    It is better to use a card with Acer BIOS, but generally the 9650M GT works in Acer 5920G.....maybe card with ASUS BIOS works with Acer 5920G. Must you check this!

    try drivers from this site: LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers

    download the driver, download the inf file (download with "save link as..." and change it...from .txt to .inf) and after that copy > paste > replace the original inf from driver folder (bin file, i think...)

    δεν δοκιμασα το hdmi, δεν εχω τωρα..... :confused:

    in this case maybe the problem is on your windows operating system, maybe a solution is the format and reinstallation windows...or delete all nvidia drivers with driver cleaner application.

    Ηappy New One Δαίδαλε!

    I have another question for you as well, please:

    After many many hours spent trying to figure out why my pc (5920g) was freezing suddenly and only manual restart with power button would work ( :( ) and many months later, I have concluded that it is a video card problem. My card had already crashed once and I had to oven bake it like a cinamon cookie. All worked perfect but last 2 months it freezes - black outs 10 times p day!

    The tricky part was that the pc is functioning fine in safe mode, as a result I didn't expect that the problem was the faulty v-card... till one day recently, after I had tried every other possibly reasons, I saw in a forum that windows in safe mode use their own graphic settings and not the card's !!

    So, I've read all the present thread (all 16 pages! ) and I would like to ask you:

    As I am not a gaming fanatic, which video card may you propose me to buy that it will do the job without problems and flaws as the 8600M ones ? ( I have thermal paste (arctic sth) and I can find copper. What I dont't have is enough money to buy a new pc right now :) .

    Thanks a lot and well done for the great assistance!

    Γεια σου φίλε!

    As you can see in my previous posts

    The nVIDIA Geforce 9600M GT MXM II DDR3 512MB Card, G96-630-A1, VG.9PG06.006 is good enough for you (with modded BIOS)...
    And the 9600M GT MXM II DDR2 1024MB is a compatible card for your laptop, if use the modded BIOS.

    All the 8600M GT chips (same with 9500M GS) is problematics.

    You can see for some to buy in ebay.com, ebay.co.uk but in ebay.de, because there are more of this one..
    Remember always pay with paypal for more security!!!

    Καλησπερα δαιδαλε,

    I buy a new 9600M GS from ebay from my Acer 5920G laptop which has the 8600M GT burned. The 8600M GT (even burned) allow the laptop to boot and load windows with a black screen. Even BIOS text doesn't show up. The laptop had the latest bios from Acer. The seller says that the 9600M GS card is work correctly with these Acer laptops. When I press the power button with the new 9600M GS card, the laptop LEDs are light up only one time, and of course the screen in blank. After that one time blink the laptop seems halt. I have download the 5920G_MXM_V3.WPH from another computer, but how I suppose to install it when I can't see the screen with my old card? I have DOS skills but I don't known where I find the correct executable to flash the BIOS and the sequence of keys to be pressed to boot into pure DOS from my usb stick. I try to boot the laptop without a vga card installed and it won't boot. It boots only with my burned 8600M GT but with a black screen from the beggining. I also try to connect another monitor in analog vga connector but again I have a blank screen. The laptop LCD is work fine but the problem is the vga (gpu) card. Can you help me?

    8600m gt and 9600m gs is the same chip (and the same problems....), so it is strange....why don't work your laptop?
    normally must work without this custom bios, maybe the problem is on your mxm ii socket? on some cable? some thermal paste?

    you can see this sites for blind flash Bios:

    The old vga chip has printed the numbers G84-600-A2. The new had G96-600-C1 and is 3 mm narrow at both sides.

    NetRolller 3D had say in the blind bios upgrade thread that the first step is to remove the mxm card so the laptop had to boot with Fn+Esc and power adapter procedure but without the vga mxm card installed. Is that correct for the 5920G ? The member area14 who is asking for the blind procedure doesn't had succes with the blind procedure and gave up.

    What is the procedure you follow with your laptop bios upgrade?

    Where I find the correct WinCris 1.0.0.4 ? I find some of them but I don't know which the correct one as they don't had any readme file and all had inside a different phlash16.exe file size.

