I had 3533 as my best before my CPU upgrade, and 3636 as my top score after it.

Don't forget that the cpu counts in 3dmark, that why there is a big difference in number

In CQ's case, that extra 3MB of L2 cache must be making the difference.
    Would running 64-bit Windows & 3DMark06 make a difference?

It would depent on how much ram your system has. I'm not sure if it would affect the cpu's rating though.

Nope, 3DMark06 score is highly GPU related. 3DMark01 was that who made CPU matter indeed. Here, all I can say that with a better CPU, you get better graphics, maybe because the results are drawn back by the CPU. That's kinda strange, 9500M GS is not that powerful, to be in this position, with a T8300, for example.

I said it before, this is weird. Because 9500M GS is not a powerful GPU, that's being drawn back by the CPU, especially in the T8300 vs. T9300 comparision.

    Hi,
i've had my 6820 for few weeks now. had initial nightmares with pre-loaded vista 32 and acer crapware, sorry bundled software. i could not load or install of add/remove partitions and was on the point of returning it  as a last measure, did a complete format and clean install of my old copy of vista 64. used drivers from acer and all was well. now also have a trial version of server 2008 and old,old faithful xp sp1, booting all 3 with acronis os selector. now i am very happy with it :) 1 good word for acer for having all drivers online. i will try to install clean vista 32 from my company using the acer number to register (job for a rainy day)
i use the xp for games and have just tried forceware 180.44 but not sure if i now have some lagging (briefly tried GTR2 and FarCry 2) seat-of-the-pants feel, no figures. Are there any performance figures for the nVidia drivers? is there a standard program to test for gaming? i could run some tests here.
    ps i have T8300 2.4Ghz, 4GB ram and 9500M GS, 1920x1080

i will set that running later.
how safe do you think it is to OC the graphics card? is this a software thing which you can just turn on/off or something more permanent?

Hi Gazzacbr, I bought a wired XBOX360 Controller, I was thinking of buying the wireless version but as it was to be used with my notebook I didn't though that was necessary to buy it... and I don't have to spend money in batteries and chargers...

Now I´m playing Assassin's Creed and it's a totally different experience against keyboard+mouse combination....
Then I planning to play Devil May Cry 4, Halo2, etc....
I think that for FPS it is best the keyboard+mouse combo....

    Thanks and enjoy your rig.

Not quite. The WHQL certificate given with the drivers only works on certain desktop cards. If you use the modded INF to install on your notebook, you will lose the WHQL certificate.

There are a wide variety of drivers that have WHQL for Acer 9500M GSs.
Some are on LV2Go, others are on the Acer FTP, even in other model directories.

    No problem, RnC.
In that case, look for something with WHQL in your graphics card!
Open up Device Manager, right-click on your GeForce 9600M GT and hit Properties.
Click to the Details tab, and pick Hardware IDs. The one that includes "DEV_" and "SUBSYS_" is the one to look up on LV2Go.

    Hello all

I happen to have made a post about my GPU and PU downclocks in other forum and have been recommended here. I actually managed to solve my CPU problem with Tehsuigi's assistance, by undervolting. My GPU problems, however, remain the same. I did some search and the only solution I found was to disable powermizer in the OS registry. I haven't read of any 6920 owner that tried this, though, so I wondered if anybody here could give me some light as to how could I solve this problem, and if this powermizer tweak really does the job or the 6920 (and if there are any side effects).

    Thanks

Excuse me but my english it not that good and as i was suspecting that Costelush is romanian , a
i adressed him directly. In fact th problem is that i own an Acer As6920G-934G32Bn notebook
with Windows Vista Ultimate licence but they didn't give me the DVD with the operating system
,neither the ACER drivers or the applications.
As i reinstalled the Windows i lost the partition with the windows recovery
and i wanted to ask Costelush to help in this matter with a "CD/DVD recovery factory default".
Excuse me if that bothered you and thank you for your understanding.

Papagalus, let this be a lesson to you.
ALWAYS burn your recovery discs as soon as you get your machine!
Acer doesn't supply the discs - they ask you to burn your own using the eRecovery tool.

Alternatively, visit the Acer Euro FTP to download all the apps and drivers you need.

Bump for help - can someone with a 6920G and a screwdriver do me a favour?
Could you open up your Wifi card compartment (bottom-left), and tell me which colour wire is connected to the top spot?
I fear I may have mixed them up when I did my CPU upgrade a while ago.

