Hey folks. I'm new here as you can tell. Anyways, I'll get to the point.

I've had an Acer Aspire 6920 for about 2 years. Here's the thing:
    1) I had to send it back to Texas (from Florida) while it was still under warranty, because there were cracks forming on the bezel near the screws (They're back too, grrr. Got some cracks on the bottom too! Sheesh). When I received it back from Acer, it appeared that the speaker grille and the keyboard were not properly put back. I snapped them back in, and since then, It appears that the function for the lid closing no longer works (as in, when I close the lid on the laptop, nothing happens.) I have checked the settings and they have not changed. How might I fix this or diagnose the problem? I removed the speaker bar, and couldn't figure out where the thing is that I need to fix. Any pictures/assistance would be helpful.
    2) My EGIS drive (PSD) no longer appears where it used to (the help bar, I think it was called.) I checked the settings on this as well, but nothing has changed.
    3) Are there any free performance mods for this notebook? I'm pretty sure I read that this system can't be overclocked. Confirm/deny?
    Thanks folks.

Hi Kaelang, and welcome to the forums!
I relocated your post to the 6920 Owner's Lounge, where more people will see it and be able to help you (plus, less clutter on the boards).

What is an EGIS drive? Can't say I've heard of it?

Although the CPU can't be overclocked, if you've got the 6920 G with an Nvidia GeForce, the GPU certainly can be! Just get the latest driver from Nvidia.com and Nvidia System Tools, and go have some fun!

The EGIS drive came with my computer. It has all sorts of security enhancements, including the PSD (Personal Secure Drive, I think) that can be hidden. EGIS also allows me to encrypt files for password protection.

I have the 6920-6621- Intel integrated graphics. :(

Ah, I see. My deepest condolences for being saddled with an Intel GMA X3100.
Here's a thought for the EGIS drive - try right-clicking on the taskbar, and see if it's listed under Toolbars.
If not, try clicking the Notification Area option when you right-clicked the Taskbar, and click the Customize button next to Hide inactive icons. It's possible that Windows Vista is automatically hiding the EGIS icon for some reason.

Then again, it's also possible that the Acer techs did a full system restore on your system and wiped out the EGIS driver. Unlikely, but still possible.

Heh. Yeah, I wish I payed attention to the graphics chip that I was getting. Oh well.
The PSD is the only thing that appears to be malfunctioning- it's been working, up until a few weeks ago (the laptop was sent in under warranty a little over a year ago). I'll mess around with the settings a bit more, but it's got me baffled.

And any idea as to where the sensor for the lid is located?

hmm, maybe my answer was misleading. yes, mine worked out of the box also, but the utility program, for snaps and recording, which was hidden in windows somewhere, did not. LOLAGONS did say it worked for msn etc.

1st.I have some cracking on sound when listening to music. It's very annoying, and i have tried changing the sound drivers and still no go.

2nd.Since my laptop came from warranty(because it wouldn't boot),my web cam is NOT recognized on the device manager,or anywhere!and Also the Acer LOGO on the back of the laptop doesn't light up anymore :(

3rd.Could you tell me what are the drivers for the touch sensitive panel?

    1. It might be the TUBA bass booster. I noticed mine was crackling, so I turned it down in the settings and it's gone.
    2. That's something I can't help you with. I would check for drivers, at least for the webcam. I think the problem with the logo is that Acer didn't put the computer back together properly, as what happened in my case... never sending my laptop to Texas ever again. =S
    3. The CineDash control panel? Hm. I would check Acer's website, because I don't recall a driver for that.

    Thank you for the answers.

The craking is on the sound itself,it happened to you as well?It can't be an hardware fault, beacause i hear it on my 5.1 speakers as well.

Yeah, the cinedash volume control is not working properly,i thought it needed some drivers since i formated the laptop..

When I got the laptop, I had issues with the CineDash. Have you tried to shut off the computer, pull out the battery, and wait a bit?

It's almost impossible to distinguish the difference between the TUBA and regular speakers. I would recommend you still mess with the sound settings and see what happens.

Turn down the subwoofer volume in the sound properties.
(I am using the driver from Acer's website)

sounds like they didn't put it back together correctly. PM me with your email if you would like specific instructions.

Unplug your laptop and remove the battery. Keep it out for ~30 seconds. I push the power button, (habit) then reinstall the battery. The drivers for the mediadash console are built into the Launch Manager application. If the console doesn't light up at all when the laptop is powered on, it was not reinstalled correctly.

    Good Luck!

    Thanks for the help guys.

But the sound problem is on the output sound as well.when i connect my 5.1 speakers to the 3.5mm jack i hear it as well.it's not the subwoofer, altough i tried to lower it down, it still does the same.

Does it occur with all sounds? Check to make sure that bass boost is turned down or off. Also, make sure the total output volume is not too high. The higher the volume is, the higher the distortion.

