I became really confused looking at Amazon's web site pre-order page.
They were listing single-core and dual-core in the same offering for the same machine, and even RAM speed was quoted as
different speeds depending on the colors for the same model.
I think that it's better to wait for the dust to settle, let all of the early adopters chew on this and return to this topic in
one month's time, when availability is not a problem, and the models offered really are what the store claims for them to be.
And I sooooo want this tomorrow.... LOL Patience, patience.

The AS1410 with the SU2300 is also a dual-core and at $399 it's priced right.
You'll get the 4400mAh (vs 5600mAh) battery, a 160GB (vs. 320GB) hard drive, 2GB (vs. 3-4GBGB) RAM, and no bluetooth.
Not a bad deal really. Depends on what you want. -
If the new SU2300 1410 had the larger battery, or an option for the larger battery at like say, $450 I'd be all over it. As it stands buying a larger capacity battery is ~$100 which eats up most of the savings. Right now I'm leaning toward the top of the line 1810T, but the price seems a little stiff IMHO compared to the SU2300 based 1410.
-
I'm with you 100% on that except I'd probably opt for the TZ. If battery life were not a priority I'd be all over the new AS1410.

Today the delivery date of my white model 1810TZ changed from 3 days to 2 weeks
. I phoned them and changed my order to black. White would have been better but I want that machine
. I already ordered matching accessoires for the white model - had to cancel that as well
.
EDIT: But maybe the black model is less dirt-prone than the white one. Also now the black Logitech M555B becomes an option though I actually closed the BT mouse chapter for me. -

@Rahul
I'm a German. They do sell they white 1410 with the bigger battery on the 22nd. Speed-wise this would be enough for me but that one doesn't have inbuilt Bluetooth and no 3g module (which is a must for me). -
So, I need to get this for her lickety split!
She has an ancient desktop replacement that obviously is a POS, so this is the perfect time to upgrade her.

for the both of us
But I'm going to hold out a little while longer. You don't even want to know how long some of us had to wait for our Dell XPS M1330s a couple of years back... but in the end, it was worth the wait -
@ Traveller
Thanks. I'm not even sure about the black models delivery now. They told me I'd "probably" have better chances with the black model if I really need to have it very soon but remained unspecific on the 22nd. If this 3 days change to two weeks as well, I will revert to the white one. 11/03 is they date they got from their supplier for the white one.

ok, the new 1810TZ with Windows 7 is almost ready to sale here in Slovakia:
http://perifer.ekatalog.biz/zbozi/a...-su4100-4g-320-w-b-7hp/detail.aspx?p=z:159227
The bad thing is, that there is a really ugly price difference between the Vista model and this new one, exactly 24 Euros. But you get 1GB Ram more (4GB together) and a larger, 320 GB harddrive (before was 250).
What do you think of this change? Is it acceptable? -

Has anyone actually been able to determine what wireless cards come with each model? Even the "User Guide" link on the amazon 1810t product listing contradicts itself stating that it has the intel 1000 wifi card which is b/g/n 2.4Ghz only and then says it has a/b/g/n in the middle column. Newegg and JR list them as b/g/n only. Some places seem to list the Intel 5100 card coming on the higher priced 1810t models and the Intel 1000 on the $400 one.
Acer's site lists b/g/n only for the 1810t but lists a/b/g/n for the 1410 which also doesn't seem right. I suppose we won't know for sure until they actually ship but for those in areas with many APs having the 5Ghz band of 802.11a is nice.

So looks like Newegg is taking pre-orders for the 1810tz at the price of the 1810t, in case anyone's interested

On a somewhat realated note.
Gateway releasing their new notebooks EC58, EC54 and EC14 with the EC14 being a 11.6".
http://mms.businesswire.com/bwapps/mediaserver/ViewMedia?mgid=201446&vid=5&download=1
With that picture of the 15.6" being blue brushed aluminum, I got excited for a minute there thinking the 11.6" with the same design.
Sadly after some research, the 11.6 has a glossy lid and looks exactly like Gateway earlier 11.6" releases. -
Anyone tried watching animes (720p mkv h264) on these? I wonder if these can handle them. (My old tower had problems).

I just got my 1810tz with win 7 premium and it has a new intel wifi link 1000 B/G/N card, it seems to be intended for small low and/or low cost systems -
Very interesting link: http://www.electronicshop24.at/prod...el_id=E614299&manufact_nr=LX.PJ402.010&ref=gh
the 1810tz for 499€, including a free custom design skin for the lid! (wirth 24,90)
Might be intersting for middle-european buyers too, as the postage is only 10€!!!
Could look bad, but hey, it's for free, give it a try! -

Well, once i saw newegg had the 3810 for $50 off, i pulled the trigger and pre-ordered it. Sorry folks, i'm too worried the 11.6 will be too small as my main system.
-
Anyone know of any major retailers that will have this on Thursday or Friday? I called Best Buy and they have no idea. What places normally carry a lot of Acers?
-
What area are you going to be in?
-
Pittsburgh. Thanks.
-
In reply to the other post about the differences, all I could really see on Intel's site is that the 1000 card lacks 802.11a which means it does not have the 5Ghz radio in it. 802.11n optionally can use that band but the intel 5100 card didn't mention it. The 5100 uses multiple antennas (mimo) to get more consistent signals. Overall it's not a huge deal unless you want or need to use 802.11a though at $9-10 more for the 5100 aftermarket it's definitely a minor additional cost.

Btw, this is going to be my travel laptop. I wouldn't recommend an ultraportable to be anyone's main system. -
Microcenter in Cleveland carries Acer. They also have store in Philadelphia, but not Pittsburgh. They were the first in our area to get the AS1410. Sorry I can't be more help.

Ran into this and thought that a 9 cell battery for the Timeline series might be interesting news to some at least, even though its not clear if there'll be a version for the 11.6 inchers:
http://netbooked.net/blog/acer-aspire-timeline-to-get-9-cell-12-hour-battery/ -
I think the laptop should be one big battery! I want it to last all week if possible.
Seriously though, if they would start using flat cells, they would be able to increase capacity without making them larger. There is a lot of unused space between those cells. Of course they will cost more, so that's not happening...yet. -
The round Lithium-Ion cells have better power density than the non round Lithium-polymer batteries. They're also less prone to mechanical damage that can cause them to go boom.
-
I didn't know that. Thanks.
-
at this time, and not the SU7300 dual-core.
I am really confused, as I thought that the 1810TZ meant that it was a dual-core machine versus the 1810T being single-core....
Or am I getting this all wrong? -
the SU2300/4100/7300 are dual core with windows 7 64 bit
-
SU4100 is dual core cpu. It is probably just a typo.
-
-
I agree. And then they throw the SU2300 in the AS1410 so now it has a dual-core, and two different single-core machines. Of course they did that after I started this thread. (Or at least I didn't know about it then.) It's crazy trying to sort all of it out at first. To top it all off, they have not updated their site to reflect the current AS1410 offerings.
-
-
I know this is the 1810T/TZ (Dual Core) thread but thought this was worth mentioning.
North American AS1410 SU2300 are now showing up on Newegg.com:
Blue: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115656
Black: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115655
Still no 1810T on the Egg. (And yes, what is Newegg thinking about selling the 1810TZ @ the 1810T pricing?)
Cheers,
Kermee -
So, soon there won't even be a single core 1410/1810 available in the US. -
-
It would be interesting what the rest of the notebook companies respond with-- -

- with the intel ssd boot time to a usable disktop is 22 seconds
I'm feeling good for the first time since my wife spell a cup of starbucks on my deseased VAIO Z last week !!