    I kept power on my laptop at about 2 minutes maximum to test the new card. So it must not be a case of thermal paste or cable. The new 9600M GS card hasen't had the time to push up the temperature. Also the old card is working fine, except the blank screen.

    please read this thread from the first page, only the vga chip is the same, not the card...

    the 9600m gs must work without need do something...so the problem maybe is on your new card? on somewhere .....?
    8600m gt or 9500m gs or 9600m gt card? ok, no problem ... you can flash this patched bios any way...
    the steps is exactly that, all done in few secs with some lights blinking....maybe you find more if googl it.

    The WINCRIS.EXE with size 253952 bytes who had version 1.0.0.4 in details tab doesn't run in both Windows 7 32bit (x86) and Windows 7 64bit (x64) even with admin rights and Windows in Test Mode. WINCRIS_EXE1.0.0.4_fails_in_W7x86_and_W7x64_even_with_admin_rights_and_Windows_Test_Mode.png and say << Error: Failed to start service "WinCrisis" >> I see that this program is from 1998, do I have to run it from Windows XP?

    I'm able to boot with MS DOS (from Windows 98) to the USB stick. Why I have to make a boot USB stick with Wincrisis and not by using pure MS DOS?

    I think that only phlash16.exe from wincrisis is nessary to have blind bios upgrade and the rest is ulilities which they have the ability to format a disk and makes it bootable.

    The WinPhlash (32 or 64) is for Windows but I don't see the screen when I have the old burned mxm vga card. So I think, I need a DOS 16bit phlash.exe and I have to add it in the AUTOEXEC.BAT

    I don't have the right to send pm in this forum.

    The WinCrisis runs only when start your laptop from a bootable usb flash disk (or from an old floppy) and don't runs on the windows.
    Just put all (i think) files from "CRISDISK.zip" to usb flash disk, but before that replace the "BIOS.wph" with your bios file that you want for update.

    The others is for later if you have an working windows laptop and want bios update.

    WinCrisis is a MFC application so it dosen't run in DOS. The statement "The WinCrisis runs only when start your laptop from a bootable usb flash disk" doesn't have any meaning because you can't start a pc from a usb and run windows. Windows always need a hard disk (except some windows embedded or WinPE edition etc. which isn't the case here). The job of Wincris is to format a usb stick and place some boot sectors, copy some minidos files to make it bootable etc. That is the preperation of a later boot procedure. The actual BIOS flashing procedure is done by PHLASH16.EXE

    I boot the laptop with my old working mxm II vga card (the 8600M GT now burned, but it's boot fine with blank screen of cource) to a pure MS DOS (nothing in config.sys or eutoexec.bat) and I run the PHLASH16.EXE /C /V /X and in the same root folder I had placed a BIOS.WPH (original name 5920G_MXM_V3.WPH from NetRolller 3D), but i hear buzzer sound and I suppose that the BIOS.WPH isn't compatible with my SBIOS. The same buzzer sound I see and hear when I place the same FAT32 hard disk in another desktop pc which indicate that the bioses aren't compatible. Do I have to place the /force parameter? Again, I don't have succes with fn-esc power up procedure and the crisisdisk - wincrisis. I find a 2 different versions of WinCrisis that runs on Windows but they recognize my usb flash disk as a 3GB when in fact it is 16GB and they seem to work only in compatibility Windows XP mode but they doesn't actually copy the files to the usb stick as they say in the progress bar.

    The PHLASH16.EXE I use with MS DOS is 143081 bytes vesrion 1.6.9.5 from 2008 and is the newest I have found inside of wincrisis.1.0.0.4

    Hi, NetRolller 3D,

    How I can find if my 5920G is really upgraded with your 5920G_MXM_V3.WPH bios? I updated it form within a windows xp 32bit version with the help of terminal services (RDP - remote desktop connection) by using the Phoenix Winphlash. At the time it go to update the bios and actually flash it, then it just reboots. It's not shutdown gracefully like when we choose the "shutdown" button. It's just reboot.

