I Cant get 5.1 DTS spdif audio on my Windows 7 1410 Acer using ac3 with toslink into receiver. Under config speakers with windows media center I setup 5.1 speakers and clicked test and I did get a specific sound to all my speakers through my receiver. Also when I click speaker icon on bottom right of screen to get realtek digital output properties/ supported formats - I click test sound for DTS and I also get a seperate ping to my 5 speakers. Under realtek advanced tab however I notice default format is limited to two channel.

Under ac3 filter config main tab I set speakers to 5.1 and checked use spdif. Under spdif tab I checked use spdif output format to 5.1. spdif passthrough I checked DTS and AC3. Under spdif/DTS mode I tried all 3 settings- auto/padded/wrapped. I'm only getting 2 channel digital audio. I think AC3 is not working right because while playing a DTS movie I don't see a AC3 icon on system tray and when I turn on ac3 config while still watching movie SPDIF status says No data and I don't see any green spike bars for audio levals.

Yeah, Acer agrees. Though seemingly they've lost my registration though they say that yeah, my serial number is good. From the experiences people have had I'm really nervous about sending it in for warranty work... sounds like they expect me to send it with the HDD but should I remove the battery and not send the power cord?

Has anybody have issues with upgrading the 1410 to 4GB DDR2-800? I bought a pair of Kingston 2GB DDR2-800 modules and can't get the notebook to boot up.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried each module separately and sure enough, one of them will not let the notebook boot up. Just got back from Fry's with a new one and all is well.

I have to admit, I am a bit leery of Acer notebooks in the past, but this one is really appealing.

Hey, I got the same model from Amazon last week. The advertised specs list the memory as 2GB running at 667 MHz but once I opened it up out of curiosity, I noticed that the laptop comes equipped with 2x1GB sticks of 800Mhz memory. cpu-id shows the same (albeit it's CL6 not CL5). That was a nice surprise anyway!

The specs at Amazon say the wireless card is 802.11a/b/g/n. Is that correct? Can you tell which card it is? Intel? Model?

32-bit boots faster and shuts down slightly faster than 64-bit.

battery consumption, i have no idea. but I would guess 32-bit would save you some battery life if you run mostly 32-bit apps.

Here's a good benchmark between the two:

maybe ac3 filter is decoding the signal instead of passing it to the output- I don't have any standalone codecs installed, I just set "realtek digital output" as the default playback device, set the volume to 100, checked dolby digital/DTS in encoded formats, disabled all sound effects, and checked "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device. Since no codecs are installed, it seems that windows media centre simply sends the AC3/DTS straight to the S/PDIF output. I was also able to get it to work with MPC-HC by setting the AC3 filter to SPDIF mode.

Video rendering is going to kick on the 64bit as long as you have the appropriate plug ins etc. Even java is like 10% faster supposedly.

In my search to get DTS spdif I did the following:
I downloaded two 5.1 Surround Test Files from http://www.lynnemusic.com/surround.html. One was a wma file and one was a ac3 file. When I played the wma file I still only get 2 channel audio and the AC3 tray icon fails to launch just like my mkv DTS movies. When I play the AC3 test file I get correct 5.1 surround sound and AC3 tray icon does launch. So I't seems I need to force AC3 to work on certain file types.
Does this url give accurate directions to enable AC3 in windows media player/center? :
    http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/02/using...ia-center.html
Will I be better off If I uninstall AC3 and use ffdshow audio only portion for spdif and continue using divx preview for video? This is for playback of my mkv DTS movies on windows media player and windows media center.

My Trackpad doesn't work! This is what I get in the Synaptics Pressure Graph:
The right side detects more pressure than the left side.
The maximum pressure is about 1/3 of the graph height.
At times it still detects slight pressure, even though there is nothing touching the pad.
Is this a hardware issue? I'm ready to return my second unit.

My almost new 1810TZ SU4100 is sitting here.
Only updated to the current BIOS.

It runs this S10-3T video perfectly at 720p, but stops and starts at 1080p.

Are there some simple things can I do to enable this 1080p video?

Actually, I tried the 2021 Intel graphics, but needed to revert due to the
vertical "ribbon" distortions as detailed here a few pages back.

I only wish to learn how to view that simple 1080p video at 1080p on my stock 1810TZ.

sorry that's not possible with your current driver.

