Maybe we could all start making an effort to inquire to the local Acer resellers regarding the 3820TG? By showing that there is a demand for this product, maybe Acer will see the light and release this computer in North America......... just an idea -
-
Update - here's the latest reply from the local computer store in Vancouver.
---------------------------------
In the last email I told you that we can get 3820TG-352G50nc (i3-350M 2.26GHz) for CA$1190, and I just conform with our Tawian store that they also able to get the 3820TG-432G50nd (i5-430M 2.26GHz / Turbo 2.53GHz) for CA$1230 but not able to get the i5-450M 2.4GHz model.
If you decided to get that notebook from us, just drop by at anytime and pay the 30% deposit than we can do the order.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you,
----------------------------------
I am just trying to see if they are able to lower the price if they were to place a bulk order from Taiwan as opposed to a bunch of small single orders.
Please be patient... -
I might be selling mine within the next couple weeks if anyone is interested...

good work hardcor! I would be interested in the purchase of the i5 version of the notebook. Let me know by pm or on here what the plan is when you know! I'm also in Edmonton, Alberta...... but can get to vancouver if it can't be shipped.
-
-
Ah, first time poster, long time lurker. If your reseller can bring some over, i'd be interested as well Hardcor
I tried to contact computeruniverse, and essentially what they told me is that because US/CDA are searching packages with increased frequency and are rejecting/holding packages because of the Li-ion battery, they are no longer shipping to North America -
I too would be interested.

The T series have been discounted from day 1, with varying fluctuation.
The 4820T-5570 model was as low as 699.99 at one point.
Also, TigerDirect has had their 4820T-5570 model discounted to 699.99 ($50 below MSRP) from day 1. -

C'mon Hardcor!! >.<
-
Ya know Harcor, it would be ironic if Canada wound up importing 3820TG's and the US could not.
Esp., since it was Canadian customs who screwed the whole German Option up to begin with.
Good job so far, getting this organized. Even at that price, to be able to have your unit delivered to a Canadian retailer is a real step forward. I wonder how the warranty will play out.

Edit: Well we know the right size but that switch would not function as an on/off switch. So, we need to find another one the same size. 1/4"l x 1/8"w x 1/8"d [email protected] -
If it's a BC store, I don't mind calling (from work, free LD
) if it speeds up the process
-
if so, that's reason enough for me to get the 4820TG instead of waiting for the 3820TG -
Latest response for import 3820TG into Vancouver :
-----------------------------------------------------------
If you do a group order I think we could cut down $30 to $50 on each laptop depend on how many you order.
-Just want to inform you again the OS will be Chinese Windows 7.
-Yes, you will have 1 year global warranty.
-Yes, it still have a regular QWERTY keyboard but will have some Chinese symbols on it. something like this

I'm going into the store Saturday to discuss how we could set up a group order, maybe through a
"Special Order" link on the website, or some other way. Maybe once he gets 5 or 10 orders with
deposits, he could place the order to Taiwan.
I'm trying guys, bear with me. -
Are any of the higher spec'd 3820TG's available in Taiwan or is it the I5-450M?
Very nice job on getting this organized. I remember all the time I spent trying to figure out how to get mine.

I don't understand why they don't offer the 3820tg here!
They've had the 3820t for months or year at my local fry's.
Why can't they have the tg version!?!? this sucks.
The 3820t /w i5 is $699, but I want the tg!
/rant -
As long as the store is able to individually charge each customer seperately, and have a separate invoice for each, there should be no problems. I'm very interested in this (GVR as well). -
-
To everyone in canada, please go to Canada Computers and click the "product request" at the top and request the 3820TG... they just restocked on a ton of 3820T's after they sold out so they must know it's popular... with enough requests they just might pressure Acer to send some units their way.

Its difficult to convey thanks on the internet, but you have my sincerest thanks for your efforts here
I'd love to get my hands on one of these, and while i5-450M would be the best possible outcome, i'd happily settle for the lower CPU but have the HD5650. Either way, if everything is kosher, you have another "definate yes" from me! I'll even throw in the cost of a Wendy's combo in it for you as a finder's fee -
Plus, if you think about it, that model/price was merely an illusion, since Canada was never going to permit private importation of those units. The other thing is that no one knew how much Canada was going to tack on for customs duties. It could have been another couple of hundred $$. So, this might be close to the original price. Who, knows, maybe you'll get an OC'able unit where it looks like the models near my unit do not.
Having a dealer do the importing is really smart. My hat is really off to you on this one. I am quite surprised that there is no similar set-up on our west coast.

+1 rep for that.

Fingers and toes crossed.

Hey, first time poster, long, long time lurker on everything 3820tg in these forums. hardcor, I am very interested in getting a 3820tg with i5 430m as well but i'm not sure if the premium price is really worth the better graphics card and lower RAM than the model offered at Staples for $799. Is the 5650 really that much better to justify the close to $400 price difference? (even more when you upgrade the RAM)
-
Bronsky -
well then hardcor, im in! -
How much does a US keyboard cost?
-
-
>.< Don't care about backlit keyboard, me want 3820tg!!
-
Is there any way to order straight from Acer?
The waiting is the hardest part. -
Nope. Acer sells entirely through 3d party retailers in the Pan American region.
-
I'm excited to see if hardcor can make it work! Would love to getmy hands on the i5 version. Would it be worth the wait for this or the asus u35..... which would be cheaper and have more ram....but no 5650. Ideas?
-
Here's something else I stumbled across this morning :
AS3820TG-3022 is the model that Staples sells with the 5470 GPU.
Acer Canada Distribution Partners sell to Acer Canada Resellers. Synnex.ca
is an Acer Distribution Partner.
Synnex.ca show that they carry two different models of the 3820TG :
AS3820TG-3022 W7HP ENG/FR I5-450M 4G
AS3820TG-7945 W7HP EN/FN I5-460M 4G
http://ec.synnex.ca/vendors/ACER.html
I wonder if AS3820TG-7945 has the 5650 GPU or does it just have a ever so slightly better i5 CPU? -
I would check with the wholesaler to see what GPU is has. Nice find.
Bronsky -
It hasn't been categorized yet so it seems like a new arrival... hopefully it has the 5650 we've all been waiting for!
-
-
the staples one has the i5-430
the synnex model is different i5-450 -
I emailed Synnex to see if they'd provide us with a definitive answer. I drive by their office every day, and can create a reseller account with my business if it all pans out!
