Maybe it has already been said, but just a quick note on the Intel Celeron M ULV 743: it has a TDP of 10W!
It's a single core processor that uses as much power as the newer SU dual cores ones.

I've had the same experience with both my internal writer as well as an external one. Sometimes one drive will recognize the disc while the other won't. The most common reason is that the burn process will start and just as quickly abort. Thus the rationale for being certain to take one from the middle of the stack that you know is pristine.
I find that most often I can eventually solve the problem with one of three steps: 1) reboot the system with the external writer attached and turned on, 2) some CD/DVD discs need to be formatted before the burner will recognize and write to them, and 3) change the brand of CD that you are using.
I was made quite aware of #3 because I frequently burn multiple discs (both DVD and CD) of my partner's musical gigs. These are often given away as promotion, and consequently I am prone to buy the cheapest products I can find. Not all brands are created alike, and your burner simply may refuse to recognize them. Also, try using a different program or work-around to burn the discs. (Understand that I'm saying this as not yet having burned my own recovery discs because my brand new 1410 is sitting untouched.) -
Rum memtest86 on it, and it will power off if it overheats. -
I like Asus's take on this that charge doesn't engage until you are at 95% discharge. this pervents the constant top cycling increasing battery life overall. I am not sure with Acer how far you have to bring it down before charge kicks back in. -
Thanks for that info. I have done everything that you have suggested, except changing brands of disk.
I will try that in the morning. It is really funny that windows sees the drive and will read and write, but Acer recovery will not. -
Is there a tutorial for replacing the hard drive on the AS1410? I can't seem to find one, and I've hit a roadblock with the ribbon cable covering the HDD when I took the cover off.

I ended up finding it out on my own.
I got 7 Ultimate installed on my X-25M, Now the hard part is finding all the proper 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 Ultimate. Acer's website lists multiple versions depending on your hardware and I don't know which fits mine.
Edit: For example, there are 4 listed WiFi drivers and 3 listed webcam drivers. How do I know which is which, none of them install properly?
Edit: Nevermind, trial & errored it until I found the proper drivers. Does this model have Bluetooth? -
I then put a standard name brand into the burner and voila! The burner is happily humming along with the disc creation.

Is there any way to use two-finger flick instead of three-finger flick with the newest drivers from the Synaptics site? The driver version on the Acer download page is configured for two-finger, but it seems that Synaptics has since changed to three-finger flick in new versions.
-
i guess this is probably a problem with the OS, but i've had this problem 3 times in the last few days. when i downloaded each of these 3 files 3 seperate times, i got a quick message saying the file was corrupt. they all downloaded and installed fine, but then when i restart the computer after that, it does the whole check disk process... is this normal?
one of the times it was with midiyoke, which doesnt say if windows 7 is supported, but it worked anyway.
the other time, it was with a vst plugin, and the third time was with the bios update file?? but all of these seem to work fine
any thoughts why i get this "corrupt" message -

Thanks again -
While I was at the shack I also bought a new external drive.
Toshiba. Hooked it up and started burning.
Now I need to deal with Brainydeals thru Amazon and try to get some of my money back. LOL
The one I am sending back is: AGPtek Slim Lightscribe External Laptop Notebook Rewriteable CD and 8X DVD +/- R
Thanks for you help -
Does the recovery burning software that Acer provides allow for creating a recovery USB memory drive instead of a DVD? I'm more inclined to buy a thumb drive or two as opposed to an external DVD drive if this will work.
Can you recover this system from a recovery partition so that they only thing the external media would be good for was after physically replacing the hard drive? (not saying one shouldn't be prepared for that worst case situation).
I also see the approach in the Timeline Tweaks section on creating the recovery ISOs on another system using Virtual CD. That sounds like a good approach, but I haven't seen where it's been proven to work.
I have a 1410 ordered. I've always burned recovery media on new systems right away, but am considering otherwise with the 1410, simply because I don't ever anticipate using the external DVD drive for anything else (unless of course I had to replace the hard drive, at which time I could buy a DVD drive at that time if I had burned the media some other way).
I know ... watch me have to eat these words by not getting one ... Murphy's law! -
Have a 1410 alredy at 2 weeks use, great little machine, but lately the HD started do a constant and annoying hummin/wining that is very audible...
Alredy happened to any of you ? -
Me too. A I rather just pay acer 10 dollars to burn the dang things for me. Why do I want an external dvd player...I mean, those are being phased out anyway... Also, you can order a windows 7 professional upgrade cd for 40 dollars w/student discount, why shell out money just to burn this premium edition?
-
I seem to recall reading specific directions for using a flash drive. Will look for them when I have time. Since I already had an external burner, I didn't bother exploring that option.
jimk.......happy that you found a solution to your problem! Sorry it wasn't such an easy fix as I suggested, but at least we have one more option for the "list". -
-
does anyone know what happen to the 1810t....i can't find it on the manufactuer's website or on amazon...
-
Amazon has them listed, but through another seller for 679$!!
With this high demand, and everything going out of stock in a heartbeat, i`m seeing the prices going up during the Holidays! -
Just bought an 1810t with the SU7300 this thing is blazing fast it totaly kill my 1005ha and its almost the same size/weight/battery life. I guess it supports vt since cpu-z report it running at 1.6 constantly. Also very happy with the memory it said ddr2 667 on the box but its actually 800. I'm wondering where they make their money with this i bought it for 650CA and the guy where i bought it (future shop) told me the cost price was something around 638CA.
-
You guys know as long as the hard drive is intact, you can hit ALT-F10 during boot up and do the recovery that way, correct? So if you just image the partition, you have your recovery disk? I wasted my time going out and buying an 8gb Flash drive, burning ISOs etc, thinking I could do a clean install from the recovery software when I learned of the ALT-F10 trick.
-
How do I create an image of the recovery partition without an external DVD drive? -
-
-
I only do that when I'm replacing a hard drive and want to use the old one as an external.

