unhappy... this is just plain stupid and ridiculous.
I think that slow computers don't exist: people just buy the wrong computer. Sometimes because they don't know, sometimes because they expected too much and sometimes because some stupid seller convinced them to buy the 10,1" when the client actually wanted a 13,3" with a T9400.

A joke indeed. I didn't even get my 1810T so far...
I can't wait to the next quarter though, no way. -
I really don`t get them
Why would someone go out and say "Our product isn`t good enough"
Don`t they want their new models (T and TZ) to sell? From what we saw, those little machines were sold out in the first 2-3 days and still are. But with such an announcement people could wait for the next Model -> Meaning : Less 1810s sold
Weird -
And one more thing
Did anyone from Germany that ordered from notebooksbilliger.de got his product yet? I saw that they removed the item from their site.
ANy news? -
Nope, i´ve read the comments at notebooksbilliger.de and some staff member said they ( the shop ) are still waiting for their delivery. So nobody got one until now, the mod wrote they had to take down the offer because they were flooded with orders
-
Well, if the machines are indeed sold out, then they probably do want people to wait for the next model. Maybe they have sold what they wanted to sell and are ready to get the ball rolling on the next line. In the process, they just killed some of the other models being offered by their competition. They are a step ahead of the rest on their release dates and are just killing this market segment.
If they had made this statement anytime before October 22, then they would have been stupid. But they didn't do that. They waited until the mad rush was over. They aren't stupid. It is just the opposite, they are genius! -
I agree with ohiomoto!
Acer's statement is just marketing talk to hurt competitor's sales
They are on top with their CULV devices right now and are planning to expand further. Most competitors waited for Win7 launch, but Acer had been selling allready. So a statement like this at this time makes sense.
-
Yup, agreed. Acer is simply competing with itself with promises of future offerings. Thats what a definitive market/segment leader always needs to.
-
This actually makes sense
You got me there, i can say only one thing : I agree now
-
That "not happy with CULV" statement is not meant for consumers. The statement came from an earnings call, and it is meant for investors and analysts.
And we do not know the context of that quote. Maybe an analyst asked "what can we look forward to in 2010Q1?", and JT Wang had to say something about how the 2010Q1 line-up is so much better than the current offerings. If JT said "we are perfectly happy with our current products", analysts and investors will read that statement as "this company has nowhere to go but down".
They are simply sending different messages to different audiences. I don't think Acer is done selling CULV-based laptops yet; the shopping season in the U.S. is only starting! (And no, Acer is not ahead of anyone else. Everyone has to wait until 2010Q1 for Arrandale.) -
Nope. He can download any version. You either have to modify the ei.cfg file in the source folder, or delete it. If you delete it, the install program will ask you which version you want to install. Here is the EI file:
[EditionID]
HomePremium
[Channel]
OEM
[VL]
0
I simply used the Windows 7 Professional RTM I got from MSDNAA that I have installed on my desktop and changed the EI file above (Professional to HomePremium and Retail to OEM) and it worked like a charm.
Just verify you download an unmodified ISO so that you don't use a hacked version that could have viruses or backdoors installed. -
Will, I previously linked to pages that outlined how to change versions by manipulation of the ei.cfg files. I wasn't aware you could change from Retail to OEM though.
-
would this computer be able to play Youtube HD?
-
Microsoft finally wised up and made the install discs/images the same for Retail and OEM for Windows 7 plus all versions/tiers of Windows 7 depending on which key you use.

I'm in the UK and cannot find an 1810tz with bluetooth anywhere
Has anyone else in the UK had any luck finding a stockist?
Also, I have just seen the Acer Ferrari One for sale
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172295
I know it has no HDMI, but how do you experts think it rates against the 1810tz. I also cannot find a version of the Ferrari with bluetooth in the UK! Acer must think in the UK we don't use bluetooth!! -
I ordered it for 499,- Euro but didn't recieve it yet.

