Was it easy removing the HDD? I seen comments on here and reviews on NewEgg mentioning that the HDD Cable/Connector was pretty fragile.

Second video here shows the procedure:

    http://project-r.org/cgi-bin/diarypro/archives/904.html

I did it on my 1810T, I used a standard computer toolkit chip removal tool to lift up the latch on the ribbon holder instead of the two flathead screw drivers that the video shows, but either should work.

My Gateway EC1430U. It's be rather strange for Acer to cripple their SATA controller.

Maybe it's something screwy with the SSD I put in there, that's why I'd like to see a screenshot from CrystalDiskInfo from an Acer user using the stock HDD.

Great, thanks, time to do some investigation.. Hmm, my stock 320GB HDD on my 1810T was a Western Digital Scorpio Blue.

Acer 1810-8679 (blue with SU7300)... let us know what you find, since I think I'm just looking for an excuse to splurge on an SSD myself ;)

Ok, it's something with the SSD. Just opened up my 1810 and put in the stock drive, reports as SATA/300. Put the SSD back in and reports as SATA/150.

I'm using a Kingston SSDNow V Series 128GB SSD. The benchmarks indicate all speeds below 150 standard, maybe it's just a SATA 1 drive, which is damn odd for an SSD.

Still happy with the speed, I have a 160gb G2 in my laptop and can't justify the price of another one for this 1810T. The V series is fast enough, and more importantly has all the other advantages of an SSD I care about (lower power usage, noiseless, and shock resistant).

I've always found it weird that the Intel and Intel-based SSD drives have a rating of 0.15W during active mode and 0.06W idle while other SSD manufacturers, like the Kingston V Series, show 2.5W active and 0.45W idle...

    WD3200BEVT that's in my 1810T is rated 2.5W active and 0.85W idle...

I wonder if those power consumption ratings for the Intel SSD's are correct. 2.35W (2350mW) would make a huge difference in battery life for us...

    Cheers,
    Kermee

That's what I have in mine.

My Kingston branded Intel X-25M 80GB G2 arrives this Wednesday. (Didn't feel the need to UPS Next Day the SSD this time around). I'm too lazy to pull an Intel X-25M 80GB G2 from one of my desktops to test the SATA/150 vs SATA/300 on the 1810T... :/

    Cheers,

    Quite the contrary...

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139072

It's just not up on Kingston's website ;)

SNM225-S2 are the G2's. SNM125-S2's are the older G1's (exception being the new 40GB model under the SNM125-S2 nomenclature; it's 34nm & Kingston has stated that the 40GB will get auto trim support in the future). Now that the cat is out of the bag...

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139071

We'll see how long the 160GB G2's stay at $469 USD...

    Cheers,
    Kermee

EDIT: Looks like Kingston finally updated their website and removed references to the SNM125-S2/80GB and SNM125-S2/160GB line... The "UK" version of the website still shows the SNM125-S2 line:

    http://www.kingston.com/ukroot/ssd/m_series.asp

Global/U.S. shows the new SNM225-S2 line which are the G2's:

    http://www.kingston.com/ssd/m-series.asp

EDIT #2: How the SNM225-S2 line got outed; the back of the SNM225-S2/80GB... Note the firmware and part number:

Guys i`m about to receive my new 1810T and i have some quick questions

I`m 100% sure that i will do a fresh install of the win 7 cause i hate the cr&p Acer installs. Should i use the Windows 7 drivers after the install (from Windows update) or should i search the acer+intel site and use those?

    Is there any difference?

The "T`s" aren`t available in Europe yet, so the TZ is the next best thing!

That's NOT correct. In any event, I don't think that companies can treat the EU as a single region any more due to the size, languages, etc.

In my region (German-speaking EU Countries), there are several editions available (read: listed online but not actually in stock...):

    1410T (232G25N) ~ €450:
    Celeron Dual-Core SU2300 2x 1.20GHz • 2048MB • 250GB • Intel GMA X4500HD (IGP) max.384MB shared memory • 3x USB 2.0/Modem/Gb LAN/WLAN 802.11abgn/ Bluetooth • HDMI • 5in1 Card Reader (SD/MMC/MS/MS Pro/xD) • Webcam • 11.6" WXGA glare LED TFT (1366x768) • Windows 7 Home Premium • Li-Ionen-Akku (6 Zellen) • 1.40kg

    1810T "Update" (734G32N) ~ €560:

And since nobody has got ahold of a 1810T yet, we could just say they are not available ... yet :)

I'm purchasing an 1810tz soon and wondered how much bloatware from acer to expect. Is it best to do a fresh install and is it possible to make restore discs without including the bloatware?

