Looks like the Canucks are getting the 3820TG with ATI 5650 option...
Check this out...
PC CANADA - ACER BILING AS3820 I3 W7HP64 4G,500G,13.3HD, ATI HD 5650,BGN,WEBCAM, [LX.PV102.288] - The Original and Highly Rated All-Canadian WebStore
Apparently insight is going to carry them too.
-
^This is of interest. Unfortunately they do not ship to USA.
-
Just like many sites that dont ship to canada =). This is good news though, i already ordered the 4820 tg from sates a few weeks back but this is good for those looking to buy a new laptop.
-
Great find guys. Does anyone know if they will get the i5 models too?
-
I'm not sure but the i3-370 is just as fast if not faster than last years i5-430.
-
If the I3's are being imported, I would expect the I5-460M will show up soon as well.
Has anyone confirmed that this company will not ship to the US?
Bronsky
-
insight canada also has it in their catalog... maybe able to get them to ship it to US, isn't it a US company...

Nice find ... yes the company has a US and Canadian division. It shoud not be too hard to talk them into shipping one to the store only 15 miles from my house if I need a new one.
Less than $800 for a 3820TG/HD5650. Nice! What is PCHome going to do now?
Bronsky
-
Nice. Glad I didn't buy from PChome. Needs i5-450M at least though
-
Got a quote from my rep at insight...
$747 CDN + shipping + taxes comes to approx $860 (shipped to your door)
ACER AS3820TG-7360 13.3 I3-370M 4G 500GB HDD 5650 -
That is $100 cheaper than my original I4-450M 3820TG from Germany. Price seems great. Will they ship to a US address? If they do, I would guess that there is not much need to import from PCHome anymore (unless you need an I5).

I just want to announce that I got my 3820tg from PCHome, I ordered the i330 + 512MB At 5450.... and I received the i370 5650 1GB... if you add both to cart you'll see that the actual notebook model is A73 for both (in the details)... which made me wonder.... saved a butt load of money that way... I picked it up for 864USD after currency exchange... so it's not that far from the price people are seeing popping up in the Canadian stores, for anyone who can't wait!! I got mine in 4days
-
I must say if this is across the board...wow! -
So i guess it probably be the same model that we'll be getting in Canada. As I got quoted $860 CDN taxes and shipping in from Canadian company Insight.ca for the i3-370 + 5650...
Did you notice that it's doesn't come with bluetooth??? -
According to PCHome's product description, the "free upgrade" i3-370 models come with 2GB RAM only, but with BT 3.0...
-
Does it come with Windows 7 64bit or 32 bit?
-
All configurations come with 64-bit Windows...
-
Can you link me to the laptop you bought? I don't see any i3s on PC Home.
-
They're right here. http://world.pchome.com.tw/?mod=store&func=style_show&SR_NO=DHAE0U&tm=u

-
Thanks bro.
Looks like they're out of the i3/5470s.
$864 USD is tempting, but I figure it will cost me $200 anyway to upgrade the CPU myself to an i5 so I might as well stick with my $1040 order of the i5/5650.
I'm still trying to sort out everything with PC Home. My funds were indeed successfully sent and PC Home has my money but the order status still shows failed... lmfao. -
Wierd. Are you finding it easy or difficult to communicate with them? And, yea, if you don't have a spare I5 sitting around, it will cost you a couple of hundred to upgrade it.
Bronsky
-
Very difficult.
The language barrier is obviously the biggest issue.
I've had USA paypal contact PC Home's paypal's account manager. No response yet.
I've emailed PC Home twice, no response yet.
I'm sure this will all get sorted out, but the process is frustrating. -
That's why I gave up on Singapore ... it was increasingly more frustrating trying to communicate with the time difference and language barriers.
I hope you get this straightened out.

The most aggravating thing is knowing dozens of other forum members have ordered and received laptops from PC Home without a single problem.
I followed the ordering directions to a T.
My paypal account is verified and address confirmed.
I funded it with a Visa CC.
Yet for some reason my order failed.
My moneys gone and my order is a failure lol. -
I'm sure it will get straightened out ... PCHome seems reputable. Just luck of the draw I guess.