Well, I've made some progress on the Vimeo HD playback problem I was having. After I posted about this (audio clipping) problem earlier, one of you responded saying that playback was fine, with just a few random "pops". This made me try closing out all other i.e. tabs to see if that would help. This made the clipping go from near constant to almost nothing. Then Soliton mentioned watching in Firefox with multiple tabs open with very good results. So of course, I had to investigate.
I downloaded and installed Firefox, opened up about ten tabs with random pages, and then fully buffered a vid from Vimeo. I then did the same thing in i.e. When I watched the vid in i.e. the audio was breaking up so bad it was basically unwatchable (although video itself was smooth). CPU usage averaged only about 60%. In Firefox with ten tabs open the results were about the same as watching in i.e. with only one tab open. Very watchable!
Are you guys as suprised by this as I am? I mean I know many people prefer Firefox, but I've never heard of anything like this before. -
First thing I thought too. Marketing propaganda.
Acer is very close with Intel (probably closest). They will have the new CPUs on the market first. They're trying to dis the competitors like Asus, Dell and HP who came late. -
I've now seen the Ferrari for £380 delivered. I'm very tempted now, but do you guys think its a good buy. I dont know much about the AMD chip, but it seems really good. The UK models all seem to have 2gb ram, 250GB hd's and Windows 7 Premium
-
Depends on what you're looking for in a notebook of this size. The ATI Radeon HD 3200 GPU is better than the Intel 4500 MHD. But AMD's processor doesn't match up to the Passmark scores on Intel processors:
658 - AMD L310 (Ferrari 200) @ 1.20 GHz
750 - Intel SU2300 (1410) @ 1.30 GHz
840 - Intel SU4100 (1810TZ) @ 1.30 GHz
890 - Intel SU7300 (1810T) @ 1.30 GHz
And of course the XGP port instead of the HDMI port.
Against its 1810 series equivalents, I think the Ferrari 200 just doesn't offer the same value. -
Anyone else having problems getting their bluetooth to connect with an iPhone? My 1810t sees the iPhone, but it won't connect. Error message says I'm missing a driver.
Help please... -
Anyone else testing their Su7300 with Passmark? I've run the test several times and have consistantly been coming in the 950ish range. First test was 956, second test 951, third test 957. Anyone else have the same scores?
-
Which OS have you installed? I suppose it's Win7. Vista and Win7 PassMark scores aren't comparable.
-
Yah, I have Win7.
-
Question for everyone. Does the SU2300 1410 model have SPDIF? How is it used? Do I just pick up a toslink and plug it into the headphone slot? I don't see an optical beam. I know its in th specs for the SU3500 model but not on the 2300 model. Any ideas?
-
Well, the battery on my 1810t does have the um09e36 model on it and does supply the same voltage, has the same capacity, etc. Their "for reference only" pic looks the same as the real Acer battery.
Gaidin -
Okay, I can confirm similar problems. I managed to pair the Iphone but not much beyond (as in no data transfer, etc). The problem seems to be the old (happened for my Thinkpads) Microsoft vs. Widcomm bluetooth stack issue/conflict. Except, that in Win7 its complicated by how drivers are handled somewhat differently apparently. I managed to install the Widcomm stack using the Broadcomm/Widcomm download, but it seems to have no effect in Win7 (in XP, this fixed things for me). There is one "Bluetooth peripheral device" that remains driverless. At least, my bluetooth mouse works fine.
If anyone has any leads, please share. -
Well, have you tried Google Chrome? You may be even more (pleasantly) surprised
-
Hi,
I ordered the 18010t su7300 in notebookbilliger.de a week ago.
They said 2-3 days in the website but now they say by the week 48, which I managed to translate to approx the end of november.
Well, I can't wait to get it. The price was really good and true 499€ (three days ago it disappeared from the list)
NOW: I really like to buy an SSD disk. That would make the thing a perfect laptop.
Prices are going down!
The best SSD disk so far, based on many reviews, -with MLC technology, is the Intel X-25, the version of 80GB is sold from an amazing price of 186€ (germany). Available 17th of november.
http://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/OffersOfProduct/1161286_-ssd-2-5-80gb-x25-m-intel.html
Performance go easiliy to 5 times faster than normal disks.
Then the 320GB I could it put as in a case for backup data, etc.
Has anyone this intel yet or any other SSD in the Timeline?
Regards.
Pescao. -
Someone that changed from a 5400@ to a 7200@ HDD noticed only a 0.3 point difference and somebody else with a 5400@ HDD was already at that performance if i remember correctly.
Does a SSD Hard Drive have such an influence? 5 times faster? Sounds a bit much to me -
Thanks soliton. I'll have to check it out.
Perhaps I should rephrase my statement here a little. I've certainly heard of people using these browsers in order to free up processing power for other tasks. What I don't understand is why I'm having to do it. One of the reasons I waited for the dual core models was so I (hopefully) wouldn't have to play these kind of games. Is it a big deal now that I'm having to? Of course not. If all I have to do is use a different app to fix the problem...no biggie. I'm just curious as to exactly what's going on here. The anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that my processor is struggling with the task. However, task manager suggests otherwise. I mean it NEVER goes above 75% and that's just a few random spikes. Makes me wonder if I'm missing something here. -
Has anyone experienced any dead battery issues? My battery died on my new 1410 after a few hours, Windows said it was at 76%, but unplugging AC just caused the laptop to shut down.
I've sent it back to the store where I purcahsed for an exchange (since it was only a day old), but was wondering if anyone else ran into similar trouble? -
Wow, looks like they put a rush on this release and didn't give it the QC it deserves. My first one came with a dead pixel, the replacement one had a huge white vertical bar on the monitor. How could QC miss that? Third replacement was good.. *knock on wood*. Then the numerous reports from posters here of something going haywire.
-
Well, Acer doesn't consider a dead pixel a defect.
-
The Windows performance Index is pretty much useless as a benchmark.
You can see how SSD compares to 7200rpm drives in this review:
http://www.laptopmag.com/review/storage/intel-x25-m-g2.aspx?page=4 -
Generally, yes. New crop of mainstream, high performance SSD's (like the Intel X-25M and OCZ Vertex or Vertex Turbo) makes huge differences in perceived and actual performance, especially in Windows.
I've run out of X-25M 80GB G2's to put into my 1810T but have a couple on the way from Newegg. One is going into my 1810T and the other into my ASUS G51Vx-X3A in the primary HDD bay while the existing 320GB 7200 RPM drive goes into the secondary HDD bay.
If anything at this point, the new Kingston 40GB SSD "Boot Drive" for $85 USD after $30 MIR which releases from Newegg on November 9th are a perfect fit for the 1410/1810T/TZ models if you're looking for a "different experience" with Windows 7. Windows 7 (Ultimate x64) can be trimmed down to a 9GB install if you turn off Pagefile (if you have 4GB of RAM) and Hibernate (which is useless since shutting down and starting up Windows 7 from SSD is about just as fast; S4 works better with magnetic media than SSD's; SSD's sort of obsoleted S4).
Cheers,
Kermee -
Haven't had any battery issues with a 1810T and a 1410. -- When you get your new unit, install BatteryBar. The link to the free software can be found here:
It'll give you a lot more information on the battery than Windows itself does.

