Ok, I have to ask again, is it safe to just update the bios by clicking on the exe? Or do I have to make a bootable USB or something?

Yea.. stock is being depleted everywhere.
And nobody is offering "Ship when available" or "Notify me when in stock".
The 1410 SU2300 & the 1810T listings are being removed from vendor's sites when sold out. So interesting.

In the US, I'm pretty sure the 1410 SU2300 is being replaced with the slower Intel 743 processor. Its all about marketing differentiation.

I've been predicting more expensive 1810 models using both the SU7300 and the SU9400 CPUs to maintain category leadership, and to further differentiate from the 1810TZ.
Clearly, Acer under-valued the current 1810T SU7300. Just look at the pricing and features of 11.6" models from Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, Fujitsu, HP, and Asus.

The new more expensive 1810 models may have DDR3 8GB max RAM, built-in 3G networking, larger hard drives 500GB & 640GB, 10 to 12 hour battery, etc. Introduction might coincide with the Acer 1820PT Tablet on December tenth (throughout Europe).
    IMHO

Way easy, is to purchase an inexpensive external USB 2.5" hard drive enclosure.
I've seen them for $15-$20 US.
Use the free EASEUS Disk Copy (not their ToDo Backup) to make a clone onto your new Scorpio.
Then resize and add partitions as desired with your additional HD capacity.

It is a small cost to facilitate the process.
Plus you can then reuse your old hard drive by swapping it into the USB enclosure.

    Hi2all,

anyone with PCMark Advantage here? The following scores are for a stock* 1810TZ w/ SU4100, 3GB 800Mhz & WD Scorpion 320GB HDD:

    PCMarkSuite 2888 PCMarks
    Memories Suite 1666
    TV and Movies Suite 1836
    Gaming Suite 1537
    Music Suite 3321
    Communications Suite 2963
    Productivity Suite 2660
    HDD Test Suite 2792

I'd be interested to compare it with another SU4100 as well as the SU7300s...

I sent back my 1810T yesterday to JR. I don't know if I'll replace it with something from Asus or Lenovo, or hold out for the 1810 Tablet...I'm going to miss its obscene battery life. While I hope none of you guys have to go through with it, I'll let you know how JR's RMA process is. I'm returning it for a refund since they don't show any being in stock, but my wife managed to throw away the internal piece of cardboard (I have the retail box and the outer brown box)...hopefully I don't get hit with a 15% restocking fee on account of a $0.25 piece of cardboard.

FYI for folks here who've put X-25M G2 (80GB or 160GB) drives into their 1410/1810's...

Intel has released a new firmware (02HD) and firmware update tool (version 1.5) to fix the issue with the firmware update process on 34nm (G2) Intel® X25-M SSDs (80GB and 160GB).

Intel recommends that end users Download this firmware update tool and upgrade your SSD

    • This new firmware provides Trim support (on 80GB and 160GB) and better sequential write performance (on 160GB)

    • If you experience any issues during the upgrade process contact Intel Customer Support

    Download Link: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18363

P.S. -- I'm checking to see if the latest IRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technologies) 9.x Beta 64-bit Vista/Win7 AHCI Drivers will work with our notebook later today or this week. Supposedly, it has TRIM support and is *MUCH* improved speed over the much older Microsoft AHCI drivers required for TRIM support.

    Awesome news Kermee!

I`ve been waiting for TRIm support for quite some time now :)

So what you are saying is that Intel Released also a new IRSt driver?
Cause i`ve been using the windows 7 ahci drivers since intel`s doesn`t support auto trim

Yeah. There's a beta Intel RST driver floating around which has TRIM support, and has much better 4kB read/write also over the Microsoft AHCI drivers. I'll guinea pig it and see if I start losing data ;)

Backing up my drive now before I do the firmware update... I'll report back!

    Cheers,
    Kermee

Thanks Kermee. I've been waiting for that update. Will go flash now.

    *edit*

Back from the flash. No problems with the flash. Is the ToolBox still MIA?

    Old firmware:
    252.8 ; 101.6
    203.8 ; 102.9
    15.22 ; 29.30

    New firmware:
    247.0 ; 109.8
    190.5 ; 108.5
    15.21; 29.64

I'm up for trying some new storage drivers. I keep my stuff backed up religiously, so it's not like I'm going to lose something.

Umm...pop the drive in another computer? USB optical drive (which is what I would use...but I have one)?

There's probably a way to make it work off a bootable flash drive.

