So...
1410: su2300, 2GB ram, 160GB harddrive, 6 hours battery life for $400
1810t: su7300, 4GB ram, 320GB, 8 hours for $600
Is that really worth $200!?
-
-
Actually, I got both. The 1810T will be in the field while the 1410/SU2300 will pull server duties.
-
If you want Acer to keep up the good work, the answer is yes---
-
You forgot the bluetooth. So you're talking $40 per upgrade. I guess it depends on what you want. I'd pay $50 to upgrade the battery, but it would cost me about $100 to buy it. So if I really want the extra battery life, I may as well consider the one of the 1810 models. I think the 1810s should be about $50 less each, even at their current price, I have to consider them which is exactly what Acer wants.
-
Bing cash back at J&R gets you the 1810tz for $529 (no tax, free shipping for most)
-
Actually, I'd rather reward Acer with an extra $ 50 for their complete package -- than encourage marketing tactics like that by Asus (or single-core Toshiba), where they leave a stupid excuse of an ultraportable in the UL20 (no bluetooth or HDMI and relatively poor battery life), just so they can get me to buy their U20 -- not only for about $ 400 extra, but also at a pound heavier.
-
So, AS1410's can have...
Intel 743 single core
Intel SU3500 single core
Intel SU2300 dual core -
what about 1810t?any link?
I couldn't find it, what words should I search for?
thanks! -
http://www.bing.com/shopping/pages/stores.aspx?FORM=PRFS07
Find J&R, click through then search for Acer 11.6 at J&R. -
I've retyped this so often on various forums, that I saved it as a Word file.
About Microsoft's Bing Search Cash Back….
Go to Bing.
It is free, but First you need to create an account.
Then select the "Shopping" link.
Then select "J&R" from the list of companies.
At J&R, search for "Acer 11.6" and make your purchase.
(If 1410, don't buy the older one at $429)
Wait 48 hours after shipping for the Cash Back to show
as "pending" in your Bing account.
The 5% $20 to $30 cash back will be approved and accessible within 90 days.
J&R is a retailer that does not give any feedback on your Bing status.
So you go thru the process. And 48 hours after shipping,
you find out if Bing worked by seeing it "pending" in your Bing account.
Some retailers, like TigerDirect, show your Bing status on their own check-out pages.
After 90 days or whenever the cash back is approved, you can request a check to be sent home, or transfer the money to a PayPal account. (Only have US experience, BTW. But I do use Bing & PayPal from outside the US) -
Exactly! I personally think for what you get, they are all quite reasonably priced, ESPECIALLY the 1810 timeline models. If you don't think so, just go over to Dell's website and start customizing their 11z.

Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810TZ-4013 11.6-Inch Black Laptop - Over 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium)
549.99
Cheaper then newegg (right??...am i missing anything?) -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
That is it's normal price, Newegg jacked it up $50 to the price of the 1810T for no reason. -
Wish NewEgg's bad price had not been mentioned here. They also published an original price of $649.99, which must be a lie. The $549.99 is Acer's announced retail price. NewEgg is shameless!
The only USA deals I've seen are at JR.com.
Free shipping and no tax for most states.
Save 5% using Bing cash back.
1810TX = $549.99 - 5% = $522.50
1810T = $599.99 - 5% = $569.99
1410 = $399.99 - 5% = $379.99 (buy SU2300, not SU3500)
Its that simple, for the moment! -
How is JR's service?
-
I've made maybe 15 purchases, including a 46" Sony, over the last few years, No problems! Don't know about service. But broken notebook issues are always solved by the manufacturer (in the US, at least). Not sure about "Dead on arrival" issues.
Just checked J&R's 6 month ResellerRatings here.
9.25 out of 10.0 by 914 reviewers. (all stores average is 8.15) -
Does anyone know..
How is the RMA process?
Can I bring my laptop to the acer repair center?
Where can I find the location?
or I have to ship it to the repair center?
Thanks -
I had an issue about a year ago trying to "convince" J&R to let me cancel an item that was in-stock when I ordered but sold out and was on backorder. They lady basically grumbled that I was letting them down etc. but they finally cancelled it after I politely but firmly told her I needed a machine ASAP and I'd still shop with them.
Newegg's started to go downhill gradually but steadily over the past 2-3 years or so and this would not be the first time I've seen them pulling tricks on "hot" items and jacking the prices way up. Now that they have gone public, I'd expect them to steadily deteriorate further. I hate their little tricks like paying $7.99 shipping on a adapter or small cable that only costs 2 or 3 bucks. Even their ShellShockers aren't as good as they were a few months ago. Overall, it's still hard to beat Amazon if you know exactly what you are looking for. I just wish Amazon would jump fully in the PC parts biz and compete head-on with Newegg. -
Amazon is pretty well but their shipping is not that fast
Yes..intel SSD was over priced on Newegg when G2 came out
I think newegg still has the fastest shipping and best service
their i7 920 is expensive too, microcenter has it for much cheaper
so i think their price is not that reasonable compared to 2-3 years ago
but still J&R offers the lowest price and it is the only place that carries 1810T -
Well, I saw it written as single-core on NewEgg's description, and now here (attached jpeg) is the same typo on Amazon's product page...? It's weird to say the least.
Like WDF??Attached Files:

Salesmen are not necessarily IT experts, I suppose
-
Intel, Acer, NewEgg and Amazon are working together
to get us so confused that we will happily spend
more money for notebooks with slower CPUs.
And worse, we won't even know which NBR forum
is appropriate to post in.

Hello Everybody,
I'm interested in buying the 1810Tz - it seems to have everything I want and need, beeing more potent than a netbook and much smaller and lighter than a regular notebook. But I got quite a lot of data and was asking myself: Can one upgrade the harddisk?
Does somebody have Info about what type of Harddisk is build in? 2.5''? 1.8''?
Is it acessible by any practical means?
I would probably be fine for now, but in a year or so, when warranty expires, I wouldn't mind taking the risk
Anybody got info or experience?
Thanks in advance!

@Mike1974
It's 2.5" SATA. Two screws to remove and the HDD can be swapped. Should take around 2 minutes if you are slow. -
Hi guys!
I'm gonna buy 1810tz model, but here in Italy it seems there are only white model! So, for 2 days I was googling, but didn't found any pic of that white version.
Could anyone please describe me (or post a picture) that white/silver version??? I'm afraid it's white/out and black/in (like my old Acer D150).
the colour code is
lx.pjz02.007
thnx -
As der_mali mentioned, the mechanical process of swapping hard disks is very easy.
But because you asked, you may find it challenging to get Win7,
the drivers & all your data onto the new HD.
Instead, for just a little more money, consider buying an external USB hard drive.
Occasionally transfer data you don't use to it.
And you can also use it to back up your essential stuff. -
Servus,
In a post above I mentioned that Notebook.de was listed as an "official ACER partner". Well, I was thrilled to find a local store with the same certificate, ALTERNATE(AT). However, they just wrote back to me to suggest that there are no "seashell White" models currently being sold by ACER (in our region)...
Btw, they also have branch(es) in Germany (or maybe it's their Head Office)... has anyone done business with them?
tscheers 8^) -
It looks great - it's the color I want
-
It looks great!!!!! I wished the black one, but this ""seashell white" looks quite better!
thanxxxx -
Rahul posted a link to better pics of the white one. I wonder whether they used white plastic or simply painted it white.
-
The prettiness of the white model, in my opinion, is the direct result of the battery and keyboard being white. In making the model white, the uniform color throughout makes things prettier -- while in the black and blue, the difference in color makes things a bit awkward. Wish they actually made the models uniformly of one color somehow, though, that would make batteries and keyboard replacement color specific...
-
Yes, I agree. Also the silver wristrest looks great (with the touchpad buttons in the same colour). Hopefully someone uploads some reallife pics soon. I think what we have seen yet are all renderings.
-
I totally agree. I had an Acer D150 pearl white, but internally ( keyboard and wristest
wristest) had a black-metallic (look-alike) finishing that catches too fingerprints.
Acer used the same combinations of colours for the 751.
this is surely better! -
I just want to have confirmation if the white model is making its way to the U.S.
-
The white looks so 1980s! How about a splash of neon on that thing?
I'll stick with the fingerprint magnet. (Black) lol -
No, White looks so Apple.

