    Should I install W7 64 bit or W7 32 bit on the 1410?

I will install the Home Premium version.

If you'll have 4GB of RAM, then definitely the 64-bit. Otherwise, I'd stick to 32-bit since there are still a few driver & software issues with 64-bit.

    Kermee,

How would the X-25M G2 compare to say Runcore IV Pro? Or is Runcore not a compatible SSD for the 1810? I don't think Runcore uses TRIM, I could be wrong on that but googling it had others asking the similar question but not too many answers.

Is X-25M G2 the top of the line as far as 4K read/write speeds, or is there something better or a close 2nd?

Is it save to assume that X-25M G2 could be used in the yet to be release 1820PT tablet?

Kermee, one last thing. Did you do a CrystalDiskMark test with the default HDD that your 1810T came with? Or does anyone know what the 4K write speeds are without the upgrade to X-25M G2?

    TIA :)

Ok thanks, I'll try that out. I installed the latest intel driver available as soon as I got the laptop in which I guess you're implying is the source of the problem? Will give it a shot, thanks again!

If I run AIM/MSN/ICQ/Yahoo/Skype and surfing, will I use up 2 GB of the memory? Can the SU2300 handle it?

I am hoping for my AS1410 this week.

The read/write speeds on a "normal" 5400@ HDD were around 0.4mb/sec (read) and 1,1 mb/sec write

So its a huge difference :)

I got a X25-m myself, and i`m 100% impressed. No vibrations, no feat, a bit better battery and most important of all NO noise!

There could be some other SSD drives with better write values, but Intel is at the top with their read marks!

No, I don't see the Acer logo twice (with a disclaimer that I have HD password set).

I get the HD security list instead, after the Acer logo is displayed.

I ordered a Blue 1410 SU2300 from Fry's and got it in one day! Impressed! Here is my impression, it is a beautiful little laptop, love the color and the brushed metal palm rest. The keyboard is great, no flex at all in mine, it is actually one of the nicest keyboard I've used, desktop or laptop. The trackpad surface is AWESOME, my finger just glides across it, but I will say the scrolling functionality isn't too much to my liking, seems to scroll kinda jumpy, not smooth and fluid. The screen looked kinda washed out at first, but after I turned down the brightness setting in the Graphic Card properties is helped. Overall I am VERY impressed, especially for the price ($399).

Though, there is just one thing I can't live with, and that is the size of the screen, it is just too small for me. Such as in the browser, if I leave the zoom/text settings to default the text is too small for me to read comfortably and if I increase the Zoom to say 125% the text is then readable, but I then have to do too much scrolling, up down, left right. I guess it kinda depends on what you are purchasing the 1410/1810 laptop for, I was going to try and use it as one of my main laptops, but even if it was just a "use out of the house" laptop, I would still want a bigger screen, at least 13" preferabably 14". I am gonna go back to my first consideration which is the Vaio CW. But just to reiterate, if you don't mind the small screen, the 1410/1810 is beautiful laptop in every other way!

Thanks to everyone on here for being so helpful in answering my questions!

got a red 1410 for my gf as a bday gift. I'd say it's almost the perfect laptop for her, but the left mouse button seems a little mushy. I can click it lightly but it won't register the click even though you have the sensation of clicking. you have to push a little hard to get it to register. the right button is perfectly fine, registers with any amount of force. I wanted to exchange it, but she tells me it's perfectly fine for her since she double taps the pad to click normally if she's not using her mouse, but still.... it's one of those things that would drive me crazy if it was mine..... sadly i got it from newegg so i can't go to a store and exchange so easily.....

And one more 1410T owner to the table :)

Received mine today, ordered this model because in Portugal only 1410 is on sale (SU2300;3GB;160GB), not the 1810T(Z). Only thing i will regret is the bigger batery of the 1810, but nothing i can't live without.. Here was a bit pricey, retailing at 450€.. would bet if/when 1810 is on sale here will be 600€ ish..

