I might need to start undervolting again soon enough - my T8300 has had the rare overheat recently.

Hey TehSuigi, how are the drivers testing coming along? Have you tested 179.28? I'm thinking of doing a little holiday cleaning (taking apart laptop) and formatting. I've only used the stock 175.61 drivers since I have the Blu-Ray drive.

Well, since I noticed that my Complete PC Backup/Restore doesn't work any more when I change my drivers, I'm halting any benchmarking I was planning.
Still, I can provide one vital piece of information - 179.28 was a marked improvement over the 174/175/176 series. AND it's WHQL-certified so it doesn't break Blu-ray playback!

I use Vlite for my system restore. I put data in another partition so it's untouched, although I also backup to an external hard drive.

Hey, can you delete the Acer partition without using any special software? I have one 10.00GB and one 3.54GB partition that are EISA configurations under Admin -> Computer Management. If not, which (free) software do you use? I already made 2 DVDs for Acer Recovery, so I don't need these, right? I put in the Vista Ultimate CD and there are no options to format and reclaim the space from these partitions. The only two drives I could install were the C: (144GB) and D: (140GB), the other 14GB are not there.

GParted is my fave free partition utility - stick it on a bootable USB key or CD key.
And provided you have a) sufficient backups and b) all of the drivers that Acer provides that you'll need, go right ahead!
I did, and everything's going fine. I later stuck a generic WinRE partition at the end of my drive just so I don't need a DVD if things go kaputtsky.

Thanks, one other thing, do you know if the card reader is fast enough for ReadyBoost? I don't wanna spend 30$ on an SD card that I wont use. Thanks again :D

I was able to use a 50x SD (regular) card and it was capable of ReadyBoost.
But the question is, why bother?
$30 could grab you 2GB of notebook RAM instead, and that is FAR faster than RB.

Quick question, I have the 6920G that came with a 512mb HD3650, this goes to 1.7gb with HyperMemory, however for what I do I don't need all this memory, I was wondering is there any way on this laptop to set how much memory is used for hypermemory or is that not possible?

Also can anyone tell me if the SD reader on the 6920G is SDHC compatible?

Yeah, I have 3g of ram, so what is better? approx 8g of RB + 3g of ram or 4g of Ram?

ReadyBoost is absolutely pointless once you go above 2GB of RAM.
Stay at 3 unless you want to move to 64-bit Windows.

MC, the ATi HyperMemory is only borrowed from main system RAM when it's needed. Otherwise, the Radeon HD 3650 relies only on its internal video RAM.

Oh, and the card reader in the Aspire 6920G is a Jmicron JMB385, and since that's compatible with the SD 2.0 specification, it should be compatible with SDHC cards.

Whats the difference between 6920 and 6920G?

And I see that 6920 comes with the graphic card x3100..
Is it good for Left4Dead or any other games?
If not, what other grahpics does it come with?

Thanks TehSuigi for the prompt response.

I have another Question hehe (sorry about all these, desktop's im up there with knowledge, laptop I need guidance  ).

Anway I was just wondering what the max temps I should look out for for the HD3650 are, I connected my 6920g up to my desktop monitor, put HWmonitor on that and enjoyed a little bout of Bioshock on my lappy's screen, now It got to a max of 61°c (141°F), now it is OC'ed, I was wondering is this a safe temperature or should I tone down the OC?

Also what would people say safe operating temps are for the T5750?

    Thanks in advance,
    mc6415

can you please tell if you did sth special to make it work? because I installed (original, without using vlite) vista x64 ultimate on my laptop, and then installed the utility provided by acer and still didn't get it to work. it showed as working properly in device manager but couldn't make it work in any program or the acer utility. (not even windows live messenger)