    Never mind, I had success :thumbsup: with Phoenix WinPhlash 1.7.0.24 with this PHLASH.INI
    Code:
    [Main]
    FormatVersion=2
    UpdateFlags=9109a2
    UserFlags=9101a0
    UserMask=d121a4
    PSIFlags=820
    UserMode=ffffffff
    RetryCount=3
    UpdateMode=3
    ImageFile=BIOS.WPH
    BackupFile=BIOS1.BAK
    [UI]
    SaveEscdMode=1
    DetectBitLocker=0
    ForceUpdate=0
    Advanced=1

    placed in the same folder of the previously upzipped WinPhlash utility

    My burned 8600M GT 8600M_GT_burned_from_RemoteDesktopConnection.png from Remote Desktop Connection from my desktop pc and my new 9600M GS

    I gain access to the laptop's Windows XP screen by placing these two files

    ets.cmd
    Code:
    wscript a.vbs

    echo Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 >> ts_on.reg
    echo [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Terminal Server]>> ts_on.reg
    echo "TSEnabled"=dword:00000001 >> ts_on.reg
    echo "TSUserEnabled"=dword:00000001 >> ts_on.reg
    echo "fAllowToGetHelp"=dword:00000001 >> ts_on.reg
    echo "fDenyTSConnections"=dword:00000000 >> ts_on.reg
    regedit.exe /s "ts_on.reg"
    del /f ts_on.reg

    net user admi 123 /add
    net localgroup administrators admi /add
    sc config termservice start= auto
    a.vbs
    Code:
    Const ENABLE_CONNECTIONS = 1

    strComputer = "."
    Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _
        & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")

    Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
        ("Select * from Win32_TerminalServiceSetting")

    For Each objItem in colItems
        errResult = objItem.SetAllowTSConnections(ENABLE_CONNECTIONS)
    Next
    to the laptop hard disk which I had attached to my desktop as a second hard disk and by creating a shortcut at (laptop's hard disk letter usually c):\Documents and Settings\(your username)\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp which point to ets.cmd
    By just one laptop reboot I open Remote Desktop Connection from my desktop pc and then login to my laptop with user admi and password 123. After that the flashing with the above phlash.ini is easy and took about 3-4 minutes. If the bios flashing ends suddenly then probably the phlash.ini is in wrong folder or dosn't exist at all (this is my case in the above post !!). Then I remove the old 8600M GT and install the new 9600M GS, (which halted the laptop with the old bios) and it just working !!! :)

    9600M GS temperatures with 10% load (eg. idle) are 47 C.

    If I would install a copper shim on the CPU (not GPU) It would get better temperatures? Or it cannot be done?

    Hello guys, I am quite new here and wouldn't send another question in this thread, when things were clear for me. I dont understand every step, so this is my question:
    I got an Acer 5920G, 8600M GT, Win7 64bit, and wanted to update it to 9600M Gt (already bought). Think, its DDR2. Now I have read here your fantassstic result, dedalos, that the whole procedure of updating BIOS and so on has worked.
    Could someone, maybe you, dedalos91, be so kind and explain step by step, what I have to do now? All I have is the bought 9600M GT and my acer 5920G with 8600m gt in it.
    What do I have to do now? Download some .wph-file and phlash-whatever program? I didn't get it, never updated BIOS.
    A step by step sollution would be kind. Where do I get the .wph file and a compatible phlash-version. What do I have to do with this program. Some pics would be kind. Sorry for my bad knowledge about BIOS-upgrading.
    Thank you!

    Hello,
    I have two laptops broken 5920G. All the usual problem with the video card.
    In one I put a video card MXM 540 QuadroFX without bios. If I put it in the pc of course does not start because it lacks the bios.
    I've tried looking online but I can not find a bios that I can add with Phoenix bios editor to the original.
    Can you give me a hand?
    Where can I find a VBIOS for the MXM 540 QuadroFX?

    In the second put a video card HD3650 MXM taken from an HP laptop. This video card is also no bios chip.
    I had to reprogram the bios of 5920 by adding support to the board as written in the guide http://forum.notebookreview.com/not...-phoenix-how-get-romless-video-card-work.html
    It all works perfectly:-D

    On my 5920 I have a 9600M GT 512MB DDR3, it works well, I wanted to know if updating the VBIOS version from 62.94.19.00.33 to 62.94.3C.00.04 if I need to change something in the BIOS mxm_v3 and if I should upgrade to matter temperatures.

    Ok, dedalos91, followed your steps and flashed in these order the BIOS.
    The following reboot ends in a blue screen ("A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent..."). Guess, more people had the same problem.
    Well, if 8600M GT or 9600M GT, with that BIOS version windows doesn't boot. What now? Did I really had to put the thermal paste and copper shim on it? Cause it didn't boot with the old 8600M GT either.
    But now I know that the bought 9600M GT works... BIOS is now the problem, and, as far as I can judge, the windows repairnig system doesn't rebuild the older BIOS version (endless boot-fails and repairing procedure).
    What now?

