Windows yes. Well I wanted to do it anyway and it seemed like Batterybar had screwed up the battery indication.

I like my clean install much better than the Acer install now.

So are we saying that BatteryBar isn`t that much accurate?
I know 1.6% out of 62000mW isn`t that much, but its good to know aint it?

1.6% is negligible in my opinion.

I used the Intel auto-detect for updates, and it showed the Series 4 Graphics update. HOWEVER, it also said this:

The only reason I want to update is to get the lower gamma settings. But if it's going to cause any problems...?

It also showed the Wireless update and it offers a download for it.

Is it recommended to update to that? I'm just a little antsy about changing things, since so far my 1810TZ is working well.

Well yeah but with only 1 month of use?
What should i expect in 1 year?!

Don't use the auto update, don't use the .zip file.

Get the .exe file instead from Intel. This gives lower gamma setting and extra power saving feature.

Fully normal. The battery may have been in storage for a (couple of) month(s).

How it will be in 1 year depends on many variables: luck, temperature, usage etc.

How long should it take normally? Never noticed how long it takes actually

    Phil,

Thanks again. I installed the new graphics driver and it works great. 0.9 gamma does look a bit better on this screen.

Also installed the newer wireless network driver and it seems OK too.

Mine is quite slow too. Notebookcheck warns about it:
Charging goes faster if you turn the laptop off.

It was off during the whole charge.

I got a blue light ppl!
    Opening it now :)

EDIT: I`m still at 1,6% battery wear. So no change at all

Should i try one more time or just leave it at this?

I got 61.183mW available out of the 62.160 that were originally in.

Seems like I been reading a few hundred pages in this thread! ;) Tomorrow my 1810T (SU7300) will arrive! :D

Does anyone know exactly how long it takes to fully recharge a 5600mAh battery with the device turned off as well as turned on (with some browsing/typing going on)? A few years back when I bought my last laptop, it usually said so in the specs but nowadays I can't seem to find this kind of information anymore.

@mogolfiero: I don't think it really matters, does ist? Just give it a few regular charge/discharge cycles and check back then.

Congrats on the new Laptop mate, you won`t regret it!

After completely discharging my battery it took around 5 hours to fully recharge.

I also decided to get rid of the bloody BatteryBar :) Sometimes it`s just better to know less! I dont mind about the 1,6%, i would if i had a 3cell battery. I will continue using it as i did before, and next month will do another calibration

Seems like mine charges up in more like three hours but that is just a guess. And I don't think it takes any longer to charge if it is in use or turned off. I am guessing the a power box is something like 60 watts and the system uses like 10-20 while in use so I can't imagine it has any trouble supplying plenty of power to charge the battery. I guess if you had several powered usb items hooked up it might slow it down but not likely. Also I have the 1410 and not the 1810.

OK, 60W sounds fine. I thought it to be a lot weaker, something like 30W. I was just a little concerned about the recharging time of the device while turned on.

BTW: I am planning to hook it up to a 1920*1200 screen. However this TFT only has a DVI-input. Does anyone know whether it is possible to get a decent HDMI=>DVI adapter or do I have to live with the crappy VGA connection?

if you turn it off then it will only take a few hours to recharge. but if you are using it then it can take a whole day. I had it with me at work when it was fully discharge, then i recharge when i was still using it for a whole day. when i got home it was not even fully recharged yet.

everything about this laptop is awesome for the price, but the recharge time and the battery seems to die too soon is the worst thing i have seen in a laptop ever. if everyone know a how to recharge it faster let us know please. maybe a better power supply will do the job...

yeah I think a 60 watt charger charges about twice as fast. it's usually a lot bigger though.

    Darn!

Actually that is what I was afraid of!

Not sure about that. Problably the battery electronics is the limiting factor here. It controls the charge rate of the battery

You are right. I was suprised to see that it actually is 30 watts. A 60 watt doesn't cost much more and isn't really any bigger so I was suprised. I would also imagine that the battery electronics are the limiting factors so a larger wattage brick is probably not any faster. Although again it doesn't seem to take that long for mine to charge. However, I usually keep it plugged in when I get the chance.

I'm quite sure a higher wattage charger charges faster on some Dell laptops. Not sure if it will work for the 1810 too.

I was just looking in my device manager and noticed my webcam does indeed have the default MS Webcam driver installed for it. It's working all right, but I'd rather have the official driver from the manufacturer.

