On the 1410 with the SU2300 processor:

New Egg is the only place in the US where I can find this computer and it is $429 + $10 shipping there. I might snatch this us, but I was hoping to get it for a bit cheaper (Fry's had it 2 weeks ago for $350).

Does this mean that the 1410 is being phased out for another model, or will the US get another shipment of this same computer at some point?

Does anyone know where else I can get one?

Edit: It's no longer available at new egg. I don't see anywhere on the net to buy this computer right now... It must be a good one :)

    Steltz, what about a 1810 with SU4100?

    Bigger battery, faster CPU.

Ya Phil the only problem is that one is around $600 USD. The 1410-2285 was only $350.

I have tried to contact acer but they have been no help. Trying to convey to this guy that there was no more available in the US took about 15 minutes. Finally he just told me that he didn't understand and couldn't help me.

Is there anyway to find out if they will be sending more 1400-2285s to the US?

I also can't find the 1810 with the 4100 available in any US stores.. Eeeekk.

Hey guys I just got my acer aspire 1410 and its great except that the hard drive keeps making a ticking noise and the blue harddrive light keeps flashing on and off and it's kinda distracting. Even when Im not using anything it ticks sometimes I can hear the harddrive turning off and on.

Ticking always concerns me and BTW mine is quiet.
As for the HD light flashing, with a fresh windows install(or a new pc) it's probably indexing, you can disable the indexing(I do) or just ride it out for a week or so and it will calm down.
    Hope that helps.

Well since I can't get search to work lemme ask again.
Has anyone figured out if or what is compatible with the 1410's as far as a higher capacity battery(6 or 9 cell)?
I'm generally happy with the 5ish hours I'm getting but you know, more is good
I thought I read that the 1810's don't interchange but TOO many pages to go through again. Thanx!

The larger capacity 6-cell battery from the 1810 will work fine.

So a 5600mah battery for an 1810 will work in a 1410? COOL! I thought I read of some "bump" that screwed up the fit.
Next question, same physical size? Any good references as to where to get the best deal on such a beast.
    Thanx

Edit: ok, how bout this? Does it seem correct? I know $110 sucks but just checkin'.

My manufacture date is 2009/12/11 (im not sure whether to interpret that as the 11th of december or 12th of november). Model is 1810T-8968. I have had none of the problems that other users have had in this thread. Machine is working perfectly so far. Well except for battery bar saying my new laptop (less than a week old) already has a battery wear of 5.2%

I'm jealous of you! I have a UK-purchased Acer 1810tz running 64bit Win7 Home Premium with latest drivers and 1080p YouTube is jerky. Others say it should run fine so I'm trying to work out what the problem is.

If anyone is interested in helping me resolve this I've got a separate thread open:

Your problem with Youtube probably stems from the fact that the new Flash 10.1 only supports 32bit Explorer. Your programs menu should have both 32 and 64 bit versions of IE. Just use the 32bit version and load the Flash 10.1 beta. That should solve it. Hopefully. I use the 32bit versions of Windows 7 so I don't have your dilema. Hope my suggestions help.

I think I've tried that (I think that the default version of IE on Win7 is the 32bit - you have to go to Start Menu to find the 64 bit version). I could be wrong though, will try. I remember doing a flash test in the version of IE that said it was 10.1 and then trying to video, so I think I have tried it in 32bit. Its possible that the extra bit of power required to emulate 32bit software is what's ruining it as so far the only people I've heard from who can play 1080p YouTube ok are running 32 bit Windows. Am going to probably try installing 32 bit Win7 tonight to confirm. Cheers for the tips.

Hmm but using my 1810T (su7300) youtube HD video is not jerky at all. Well i tried it with this video --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zvCUmeoHpw

So it may be the video or the extra 1 mb of L2 cache.

One thing I'd say about that video is that it may not be 1080p - in YouTube you get some videos that are just HD and others that give an option of 720p or 1080p - I always try and test with the ones that give you an option so I know for sure its a 1080p test.

    e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-AW_IFHyUc&hd=1

It plays fine on SU2300 too. (Dual Core, 1.2GHz, 1 MB cache)

Before I thought it was smooth on my Celeron 723 too but now it's not totally smooth.

As far as true 1080p files I can get watchable results but not perfect. I'm running the 1892 Intel driver and flash 10.1(active x & plugin). I do get better results w/firefox than IE 32, nothing huge but better. Even if I never improve from now It's still MUCH better than the slideshow I had with my old Gateway LT31 w/ati1270.
I'm quite happy to get smooth 720p because that's about all a 768 display can really resolve anyhow.

