The battery's full charge capacity will deterioate with time. When the battery is fully charged do no keep it on mains as it is bad for the battery.

HI there, I have a question about a system you choose when you first turn on your laptop (6920). I decided to go with vista home premium 32, I have created recovery dvd's and now I realized that I want vista 64 bit so I have 4 gigs of ram. My question: is there any way to go from vista 32 to vista 64 using same license key and not having microsoft send me a copy of vista 64 dvd? I remember first time I was booting my lap. vista asked me which version I choose x86 or x64, but when I tried to restore factory defaults the system is vista 32 with no possibility to switch to 64. Please help.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Mack.

Firstly, to go to a 64 bit version of windows you would need to do a fresh install as it is not possible to upgrade, so you would need a copy of a 64 bit version of windows, it is possible to use the license key you got with your system to install this, the licence keys do not differentiate between x86 and x64. If you don't have a x64 copy of wondows (which by the sounds of it you don't) you will need to get in touch with Microsoft to get 64 bit media, this is only possible if you have a retail version of Vista, if you have an OEM version they will not send you one. The only other way would be to buy a copy from a PC store or online. This could prove costly.

I switched from Vista 32bit to Vista 64bit using the instructions in this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228

It worked fabulously! You should download 64bit drivers for all your devices from the Acer website and save them to your D: drive or copied to a flash drive for easy access. If you look on your C: drive, you should find a directory called Acer. In it you should find some of your Acer software, like Arcade. You should back that up as well if you want to use it in your 64bit installation.

As long as you have a valid product key with your system, it doesn't matter where you get the Vista64 installation disk. Borrow one from a friend and make a copy of it for your use. You might be able to find a torrent of one on the internet but you won't know if it is infected with malware or not, so I don't recommend that unless you really know what you are doing.

Halo, are you STILL having problems with your gaming?
I still say that your laptop has the same CPU overheating issues that a good number of NBR members, myself included, have suffered.
The thermal downclock trip on the 6920G is ridiculously low, and most software reads the temp 15 degrees Celsius lower than actual.
Download RMClock, run it and keep an eye on the Monitoring page.
If the throttle drops while core clock stays up, that is a definite overheat, so you should undervolt.

I never had any problems with FPS drops after I undervolted my CPU (using GeForce driver 175.61), and still haven't post-CPU-upgrade on 176.26.

No I no longer have the sudden downclock thats a great plus with the stock drivers!!!!! I just got assassins creed and I want to increase my FPS and I thought a newer driver I haven't tried before would give me a little boost.

    Hi,
is it just me or does the fingerprint reader suck, it takes more strokes to login than it does to type my password :(
is there a better prog than acer or a 'secret' to getting it to work better?
i've tried the 'reverse swipe' reg fix but really not any better. i'm on vista 64.

Good to hear that problem's fixed.
I've heard that 180.70 is a decent driver, plus our 9500M GS is listed in the original INF.
    Worth a shot.

180.70 gave me a about 2 more FPS but then halo 2 would not work lol. Halo 2 only likes my stock drivers lol. So i'm back to my stock drivers.

    Nothing wrong with those.
Have you tried some of the other Acer 32-bit releases?
I did a huge comparo of WHQL Acer-released drivers here.
I've been running on 176.26 since.

EDIT: Oh, and if anyone has $300 they don't mind spending, someone's got Acer-BIOS 9600M GT MXM cards on eBay.

Ok so i have a problem,

This happens only once in a while but it is very scary when it does because I use my computer alot these days so anyway,

once in a while when i turn i my acer (when i push down on the power button) it looks and sounds like it is booting but after about 3 seconds it turns off. Then the second time i push the power button, the button lights up and the screen will glow and the lights on the sides will light up but it doesn't boot. and then i hold the power button to turn off and i push it again and it turn on and boots fine.

this keeps happening once in a while, like once every 3-4 weeks or so

but now this just happened and its turned on and everything works fine but it says, no battery detected although i didn't touch the battery?!

so, should i worry? i bought 2 years worth of warranty from the store and they will cover any hardware problems (i've had this for little over 3 months)

    Hello everybody!

I have more than one problem with my girlfriends 6920G.

I have expierienced many of problems other people had here: turning on computer display doesnt show anything, not waking from sleep, not creating recovery dvd but thats all fine, You can wor around that.

Some people had stated that problem here but without answer. So it this:

After some time of usage girlfriend started to complain about sound problems - disorton, twiching moments of losing signal . It happend with out any visible reason, then after some time everything goeas back to normal. I tested lapy myself to get bigger idea of why it's happening. Instaled some games, everything was runing fine good frame rates and then at some random moment sound sort of twitches and framerate goeas down hugly. After some time it go's back to normal. For example i tried Left 4 Dead(and other Source games) , around 70 frames even at intense parts of game , then after some time it drops down to 3-20fps and then after some minutes goeas back to 70 and then starts again,loops... Tried different games with different engines, all the same.. And sound becomes bad too. So it's related .

So far searching internet havent helped. I found that it's common problem but without answer

    This is what i know:
Temperetures of laptop is fine, i even tried overclocking it it barelly goeas to 67 celsius at load (for example 8600mGS in my hp goeas to 87  ) ,4 different video drivers original and acer, tried sound drivers no luck. I know that restarting computer helps , but just for a short time , reinstalling Vista at least Acers original OEM doesnt help, dont botther. Downclocking doesnt help. Laptop usally is on external power.