What about a pcie mini SSD?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227437 -
#1. You'd need a half-height miniPCIe SSD.
#2. You'd have to remove your half-height miniPCIe WiFi card.
#3. ... The unused miniPCIe slot adjacent to the half-height miniPCIe slot only has the USB lines enabled; no PCIe lines.
Cheers,
Kermee -
For anyone who cares...
I'm using an AVerMedia Volar MAX (USB) with my 1810T for OTA ATSC 1080i and 720p along with Windows Media Center for Windows 7.
No issues; perfect video and "trick play" (DVR) capability with plenty of CPU power left over.
Cheers,
Kermee -
If I ghost the HD to an SSD, do I need to do anything to make it to boot in win7 with TRIM feature enabled?
-
If you're using Intel X25-M G2's (or the Kingston branded version), you need:
#1. SSD firmware updated to 02HA (which has been temporarily removed from Intel's site as they fix a bricking issue).
#2. Make sure Windows 7 is using Microsoft's AHCI drivers and *not* Intel's AHCI/RAID drivers.
More information can be found here: Updated: The SSD Improv: Intel & Indilinx get TRIM, Kingston Brings Intel Down to $115

I have the SU2300 and just noticed that the cable of the charger is 7A 125 v. I always use a converter when in Europe
I am going to Germany in 2 weeks, and I wonder if anybody had any problems with this? Or better put: Can I use my beloved 2300 with this cable or should I buy another one there?
-
Kermee, I am aware of the firmware update (in fact I'm waiting for Intel's fix before I order).
It appears from checking Device Manager that the AHCI Controller driver is Intel's and not MS's. Should I uninstall it and win7 will uses MS's driver automatically? -
That's odd... Yes and double-check the BIOS to make sure it's in AHCI mode. With the Microsoft drivers, it should look like this:
Also, make sure Windows 7 is loading both IDE & AHCI drivers at boot for safety sake in case you get an "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE". Microsoft KB has an article on how to enable both drivers.
Cheers,
Kermee -
what do you mean by only has the USB lines enabled?
So what can I add to that slot? -
not sure what is going on, but on my cpu-z my clock multiplier on my 1810t is 8 and it says its running ag 1.6ghz?!

I just purchased a Gateway 1435u with the SU2300 and Windows 7 X64. Just curious, what are your boot times? I'm running about 48 seconds from post to desktop showing and I just wanted to make sure that was in line with others. That's with the Intel AHCI drivers and all of the crapware unloaded.
Does that match up with what you are seeing?