This 1410 was exaclty what i was looking after, as a IT Professional, spend most of the time on the road and need a portable, thats really portable. This is really slim, but feels a bit heavier that i expected.. Constrction quality is very good (no chasis flex) and keyboard is great to work too (a bit of flex, but nothing that can bother my tiping). Power button don't feel loose as alredy been pointed sometimes.

Had the infamous Sony TX-5 back awhile, and sold it when i saw this ealier netbook explosion, and this little machine absolutly does a better job. I can read text better is this one, keyboard feels better and even build quality (feel free to throw tomatoes) feels sturdier...
One thing that surprised me was how small is the power brick.

    Quick questions then, if allowed:

    - Came with BIOS v3115, should i upgrade to latest or no real improvments ?
    - Worth of changing ram to Dual Channel (will use either way 32bit w7) or can't see really big difference in Dual Channel conf ?
    - Planning on using great 1810 fan utility of this forum to lower fan noise, do you have some recomended settings for SU2300 ?

Sorry the big post, but i felt on the obligation to post my opinions, since i decided to buy it thanks to your posts, and when i finnaly had it it felt like i alredy had one...

Bear in mind i`m from Greece.
I payed 209 euros for this drive, which is around 300$

I saw a listing in amazon and newegg and they should be around 250$.

I think that is good to pay a few $$ more to get a tad more GB , since SSD`s perform better when there`s some free space left.

I`m currently using 25 out of the 74 (real GB of the drive) and the performance is just awesome.

Cold boot -> Mozilla open with Google -> 30 seconds!

First post on here after reading around for some time :)

How can I utilize the GSM slot on my AS1410-2285?

    a) Can I make calls through the computer?
    b) Can I use my data plan without tethering?
    c) Do I need to update any drivers?
    d) Do I need new software?
    e) How can I make a duplicate of my SIM card (i.e. to keep it in my computer full time)?

    Well, crap.

In the span of a week (or so), I've bought an 1810T, bought a 160GB G2 the day the 1810T arrived, and over the weekend found someone selling a MacBook white 2.16ghz C2D, 1gb RAM, 120gb, 802.11N for $200 with 10 months of warranty left.

Now I'm debating whether or not to sell off my week old, barely used 1810T (as in hand-on-keyboard time is less than 4 hours), as this MacBook can do what I need, and getting the majority of my money back on the Acer almost seems like a good idea.

Then again, a picture's worth a thousand words, right? All of these things seem great in concept until you see the Acer sitting next to the MacBook and reallize just how much happier you are with the TimeLine. I'll actually put the Acer above the MacBook in terms of build quality, in all honesty....although I prefer the less-glossy MacBook Screen.

    Hi thanx,

Are you sure it's not the other way around with as far as the 4K values are concerned? Cause, it's the 4K values that really matter as far as "real time performance" is concerned.

The 4K write speeds are really impressive at over 44MB/s, the best i'd seen was over 16MB/s on Runcore Pro IV on a super slow dell Yet, the 4K read speeds at 11.72MB/s are way off considering that the write speeds are almost 4 times faster.

On that same Runcore that I saw the over 16MB/s in 4K write it got over 15MB/s in read speeds.

I'm not thrilled that the X-25M 2G gets such low 4K read speeds when, the rest of the scores are so impressive. I would love to know why the discrepancy on the final numbers.

    Intel X25-M 160GB 34nm MLC G2 SSD CrystalDiskMark 2.2 [LegitReviews.com]

That's normal with the Intel controllers. The write speeds for 4kB is almost triple the read speeds. Nothing compares to it in the MLC world.

The read speeds of an Intel X-25M G2 in random 4kB is still about 25% faster than a Runcore IV Pro on a good day at 20MB+/sec read...

    Cheers,
    Kermee

    Nice!

Good link as well. While those ramdom 4K read/write numbers are beyond impressive, it was done on a desktop with a bleeding edge 3.33 GHz Core i7 975 Extreme Processor and other goodies to follow suit.