    Quote from: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1111/14/

"If you plan on running Windows 7, then TRIM will be a key feature to help keep the Kingston SSDNow V Series 40GB Boot Drive running at a continued high performance level. As we mentioned previously in the article, Kingston said that this feature is planned for down the road, so we can only take their word for that. Intel's TRIM supporting firmware just came out today, so hopefully Kingston's won't be too far behind."

It should just like the G1... We'll find out as soon as I get mine ;)

$130 USD SKU of the Kingston 40GB SSD just came out. No signs of the $30 USD mail-in rebate though:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139081

I remember seeing a $30 MIR at ZZF for some SSD's but I'm unable to find it right now.

I think Newegg is holding off on the $115 USD SKU until the $130 USD SKU sells out...

^^^ Newegg shell shocker preview shows it will be on sale on the 11th

    http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemai...ickDeals&cm_mmc=AFC-SlickDeals-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA

Edit: It's 129.99, and now has a $20 rebate available. The rebate is valid until the 13th so it may be combinable with the shell shocker deal on Wednesday morning.

vvv Edited because it looks like Newegg has been shuffling things around, the price on the 11th is currently unknown.

    Nice! You found it!

I found the $20.00 MIR also on Newegg & Kingston's site:

    http://images10.newegg.com/uploadfilesfornewegg/rebate/SH/Kingston20-139-081Nov9Nov1309USrw16.pdf
    http://kingston.com/rebates/newegg/20536ne.asp

I went ahead and UPS Next Day'ed one of them today just to get my hands on it and shove it into the 1410. Should have it here by tomorrow. Come 11/11, I might order a second one. Looks like the rebate limit is TWO per household... Nice. $95 USD is still a great deal. Granted that's $2.375 USD/GB (relatively high) but it's under the $100 USD price point...

    Cheers,
    Kermee

Hi, I'm from spain too, but I live in germany :p

Well, here this 1810t su7300 looks like a mistery, many pretend to sell it but nobody has seen one yet.
I hope it will come when they promised...so in two weeks.

Unfortunately I will have to live with the german keyboard :(

I was not so convinced with the su4100, or the su3500 they sell in spain so I am trying to buy the su7300 here. I think the su7300 will arrive to spain in a couple of months...

I have the feeling that the prices of su7300 from acer went down before they could start selling the su4100, specially because they had to wait until windows 7 appeared.
And now they would like to sell that stock before they start with the su7300

    Saludos.

    Hola,
I know how you feel. I live in Austria but my mother tounge is English and thus I prefer my OS in English. However... I do need to write in German too, so I need the German keyboard.

Amazingly enough, when I ordered my XPS M1330 directly from Dell, I was able to request a German keyboard and an English OS... :D

I would gladly pay a few € more to be able to "custom order" an 1810TZ directly from Acer so that I could arrange for a similar multi-region configuration...

I decided to go with clear protection on the lid of my 1810T over the carbon fiber. The Invisible Shield from Zagg is $29.99 with about $10 shipping. Way too much money. So instead I bought a 12" x 60" sheet of 3M clear protective film (clear car bra material and the same type of stuff Zagg uses) for about $33 shipped and I will cut my own cover and have lots of spare material to put on other things. :D

    Hi,

I heard some people talking about keyboards here but it was not so clear for me in the end.
So what I think is that there is no keyboards yet for the 1810t, and then some other models have compatible keyboards, right?

My desktop at work has german keyboard so I'm used to it. Nevertheless I have a spanish configuration and then I have to guess sometimes where are the keys I'm looking for. This comes basically because I dont like the "qwertz" but the "qwerty"

Eventually I would like to have at least an english keyboard for the 1810t, so if some of you know which and how , please tell me.

    Regards.

Sounds like an idea. I was considering the Zagg one.

Where did you get the 3M protective film from?
