Computer universe refunded the price. You buying on a credit card?
-
Yep! Making sure to buy on a credit card that'll extend my warranty... if it exists...

Just ordered a 3820tg with 450m from pchome, came out to 1053 after shipping.
What do you guys think of the touch pad? I really liked the two finger scrolling on the asus ul30vt but not so much on the envy 14, how well does it work on timelinex? -
^^^ Off-topic, but where are you getting it shipped to?

Hmm... Expc has been garnering some negative attention for its service and policies over at the CDN deals forum redflagdeals.... And now PChome is sold out. Screwed.
-
-
I guess that'll give me time to find out if that other guy's unit made it safely in Montreal. C'mon i5-460M!

Since my laptop that was bought from computeruniverse has not arrive yet, I might jump on PCHome. If my laptop doesn't arrive in the next week or so, I'm just going to file back for a refund and buy from PCHome. Just want to know something, has anyone from the east coast bought from them? If yes, how long did the shipping take?
-
-
Oh just wanted to mention that my laptop was silver, not brown like in the picture.
-
I think it's back in stock on PCHome... what time (EST) is it available at 30900? Right now it's still $33900.
-
Since when did we get a brown 3820?
-
Managed to install google chrome so that it auto-translates pchome's web site and it works like a charm (thank God or I never would've figured things out).
So I logged into the customer service section to verify the status of my order and they've already posted a waybill number with a hyper-link to their local mail carrier. Looks like my package is already on its way (details include the flight number and departure date set for today - August 3rd). I was also able to use the waybill number via the Canada Post web site. Will keep you guys posted -
-
Oooh. Back in stock... Have BC store import it for me, or save $300 and chance it myself?? I gotta make the shotgun decision...

Hello everyone. I've been reading the forums for quite some time, but decided to register so that I could comment on my purchase of the 3820TG.
Originally I attempted to purchase one from computeruniverse, but seemed to get the run around about why they couldn't export it to the US. I came across the PCHome site before it was posted, but waited because I wasn't entirely sure about ordering from Taiwan. After I saw a few others buying from there in the other 3820TG thread I went ahead and purchased it.
For those of you interested I purchased the i3-350M silver lid model located here for 28,940 NT$ (~905 USD) including shipping which came out to $928 with PayPal's fee included. The notebook shipped 7/30, and was flown to O'Hare (Chicago) on 7/31 where it arrived later that day. It should arrive here tomorrow (8/4) for a total of 6 days.
As someone else mentioned before the EMS tracking information provides the date the item will fly out, the flight number, and where it's headed. Mine was processed by customs in O'Hare on Monday (8/2). For those of you purchasing from PCHome you can track the package using the Taiwan iPost page here. Once the package is in the US you are better off tracking using the USPS page as it provides more information.
My only concern is the USPS has not always been known for being delicate with packages and I would hate to have to send it back to Taiwan after a rough welcoming to America. I'll know more tomorrow though. -
Anyone order the protective keyboard cover?

That page also shows the Taiwanese keyboard...

@KarmaPolice - I really like the typing action of my 3820TG. Typing has to feel terrible with that cover on. -
I'm glad to here people found a reliable exporter.
I'm still going to hold out hope that this comes to the states through normal channels- unless someone has heard definitive statements to the contracry.
The 4820TG was hard to find for a while (only at microcenter) but now it is at Amazon. Maybe we will see the same thing soon with the 3820TG- or at least I can dream -
Yes, it's supposed to have a silver lid. It seems the 3820TG's on PCHome are being refreshed with silver lid versions, and the i3-350M now comes with a Radeon 5650 1GB instead of the Radeon 5470 512MB. I only purchased the i3-350M version so that I could get it here a little cheaper and install an i7-620m in it like the Singapore model... -

For those of you interested, expc has the 3820tg listed on their website now.

they cost so much cause they are imported
-
-
Thing is, it'll apparently take 2 weeks to ship via expc, but only 4-5 days via pchome...
-

Wow... expc comes to 1354.52 for delivery to Ontario.
I'm tempted to just get the 5470 model for 900 all in at Staples. -
^^ Can you actually find stock of that? Last I heard, it was out of stock everywhere.
-
^^ You mean the Staples one? It's out of stock online but I've seen it in stock in at least 2 locations.

I just wanted to add my story so far.
After lurking here for a bit and trying to find a new laptop, it seemed to come down to the 3820tg or the Envy 14 for me. I liked the size of the Acer more than the HP but figured that the HP would be much easier to get in the US. Hearing that the HP GPU was clocked at 450/800 compared to the Acer 550/800 (which more of a chance to overclock), made me decide that I'd definately prefer the Acer. Thanks to Hardcor for setting the groundwork with EXPC, the Acer seemed obtainable.
I ordered from CP at EXPC yesterday. He sent me a UPS tracking number last night at around 2AM. The last entry on the UPS site is an Export Scan and the status is In Transit - On Time for delivery tomorrow. If it actually arrives on the scheduled date that's only 2 days which I think is pretty amazing.
EXPC (CP & Riggi) have been a pleasure to deal with. CP gave me spec to make sure that I was getting the laptop that I wanted and so that there was no confusion. He also sent me a image of a Taiwanese keyboard so that I was aware of what it would look like.
I ordered an Acer 3820TG-5452G50nsse with the following specs:
CPU: i5-450M 2.4GHz / Turbo 2.66GHz
Display: LED 13.3' 1366x768
OS: Windows 7 HP 64 (Chinese version)
Video Card: ATI HD 5650 1G DDR3
RAM: 2G DDR3 1066 (1 x 2G and up to 8G 2x4G)
HD: 500G SATA
Other: 1.83kg, 6-cell 8hours, wireless b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, 5 in 1 card reader,3 USB 1 HDMI 1 VGA
Hopefully, by tomorrow, I should have the laptop. Now, I've got to go back to refreshing the UPS tracking page. -
^^^^^What was the grand total for your unit?
-
I was quoted $1206 CAD but it hasn't posted so I'm not sure what the CAD to USD conversion will do to it. UPS is now showing that it has departed Taiwan.
-
This is the one that's supposed to drop in price at night right?
PChome¥þ²yÁʪ«¡mACER Aspire 3820TG-5452G50nss.(i5-450/1G ¿WÅã)¡n
Haven't been able to see it drop in price at all... did they end that promotion?
Maybe I'll get the i5-430.... it's 130 dollars cheaper. -
-
I placed my order via expc about an hour ago - CP called me up and made sure everything was ok. He told me that shipping is actually only going to take about 5 days to reach my door.
Good thing, cuz my fiance was going to punch me in the face for the late present! -
^^ What was your total price?
-
Hey silentjay, did you ever hear back from synnex canada about the gpu on the i5 460m model?
