Those are EPIC good temps for a 5920G, I run my downclocked gpu at 94 celcius (ati card), and my cpu is always 95-104 celcius (around that 104 my laptop shuts down though). If you use your laptop as a desktop like I do, you might consider simply removing the bottom panel and place your laptop on a laptopcooler. This method works for me, otherwise I wouldn't be able to play games anymore (probably due to a bad cpu repaste with AS5).

I've been running this acer at dangerously high temps for more than five years so don't worry about it, when it gets too hot it shuts down and thats it. It's like soviet technology, it works badly with a lot of heat and noise, but will keep on working for a hundred years.

edit: also wanted to note your re-pasting: the general rule is a rice drop, not an entire layer like bricklayers use when building houses :p Oh and wear gloves, I read somewhere thermal paste is carcinogenic, but if you browse forums on that topic the opinions vary from 'my teacher told me that ..' to 'nonsense, just dont eat it'.

    screws.jpg

    Hi

Can anyone tell me if the screws to attach the Graphics card on the Acer AS 5920G are M2, M2.5or M3?

I have a Asus 240M GT 1GB (60-NTSVG1000-A01) eager to be installed and the default screws are too short. :|

I tested the card in sort of a "ghetto" attachment and is working 100% with just modded drivers, temps would max out at 75ºc with very deficient fixing.

    regards

ps: the shim is a polished 1cent coin (euro) , "ghetto" ;)

Thanks for the reply, but I'm either seeing it wrong or it doesn't say which screws for the "vga board".

I'm assuming M2 or M2.5, I'll order of both in 12mm, can't find this sort of thing in my city :/

    - Copper Pad Shim Size:10mm*10mm*1mm for (4) RAM chips
    and
    - Copper Pad Shim Size:20mm*20mm*0.8mm" GPU chip.
This is my better try, please see the results:

    2013.jpg

    10 min test (1280x800) with FurMark, 86 C max.

I will test it with Far Cry 3...

    @ edit

40 minutes Far Cry 3 and the max GPU temp at 92 C.
This is the best i think, the only more that can i do is a better thermal paste.....
    Please tell me your opinion....

Everything is working fine, its a much faster card compared with my 8600m gt 512 ddr2.

I get an avg of 30/40 fps in bad company 2 at 720p with the gpu avg in 60/70% usage, which means that the t9300 at 2.7ghz with the ram at 333mhz 4-4-4-12 is the limiting factor. ;-)

Temps reach almost 80c gaming because the polished 1 cen coin is too thick, I'll work on that when I have time.

It costed 100€ from some guy that repairs laptops through a site (OLX) where people sell used stuff, the guy lived 20kms from me, so went there with the 5920g and tested before buying. Quite lucky of me I think.

I had the 5920g set aside for some time to a hexacore crossfired desktop, but now using it as main computer as it's silent and consumes less power and I rarely game now.

DON'T! You have to put a spacer between the core and the heatsink because with this card the height of the core is lower, with the default 8600GT all you need is to replace the thermalpad (like grey chewing gum) and apply the thermal past.

ok skatan thanks for the heads up so to be clear you say to buy new thermal pads and above the thermal pad apply also thermal paste am i right?
because now i only have themal paste in the core of the vga.

Then leave it as it is

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I cant believe I can play BF3 with an avg of 30fps at 1024x768 on a 64 player server with the 240m GT and the T9300 @ 2.7ghz

    @ aeolous

You must use this patched BIOS from .NetRolller 3D for BIOS update and then no more you are READY!

If you look at service manual you can see that maximum length of M2 is is 4mm, max of M2.5 is 15mm and max of M3 is 4mm.
So I guess M2.5x15mm are VGA screws becuse there are no other 15mm screws...
If you already bought them, can you confirm?

    hi guys,

So it is confirmed that Acer 5920g is working with 9600m GT (with modded bios)? Only for DDR2 not the DDR3 version?

YES it is confirmed that Acer 5920g is working with 9600m GT.
YES for both DDR2 and the DDR3 version !!! (DDR3 version is hotter)

Attention, look for ACER VGA bios, some VGA bios from other manufactures (for example Asus, HP) NOT working in ACER laptop.

    Hi all,

I ask for help to flash the bios of my 5920g.
I downloaded the bios 5920g_MXM_V3.WPH, and I'm trying to flash it with Winphlash but I have a problem.
When I click on flash bios tells me that the file is corrupt.
Can you help me to flash it? What software should I use to update the bios?

    Thanks

Hey war10k666. I had bios problem flashing as well. The reason was, acer will not let you flash bios if you have windows 7 64bit installed. I had to install my old vista 32 bit os on a separate hard drive that I installed, then I could flash the bios. sorry if you run into the same problem

Must bake your card 20 min at 200°c. see this
Oven Baking Fix Acer Aspire 5920G Nvidia Geforce 8600m GT Graphics Card GPU - YouTube

The best solution for you is flash the .NetRolller 3D patched BIOS
    5920G_MXM_V3.WPH
    OR
    5920G_MXM_V3.WPH
    OR
Free File Hosting - Online Storage; Upload Mp3, Videos, Music. Backup Files
    OR
    FileSwap.com : 5920G_MXM_V3.WPH download free
and install the 9600m gt (512 or 1024).

Other solution without flash BIOS is 9500m gs or 8600m gt or can you see here

PM965, but that's not an obstacle as far as I know :D There's some (means quite a lot) soldering involved as well as socket modding. And that's the theory :D In practice, no one knows how it would turn out.