    A) I currently get an error message when I try to use Partition Magic under DOS so I think my partition table is screwed up so I'm thinking to use an utility called Partition Table Doctor, but from my experience it will mess up with my current partition configuration. So what I'm wondering about is the 2 partitions that came with the original spec's of the notebook. I already made the recovery disks and I think to wipe all my drive's partitions so I can use PartitionMagic again.. unless I will be unable to repair something using PartitionTableDoctor..So my question is.. after I wipe all the partitions..including the 2 ones I could still install my Vista from the Recovery Disks that I've made or I need to use a Vista DVD and register my product?
    B) Secondly, I have a big question regarding the space that those partitions that were made, one of 10 GB, and the other 3,6 GB occupy.. So what is the information that is contained there, firstly in the one with 10 GB and, the other 3,6 GB partition.. I'm a little bit confused about why they are 2, instead of just 1..
    C) I had miscellaneous problems with my Vista/system and I got some freezes because of an unknown driver/maybe from SATA controller ( AHCI ) so I had to switch it to IDE, from BIOS. I've encountered freezing problems even after I tried to use several other methods, like upgrading my Intel Storage Manager, and one more with registry modification, that I didn't tried yet.. nevertheless.. I want to know.. if this is possible what are the main repercussions of this change that I've made.. (Switching the SATA controller from AHCI mode to IDE mode). I've read about this issues here and here If someone can explain a little bit more detailed it would be appreciated.
    D) Now, I'm facing another problem with my network card drivers, I get BSOD when I surf the web, download, IRQL_not_Less_or_Equal, referring to file L1e60x86.sys, so it's surely a driver problem but I can't get through this.. I've used several versions and still the BSOD persisted.. need some tips on this.. ( I've created a previous thread about this issue here ), you can read more there, especially reply #10 where I've listed a blacklist of driver versions. :| It can aslo be a BIOS problem? I've updated to latest version several days ago..just a thought.. HELP!!
I will come back for further modification. If someone can handle this issues please consider to help.
    Regards.

Have you tried to enable some features from the Graphics card? there is an Nvidia control panel, if you are having this card. Try and check there cause I've seen some options there.

I've had thoughts of upgrading my acer as I have the T5750, and was wondering what CPU's will fit in the 6920G, wether or not it's easy to upgrade or not, wether anyone has pictures of the 6920G with the back plates off, and if there's any guides for doing this?

I built my desktop so I obviously installed my CPU there with no problems is the procedure for a laptop similar or vastly different?

    Thanks,

    Hi everybody.

I´ve got it since november and I´ve learnt a lot in this forum about the notebook.

I´m trying to find a remote control to easy play BD when I connect it to the TV; I´ve contacted ACER support but they tell me nothing.

Is anybody using a remote control with it? can it control the Acer Arcade Deluxe (or just windows Media player)?

Acer sell the remote on their site.

It's the one that comes boxed with the high end 6935G like i have. So it should work.

EDIT: no longer on there site.

Hi, my 6920G's speakers (specifically the ones on the right side) seem to distort when high pitched are sharp music/sounds are played. I wonder if this is because of the factory EQ settings (Acer eAudio Management) or if this is a result of a blown speaker, which I hope this isn't the case because it's a fairly new computer (got it in October of 2008).

I bought an Aspire 6920G last week and i'm having some Bluray problems.

Basically the Arcade Deluxe that came bundled only lets me play certain titles.

I rented The Dark Knight and Kung Fu Panda today.

Stuck Panda in and disc gets to language menu. Clicked English and then disc sticks at next loading screen.

Cleaned and tried again several times but same problem.

Stuck Batman in and works great first time.

I took Panda back to shop and swapped for another copy but it stalls at the same point!!

I'm thinking of installing PowerDVD 7.3 but will I need to remove Arcade Deluxe first?

If i do remove it can i still use the cinedash?

    Thanks,

    BBJ

Kung Fu Panda worked first time!!! and I can now watch my HD DVDs through my xbox HD DVD drive!

I think Arcade deluxe's days are numbered on this lappy.

I swear, I don't remember being able to do this, but at least I don't need to change my driver to start moving past the 4K milestone in 3DMark06.

Last night i sleeped with the notebook on and unpluged, perhaps someone could help me? im freaking out

    ...

ok got it working back again by taking off the battery and inserting it back again after 20 secs

@TehSuigi, no probs for me to o/c the few drivers i have tried on vista 64 and my trial server 2008 also, but cannot do the same on XP. asking for help on http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=244647&page=4
i have seen a thread somewhere saying to do proper uninstall (remove, safe mode, driver sweeper etc) before changing driver other o/c not working properly. maybe vista is better at removing driver than xp as i have always just removed, rebooted, then loaded new driver.

why lesson learned? I put a totally new disk in there :D why would you need recovery disks and hidden partitions? they are only useful if you need to RMA your notebook, so you can put everything back as it was for them :p (I won't be RMAing mine, crosses fingers)

@ratchetnclank: it didn't really freeze if you don't have to take out the battery to shut it down :D I would call your a mild chill :p (try selecting random clock generators in setFSB, that's a freeze XD)
