I just received my Acer 1810TZ Olympic edition from Amazon, and after using it I've realized that the touchpad is falsely detecting my touchpad movements as gestures causing the mouse to randomly resize my screen and just not respond when I'm trying to move it.

An external mouse works properly. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of/experienced problems like this? I've updated to the latest Synaptics driver as well as the ones on the Acer website, and updated to the latest BIOS.

I think all gestures require 2 fingers to be used on the touchpad at the same time - are you accidentally resting 2 fingers on the touchpad, or maybe your plam or something?

I had the same. Turned out my left finger was accidentally touching the touchpad, when I had it rested on one of the buttons.

I've made sure that I'm only using one finger and it's still having the same problem. Also, I used the Synaptics tool to measure the pressure detected across the touchpad and found that the pressure detected on the left/middle is almost twice as much as detected on the right side of the touchpad. Do you guys experience this problem?

EDIT: Also, when I purposely try to do a gesture, it works every time.

please try using synaptic drivers from laptopvideo2go forums.
    Remember this golden rule:
    ACER RELEASE BAD DRIVERS.
Get your drivers direct from other sources Unless there is really no other way.

I've tried these drivers with the same problem. I'm almost positive it's a hardware issue since the cursor moves erratically even with no Synaptics software installed. I just think its odd that no one has mentioned this problem...and unfortunately Amazon is sold out of these so I'm not sure whether I want to wait to see if Amazon gets anymore in stock for an exchange, or to go through the warranty process with Acer (has anyone experienced their warranty service?)

kaerf, you could try disabling chiral scrolling in the Synaptics options. it may help.

    Greetings All,

I have the AS1410 with SU2300 and am loving it...especially coming from an Asus 1005HA-P. Atom N280 just wasn't cutting it.

My biggest complaint is the flat keyboard. I use my netbook to work on my book on the go. It's hard to type fast because I don't have the tactile feel that I would with a normal keyboard. I miss key quite a bit because I can't feel where a specific key should be.

    1) does anybody have a home made remedy
    2) would a silicone keyboard cover from ebay resolve this?

I did some quick searches and nothing came up. Has anybody gotten the keyboard cover for the AS1410?

I have. I'll take a picture when I get back from work.

Alright, the Windows OEM sticker on the bottom of my Acer is peeling off, maybe from the cheap adhesive or from the heat. Any recommendation for what I should use to keep that sticker on my Acer? I've been looking around at the art supply stuff but I don't know how safe they are when it comes to plastic and heat.

EDIT: Ok pictures. I got these for like $4 off ebay. Took about 2 weeks to get it. Fits perfectly, it gives my keyboard some grip. Its pretty durable, thin, pretty transparent. If anyone used silicone stuff before, you should know how much lint it picks up. Next to it is my iPod Touch with a new RebelTouch case I got today. Big upgrade over the old silicone case I had.

Lancer Evo, which would you say has better performance, the SU2300 in your AS1410, or the Neo x2 in your DM3z?

    nuuser,
Better to save it than lose it, but they can be a pain to remove intact. I think that "legally" it's supposed to remain attached but, well it happens. Probably best in the long run to cover/seal it in/on.

When it started peeling on mine, it easily came off. Now its safely stuck on the inside of the HDD cover. For some reason it sticks better there.

    I have tested it ...
It can provide only stereo sound through HDMI or SPDIF ... NO MULTICHANNEL SOUND ... so it is not usable for home cinema with multichannel sound (AV receiver etc) ... just for connecting directly to TV ...

    Hi all :)

new here. sorry if this was discussed before, but i failed to find any solution through the hundreds of pages in this thread. anyway i bought the 1810TZ last week and both BatteryBar and Everest shows that i have a 5% battery wear out of the box. So i made a complain at Acer and they gave me 1 to 1 exchange for a new battery instead. However with this new battery both program still shows that i have 5% battery wear. Is this normal? Cause im actually done dealing with this, but maybe just one final effort maybe, haha. Hopefully nothing is wrong.

p/s: btw for my last battery they did their test at ACER HQ here in Malaysia and they say that the battery failed.

5% battery wear on a new battery is not abnormal.

You could try to deepcycle it once or twice, I've once had succes with that.

Doesn't the computer suck air through the keyboard area? If you cover it with rubber...will that not heat up your laptop?

Go into the synaptics program in your mouse driver area....then disable all special scrolling options except for the few that you would actually use.

Does it feel better for touch typing? I almost think the real issue is the lack of space between the surface area of the keys.

YIKES! Can someone confirm that? I don't have it with me right now.

Not a bad idea, but I'm going to see how much clearance there is between the screen and keys when the lid is shut. I have an idea that will probably hose my warranty, but I'm going to try.

