
A couple more questions:
What happens when you plug in the laptop before you turn it on?
Are your power settings set-up adversely?
(max processor state when plugged in should be set to 100%, Min should be 0%)
EDIT: We will continue this via PM's, but let you know of the outcome. -
If I plug the notebook before I turn it on, it boots, goes as far as the logon screen, and freezes usually just after that. Just after I logged in the system.
As for the power settings, they were configured differently over here, and, it doesn't show the two options, "On Battery" and "Plugged In"... Weird, it should show 'em two, shouldn't it? It just shows one, "Settings", and, for all the 3 plans, they were set at 5%, now, they're on 0%.
It was because I was running on safe mode, got back to the normal mode, and everything was there. And they're now, just like the screenshot you posted.
EDIT: Sorry, didn't see the edited message. -
I experience stutter and frame rate drop after about 40 minutes of gaming. Something is triggering the gpu to slow down my GPU, the clocks become half the amount they were before (like low 3d). After the GPU drops in performance it stays there unless I restart my computer. this is not related to cpu downclocking because i'm running throttlesop. more info in my sig.
the weird thing is that i ran orthos+furmark, the temp reached 87, and the clocks remained constant without throttling. but when i play a game, even though the temps reach about 70, it throttles. -
anyone thinks it's a good idea to flash vga bios with modified low 3d clocks? could anything go wrong?
-

I'd try stepping back on your overclock first before going for the vBIOS edit.
-
you know i'm really sick of all the throttling this laptop had. the cpu throttling is gone thanks to TS. so now (maybe because it's hotter where I am) i have gpu throttling issues with OC, so i really would not want to go through testing clocks. the clocks i have now are perfect. that's why i want a solution that's guarantees 100% non throttling.
am i correct by setting the values above in throttling field?
so after the bios edit, do you recommend anything? like loading a lower clock profile at startup, and run another for games? -
ok so i flashed the new bios with above clocks. While windows is booting, the logo start flickering and it bsod'd (dumping some nvidia sys file). i restored the old bios and everything worked like before.
so i'd better lower the clock as you recommended and forget about vbios edit. any other recommendations? -
i have an idea. can i edit the throttle clocks using a software? AFAIK, ntune or evga precision doesnt support this.
-
update: i forced a constant level performance using rivatuner. instead of idling at about 45 degrees, now it idles at 50. i think that's okay, right? i still haven't tested it as i have no games installed atm.
-
hna, please just edit previous posts instead of making a new one with each update.
Your idle temps are fine - I sit in the mid-50s myself. -
BIOS 1.16 is no longer available on Acer Support site for some reason.
Anyone using it noticed any problems?
Something new is probably coming our way soon... -
oh, wait a minute, you said its coming from acer support -
Question:
I've reinstalled windows quite a few times and even though I go on the Acer website to get all the proper drivers, I can never get my webcam program to work again. I mean, it works if I use it for video chat via MSN or something but the "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam" program itself always says "Camera not found" whenever I try to just open it up and use it. Has anyone found a solution to this yet?
Thanks in advance. -
@LOLAGONS: ok you reinstalled windows a few times but it would have been quicker to search this site or google your problem as it has been mentioned here before
i also never got mine to work but Debut capture is free and (unlike acer) it works http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/ -
Mine works fine. Did you try the driver that came with it for vista. Go look in C:/Acer/preload/autorun/DRV for it
-
Strange - my Crystal Eye webcam worked out of the box on Windows 7, no extra driver required.
-
Regardless, thanks a lot for the alternate solution. I will try it out! -
Power Management Mode missing in Nvidia control panel even though i am using the latest 197.16 anyone knows why?