So if anybody have a clue please help, really don't want to send it to repair shop. :(

has anyone done a gpu update with one of these? (replacing 9500M GS in 6920G)

@LKR: Sounds like hardware failure to me. Go hit up your retailer for a replacement.

@AdVitam: Welcome to the forums! You're right about the sound being weird at times - make sure you're using the Acer-provided drivers for that. As for framerates, the thermal compound provided by Acer isn't too good - it's the CPU that overheats from the load, not the GPU (Source games can be taxing on both). If you're using monitoring software, keep in mind that some popular ones like to read the temperature about 15 degrees lower than actual.

@gazzacbr: No one's done an upgrade to the 9600M GT, but in theory it's possible. If you've got the time and money, by all means go for it and post back here to let us know how it went!

ok thanks TehSuigi, when you changed your cpu, was there much more to taking out the gpu? is it only paste that i would need, any special tools? i may just buy one anyway and do later. is there any chance that an even faster replacement will become available or maybe that is the limit for gpu's that will fit? i assume that those ones on ebay will fit a 6920g?
ps TehSuigi, i have been running vista 64 on mine for several weeks now, (dual booting with xp for games) but no probs at all programs or drivers

It didn't look like taking the GPU was too much more of a hassle. Once you've got the shared heatpipe off, it looked like there were only a few screws to remove before you could pull the MXM card from its slot.

No chance of a faster replacement becoming available - the new MXM standard is being implemented, and it's completely incompatible with the current one. Which means that 200 Series cards will not be usable in any current MXM notebooks.
Unless you can find a 9650M GT GDDR3 with a compatible BIOS. Highly unlikely, though, and you can always overclock the 9600M GT to 9650M GT levels.
The ones on eBay are MXM-II cards, likely pulls from a 6930G or 6935G. And since those two still share the same board layout and thermal set-up as the 6920G, it should fit easily.

Thanks for the info about 64-bit Vista, btw. I'm planning to upgrade when SP2 comes out - I just did a clean install about a month ago when I got my CPU, and I'm not fond of the idea of doing it all AGAIN.

Like I said, some popular software tools read the CPU temperature well below actual. Try a variety of tools and you'll hit one that works - RealTemp, CoreTemp, HWMonitor, RMClock, etc.
And when my old T5550 was undervolted, it was in the 20s (actual) on battery and idle.

EDIT: And the Acer Chaser discovers another one! The Nvidia driver 175.66 has the 6920G's 9500M GS listed, and is now added to my growing collection to be tested.

Well, I read in reviews that models w/o the FPR had a cheesy-looking plastic black bar in its place.
And to be honest, that's exactly what it looked like to me.

il just registered so this is my first post :)

I bought my acer aspire 6920G-6A3G25Bn for one week ago and I’m happy with the performance but it could be better.
On my 6920 I got the t7500 processor and ati hd3650 gpu with the 8.12 driver.
Now I wonder if I can increase the performance on the computer by overclocking the CPU and gpu.
I tried to overklock the GPU with the amd gpu clock tool but it just jumps back to the original frequencies when I set them.
I also wonder how I overclock the CPU, is it even possible?

The GPU frequencies may be locked due to the driver. Look around using Google and see if that's the case (warning: no experience with ATi cards).
As for overclocking the CPU, I've got one word: DON'T.

    HI MatMat07,

can you say with what you overclocked your gfx card
    i have also a acer 6920g with 9500m gs

    GuruK,

To overclock the 6920G's GeForce 9500M GS, you either need to use driver version 169.04 (like matmat does) or learn how to perform a BIOS Overclock (great guide on LV2Go).

As for your second post, consider yourself warned. It is against the rules of NBR to ask questions about Hackintoshes.

yup there's 2 methods, 1, is 2 use drivers 169.04 with riva tuner 2 overclock and 2, flash ur bios!
i can confirm that flashing acer 6920 vbios is safe as i have done it since the first day i got my lappie :D
jz follow the guide over at LV2GO and flash it!
btw rmb to add a -6 to force flash otherwise it will not work.
    eg:nvflash xxxx.ROM -6

for more info please visit the post i replied to about overclocking the 9500mgs:

btw hello evry1! im new here jz found out tis great thread about my lappie ;) otherwise im always over at LV2GO.

If you have 64 bit forget flashing. Nibitor only works on 32 bit.

I'm trying to install the fingerprint drivers on my 6920. version 6.0.0.88

Interesting error comes up from Setup.exe: Not Acer Machine

Anyone else had this problem? I had the motherboard replaced under the Acer warranty in Toronto - could this be causing the problem?

is there such a version? did u mean 6.0.00.08? try redownloading ur drivers here:
    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_6920G.html
    or
    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_6935.html
the latter link is for acer 6935 but fingerprint utility or sum other drivers works fine wit 6920 i've tried it. btw if u r using 64 bit, u may encounter a prob wher u nid to swipe ur finger up cos its the opposite way round. to fix that u nid to get the fp patch from 32 bit.

AdVitam, the solution was to undervolt to avoid my system overheating.
That's why audiodg.exe was taking up so much CPU - my processor was effectively running at 833 MHz!