I used Grub4DOS w/SysLinux to boot the ISO off a USB stick. This is what my menu.lst looks like for the Intel ISO entry:

    Code:
title Intel SSD Firmware Update 02HD
    find --set-root /isos/110902HD88208850.iso
    map /isos/110902HD88208850.iso (hd32)
    map --hook
    root (hd32)
    chainloader (hd32)
    Cheers,

Amazon is really attempting to capitalize on the law of "supply-and-demand". They have the nerve to have the Acer 1410 (SU2300) listed for $549! Others must be discovering the value of these little gems. And, it appears that several retailers are sold out and apparently not planning on restocking them. The indications are that they will be replaced with a unit with a lower-quality processor, but at more money. Anyone else have a similar sense?

B&H has them back in stock as of today at $399. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&A=ShowProduct&sku=654247&is=REG&Q=
I also found the blue model at Fry's for $399.

And, yes, I finally bought one from B&H today! I have a WD7200 320GB drive that I plan to put in it, but would also like to upgrade the memory. Does this configuration look correct: PC26400 (CT25664AC800) 200P DDR2 SODIMM?

"Ruby Red" arrives on Thursday, and my first task is to hook it up to a projector and see if I can read the notes view on a PowerPoint presentation. If so, I'm absolutely thrilled! If not, it's back to sorting out the 13.3" models and finding something suitable.

Thanks for all the help and information, guys!

    Hi,

i received my 1410 yesterday and i love it. it has got the SU2300 processor and windows 7 64bit.

however there is one thing thats bothering me: according to cpu-z the vcore is always 0,975 volts and does never change.
should the cpu not vary the vcore between 0,90 volts and 0,985 volts?

on the first page in the comparison chart it says "locked" at a vcore of 0,985.

so now, what is right? does anyone have the same cpu and confirm that the voltage does not change?

also, is it normal that the fans are always running quite audible when plugged in to the a/c adapter?

    thanks for your prompt answers.

    cheers,
    efco

I can`t help you with the Voltage, but i know the solution to your fan-problem.

Read through the Timeline Tweaks thread, there is a solution for the always-on fan with AC plugged

yeah, thanks. i already solved that issue by installing 1810tray utility. works like a charme.

however that voltage issue, if it is an issue at all bothers me.

with 100% battery and some internetsurfing windows 7 tells me that the battery lasts approx. 4 hours.... seems a bit low for me, even if it is only the 4400 maH battery.

I get a solid 4 hours out of my battery under "normal" conditions, but never much more than that. I average around 10-11 watts using Linux. Since I have not personally used Windows for more than an hour since I've owned my AS1410, I can't say for certain, but you should be able to do a little better in Windows. Still, I wouldn't expect 6 hours of use under "normal" conditions.

Yesterday I received my HDMI cable and tested it on the 1810TZ.

There is no problem at all to get video in the HDMI monitor, and for audio it can be selected easily from Windows Media Player options-devices or for example BS-player-Preferences-Audio-Devices.

But when I tried Media center I discovered a bug: First I tried to simply select HDMI from the configuration menu in WMC, but it didn't work and I also got no sounds from the laptop speakers. Then I opened controlpanel audio settings and there are three devices:
    -Speakers
    -HDMI Audio
    -Optical digital audio output.

Usually the speakers have the selected mark, even if the user define in the program, as I did in Media player, that the sound must go to the HDMI, because the selection shows the default output. This is good because you got the Music on the HDMI device and other system sounds on the laptop speakers.

But when under Media Center the HDMI is selected, the control panel selection from Speakers to... Optical output!!!!

So, you got no sound at all.

The solution is to manually select HDMI in control panel. But it is clearly a WMC bug, at least with this Intel Chipset HDMI output.

Ok, so the latest Intel video drivers had that little glitch of having the video distorted after waking up from hiberination sometimes. I downgraded the video drivers but now when i plug my gf's laptop to her TV via HDMI the colors are completely washed out, it's almost all white with only the darkest colors showing thru on the TV. I tried going back to the latest intel drivers but now I have a new problem, they don't actually seem to install. It goes thru the process, but after reboot it's obvious that the drivers didn't install? I'm confused :(

Just wondering, how come your Temp does not show a numerical value? Is it because your not running the newer CrystalDiskInfo version 3.2.0 or its just not detected regardless?

Could WinSetupFromUSB be run to flash the newest .iso FW via usb boot or perhaps another usb boot program?

Last, has your 4K read/write speeds remained the same or only those with the 160gb X25-M could possibly see a difference or was it only on sequential write?

is anybody driving a 1920x1200 monitor and how are your experiences?

    how about 1920x1080?

trying to decide if i get a 1920x1080 (lists as supported in the specs) or 1920x1200 (preferred, but not listed as supported)

ps: why does search suck so bad on this site? :)

I tried the 1810TZ last night with my BenQ FP241W (1920x1200). When connecting via HDMI, the BenQ "reports" 1920x1080, which is no surprise considering it's an HDMI port. However, the bottom & top of my "Desktop" are chopped off...