I'm sold on the X-25M G2. I was just concerned why the Ramdom 4K read #'s on 1810T running X-25M G2, were lower than Runcore Pro IV run on a Dell mini 10 with atom N270 cpu. Which i'm sure if the Runcore were run on the 1810T its 4K read scores would be higher.

I actually had the dell mini10 with a 256gb runcore pro iv. I returned both withing a week and jumped ship over here. At the moment I do not have my coveted 1820PT cause it has not been released.

I just want to be prepared to pull the trigger on a X-25M G2 and make sure it is the top of the line.

Thinking about getting the Gateway version of the Acer 1410 with the SU2300 because I hate shiny bezels.

Gateway is slow with the firmware updates. Do you all think it's possible to flash the Gateways with the Acer firmware? I would like to just turn it into an Acer :) but I don't know if that would work.

Thats the only game hell be playing on it and will also use for just webbrowsing and some standard def you tube vids.Any info here would be greatly appreciated.

Seems like my assumptions were wrong. I went through the internet a bit, and realised that 20(read)/50(write) for the Intel X25-m G2 are pretty much one of the fastest readings.

I get some differences when i run my benchmarks with the AC Power on/off.
Did a test last night and got 14mb read and 46mb write with the power connected.

I guess it could be the Intel AHCI driver, but i also tried Windows 7 standard driver and still got the same results. Nevertheless it`s still an impressing performance!

Somebody told me that Samsungs/OCZ`s etc get much lower speeds

    Hi there!
Does anyone know if there's a list of changes associated with each BIOS release? 3303 seems quite a jump from 3120!
And is there an alternative way to install a BIOS not within Windows?

A few questions about the 1810T.

    - I take it this is the most powerful of the series because it has the dual SU7300 (as opposed to 1410's SU2300 and 1810TZ's SU4100)
    - Anyone know where you can get the best price for the 1810T?
    - It is unlikely this will show up in a Black Friday sale, yes?
    - Someone with the single core 1400 said there was a problem using the
microphone, has anyone had this problem?
    - Any particular problems running Ubuntu on this?

I flashed a Packard Bell Dot M/U with BIOS v3303 from Acer 1410/1810 and it went just fine.

Finally got my 1810T-8638 (Black) last week and been loving it so far!

    Just wondering:

    1. Has anyone tried to put the 3M Carbon Fiber vinyl on the 1810T?? Is the heating during vinyl application OK for the laptop? (Someone already had problems with the water-based application of the clear film) More importantly, how does it look?? :)

    2. Anyone actually installed a 3G module into this? (or replaced the bluetooth)? I saw another post on this but it's not too clear on what I'd need, how to do this and how difficult it will be... If I could get a 3G module safely into my 1810T it'll really be absolutely perfect.

    Hi, all!
Any suggestions how to attach 3G module to my new 1410? :)
    Thanx in advance!

PS: Just installed Bluetooth 2.1 and replaced Intel 5100 WiFi with 5150 WiFi/WiMAX. Both of them work good

Alright, I'm having trouble making out the differences between the different models =/

I have 2 stores selling the Acer 1810 for 500e. They seem to have the exact same specs: SU4100, 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, 5600MaH battery, etc. (In the first store they call it the Acer 1810TZ and in the second store it's called Acer 1810T)

Are they in any way different, or did the store just mess it up?

    Thanks

I guess you are writting to us from Europe? If it is a yes, then its pretty sure that they model is a 1810 TZ

No 1810T`s have been available -yet- in Europe

Also since the specs note a SU4100 CPU then its defo a TZ

    Yes.

Ubuntu works really well on this machine. See this thread for more info about Linux on this machine.

One question conserning the 1410/1810. Has anyone noticed static noise when connected to an headphone/earphone? The noise is slight and isnt a problem when music's playing, but when having no output it could be heard. Muting the output doesnt help, and seems like the analog output lacks enough sheilding or has bad grounding. Using a bluetooth headphone adapter solves the problem and isnt a major consern for me, but I wish it didnt have noise on my sound output and am curious if its a single problem on my acer or a popular one.
