Excellent news! Previous poster must have been wrong. Thanks so much. Now I don't have to refuse my 1410 shipment due to arrive tomorrow. Should be a great portable HTPC!

Has anyone found an inexpensive source for a 2nd charger / power brick for the 1810T?

Is it possible to upgrade the CPU in the AS1810T-8638? Or is the SU7300 soldered in?

OK I just want to perform a sanity check before I sent my new 1810 back for repair.
Can someone that has a 1810TZ please go into resource monitor and confirm that the CPU frequency (not usage) does go below 88%?
I did a test and I can get 8+ hours out of the laptop but only just so I am not 100% sure if Windows is just providing wrong info for some reason or in fact this unit does have a problem.

Well I have just made a very interesting discovery. In the office we have 4 machines with Windows 7. Two of them have the exact same issue as the laptop where as the other two work correctly.

Nety, Check the setting in power management under processor(go to advanced settings), I bet it's set to 100%.
Also be sure that the chipset drivers are installed and any throttling settings in bios are active.

Sorry as this thread is about all sorts of things to do with 1410 and 1810's my previous posts are a while back however not that is not the issue. It makes no difference what the CPU power options are set to.
I really need someone else that has the same hardware to confirm if their laptop does or does not work correctly in this regard.
    CPU is the U4100

This one has worked fine for me for several months now. It's a 2 prong adapter and is actually a bit smaller than the official (and more expensive) Acer model.

I believe the adapter in the 14/1810 is the same as at least some of the Aspire One adapters.

Sorry, just put that out as a general tip. I don't know the specs of that cpu in the 1810 but hopfully you have a better situation than the su2300(no speedstep  ). What I said has helped out more than a few desktop pc's I've worked on. But I'm with ya, I'd love to get mine down to...say half speed at idle  Good luck to ya.

so far pretty content w/ my 1410, if it weren't for the obnoxious idle noise from the HDD, that wasn't as prevalent in my last exchanged 1410 nor in my acer 4810.

I suppose its due to the cramped space, but... still annoying nonetheless. I've tried two WD scorpios and now I'm running a 500GB Samsung -- all about the same. I think I'll ultimately go to SSD when they come down significantly in price in the TRIM 225GB+ models.

The SU2300 has no speed step?! Yikes... that would explain the 'celeron moniker' I suppose those at intel figured since it's ULV anyway, why bother? Boy what a shame though... so, the power settings in win 7 (i.e. minimum and maximum processor state) have no bearing on this processor? What about the single core SU2700? If SU2700 has speed step, that would explain the much increased battery life in the 4810, but boy is that nonsensical!

    http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=42779

Intel lists it as enhanced speedstep though I do notice it's always reported at 1.2ghz...

The SU2300 does have speedstep, every new Intel cpu except Celeron's have it. Maybe in the SU2300 it just does not work well.

SU2300 does have speedstep, its just that only the voltage changes. Check the first post of this thread for a nice table showing the features of SU2300, SU4100, and SU7300.

I use CrystalCPUID to set the CPU voltage to the lowest possible volt and set in task scheduler to change the voltage on bootup and leave it at that. Same thing can be done with RMClock, I'm just more used to CrystalCPUID(Unsetable voltages will be shown with a (X) mark so its easy to see, at least in my opinion. The voltage shown on the Speedstep setup menu of CrystalCPUID is higher than the actual value, but is not a problem. Its just the program misunderstanding the values, if you want to see the actual voltage you can always use CPU-Z. ).

Its more likely that their getting rid of the SU2300 since its 1)1.2GHz was a bit too slow (at least on paper) for the PC vendors liking 2)It supports VT-x, where the "upper" Pentium SU4100 doesnt 3)Arrandale ULV is about to hit the market, the CeleronULV version around 2010 Q2.

Interesting... thought the SU2300 was just ramping up for low-cost/performance ULV machines.
    Amazon just listed a new AS1410-2990 model with SU2300 & 250 HD at $449.

I'm about to rcommend either the 1410 or 1810 to my employer, but he insists on Windows XP.

Does Acer have a downgrade program?

    Thanks!

Amazon is charging too much on this one.

Anyone find the any HDD vibrates the 1410 chassis way too much?