Hello all,
I'm considering buying the 1810TZ in the next couple of days. However, I recently discovered that the AC adapter is rated at 30W. This seems extremely low for a notebook and more than likely aimed for a netbook. Usually I wouldn't worry, the less power this thing draws the better, right? But I stumbled across a review of the ASUS UL30 which has almost the exact same specs as the 1810TZ (apart from being a 13") and it uses a 40W AC adapter which according to this review gets really hot and isn't really sufficient to power the system under load and charge the battery at the same time. Even the 3810TZ (which again has pretty much the same specs as the 1810TZ) uses a 65W adapter.
Is anything known about this? Has anyone heard of or experienced overheating AC adapters from Acer in the Timeline series recently?
I'm really afraid Acer tried to save a buck by going for a 30W instead of the 65W. -
White one looks much more fabulous.
-
acer just sent me a billing letter for windows 7 upgrade cd
-
There are no heat problems, but the battery takes longer to charge.
@seashell white
The problem I see are bright reflections in direct sunlight. I use my devices a lot outside(yes, it's very possible even with glare screens) and the bright white would make it impossible to see something because the eyes adjust according to lighting conditions and the screen would appear too dark.
Cool
I did my registration today. Where do you live? -
If you use it a lot in bright sunlight that could be a problem. Would be a minor thing for me, though. A white bezel is of less contrast to the usually bright screen content which makes it look more friendly.
In the end all this doesn't matter that much for me. I will probably take whichever becomes available first. -
Thanks for your answer, I really haven't seen any reviews that tackled this issue (In fact, I hardly found any reviews at all). I guess that's at least better than burning down my house. I still wonder though if 30W is enough to power the system under load alone, even without the battery charging. 10W TDP for the CPU and 12W for the GS45 chipset, without adding other components like the hard drive, display etc. But I guess Acer tested this properly. They still should've gone with the 65W IMHO, just for reduced charging times alone.
Do you know if it's possible to switch the AC adapter to a larger model by any chance? Are there compatible 65W adapters from Acer? -
I doubt it would in the near future, given that Acer has officially launched it only in blue and black. It might later, I think, if the sales sag eventually, and they want to prop up the lag with a new color such as white. So it would probably at least be a few months, I'd imagine...

guys, i know it was mentioned in the old 300 pages + topic, but i can´t find it anymore
anyone knows what is the name of the program which acts as virtual ISO writer and can help ´´burn´´ me ISO images of the original OS, so i can use them later for reinstall? because i don't trust physical media, i much more like ISO backups
thank you -
Just a heads up for those with a Bank of America credit or debit card: If you sign up for BoA's Add It Up cash back program, you can get 6% back at Newegg. Offer expires 10/31/09. This possibly may be limited to U.S. residents.
https://additup.bankofamerica.com/jsp/01.0-welcome.jsp
I know Bing has 4% cash back at Buy.com, but Acer offers there are sparse. -
It should be in Timeline Tweaks under "general tips and tricks"
If you find a 65W PSU it will work, but it won't charge faster. The laptop adjusts the current it takes from the PSU and still thinks it's a 30W PSU. -
Well I still couldn't get my local source (ALTERNATE) to determine if and/or when they could obtain the white models. worst case, I will consider the red ( which doesn't look all that bad, even with black accessories.) If I'm going to get a fingerprint magent... might as well be a fast-looking one