The CULVs can't play 1080p flash content without hardware acceleration, so to enable this, you'll need Adobe flash player 10.1 beta and a recent Intel driver, aka 1986 or later.

    Read here for more info.

    OK.. thanks for responding.
In spite of my Intel driver being 1908, the Flash Player 10.1 beta 2
reduced the choppy display by about 90%.
I'll fool around with Intel's drivers again when I've got time.

BTW... I guess I said it wrong in earlier posts.
Of course, I knew my 1810TZ could not display true 1080p.
I just wanted to find out if this machine could handle the downstream.

My Timeline 1810-6188 is expected to arrive Tuesday. I am glad the systems are now shipping with the SU9400 1.4 in Canada at least. I looked in the US and couldn't find them available with this processor yet and the price for these systems seems to be more expensive there.

I ended up getting mine for $705Cdn with these specs:

    SU9400 @ 1.4
    4Gb Ram@800Ghz
    400GbHD
    11.7" LED
    4500MHD
    HDMI/BT
    Win7Prem64Bt

and 20 bucks shipped ebay US Acer OEM keyboard

I also can't get AC3 to play. I was wondering if this hack would do the trick so that I can get 5.1 audio:
    http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/02/using...ia-center.html

But my problem may be because I'm using wmp/wmc as players. If someone uses other players wmpc hc ect... let me know if ac3 5.1 is working, thanks.

Lepton once commented on the 14/1810's bad headphone jack interference noise (due to location & cross mainboard cabling, etc).

Although it doesn't bother me when I'm listening to videos etc, I do like to "bypass" the circuit when listening to music for longs periods. Fortunately for me I once bought a " portable headphone amp" which just so happens to also act as an external sound card...

Yes, of course it's not intended as "the" solution for this particular problem, but I swear by this amp when using it with any & all of my portable multimedia players. It doesn't help having killer headphones if all you have to power them is the lightwieght op amp found in your average MP3 player / Notebook... ;)

Anyone bought the 1810-4484 Olympic edition config ? It's one the cheapest config ... SU4100 with 2gb of ram and a 250gb hd.

I just need a confirmation that the battery is indeed at 5600mah 6cell (rated at 8 hours of battery life). I wanna buy it from NCIX here in Canada but the specs ( http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=45414&promoid=1084) are saying: "6-cell Li-ion battery support up to 6-hour battery life".

I hope they didn't put in the smaller 6 cell from the 1410 line...

Les - oooh - SU9400?? Wouldn't it be nice if it had the new Intel HD graphics instead of 4500MHD. But, I assume the HD graphics have to be paired with an i3/i5/i7 proc? I also assume Intel has new CULV's but I haven't seen anything with their designation. Either way - my SU2300/4500 combo is still an order of magnitude faster than my H-P Mini 311/Ion... :)

Yes, Intel HD graphics must be paired with a Core i processor. And three have been announced so far, the Core i5-520UM, and the Core i7 620UM and 640UM. Asus is about to come out with a UL30JT with the Core i7's as options, and Fujitsu has a 12" with them.

I did a clean install of W7 32bit today on my nephews 1410. I upgraded the BIOS to the one that was included in the upgrade dvd version 3117W. It seems to me though that the fan has started to come on more. Which is the most quiet BIOS to use?

Forget trying to control the fan through the BIOS.Use the "1810 tray" application and you will forget that you have a fan.It works great.

Ok... I got this baby in my hands right now and I must say...see ya later Dell. I have spent the afternoon creating, transferring and fine tuning this baby and I am having a blast. First order of business of course was ripping out the HD and throwing in my Sammy SSD. From there it was changing the OS to Win7Ult64 Bit followed by all the HD drivers I could find, add in the BT keyboard and mouse, plug in the HDMI to the Phillips 50" and.....

Presto!!! I'm sitting back typing wirelessly into my bigscreen.

Actually, I just finished watching alot of video including some HD clips and I must say, I can't tell the diff between this and the M1330 I just gave my son (who is happy as crap right now).

I am not a fan of the bilingual keyboard but I have a US standard enroute from China right now...

As well, there is no heat to this system PERIOD!!! It is cool as heck with no fan noise. What a diff from the 1330 Boiler plate!!!

I haven't tested the battery yet but after an hour I am just below 85% and it still says I have 7 hours left. Woohoo!!!!!

    Here is a few piks...

Which one did you get Les? The 1410, or 1810? What are the specs? I'm seriously considering getting one.