anyone know whats going on? -
J&R has no Ts, TZs or SU2300s. ~NewEgg only has the 743 CPUs, etc.
I think Acer changing models, trying to fix the price points of the 1410/1810 lines in the US.
And make a few extra bucks in the process.
The current;
AS1410 with SU2300 at $399
1810TZ with SU4100 at $549
1810T with SU7300 at $599
Could become;
AS1410 with Intel 743 at $399 (single core)
1810TX with SU2300 at $499
1810T with SU7300 at $649 (with enhancements)
Seems reasonable given the very high prices that Lenovo, Toshiba,
Samsung, Dell, and Fujitsu have put on equivalent 11.6 ULV machines.
BTW..
Yesterday, I finally purchased an 1810TX at eBay for $500.
minus 15% or $75 Bing cash back.
Thanks to an SD post here.
Wow...now it is up to 20%... -
How can I determine the speed of my memory on my 1810t? I hear some shipped with 800mhz..

So basically this is just confirming that the 2300 really is a better processor than either the 3500 or 743, huh?
Just this past Saturday night, I ordered a 1410 with SU2300 for $399, now, not 24 hours later, what few 1410s/SU2300 remain are over $500!
Fry's had them for $399 too.... -
Fry's still has them in stock at $399.

Has anyone managed to overclock the SU2300 yet? I've read just about every post in all the various Acer 1410/1810 threads and haven't really seen anything. The only thing I could see is that it MIGHT be possible to boost the FSB to about 250 which puts the proc at about 1.5ghz. Has anyone had any success with that? Do the soldering tricks used on the other processors work on the SU2300?
Thanks.
Oh yeah, where did you buy the 1810TX on ebay. I can't find it anywhere. -
I purchased my 1410 from amazon.com about two months ago. Hope that helps. By the way, since there are several versions of the 1410, I have the SU3500 processor if that helps.

Just received my BCM90246 (Bluetooth Module) from HK for my Acer 1410... Time to do some surgery tonight!
Cheers,

I'm tempted to do it, but it depends how hard / how much has to be taken apart. As I still want my laptop to work afterwards! -
is anyone elses right mouse button bent and not have as much sensitivity as the left button?

Given I anticipate no need for an external drive otherwise, this is the way to go for me. If the hard drive fails to where I can't recover from the recovery partition, then I can beg, borrow, or steal an external drive at that time. Im tempted to not even order the media now, but on down the road when I may need it Acer may no longer have it available to order for this model.
I just got my SU2300 1410 and am giving it a once over before having to wrap it back up as a gift for my wife. So far I am very impressed! -
I'm sure you could find access to a computer somewhere that has a DVD drive, then you could use WinToFlash to put the recovery disk onto a USB stick. -

Mine registers just fine, but it doesn`t click that loud as the right one

Just received my 1410-2099 the other day and noticed that the video card is a Intel GMA 4500M and no where does it read 4500MHD? Everywhere I go online says it should be a 4500MHD. Did I get screwed over?