I tried the search function but no luck. I'm not sure how I can turn off the french keyboard function. I was typing inside of msn and pressed something and it only uses the french keys within msn. Any help is much appreciated thanks.

Also is there an online guide for the 1810t?

Well if it's only typing french in msn, depending on whether you mean the website or the messenger program, it's not really a computer issue but you need to find the language setting for said site or software.

To switch from multilingual keyboard to american (and vice versa) you have to do Control + Shift. Or you could go into the language bar and remove the option for multilingual keyboard entirely.

And I tried the HD video clip. I see what you mean. It is not completely smooth, which is a bit disappointing but it won`t bother me for too long cause compared to a netbook it is amazing. Also flash 10.1 should be coming soon.

I just downloaded flash 10.1 and it makes quite a big difference. Now usage is down to just around 50%, and the video plays completely smoothly.

Are these available ANYWHERE anymore in the US???
Ideally I'd want a Gateway EC1435U but would settle for the Acer AS1410-2285 if need be.
Amazon is out of stock, Newegg had some until a couple of days ago but all sold out now. Frys still has the AS1410-2285 listed as being available in-store but when you go to check-out and search for local stores by zip code, none of the ones Ive tried have them in stock (tried AZ, NV and CA stores to no avail...).

Any ideas? Really wanted to pick one of these up before I leave the US in a couple of weeks but its not looking good...

Any suggestions for alternatives otherwise? Closest I can think of is the Samsung NC20 but for the same price it comes with less RAM and an inferior processor afaik :(

edit - if these have really been discontinued and i have no hope of finding one, i might settle for a single core version. in that case, should i go for the 1.3ghz celeron, or the 1.4ghz core solo? i would prefer win7 over vista but is the 1.4ghz better?
    Thanks

this is one but time to ship may not work for your timeframe, http://www.provantage.com/acer-lx-sa902-014~7ACEN0QP.htm
Edit: I've never dealt with them but my guess is that it'll be the same as the rest of the web...no stock.

Perhaps because yours has the SU4100 processor while mine has the Su7300 processor. . . But the only difference between them is 1 mb of L2 Cache, and a couple of things like Intel Virtualization Technology.

What are the rest of the specs for your computer?

Oh and by the way, is it just me or is the fan extremely quiet. After downloading 1810T tray and putting the fan setting to the highest, I had to strain to hear it. Although the room isn't completely quiet. My desktop has a really loud fan, but still, the point remains.

    Hi Fatlardo.

To enable all possible HW accelerated features for youtube HD content playing you should install the most recent intel graphics driver (version 15.16.2.1986) and flash player v10.1
I have read it somewhere, and it make a big difference in CPU usage.

The release notes for flash player saying the following:
    -----------------------------------------------------
Hardware video decoding of H.264 content in Flash Player 10.1 is supported on the Intel® 4 Series Chipset family, starting with the graphics driver version 15.16.2.1986 for 32/64-bit Windows Vista and Windows 7. These drivers are available from:
    • 32-bit EXE: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18334
    • 64-bit EXE: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18336

I have one of the early 1410s with the SU3500. No issues at all. No fan or keyboard issues and it is still as solid as the day I got it. I'm very happy with it.

Overall, I think there are relatively few issues with these. I'm not saying that the issues that people have had are not real, but to suggest that this model is problematic when you consider the number of units out there is a little misleading in my opinion.

I've got an 1810tz and 1080p YouTube is really jerky with 1080p video if I have flash hardware acceleration enabled. It works ok with it disabled. I've got .1986 drivers and Flash 10.1 beta 2. I've heard that beta 2 disables some hardware support due to bugs, and will be enabled in beta 3, but whether this applies to series 4 graphics chips I'm not sure.

This may be a stupid question, but when I connect my 1810t to my TV via HDMI, the picture doesn't look like it's in 1080p. Looks like a normal VGA connection. I have 1892 drivers and I tried upgrading to 1986 and that didn't help. Is there a setting I need to change somewhere?

Do you mean Flash 10.1 Beta 1? I haven't tried that though although I've read similar things - can't find a copy of it on the web - only link I found was to rapidshare which endlessly told me the servers were too busy.

If you've updated to the latest graphics drivers and the resolution isn't there then yeah I guess you'll need to create a custom resolution as your graphics card isn't reading the available resolutions of the TV correctly.