On mine the black wire is nearest the front of the laptop (the front being where the SD slot is) with the white wire further away.

Irritatingly, the middle antenna point is unused - but it will be soon!

...so I've got mine backwards (I put the white wire on the near side of the card, and black on the far side).
Might explain why my Internet performance has been on-and-off sketchy.

You're welcome....and thanks for getting me to look in there - I've added a third antenna to the wifi card, something which can only help wireless performance and at next to no cost :) !

Now if I can just resist the temptation to try and populate the empty slot/space beside the wifi card :D !!!

    Hi,

I am considering the replacement of the 6920's hard drive (currently a WD 3200BEVT, 320GB, 5400 RPM) with a 320GB, 7200 RPM drive (Seagate or WD) to improve performance. I would like to ask opinions of the group on the following questions:

    1. Is there a noticeable increase in performance? As performance improvement is the reason for this, is the performance increase swamped out by a bottleneck somewhere else in the system?

    2. How do you change the hard drive? I have opened up the bottom panel of the machine that covers the hard drive, memory modules, and video card (a very large panel indeed). I couldn't see any mounting plate for the drive, and its seemed to be covered up in what appears to be thick aluminium foil. Is the mounting hardware under the aluminium foil?

    3. If anybody has changed to one of the 7200RPM drives, have you noticed a decrease in battery run time?

    Kostas

hm, let's see, better performance? yes, more noise and lower battery life? yes, does it pay off? I don't think so. I'm using an SSD in mine and am very happy with it (it does not work up to it's rated speeds but is noticeably faster than a 5400rpm HDD) and it also doesn't make any noise and extends my battery life (didn't do any particular tests yet)

all in all, I wouldn't go for a 7200rpm, just not enough performance increase compared to 'consequences' IMO =)

Guys, I`ve got 6920G for 4 months and I love it. But let`s be honest...driver support sucks!!!
I need help and I`m desperate.
Since I got this laptop I`ve been having problems with the Video card (NV GF 9500m GS). Runs everything I`m trowing on it, but not quite. Wile playing some games the video card just stops working. At the beginning I just updated the drivers, but the problem continued. Temperatures are OK - max 60C.
The problem is that I cannot update the drivers. No mater what driver I download it just says that there is no device compatible for this driver. The bad thing is that I just uninstalled completely the drivers. And now I just cannot install any driver...
    Please help me!!!
Am I doing something wrong? How am I supposed to install the video card again?
    This is horrible...
    I need help!!!

Fluff, where are you getting these drivers from?
The thing is, Nvidia drivers come with a .inf file that specifies which graphics cards it can be installed on.
Drivers from Acer should have support right out of the box.
Drivers from other sources likely won't, and thus will give the "no device compatible for this driver" error.
If you're getting them from LaptopVideo2Go, make sure you download the Modded INF from the driver topic, and overwrite the INF included with the driver package with it. That should make it work.

If worst comes to worst, go back and install 174.51 or 175.61 from Acer's official FTP server.

    Thank you, guys!!!
I installed the 174.51 from Acer`s FTP. I didnt know the Modded INF thing before. I`ll definitely try newer drivers.
Yes, at the beginning I downloaded drivers from LaptopVideo2Go. Obviously it was my mistake.
With which drivers do you have best performance?
    Thank you again!!!

well, everything is considerably faster, and maybe it would be even faster if I had a better CPU :D though SSD tech. is still young and the OS doesn't quite work hand in hand with it. ergo you don't get a top R/W speed from the SSD, but seek times compensate it very well and it's noticeably faster than an HDD.
and of course there is 0 noise and less power drain, which is great :D

Fluff, I did a comparison of a bunch of drivers here.
These could all be found on Acer's FTP under different models, or on LV2Go, and all do not require the use of a modded INF since they list the 9500M GS in the original AND have WHQL certification (these won't break Blu-ray playback).

Feel free to try other ones, though - I myself wonder how well 180.70 runs.

EDIT: Actually, looks like a new one for Acer just dropped! 176.92 seems interesting. Might give it a shot once I do a backup.

How did you get these information? Here's what rmclock gives me:
    AS07B41
    Li-ion
    12.506V
    SONY manufacturer

    There's also something worrying me:
    Designed capacity: 53280 mWh
    Fully charged capacity: 48585 mWh

    Is there something wrong?