I stil have to play around with both the notebook & monitor, but it isn't looking good... :(

Fwiw, I also connect my Cable TV's HD mediabox to the same monitor and it plays 1080i content perfectly, including letterboxing at top & bottom (1200-1080 pixels' worth)

thanks traveller, good info. I'm waiting for my 1410 to arrive. So I can't check it, but maybe there is a resolution setting option on your acer's display settings to support the external monitor at 1920x1200.

So if I can find a 1410 with the SU2300, should I jump on it? I don't want to shell out the extra cash for the 1810.

All that I can find on Amazon are the 3500 and 743 processor - oddly enough, the 743 actually benchmarks a tiny bit higher than the 3500 according to a link posted in this thread earlier.

Just picked up an 1810T-8968 from Futureshop for $650 as a Christmas present:
    64bit Windows 7 Home Premium
    SU7300
    4GB (2/2) DDR2 667 SDRAM
    320GB SATA hard drive, 5400RPM
    5-in-1 card reader
    11.6" HD (1366 x 768) CineCrystal TFT display
Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
    Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 5100 (dual-band quad-mode 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N) Bluetooth® 2.1+EDR
    Webcam
    62.16 W 5600 mAh 6-cell Li-ion battery pack, 30W charger
It's the silver model with the Olympic logo and looks very sharp

Looking forward to scraping off all the crapware and loading on the good stuff.

1410 just arrived... typing from it now.

the size and screen resolution is awesome. i'm surprised how loud the speakers are compared to my girlfriends toshiba netbook. the trackpad will take some getting used to, it seems a little sticky, is that left over from the sticker i removed? or will it remain sticky?

other than those initial thoughts, even with all the bloat, the stock 2 gigs of ram, i'm already running more apps and full aero effects just fine, my girlfriends toshiba nb205, which cost the same as this (+$80 if you count the upgrade from starter to home) would be choking already. i'm very pleased.

thanks for all the advice guys

After a few beers and a bag of potato chips, your fingers will fly across that track pad like greased lightening!

    Enjoy!

As I posted earlier, B&H apparently just received a shipment of 1410 SU 2300's, and also Fry's has the blue available. Amazon has the exact same unit on their site for $549. My new Ruby Red 1410 arrives from B&H tomorrow and I'm already plotting to upgrade the RAM and hard drive. :D

RoninTech, you will love it ! I got mine (same as your's) since 8 days, I paid $679cdn (it was not in stock at future at that time, and the staff was not able to tell me anything ). -- that $30 more was more then worth it for not having to wait and haul my HP pavilion 8.1 + pound --. I have not totaly tweek it yet (mostly took out part of Acer bloatwear and install 1810Tray), but I get around 7.5 hours from the battery from surfing, spreadsheet, video (average 3 hours out of the 7), language softwear, etc. The 1810T(Z) display is simply amazing.

Did you get the olympic edition ? Let me know if you find suitable sleeve or bag. I went arround (Best-Buy, futureShop, Microbytes, etc ) and could not find a non bulky protection, a sleeve with some regidity would be awsome -Lean and sturdy is the goal. I got a planner cover for it (AT-A-GLANCE pages sizes 9x11'') from stapples/Bureau en gros in Montreal for only $11.78 including taxes. Makes a very discret sleeve that will at least protect it from sratches untill I find a proper one (I took the inner zipper out, added buble enveloppe for extra protection).

I love the design from PDair, but wondering if it offers any regid protection other then from scratches. Please comment If someone seen or got this sleeve : http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10900000_11000318_11000612&products_id=16221

Looking for an app that would show cpu and memory info like the gage gadget. suggestions welcome ! Thank you to all of you for all the great info on this forum :)

Its actually for the wife but I'm very impressed. It is the silver olympic model. I just tried some HD with MPC-HC running under DXVA and it barely broke a sweat. Nuked all the bloatware and put on the usual open source suspects and all is good. I wanna give it to her now just to see her reaction but she won't let me. :D

As for sleeve, I'm using a Tuari Neoprene Netbook Sleeve I got from Target for around $11-$12. They advertise that it "fits most netbooks up to 10.2", but it measures 11.5" x 9" x 0.5" and fits the AS1410/AS1810 great.

I either drop it in a messenger bag or carry it like a book.

    Shown here with a 11.6" Aspire One/AS751h.