I noticed that after charging fully the day before and shutting it down, when i turned it on the next day the battery had drained to 75%. After i reverted to 1.14, the problem went away.

EDIT: I'll have to check the new graphics driver and see if that fixes the brightness problem for me.

    Hello all,

I finally got my replacement battery from Acer, only to find that it's a lower model than the one I have right now! I have the AS07B41 currently. They shipped me an AS07B31. It has a lower voltage than my current battery and i'm not too happy. I think I will write a letter (snail mail) and let them know of my disappointment. Any ideas of someone i could email instead?

    Thanks,
    Jared

The 1.16 bios is available again on the Acer site...just flashed it

Also there's a new driver for the Launch Manager available.

It's good to have the media console on the left hand side of the machine working again properly :D

    Hi guys,

I had a problem with my sound which i can only discribe as a rumbling sound when listening to music. To fix this issue go to speaker properties, click on the advanced tab and then set to CD quality not 24bit sound.

Just thought i would share that incase anyone else had the same issue.

So far 16bit sound is working, that would be a great news if it really solves the problem.

Now I have one with the keyboard. Sometimes it seems to misses keystrokes. I have no problem on other computer. There's no special key that does it. On linux if I remember correctly, instead of for exemple a missed "e", a couple of typed letter would output "e". I didn't try another keyboard, that's something i'll have to do

The sound problem is still there.

Is there any guide or tips on how to flash the bios on 64bit? Maybe that would solve the keyboard problem, I still have 1.06. I read there was a 64bit version of winphlash: verion 1.0.2.5 . Is it safe to use a version coming from somewhere else than with the files?

Please see my post Here regarding the sound crackling. Have you tried that?

I don't think the BIOS will fix any problems with the sound. I am using 1.14 and have been happy with it. When I flashed to 1.16, I had a battery drain problem and it wiped the asset id, serial, etc. from the bios. I simply copied the 64 bit program into the directory provided by acer so it kept all of the settings. PM me if you would like the setup I used.

My sound is rarely to the maximum, so no it doesn't help. And the bios was for the keyboard issue. But are you telling me that you what to send me the setup that wiped data from your bios? Aren't these usefull? If no damage was done, i'd like to have it yes. I prefer using the 64x one than trying to boot from something else. And can it be flashed from windows safe mode?

No damage to the bios was done other than erasing the asset id. I had a bad battery drain, but that was with a deleted version of the 1.16 bios. I'm not sure if that would fix the keyboard issue, either. I would recommend taking out the keyboard, re-seating the cable, and reinstalling it to see if that would help with missed keystrokes. You can also buy a new keyboard on ebay for about $20. If you want the 64-bit winphlash, PM me and i can get that sent to you.

Serial number of bios was erased and I had to activate windows again by phone, but the keyboard problem is still there. To add to the information, sometimes, the letters takes some time to appear, as if it lagged.

Do you have a USB keyboard on hand to test? That would narrow it down between all input or just the internal keyboard. If anyone else on this forum is near Montreal, they might be able to lend you another internal keyboard to try out. I'm in Utah, USA, so i'm not of much good with that.

I don't know when started this issue...

When I plug the HDMI to HDMI cable to my LCD TV (LG M237WA), the monitor is not recognized, even if I use the WIN + P combination....

I'm running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate with nVidia 197.16 driver.

I've done a clean install of Windows 7, but the issue remains....

    Any idea to solve this?

PD: I used to plug and unplug the HDMI cable before without any problem when I wanted to watch movies or doramas or tv series.

    Hello everyone?
Seems like this thread has been idle for sometime..
does anyone still using this laptop model? lol..
I had some problems with it lately - random restarts, its like having someone pull out the AC adapter, but strangely it only occurred with the AC adapter attached, otherwise the laptop would boot & works fine with the battery only mode.. I checked the fan, temps, hdd.. they all seems fine.
can someone enlighten me regarding this issue?..

Try running a "burn-in" program. run one test at a time. If you're checking the memory and it crashes, that's your problem. If it crashes under high cpu load, the Motherboard may be bad.

    Thanks for you suggestion..
I just tried using P95 large fft for the CPU, ran them for 15 minutes and temps hover around 50+ (monitored using Coretemp), nothing crashed or BSOD, I also ran GPU burn in tool (forgot the name- but it looks like a fur cube) simultaneously with P95, for 15 minutes as well, slightly higher CPU temps, GPU stays around 60+ C.. but no crashes.. but not long after I let the system idle it shutdown
I also heard someone mentioned about a problem with the wiring of the AC adapter port, wires may be loose causing shorts, or open circuit- who knows?..I changed to my backup AC adapter with a slightly lower rating but nothing seems to be curing this random shutdown problem.. perhaps I should dismantle to take a look inside. :D
