No, I really mean brushed aluminium. One may find that information here:
http://www.acer.com/olympic_games/deu/models/aspire1810.html
Unfortunately there are some sontradictory informations on the web...
-
nope. not on the lid or body.
just the panel surrounding the keyboard. that's it. -

In case no one have seen this on the software forum:

I have some more experience now with Battery Bar on different laptops, I wouldn't recommend anyone to install it.
I have also read reports of other people that got worse battery life after installing BatteryBar because explorer was creating high CPU load. -
-
Very nice, but it is painted plastic.
One clue is to look closely at the touch pad.
It is probably the same unit as the panel, and it must
be made from plastic, not metal.
I don't know for sure.
But would be very surprised if Acer added a significant cost
for an improvement that few would notice. -
I have a lot of noise on the headphone jack on my 1410. I'm using Shure SCL4's which are high quality IEMs and I can hear the static crackling and hissing. It can't be mechanical hard drive noise because I have a SSD, what could be causing the interference and how do I correct it?

Just for simplicities sake I'm very interested in this card.
http://www.atheros.com/pt/AR9002WB-1NGB.html
I know it would "fit" but any way of knowing if it would "work"?
I know it's not available yet, but just curious as to blacklisting from acer.
And kinda scared of the price to come(they talk as it being 20% cheaper for OEM's).
Just would be so nice to pop a panel and slip it in since they opted to not include the 2nd pci socket on the 1410
And I guess the next obvious question is would it work with the 2 separate function switches on the front? -
-
I think the card will work. It is a Mini PCI-E Card and the 1410 has a Mini PCI-E Slot. Both half size.
The WLAN switch in front could work. The Bluetooth Switch in the front will not work, because it is switching the Bluetooth Hardware, wich is not on the Mini PCI-E Slot, more at an internal USB Port. -

Your best bet is to try upgrading to the latest Realtek drivers and see if that makes any difference. If not, uninstall Realtek's drivers and use the default Windows audio driver. Quite a few people have reported that the default audio driver makes the popping and hissing disappear, so it's worth a shot. -
Thanx for the info, guess it's back to plan A(2 cards). -
I would get really annoying 'pulses' of static when I was surfing the web. When I physically cut power to the Wifi, most of the static went away... there was still some less annoying static remaining, but it was vastly improved (presumably from the hard drive and other components?) I've since learned to live with it...
Maybe I might try an e/m shield, but I doubt that will make any difference, since it's very likely coming in thru a connection on the mobo... -
-
I discovered that when I ran wPrime 32M and my CPU was at 100% load the hissing went away. Bizarre, huh? I may just take this problem as an excuse to spend $100 or so on a nice headphone amp / DAC, but it's reaching the point where my accessories cost more than the laptop itself.
-
what are these?
happened after sleep -
you have the latest Intel video drivers? Roll back to previous drivers, same problem happens on my gf's 1410 but went away after removing and installing the drivers on Acer's website. while it was sleeping did you plug or unplug the power cord?

I just bought my Acer 1410 last week from B & H Photo. However, immediately upon opening it and turning it on, I noticed a horrible buzzing noise coming from the fan. Some quick research through the site revealed that the fan problem could be fixed if I applied some electrical tape on the fan to prevent it from touching the metal chassis of the laptop.
I looked through a guide to dissemble the laptop and instead of putting just more tape over the strip of tape that was already on the fan, I decided to cut more tape and line it over the fan, being careful to not block the airflow. The buzzing noise is mostly gone, though if I put my ear to the bottom of the laptop, I can hear it, but it is very faint. HOWEVER, the laptop has started to freeze randomly. Not often, but it's already frozen three times over five days and the laptop was not under any strain during that time, nor was the fan on high.
I was wondering, is it possible that the tape is actually causing heat problems and making my laptop freeze? -
ive gotten teh same video distortion after resume from sleep. the "older" video drivers from acer's site seems to fix it. Surprising that it was happening with the newest intel drivers for the gma4500..

For those still wondering about a backlit keyboard, I found this one mod for the EEE PC. It should be simple enough to adopt it to the Timelines:
http://www.popsci.com/diy/article/2008-05/eee-pc-school-add-keyboard-backlight-under-15
It seems pretty simple to add some EL wire underneath the keyboard. The only problem is to find a power source somewhere -- either from the mainboard or USB. If I decide to go forward with this project, I'll post my results in the tweaks thread. -
Can this machine handle kaspersky without slowing down the comp??? What anti-virus are you guys using specificly with this machine?
-
-
But if you do want to use: Avira (if you disable the neg screen) and Avast are good free choices. -
I will not(and never have) run a pc w/o some form of AV program running.
Good case for me was about 2 months ago I visited windows7news.com, a site i frequent, and i guess it was an ad on the page but MSSE caught something and I'm glad that I had something to not only catch it beforehand but even to let me know about it.
That's one thing that scares me to death about "mac" users, they never have any notice about an infected file and could very easily pass it to someone. -
SO I had to learn not to do unsafe things. I do not execute files that could be infected and I surf with Firefox with Flashblock & Adblock. In my opinion that's 100% safe. But... if anything goes wrong anyway, I have nothing to loose. My data isn't valuable and I have backups.
If you insist on using paid AV I would recommend Kaspersky. It did significantly better in my test. For free ones I recommend Avast with password protection.