    Hello All,

I just bought the Olympic Edition 1810t with the SU7300. Love it! I had to return the first one, since I was having trackpad issues (non responsive, randomly re-size things - no driver updates helped, and the new unit is great out of the box).

So far I uninstalled a bunch of Acer crap, Windows Updated, installed the newest Intel graphics drivers (I have the wake up error, so I will have to install a crappier version), and Haali media splitter.

Output to HDMI is amazing and I was able to play the Planet Earth MKV flawlessly (tried also with Splash Player, which was crap).

If anyone has any questions let me know! I'm looking to do more tweaking in the coming days.

I noticed it about the third time I booted it up. I suspect it's been there since it was new, but I was too excited playing with the 'new toy' to notice it at first.

I can see the flicker in BIOS, so I know it's not a software issue.

my 1410 just did something odd. I seemingly shut down by itself, unless there is a keyboard shortcut that I accidently hit. Then, when I restarted, the battery icon said it was plugged in and charging (77%) but it was not plugged in. I turned it off, removed the battery, put it back in and restarted, and now it seems fine...
    any thoughts what happened?

Mentioned only because its a brand new SU2300 model. (with a 250GB, not the 160GB)

For US folks looking for a deal, the AS1410-2099 SU2300 160GB
is $338 plus tax after 15% Bing cash back at Walmart.
But you need to act fast and follow the process here to get the good price.

Err.. that was fast. Now out of stock.

I ended up buying a genuine Lite-On HP-A0301R3 from ebay for $23.39. My 1810T came with a HiPro HP-A0301R3, but the two should be identical in function and both shipped with Acer machines. For the small cost premium over a 3rd party adapter, I wanted to get a genuine Acer adapter.

All I meant was the su2300 don't have the "real" speedstep that "most" intels have(no frequency change). I did setup a 9.0v shortcut in CrystalCPUID and just tossed it in the startup folder and checked it with HWiNFO32 to make sure the voltage IS 9.0v on startup, it was just easier that messing with task scheduler :) I loved rmclock on my last amd that supported clock changes, having the realtime cpu freq in the tray was kinda cool but oh well.

This is my first post on here so for starters hello to everyone.

I currently use an Asus 1000HE netbook but have been looking to upgrade to something that can handle light HD video editing. I'm moving to Tokyo, Japan in about 2 months and plan on making simple videos to throw up on youtube. All I really need is to be able to add simple titles and some background music. The type of camera will be along the lines of one of the Flip Mino style "blogger" cameras.

Is this something the SU2300 equipped units can handle? Keep in mind I don't need blazing speed as I'll only be splicing together 10 minute long videos at the most.

    Thanks in advance.

Just got my new 1410. Battery life says %70. Do I drain battery before charging for the first time? I understand for the first 3 charges it's best to do a full charge and continue charging for awhile even after reaching %100. My question is exactly how much longer? In other words- how many hours should I charge during these first 3 charges? And yes I know for these first 3 charges it's best to let it fully drain before recharging. Thanks.

Batteries have probably been cycled (charged/discharged) a dozen time before they are even shipped to the laptop manufacturer. By the time you get them, they've been cycled enough.

But if you must, I would NEVER let a Li-Ion battery go below 10%. Just my personal opinion from have worked at an electronics retailer in the past and being a gadget freak. Just don't get in the habit of leaving it plugged in when it doesn't need to be. The "trickle" charge seems to do more damage then good.

The seller has pretty good ratings. My experience with overseas (to the US) shippers is that things can arrive in a fairly leisurely manner. Being an instant gratification kind of person, I often pick closer sellers.

Don't know about the battery rating...

Its availability is extremely limited and retailers who do actually have it in stock are price gouging. Might as well pick up an Asus UL30A at that price.

I bought a battery for Acer Aspire One from this seller about one year ago. Shipping is very quick and battery was holding more charge than mentioned in the auction! I'd give A+ for service.

OK, the 1410-2990 arrived with the SU2300 and a 250GB as specified. 30GB of the drive seemed to already be "eaten" by the OS and a ton of bloat. 64-bit Win 7 installed and first boot from box took about 25 sec. Bluetooth button and indicator present, but functionality not as the module is not installed. I may grab one off Ebay and do it myself.

Any other questions about this little bugger, let me know. [email protected]