    By the way, thank you for your help, it isn't your fault, what happens now

    the blue screen in most times i think is operation system (windows) problem, so can you go into BIOS setup? and do you see any deference? the BIOS has updated?
    the thermal paste etc is for lower temp...is secondary problem...
    can you go at the last known good working point of windows from the hitting F8 button / safe mode options?

    Agreed, blue screen indicates software issue - system or driver one - not hardware or BIOS.

    Ok, cause Blue Screen says:
    "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: [...] Remove any newly installed hard drives....."
    Ok thats enough, i guess thats a standard error message and it has nothing to deal with the video card, cause it appears even with the older one?!

    The VGA Bios Version is: nVidia 62.94.19.00.33
    But I dont know, if it is the newer one... is it?
    May I have to change some BIOS setting or reinstall windows 7, what wouldn't be a problem for me...
    Thanks

    same error, when going to an older windows working point, btw

    The BIOS update that you make is for motherboard / system BIOS not for Nvidia VGA card. After this BIOS update for modded BIOS your system support an normally unsupported VGA card (9600M GT).
    Maybe the best solution is the windows repair booting from windows DVD or a clean install of windows...

    Ok here my temporarily results:

    Flashing BIOS worked
    Flashing produced Windows problems
    New Installation of Windows
    Windows boots and I can start to install drivers
    Downloading nVidia drivers from official website, choosing drivers for 9M series

    Now:
    After Installation of nVidia drivers, the system boot crushes. The safe mode of windows works, think, its because the video card drivers from nVidia are not involved into booting.

    When I insert the older video card (8600M GT), the system boots normally and windows even detects the video card as 8600M GT (nothing like that, when i used the 9600M GT and before i have installed the video card drivers).

    My theory1: The video card 9600M GT works, but it produces a louder and stronger function of the cooling fan, so i guess it gets too hot. When I use the stuff to cool the video card down, it should not be so loud anymore and maybe the heat of the video card produces the bad system booting.

    My theory2: The heat of the video card is still a secondary problem and has nothing to do with the booting failure. After the installation of nVidia drivers, Windows 7 (x64) detects: "hey here is a 9600M GT involved, this can't be", and the system crushes, 'cause the combination of Win7 ultimate (x64) and 9600M GT in an acer 5920G laptop doesn't work

    My theory3: theory 1 and 2 stick together an p!$$e$ me off...

    So, is something like that already known here? Cause I guess that my old video card would not produce the mailfunction.

    thanks btw

    Neither of your theories is likely to be real - if that's any consolation.

    Try using modified inf for drivers from here.

    You have to update your bios. I have success with the above Phoenix WinPhlash 1.7.0.24 (md5: 8a139232707f9526f1f15ed3eba13293 *winphlash1724.zip) and the "NetRolller 3D" unofficial bios file 5920G_MXM_V3.WPH which have md5 signature "4f84a30338d478ca513f5c84483b0e2b"

    Assuming that you see the laptop screen, then you need to create the above text (.txt) file (PHLASH.INI) (not PHLASH.INI.txt) and place it inside the folder you have to create in order to copy the files from inside the winphlash1724.zip

    After the bios update you need to unscrew the cap with 9 screws and below that is 4 more to replace the mxm GPU card. Before all that, you have to had the lattest official bios from acer site version (3813).

    It's difficult to make screens because i have allready done this procedure.

    If you give me teamviewer connection I can tell you exactly where is the problem.

    I've tried the driver "302.59_win7x64" (my operating system is now 64bit again) and windows show me the 9600M GT as my video card. Great, BUT: The system crushs after a while, maybe five minutes after booting. does the driver do not work best with my system? Which driver would recommend? Now trying 285.79_win7x64.
    I can switch to win7 32bit, but thing its no matter.
    thanks

    Ok here some pics, on the first you see, that its detected as 9600M GT GDDR3 and the BIOS version, on the second video card specification and on the third the temperature of the GPU, its even at 85° in normal windows mode without doing anything, is it too high?

    Definitely too high - on the last screenshot current temperature is 98*C while load on the GPU is 0%.
    Average load is 2.2% and at the same time average temperature is 76*C - this is not good at all.

    My guess is that the GPU die is not actually making contact with the radiator. If it did, even with thermal compound being poorly applied, temperature would be much lower.
    I would estimate the temperature should be lower by some 20*C to be called correct.