The hardware ID is 064E:A102, which best I can tell is the Suyin webcam, but I'm not sure. I downloaded the Suyin driver from the Acer website, but I have some questions before installing it:

    1. The file is called "Camera_Suyin_5.2.5.3_Vistax86_A" I'm using Win7 x64 though, is there a place to find a 64bit driver? Will the Vista driver work in 7?

    2. Should i uninstall the device from devivce manager first?

    Thanks in advance.

(note: please excuse any typos, i'm still getting used to this tiny keyboard)

So my nephews W7 upgrade discs shipped today. I bought a US model but the discs are being delivered to me in the UK. I have no idea where these discs are coming from. I don't know whether or not they shipped them from the US or the UK. These are meant to be part of a gift and i don't know when to expect the discs.

To help them with this upgrade as they will be doing it alone are there any drivers that i need to download? They won't be doing a clean install and own a SU3500 32bit model. I ran a search and didn't find a W7 upgrade thread for this laptop.

    Thanks

If you're upgrading from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 32-bit, the drivers should still work.

But just to be on the safe side, you should download the Windows 7 drivers before performing the upgrade.

    It's Here!

UPS came and dropped off my ACER Aspire Timeline AS1410-8913: Ruby Red; SU3500; 2GB 667Mhz Ram; 250GB HD.

The battery reached a full charge very fast. The slow part is the downloading and installing the updated Vista software. I already order the free upgrade to Win7. I sure hope Win & is better than Vista because I really dislike Vista

I wanted to avoid the hustle of searching for a compatible RAM module to update to 4gig.

Plus: Bluetooth, tad better processor and virtualisation. And all this for 50$.

Am i right or i am i not?

EDIT: However... I don't think it would make a difference since the charging circuit also plays a key part in the charging rate... :-/

I just notice something about BatteryBar...

My maximum reading (of 62160mWh) for Battery wear seems to be lower than the Battery Wear max reading (of 62948mWh), so I think it's not that the wear "went away" but that Battery Bar took the newer reading as the default level perhaps?

So I suppose that there might not be any solution to this, though I don't think it's a cause for any despair. I agree with Phil that these are small amounts.

For me 62160mWh is the correct capacity anyway since 5600mAh * 11.1V is 62160mWh (googled for the calculation technique :p )

Really the only significant difference IMO, is the extra gig of RAM, which would cost you roughly $40 to upgrade to based on newegg prices.

The TZ also has bluetooth (if mine is any indication).

Is the extra $50 worth it? sure if you need 4GB of ram and virtualization (and the larger sized cache on the SU7300). Otherwise, I wouldn't. Hence why I have a TZ and not a T :)

BTW: I just got my TZ a couple days ago. Its pretty nice :)

Well you got me wrong people :)
I`m from Europe and i had 2 choises. EIther buy the 1810TZ that is sold here (for 500 euros) which has the SU4100. NO Bluetooth, 2GB of RAM and a 250GB HDD, or an American 1810T for 400 euro ;)

That`s why i decided to tell my friend to get me a 1810 T, since its better value for money compared to what we get here!

with 4 gb of ram does this laptop run better on a win 7 64bit or 32bit have anyone tested this yet? is it faster or is it slower? and do you have any problem with drivers or software?

which version of it do you recommend to run with 4 of ram and why?

You won't notice the difference between 3GB and 4GB unless you are running special applications that actually need the memory. For example: Photoshopping large images.

I went back from 64 bit to 32 bit. 32 bit is faster, but that's because it's a clean install while the 64 bit was Acer install.

The benefit of 32 bit is that I can now use my Wimax and DVB-T dongle. I had no idea so many devices do not have 64 bit drivers.

Little. The OS will use an extra 0.4 GB or so.

But there's also the benefit from using two 2GB sticks: dual channel ram. Which is only relevant if you're into gaming.

To me the $50 was worth it and already paid for itself. I tend to run multiple applications and VMs.

Having 4 gigs preinstalled in the 1810T and maxing out the 1410(to 4GB) was the great equalizer. I can't tell the speed difference between the two-- But the slowdown in the 1410 was noticeable prior to the RAM upgrade.

What I'm saying is the benefit of having 4GB is there if your usage pattern makes use of the extra RAM (to state the obvious).

I now have the HP DM1 and Acer 1810tz.

At first I thought it was going to be an easy choice for the Acer. But HP has some stuff going for it too. The finish looks like aluminium and feels a bit more sturdy than the Acer.

The Acer has SU4100, the HP SU2300. I don't feel any difference in responsiveness.