Does anyone know where I can find http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115656 in red, black or preferably white?
My old netbook is this blue color and I would like a change. -
Hey !
I have a small problem on my 1810tz : my *.avi videos (normal quality xvid, 700mb per movie) play perfectly in windows media player but the playback is rather chopy on other software (tried GOM, VLC and splash) especially when panning, I have horizontal disruptancies (is that a word?).
Installed ffdsow and latest graphic drivers and cpu usage is low, I dont get it.
I would like to be able to use a better software than WMP esp for subtitles.
Any ideas? -
-
If you have a single core...going to suck for the video...that's just how it is. Dual core shouldnt have ANY problems with video. -
What a horribly experience with Acer I am having... After the system's fan stopped running, I removed the keyboard (didn't even need to detach the cable) to discover I was also missing 2 screws. I called Acer to get them to send me my missing screws, but was told instead that my warranty is VOIDED the moment to removed the keyboard to look. Utter bull.
-
First, get media player classic (free), then FFDShow(Free), then Core-AVC ($10 or free also if you want the programmers to go hungry and have their blood on your hands), and turn as much background processes off as possible and you'll have smooth playback! I also outputted to my HDTV via HDMI and it was silky smooth aswell.
Remember to enable Core-AVC as the video filter through media player classic (not ffdshow video). -

On the subject of KB's, on my 1410 the space bar is.....uh, softas in it doesnt "click" like the other keys. Does that sound normal?
besides that small issue all's well & lovin' it. -
Hopefully we'll see more CULV notebooks during CES. I'm really not comfortable buying an Acer machine if their customer service is that bad. -
I will give Acer another call tomorrow and see whether level 2 is any better, but I doubt it. The first time I called, the CSR after verifying that I said I fixed the fan myself immediately hung up on me. The 2nd CSR just gave me the number to Capital Data which I later learn does not do warranty works. 3rd CSR did the same except also tells me I'm SOL. She wanted me to send in my notebook for the screws and it will cost $119 for the service if I decides to not use Capital Data.
Luckily, CS on Amazon.com side is way way better and I've already boxed my notebook up for a full refund. -
and yell "WARRANTY VOIDED". As long as you don't go places yelling you've taken your laptop apart there is hardly anything that will really void your warranty. I'm sure if you went calling any other computer manufacturer telling them you took computer apart you'd get the same response -- warranty voided.
Whenever I'm with technical support I always try to talk like a total idiot, who treats computers like some sort of a divine spiritual being -- and I assure you, it has never stopped Acer from sending me missing screws, replacement HDDs, or anything of the sort.
Just use your common sense and you should be fine!
-
Silly me then. I should have played dumb and told them a couple of screws were missing on the exterior and not under the keyboard. I'm too honest for my own good
-
Thank you for your reply. Using an Intel Wifi Link 5300 is an interresting idea as I have a 3-stream router. To get any benefit over the 5100 I suppose I will have to add a 3rd dual-band antenna. Do you know where to get such an antenna?
Please upload your pictures of the third antenna, do you use it for wifi or for BT only? -
Taken from the other thread:

I've had the 1810TZ now for about 2 weeks, and I can say that is wonderful in everything, except Photoshop. I'm trying to mend this issue by installing a fresh Win7 64-bit HP, but I do not own a copy personally. So, if there is some (hopefully) legal way to obtain a CLEAN iso of the 64-bit HP, I would be eternally grateful.
Thanks -
250 pages.. Wow...
I have a few questions that I am hoping someone could answer.
I am looking at getting the 1410. From everything I see on this thread it is best to go with the dual core which is the SU2300. I am guessing that this means that you can also get a 1410 without this processor. Is the included processor differentiated by the number after 'Aspire 1410' (ie Aspire 1410-XXXX)?
Does anyone know any good deals on it right now? I tried to get it from Fry's for $349 but none of the stores had it anywhere near Atlanta?
Also does it come preloaded with Win 7 or does it come with Vista and I will have to upgrade to Win 7.
Will I be able to run basic functions in photoshop and 1080p and streaming youtube vids with the computer/processor. My primary function for the computer is typically web surfing and video.
Thanks! -
If spacebar key itself works perfectly -- why are you worrying?[/QUOTE]
It's just kinda touchy, makes it easy to space or double space on accident. I just would prefer it to have the same feedback. -
I was playing 1080p Youtube today with a Celeron 723 1.2GHz Single Core. Intel 4500 is getting better and better. -
Is the SU2300 faster then the SU3500? Seems counterintuitive.
I noticed the 3500 has 3mb of L2 cache as opposed to 1mb on the 2300; is this relevant to overall processing speed? -
The SU2300 will be faster in most common situations like a normal Windows 7 environment.
Single threaded taks like some games may run faster on SU3500.
A good website for CPU comparison: http://notebookspot.nl/charts/cpu/ -
