RivaTuner 2.09 still doesn't recognize my clocks properly, and also does the whole downclock-core-by-1-MHz each time I tweak it, but how's this for a 3DMark06 run - 3828!
Gonna play some TF2 and Audiosurf to see if it's still stable there.

It stayed around 66 degrees, but that was with my room fan trained on my laptop.
And in practical use, it barely made a change, if at all.
I'm personally returning to stock clocks and removing RivaTuner - with all the problems with GeForce cards recently, the last thing I need is to be my laptop's undoing.

Just because I don't run the system that way anymore doesn't disqualify it. ;)

Crysis Warhead runs great on GAMER settings, on my 6920G. And this because I'm also running uTorrent and other disk intensive applications, I believe that with some optimizations and a little overclocking for the GPU, we could run it on maximum settings.

I got 7 fps in mainstream. So it went back to the store.

It barely runs great at Gamer settings on SLI rigs so you must have a golden sample 6920G.

That is a tiny bit higher than stock on my 6920G so I think your overclock is just a software glitch.

OK, now this is officially weird - my CPU is running at 74 degrees, and isn't downclocking like it normally does at 70.
Something has changed here. Maybe instead of it being the CPU that overheats, it's another thermal zone that trips the downclocking, probably from the GPU being used as well.
    I'll keep looking into it.

EDIT: After it downclocked again while encoding video below 70 degrees, I decided to play around in RMclock and try some ideas out. It turns out that the problem is Intel's Thermal Monitor 1 trip gets set off - TM2 doesn't cause a problem. And on top of that, turning TM1 off then back on again once above 70 degrees doesn't set it off immediately.
Is it possible the rapid heat increase of my CPU triggers a false positive or something?
I dunno - what I do know is that I can play TF2 again without having my room's fan on my system. ^_^

Going to RMClock's Advanced page, and unticking the Thermal Monitor 1 box.
Just make sure to keep an eye on the temperature and leave Thermal Monitor 2 on - disabling TM1 means that your CPU is running out of designed specifications.
Gonna test with TF2 later tonight.

EDIT: Okay, that was a failure. Even disabling ALL thermal protection still wound up with me having a throttled system. It's almost as if Acer has programmed this unit to be a bloody wimp. I give up. The room fan's back on my system again.

PM or something and tell me what your doing because i cant beleive it!
I have a 6920G and I want to play crysis on gamer settings with DECENT FPS :(
all i get is crap preformance, i tried EVERYTHING, so no "check for high performance battery mode" or "IS it DC'ing" there are no appereant problems i dont get it!

I ain't no gamer, that's why I got a high end notebook with only a 9500M GS. But the performance of it in the games is quite good (I only play Command & Conquer, Crysis Warhead was installed just for some testing).

P.S. It is not even a highly tuned system, everything is on default, the operating system (Vista x64 SP1) has all the services on default as well...

P.P.S. OmarM, I have no reason to lie, believe me. If I wanted to tell you about how bigger the FPS is, I would have bought a Clevo with some 8800 GTX or so, the price was quite similar, about 2500+ US dollars.

The T9300 is 2.5 GHz on a faster front side bus (800 MHz vs. 667) with 4MB more Level 2 cache. That FSB difference might be causing the gap in FPS.

Hey can you give me the store location/name of the employee who got you the deal for $999.96? I was going to get the same thing, but they will generally meet lower deals if you give them proof of a lower deal. The price on the site was $1104.

Axelo, we've covered this topic a few times already. Make sure you search the forums before posting, please!

To test your Tuba subwoofer, play some music, then right-click on the Volume icon and open up Playback Devices. Highlight Speakers, then click Properties, click to the Levels tab on the new window, and play around with the Internal Subwoofer level. If your Tuba is working, moving it all the way to the left should make your music sound like it's coming out of tiny earphones, while moving it back to the right should flesh it out again.

You'll need the Acer Launch Manager utility to bring back the Fn key stuff. If you burned your Drivers & Utilities disk, use it off there - the utility is compatible with XP and Vista.

As for the temps, I found that most utilities read the temperature about 15 degrees lower than what it actually is. Use RealTemp to verify that. If that's the case, your CPU cores are at 36 and 29 degrees - very reasonable.

    Hi,

I just joined the group, and have read through all of the pages, but I have a question that remains unanswered, which is: What is the latest driver for the nvidia 9500M GS (for Vista 64 Bit), and where do I get it? I have read a number of postings with release numbers of 176.xx, 178.xx, and 179.xx. My release is 174.92 (the 174 is right, the .92 could be off by a couple of digits). I also read about the laptopvideo2go.com having drivers that are newer than the ones on the Acer website, or the FTP site. Downloaded the latest driver (180.43), but I can't tell if the modded .inf file will work with the 9500M. Has anybody tried this?

I'm not a heavy gamer, but the 9500M GS is running a lot slower that I think it should, and I know that Vista's Aero interface loads the graphics chip down. Still, I believe that there is much more performance available with newer drivers.

    Welcome to the forums, Kkritsilas!
You'll always be able to find the latest driver for your GPU at LaptopVideo2Go - they tend to mention the newest one on the front page. Currently, it's 180.43.
The modded INF is specifically made to allow any modern GPU to use any driver, regardless of its original intention - you should have no problem with it.

Also true - if you want Blu-ray compatibility, stick to the ones with WHQL certificates.
In that case, you've got exactly three options - 174.74, 175.61, or 176.37.

    Matmat07 & TehSuigi:

Thanks for the information. I would like to retain the Blu-Ray functionality, so I guess I will need to chase down the 176.37 release on laptopvideo2go.com. Is there any performance increase that is noticeable?

Anybody know why Acer is so far behind the nVidia driver releases? Seems like they are 6-8 releases behind, at least.

I actually saw a performance decrease in 3DMark06 and gaming when I switched over to 176.37. 175.61 seems to be the sweet spot for my machine.

Acer's not exactly "behind" Nvidia - it's just Nvidia releases so many drivers for so many ODMs. If the guys at LV2Go didn't modify the drivers to run on any machine, you'd be looking at a far smaller selection depending on your model.

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum, so hi everyone!

OK, my question is: I saw this ad on craigslist, where the price for the 6920g is too low and the specs too good, and I'm wondering if its a scam, any help is appreciated.

NEW ACER 6920G LAPTOP WITH BLUERAY

    Quick Specs:

    Intel T8100 2.1Ghz Core 2 Duo CPU
    16" Full HD 1920x1080 8ms LCD
    4GB DDR2 667 Memory
    320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
    BlueRay Disc / DVDRW Drive
    Built-in 6-in-1 Card Reader
    Bluetooth + Fingerprint Reader
    Acer Crystal-Eye Cam
NVIDIA Geforce 9500GS 512MB Dedicated Video
    Dolby Surround Speakers with Mini-Subwoofer
Vista Ultimate Retail (64 and 32bit) - 64 bit installed

A very good gaming / multimedia laptop.

Any lower offers will be ignored. This retails for twice my asking price.

Well, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is, but since you didn't include the price in your post, we can't really pass judgement on it.
Keep in mind that my sig rig cost me $1100 when I bought it.