so I heard that due to no optical drive the 3820TG actually has 2 heatsinks, 1 for cpu and 1 for gpu, is that true? seems a great way to get rid of heat
2 fans in it, I guess I was trying to ask? lol -
You are correct, and one of the key reason it can handle the heat in much less noisy way than the other 13" power house, Sony VAIO Z (which really is not that loud).
-
according to insights FAQs the Canadian website does not ship to America, and on the American website the only comparable Acer i see is the Acer TravelMate Timeline 8372T-3602 - Core i5 450M 2.4 GHz - 13.3" TFT for $865.
worth it? -
A "T" model? No dedicated GPU at all? I don't think so. I like the Asus U35JC far better than that. $759, a 310M GPU, optimus and a better warranty. BTW, I did not know that any 8372 models were in teh US yet. Thanks for the heads up.
Bronsky
-
Actually i'm probably getting the u35 but i was going to get it from gentech, according to everyone its worth paying $819 (or $854 if i upgrade the wireless card) because i would be getting better customer service, however on amazon you could get it for $749 without any upgrades.
what do you think any advice? -
When i emailed PCHOME during the phase i went through to wanting to return the notebook, their english was great, and very promot replies to my email. about 1.5 business days to get a replies which is okay i guess.
-
$749 + tax right?
which email address did you use? -
Hope your stuff gets straightened out Jay!
I ordered last monday, and received it on friday. It rocks. Even with 2gb of ram it's super snapper, I'll install 2 new sticks soon to get 4gb.
Used Bronsky's steps for the most part to get it english. Worked great. -
Thanks zeem.
You didn't get a free 2GB ram stick as a gift?
If this doesn't get sorted out by Tuesday, i'm gonna dispute the crap out of this with paypal and my CC company.
Most likely i'll go with the U35JC... -
is this the same computer everyone is looking for?

Only tax if you live in NY, which seems to be the case. If you order the laptop directly from J&R, you can use GEICO10 to save $10 and can additionally use discover cashback if you have it for 3-5% on the site.
I ordered one (ASUS U35JC-A1) for my girlfriend this past Thursday and the laptop should arrive this Monday. We shall see how nice of a computer it is. I may be getting the 3820TG next month so I can compare the two laptops. -

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on this one. Can someone tell me the BEST and CHEAPEST place to buy an i5/5650 and have it shipped to the USA? I don't care about having to get another keyboard, I just want the cheapest i5 with the least hassle.
Thanks! -

The Canadian spec seems to be with the i3 only.

Okay ... so far there seems to be 3 options for buying the new I3/5650 3820TG in Canada.
PC Canada = $776.92 CN
Insight Cn = $798.99 CN
Amazon.ca = $849.99 CN
CenDirect = $745.00 CN (ships to the USA)
ATIC Com. = $743.00 CN
Has anyone actually checked with any of these companies to see if they will ship to the US? Since Insight is a US company, I wonder if one of these units can be shipped to a US based store and sold from there?
I think that PC Canada and Amazon.Ca are unlikely to ship to the US. That leaves Insight as our best chance to have a north america based source of the HD 5650 3820TG.
Anybody see any indication that his model is comming to a US retailer?
Any model updates for us Insider?
If you find out any of this information, please post it as completely and clearly as possible. It would be nice to track this information down. As the specific information is listed, I will mark these sellers as possible importers and list any others that we find in this post so all of the information is in one spot.
For now, it still looks like PCHome is the only option for an I5-460M unit and for US residents, they may still be the best source for any 3820TG. It would be ironic to have to go thousands of miles to order something that may be as close as a hundred miles or so away.

Consider Acer make these in China, which is further west from Taiwan, it's really not that ironic -- it has to pass through Taiwan (more or less) no matter where you order it.Bronsky said: ↑For now, it still looks like PCHome is the only option for an I5-460M unit and for US residents, they may still be the best source for any 3820TG. It would be ironic if Acer has a plant in Canada and make these here in North America and you have to buy them from Taiwan.

Can you give me the exact email address they replied with? I've used all the contact forms and I haven't received a response in over 3 days. Thanks!lastdon said: ↑i used google translate and

Bronsky, are you down for a road trip to Canada? Hahaha...
-
I'm sure there will be ALOT more retailers who will stock it, including NCIX which has an American site as well.
NCIX also pricematches
They're pretty much my store of choice because of that.
More and more retailers are adding it to their site now, all not in stock, assuming first batches come early October.
http://www.directdial.com/LX.PV102.288.html - $757
http://www.ordicentre.com/laptops/laptops.php?show=all - $749 -
So, my current plan is:
- Buy a cheap i3 from Canada:
LX.PV102.288 AS3820TG-7360 I3-370M 2.4G 4GB 500GB 1.3-WXGAG W7HP BLK BRUSHED - Cendirect Canada
$805 CDN = $782.65 USD
10 incoming to Toronto source on Monday
- Then buy an i5-540m from eBay:
Intel Core Q3G9 i5 540M mobile cpu 3M 2.53GHz 1066MHz - eBay (item 280564881990 end time Oct-20-10 16:38:28 PDT)
$125 USD
and wind up with a powerful semi-unique i5 laptop for less than $910 shipped.
Am I missing anything? Seems too good to be true.
EDIT: And that's not even considering that I can sell the rare 370m for who-knows-what on eBay later... can we say free SSD?
EDIT #2: Should I get a different CPU from the 540m? What's the recommended upgrade for this guy, if you want to keep a balance between power and retaining that 7hr battery life?
EDIT #3: Once I created an e-account with my actual address (San Diego), the price for shipping jumped to $120 - same as for the 'outside the US or Canada' option when browsing without an account. The new price is $865 CAD = $840.98 USD. I might try calling them when I'm ready to order tomorrow and seeing what I can do.
