Do I have to unplug the battery when it is connected to ac?
Like...if the laptop is 50%, then I charge & use it at the same time until it is charged to 100%.
Is it better to unplug the battery after it is 100%?
    or keep charging it?

    @skylinelks
It'll stop charging when at 100% and run from mains alone. No need to unplug the battery.

Update on availability of the Acer 1810t-734g32n (LX.SA202.008) for Germany and Austria

Some Austrian shops have an updated timetable. First I could find was 30.10., then 29.10., now it has changed to 06.11.

    Another week of waiting!!! :(

JR issued an RMA and after sending the photo of the damaged item, she agreed to overnight a replacement one without recharging my account. I just had to email the rep indicating if the defective item doesn't return to their warehouse in 10 days, it is ok to charge my credit card for the replacement.

I can't hold JR accountable for the defective laptop, but the rep handled it reasonably well. I was really freaked out at first from all the horror stories, but my confidence and patronage has been restored! lol

I'm glad to hear that J&R is finally being responsive without the drama. This is good news for those who may want to purchase from them.

I have ordered a 1410/SU2300 from them and received it Tuesday. I haven't had the chance to open the box due to unfinished project which I completed with 1810T I got from Amazon. I hope there is nothing wrong with it.

In case you're wondering, my job requires I use a separate computer for work only, hence the two laptops.

    @Yus9

In my case, I have had both face-to-face (while I was still living in NY) and online dealings with J&R throughout the years. They excel in competitively priced products but so-so on customer service in the return/exchange department.

I am willing to believe that someone from management have heard enough complaints that changes are being/have been implemented, especially in the current economic climate we are in.

I'd actually pay someone to do the following modifications to my 1810T (and incoming 1410 SU2300):

    * Hardware mod to enable SetFSB/OC'ing
    * Add 2nd miniPCIe header connector

I'm wondering if the unused miniPCIe connector in the 1810T/TZ & 1410's in the North American models (usually reserved for WWAN/3G) would work with miniPCIe SSD's. I've been wanting to:

    * Swap out the miniPCIe half-height Intel 5100 to a 5150 to get WiMax ability (I think the USB lines are enabled; I sort of remember someone confirming so).
    * Add a 64GB SSD like this: SUPER TALENT FPM64GLSE Mini PCIe 64GB Mini PCIe (SATA) MLC Internal Solid state disk (SSD) - Retail
    * Swap out the stock HDD for a Seagate 7200.4 500GB or something similar for storage.

Yeah... a bit overboard... But it'd be nice to OC the SU7300 at least 33% like the ASUS ones (Turbo33 @ 1.73 GHz) or higher... Use a miniPCIe SSD for a Windows 7 boot-drive and the rest can stay on the 500GB 7200 RPM drive.

    der_mali... Too bad I live in the U.S. :(

    Cheers,
    Kermee

Please read through this thread that der_mali setup:

Your answer lies within and the hardware modification is not for the faint-of-heart or people who drink lots of coffee & smoke. Surgeon-hands are recommended. ;)

Unfortunately the second mini-PCIe is not fully functional as someone who modded it reported. It only exposes the USB signals.

Just watch the charging light or Battery Bar when 100% is reached.

Is there a clean install walkthrough on the 1810T yet?

Coincidently, just read this bit on Slashdot:

Does creating your own DVD restore set allow for a way to selectively install certain applications, and not others? Would love to know.

    Thanks for an answer.

Asus, in their UL20 using the SU7300 only does upto 5 % overclocking natively -- so its not Turbo33 for the SU7300/UL20 at least. You'll find this in the UL20 thread where there are screenshots of the bios from China/Taiwan.

Concrats, however a 2nd ohw , don't know for 7. But my simple thougt is that it would be in principle the same procedure. Find the Acer OEM certificate from the restore partition, lookup your OEM key and a copy of 7 media.

After I installed it on my 1810T, the fan is no longer really noticeable ;)

Planning to install it onto my 1410 too when it arrives tomorrow.

    Hello everyone :)

I'm receiving my 1810TZ-412G16N (LX.PJ502.087) tomorrow, it's the dutch/belgian version. I want to run windows 7 professional 32 bit instead of home premium 64 bit.

Can I just upgrade, or do I have to reinstall?

And If I reinstall, which of these drivers do I install?
    I guess my version doesn't have 3g/bluetooth.

Why are there two intel chipset drivers? Do I install both?
Do I install the SATA driver?
I've read in the tweak section not to install the realtek sound driver, I won't ;)

    Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Is there any way to get virtualization on the su4100?

I just received my 1810T. I noticed it comes loaded with a bunch of crapware. I'd like to do a format and fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit. What's the best way to go about doing this?

Also, once I've done this, is there a way to obtain the Acer software that came on it? Is any if it really necessary?

    Thanks!

Yes, and a mouse, but barely -

I would not recommend keeping the lid open while the adapter is in there. While the lid will stay put, the hinge is obviously stressed from the weight.

I finally unboxed the 1410/SU2300. Of course, first thing I did is put 4GB RAM and 250GB HD. BTW, the 1410 has 2 1GB hynix modules. Good thing I bought a pair 0f 2GB Module (Transcend Memory, 800mhz DDR2).

Here are a couple of pictures of the HD connector and the super weak cheapo plastic that rips easily (I already ripped the one in the 1810T). Do not try to remove the HD with this flimsy plastic!

Pic 1 - HD connector with breakable plastic (circled where the weak area is). My suggestion is to use a credit card or something flat to lift this guy (very gently, or it will break). It is very fragile. I already broke the one in the 1810T by accident by putting very little force. My mistake was using a screw on one end and my fingernail on the other. My hand slipped, and that's all she wrote.

    http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/1153/1002616.jpg

Pic 2 - Piece of thin transparent plastic and easily snaps off (again, I already ripped out of the 1810T by accident) I don't understand Acer's rationale for putting this. I used a credit card on the 1410 and that was a better approach.

    http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/4769/1002617j.jpg

I will just have to live with my mistakes with the 1810T. Thankfully, the 1410 didn't have to suffer the same from my initial clumsy attempts.

1/ image your hard disk if needed
2/ find your current windows 7 key and certificate
    3/ perform fresh install
    4/ install the cert+key

    hope this helps
