For those of you who did a fresh Windows install, which drivers did you install? Acer website has 3 different webcam drivers and more than one chipset drivers, etc.
Also, what drivers do you recommend installing over Windows 7's default drivers?
Thanks in advance. -

Hi,
I wanted to undervolt my 1810tz with SU4100 (Win7 64bit) but I cant get it working. I tried your tweak guide der_mali and I tried both RMClock and CrystalCPUID. But I guess your tweak guide is only for vista and the SU3500, which is like the SU7300 a C2D and not like the SU4100 a Pentium without that Speedstep thing? There are some questions I cant answer right, maybe you can update your guide for the SU4100 too? So I guess the VID for the SU4100 is 6,5 not 7 and I guess it does not support 0,875V too? CrystalCPUID seems to do nothing at all when I try changing multiplier or VCore. And RMClock does only have a 6x multiplier dont know why, and it only shows 0,9V.
Another question I have is, is the SU7300 not much better than the SU4100 just because it supports that other Speedstep sting with 800MHz and 0,875V? -
Speedstep won't save battery life at all, it will rather consume more power because it switches too late to the next multiplier and thus taking longer to complete a task(for more info ask scott.ager in the undervolting thread) but what seems to be missing because of missing speedstep is the low SuperLFM voltage. What voltage does CPU-Z report?
-
CrystalCPUID does not do anything at all, when using RMC I cant go unter 0,9V at all which is the standard VCore without any VCore tool at all. So CPUZ shows 0,9V@1,2GHz and I cant change multiplier with RMC too it just has 6,0X which is 1,2GHz.

And I say it again this is caused by Win7. Win7 and Vista PassMark score results are different and not comparable. That cpubenchmark.net site is basically useless because they don't register which OS is used.
@maf9k
RMC doesn't support half multipliers out of the box, check the undervolting thread linked in the tutorial to find out how to circumvent this limitation. But honestly I don't see much benefit in undervolting su4100 at all, because 0.9V seems to be the lowest VID it supports and the 6.5x VID won't be much higher if at all. A hardware MOD would be the only way to bring it down further. -
-
Anything to that screenshots I posted? How can I change my SU4100 to 1,3GHz@0,875V? Or is it not possible with the SU4100? But why is there only a 6,0X multiplier what is 1,2GHz?
-
The su4100 reportedly doesn't support SuperLFM mode which would have a VID of 0.875V. So you can't use 0.875V because it isn't provided by the BIOS. It would only be selectable if su4100 supported SuperLFM mode. The missing 6.5x multiplier is caused by RMC not knowing half-multipliers. 6.5 is a half-multiplier.
Edit:
But honestly, I wouldn't speculate too much about this. It would save a few minutes of battery life at best if it was possible to use [email protected]. -
UPS just dropped off a present for my Acer 1410...
Surgery tonight!
Cheers,
Kermee -
But summarizing that means the SU4100 is a lot worse than the SU7300 or solo C2D (SU3500) in energy consumption. So there is no way running the SU4100 1,3GHz(6,5x)@0,875V or even 0,9V?
-
It is possible to run su4100 [email protected]
You would have to check this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235824 for info about how to use half-multipliers. I read about it somewhere but don't recall exactly what to do, as I don't have use for that info. It's best to either read that thread or ask in that thread how to use half-multipliers in RMC.
Edit:
I wouldn't go that far to say "a lot worse" as it wouldn't save that much power. -
*sigh* I can't activate a fresh install of Windows 7 with my 1410 product key.

Acer 1410 uses SLIC/SLP to pre-activate Windows 7. There is no activation over the wire. You need to use the Acer Windows 7 Home Premium OEM key to activate and appropriate Acer digital certificate...
Cheers,
Kermee -
I managed it.
-
Has anyone done a Passmark Benchmark for the su2300? I did mine and its score was 460, with win7 home premium that it came with.
Is this too low, I also notice that the CPU load is 20-30% when idle. (This is after I installed a couple apps office/C# compiler).
What about battery live, Battery Bar shouls 4:07 max.
Thanks.
David. -
That score of 1004 is for the CPU, not the overall score. The 1810T got an overall score of 478. -
-
I thought it would be better than that. I have a U81-a Asus and was thinking of this as I thought it would be better than that. I even have a backlit keyboard mod and in entertainment mode 40% screen brightness I get 4:24 with Battery Bar. now this isn't the front end but real usage down to a drained battery too. If this holds true of these I'd have to rethink getting one as I was reallyhoping for that close to 6 hours.........