Hmm, never thought about that. I've been using 1810tray and the temperature reading has been the same, +/- 1C.
The dm3z I gave to my sister. Its in LA right now. I was using the dm3z for 2 weeks, and I had it a while before I got the AS1410. Take my opinions with a grain of salt, since I didn't use any benchmark tools. The Intel SU2300 feels quicker than the AMD Athlon Neo L335, despite the core speed difference. In terms of opening files and movies, the SU2300 feels more responsive. The Athlon Neo L335 isn't slow by any means, I just feel the SU2300 has the edge. Though I like the Athlon Neo L335 / Radeon HD3200 combo a lot.

    RE: keyboards.

I do some development on my 1410. I had a hard time with the keyboard at first, but you get use to it after some time. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you spend all day at a desktop.

only netbook suck air through keyboard( like my eee 1000h or dell mini9).
notebook line like the acer 1410 does not have this problem.

you could try by taking off the rubber , close the lid while keep the laptop running.

Hello, I got my 1810TZ a few days ago and have been very happy with it except that the battery life has not quite been as good as I expected. Today I thought I would have a look at the resource monitor and see if anything was eating the CPU.
Well I found that the Vodafone software was eating a bit but I found something more concerning. The maximum frequency seems to be locked between 90 and 93% even though the windows power settings are set to min 0% to 100% max. This is on Windows 7 Home Premium (which came preinstalled).
Has anyone else seen this issue? I restored to the factory image and no difference so restored the latest backup from the home server.

Double check the power advanced settings...There is a place where you can limit the CPU frequency...not sure if there is a limit set on yours for some reason..

On the battery bar, click More Power Options, then your 3 catogories will com eup, power saver, bal, performance. Click Change Plan Settings on the category you're having problems with or want to adjust. Then in that menue, click Advanced power savings, and you'll have a wide variety of adjustments you can make to fine tune.

Also, double check you graphics power settings are correct. For Plug In you want Maximum battery life.

Could anyone who has a 1410 (or heck, try it on the 1810 too) pretty please go to battery mode, power saver, and put their brightness at 3 notches up from the lowest setting. Do you notice flickering? I can see it at almost any brightness level, and it's still there when plugged in, but doesn't seem quite as bad. I really don't want to deal with acer support and warranty work on it.. I need to know if this is the 'norm'.

anyone have problem with the microphone on 1410? My volume is extremely low even at 100% +30db. Have tried all the drivers from 2.37-2.40, also another working external microphone from my desktop. Still almost unusable.

Has anyone bought a skin for their 1410 from skinit.com. They list the model exactly but I want to know how it fits. I might just go somewhere else and get one that is a little bigger and cut it to fit myself.

Does anyone know if ANY of the 1810 configurations include Win 7 64 Bit.

It is kind of dissappointing that any retailer would sella 4gb system without that automatically.

So Creative Labs X-fi USB solution outputs spdif digital via optical tosslink 5.1 DTS perfect for you with this $50 device? Compatible with win 7 64 bit? No lag problem on audio? Are you using the software that comes with the creative device? I hear it can be problematic but works fine without it. I understand it can use allot of cpu power. Can it still output 1080p mkv video with 1.3 Mbps DTS audio without getting choppy? I Desperately need to know if I should get this device or refuse shipment of my Acer su 2300 1410 laptop when it arrives via UPS and get something else for my HTPC.

I just read from someone: DOES NOT DO TRUE 5.1 (it will not output dolby digital (or any other 5.1 codec)
-Awful support, took me over a month of dealing with Creative's worthless support to find out that it doesn't support 5.1 from a source (like a blu ray or dvd), it just takes the stereo signal and "recreates 5.1" (which is not actually surround sound)
So the long and short is, if you want surround sound, this doesn't do it.
    IS THIS TRUE?

I wish it was that easy. I have checked and tripple checked the CPU frequency but it just makes no difference. Beginging to think that there is something wrong with the mobo on this unit :(
I am going to try installing Vista from scratch to rule out the OS but I do not hold much hope.

All I can compare it to is my previous soundcard in my desktop that I used the same set of speakers on. I can't really notice a difference. That card was a SB Live! 24-bit with 5.1. I use creative's windows 7 drivers for it and they work fine. Doesn't bog down the system from what I can tell (though I have a 1810T). With an optical cable, I connected to the logitech receiver and I was able to get Dolby when I played a DVD through my external drive and connected to a TV via HDMI (720p). Not sure if it can output 1080p mkv video without lag, and I can't test that because the sound card is at my college residence and I'm currently home. I also have a few DTS tracks that I can't test either because I'm not there.

Clearly, for $50, it won't be the be-all end-all solution to amazing 5.1 sound, but in my honest opinion, I think it gets the job done. It's up to you whether you want to return your laptop or try this card out.

I just noticed that SPDIF lettering next to the headphone jack. I am curious as to what I can do with this myself. Anybody know?

Not sure what you're used to but the 1410's have a so called "green" charger that's a lower charge rate. FWIW best non clocked estimate I can give for mine is about 3hrs from around 25% w/ laptop on. And that may be why so many Dell laptop batteries die an early death (charging too fast).

my 1410 came with 65w charger and also 56Ah battery. In Brazil all 1410 came with that package.
