I ended up paying $150 more for some reason... =/ Hmm...

My 3820TG arrived a little bit ago from PCHome. Here are some things to keep in mind for those importing from Taiwan (and PCHome in particular):
The keyboard it comes with is the one posted by Karma Police a few pages back. The power plug is a standard US plug, and the power brick is made by Delta Electronics and accepts 100-240 volt 50-60Hz. The model is ADP-90CD DB.
PCHome includes a 3-prong to 2-prong power adapter that isn't necessary here in the US in most cases. It also included a Porter bag for carrying accessories, but I think the one I received is ugly. Acer includes a carrying bag and USB mouse in the box for the laptop. If you are buying from PCHome do not purchase a bag or mouse for it unless you have a specific reason to. -

Can't wait!
-
I hope it wasn't a July-only promotion or something...
Maybe whisperer can come back and tell us the best time to check (Taiwan time). -
hmm, that's strange.
It must not be a nightly thing. Seems more like it just goes on sale every now and then. -
They read this thread.

What do you guys think of a good deal I can get:
Acer 3820tg from staples
core i5-430
hd5470 graphics
699.99 from a friend that works there. I know its not the 5650 but is the premium worth it if I don't play that many games? I was thinking go for this and throw a 128gb ocz vertex ssd in it instead. Making it a 1000.00 system. Any thoughts on this? I can have this tonight as well -
if u can get it for 699 do it
if u dont play games ur good, some people say the 5470 came play games at lower settings, -
-
If you don't game, no problem - I've played SC2 on a G310M before... not pretty, but it'll go.
-
-
If anyone is interested in any other pictures of the laptop or accessories please let me know and I'll take some more. -
Are all of the 3820TG units sold at PChome the silver lid now? (or have they always been?)
And you are right, that Porter pouch thing is pretty fugly. -
-
For anyone who's received the 3820TG from PCHome, does it come with 1 stick of 2GB ram or 2 sticks of 1GB? What type is it?
-
-
Thanks, guess it'll be an extra 60 bucks to add another stick.
-
-
Whoa, i7 tomorrow already? I will await the benchmarks.
-
P.S. yeah, I'm actually in Taiwan right now. -
Awesome.... Thanks for the thoughts guys. Girlfriend just went and picked up 2 3820tg's from Staples. Thanks for the heads up on the crucial drive. Looks like i'll be buying one of those as well. Kinda hard to pass up that deal at 200.00 for a 128gb SSD.
I'll post back here with the thoughts and review of the staples version when i get it all up and running. -
No problem, zeem found the 128gb crucial here:

I already ordered one. If you are ordering more than one, do it one at a time because the -$100 seems to apply per order, not item. -
Just bought a crucial 128ssd for 213.00usd shipped to Canada. Great deal. Thanks for sharing that info guys, picked Fed-Ex international as they seem to have no brokerage fees as it's included in the shipping price of 13usd.
Can't wait! -
^^ Hey Capn-Daft, where are you located in Canada?
-
-
-
edit: oh you just tick the "I want to add $ 999 to buy notebook with 2GB of memory (DDR3)!"?
edit 2: I think the i5-450 model comes with an extra 2gb as a gift already? -
-
That said, I just got my tracking # from expc, and just caved and ordered the crucial SSD for $200! Just hope duties don't destroy the deal... -
-
Whoever gets a Tiawaneese 450M unit, would you check to see if you get a PLL error in Setfsb? I am curious to see if if the Tiawaneese units are OC'able.

I'm located in Edmonton, Alberta for those who wanted to know.
-
Gah, PChome site was under maintenance all morning.
-
You guys are doing a great job with this thread. Nice to see units coming into the US again. It's amazing how quickly the units sell. The pricing on the Taiwaneese site is funny, the price is lower in the middle of the night? WTH?

Threw a copy of Win 7 Pro on temporarily. I downloaded the SetFSB shareware copy and was able to pull up the clock speeds using ASUS G73 as the clock gen and Get FSB pulls back that my FSB is 132.7. Is there something else that needs to be done to test? -

So far, I've only upgraded the memory and installed an SSD. Installed a copy of Win 7 Pro x64 and tested SetFSB. -

Booyah!! Mine just touched down in Alaska a few hours ago!
-
I got my staples version up and running. Pretty slick. Took some time to download all the drivers on another laptop and usb them over to the acer after a clean install of windows 7 ultimate.
Loving this laptop.....like 1/2 the size of my previous dell in every way. Just waiting for my crucial ssd to come in now! -

BTW, congratulations to all of you new 3820TG owners. You have bought a great computer. -
Mine cleared customs review, it was only held up for 1hr and then forwarded to CP for processing as of 8am this morning. Hopefully it'll be shipped to my place sometime tomorrow

A member in Taiwan says the sale starts 5pm in Taiwan so that's midnight in California... but personally I have not been able to see the 30900 model on the world.pchome.tw site. It's there on the Taiwan region site but there's no international shipping.

Bump for more advice.