JR BACK IN STOCK with the su7300 1810t-8638....finally.
ordered and waiting.! -
Thanks John, that's right, I thought something was wrong with my system!
-
I accidentally left my system running all day and drain the battery to 2%. Now I am recharging the battery, and Battery bar says full lifetime of 6:22. So may be the full discharge helped it to recalibrate!!!
Thanks.

Hi All,
I finished installing the Kingston 40GB SSD into the 1410 and cloned the old drive (Western Digital 160GB Blue Scorpio 5400 RPM). What a *huge* difference the 1410 acts like now... I posted some information in the SSD thread here on NBR but here are the pix...

I haven't read the entire thread, so forgive me if somebody has already posted this query--- has anybody compared the overall performance of acer 1410 with that of the MSI U210 with AMD® Yukon AMD Athlon Neo X2 Dual-Core L335 1.6GHz Processor? 'coz i am debating whether to buy the 1410 or the U210.
I hope I'm not off-topic...Thanks -
SOLD OUT! -
i apologize in advance for the noob question..
does anyone know if the 1810t-8638(4gb) will benefit much from an upgrade to faster ram? it comes with 4gb...am i wrong in assuming that this is already a dual channel setup as it comes from the factory?
i read about people upgrading to dual channel configs on their 1810t...but im unclear as to whether it is an upgrade to just the ram speed or also single channel to dual channel.
thanks for any help you guys can offer...this is an awesome forum! -

I've been using my laptop for a few weeks now and I've been pretty happy with it. I did notice that my battery life is good, but I've never gotten more than 5 and a half hours out of a full charge. I figured it took a few cycles to get a full charge, but I've charged the laptop at least 6 times and still can't get more than 5 hours.
Any suggestions on how to get the advertised 8 hours? -
-
-
Currently, with full charge on my 1810t, wifi on, screen at second to lowest brightness, battery bar tells me I have 5 h, 18 minutes, while windows tells me 8 h 18 minutes. Go figure.
-
-
With the "optimizing battery life and undervolting" tweaks mentionend in Timeline Tweaks I get 6:33 with moderate use(mostly web browsing, some office, casual gaming, Wifi always on) at 40% brightness. Vista/Win7 battery life estimations are complete crap. Battery Bar is the most accurate we have right now.
@elhefe
It should already run in dual channel mode with 4GB. You could check if it's 667MHz or 800MHz RAM. 800MHz improves gaming performance. Latencies are unimportant. -
Thought this would be a good thread to ask this question. Mods -- feel free to move/delete if inappropriate.
I'm looking for a decent, general-use netbook with a 11.6" screen. Not heavy into graphics/video, but do want decent performance. I currently have an Asus 1000h (Atom 270, 10" screen) and find it's a little small for me, and the performance is only middling. My budget is < $600.
I've read this entire thread (took a long time!) and it seems like the 1810TZ is a pretty good machine. Is the general consensus on this machine overall good? What other Acer (or other brand) netbooks should I be looking at? I like the specs on the 1810TZ, but it's one of those things that unless you own it, you really don't know it.
Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -

@ms960:
I've been very happy with my 1810t. Although, the battery life has not come close to the advertised 8 hours. I'm been getting 5 and a half. -
Is an 11.6 inch screen really noticeably different than a 10.1" screen? -
-
And there's a huge difference with 1.5" more real estate. -
-
Lower latency tends to be more unstable when overclocking and the RAM voltage can't be increased without hardware MOD. Lower latency RAM is also more expensive and not worth buying for the meager performance increase. If someone might want to do the overclocking MOD one day it's better to stay on the save side imo
@elhefe
Samsung is a solid performer in my 1810t. I flashed the stock 667MHz module to 800MHz and bought a second 800MHz module off eBay. -
When playing 720p in wmp the cpu usage is 10%
in KMplayer is 40%
Why is there a big difference?
Also can I increase the quality of the movie?
There are some little squares .....especially when the background is black -
Lots of talk and disappointment about battery life thruout many threads here at NoteBookReview. Certainly not just with the Acer 1810 series.
Seems like all manufacturer's battery-life specs should be labeled
"under optimal conditions", or "with maximum power-savings".
As unrealistic as they are, the specs still have some value for comparing various models.
~Asus UL30A 12 hours = 9.6 hours with typical use
~Acer Timeline 8 hours = 5.3 hours with typical use
~Lenovo S10 5 hours = 3.6 hours with typical use -
thanks for the info
....amazon has it listed in stock now...but at $749!!!
i think its a mistake though...it says 2 new from $599...but the price is listed at $749.60 -
Its correct alright, it`s just from another seller through amazon!
I really cant get my head around this price, i guess they know better!
JR has both black and blue in stock if ur interested!
I`m actually impressed by them , since nobody seems to have them, and they got both!
