I highly doubt Acer is the one doing the gouging. I'd bet JR is the one trying to squeeze out a few more dollars.

Well, I have the 2300 on my 1410. I run Office 2010 beta 64bit, and it runs awesome & fast. Performance wise, these are awesome for everything except games. They can run many programs at once, office, a web browser, and a + a movie at the same time with ease. I had a 1.2 single core celeron on a dell 11z before this, and the 1410 trumps it no comparison.

I bought the Gateway version of the 1410 for my girlfriend, I prefer the chassis over the acer's. it's super nice, but the screen is kind of a semi-glossy rather than glossy, and I feel like the image isn't quite sharp and focused like my acer's 1410 screen. After a while, I'm getting a headache. Has anyone compared?

This 1810T model number business is just confusing, and needlessly so. Shame on Acer.

Here is what I find right now on the Acer website (2/10/2010), not counting the model AS1810TZ.

    http://us.acer.com/acer/productv.do...ctx1g.c2att92=447&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=662014091

    1. AS1810T-8638. I believe that this is one of the two original 1810T's which Amazon sold for $600.
    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium ; 64-bit version; Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor SU7300 (3MB L2 cache, 1.30 GHz, 800MHz FSB); 4GB (2/2) DDR2 667 SDRAM; 320GB hard drive; multi-in-one card reader; Acer® CineCrystal 11.6" (1366 x 768) TFT display; Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD; 802.11b/g/Draft-N WLAN, Bluetooth®, gigabit LAN, webcam; diamond _black_ chassis

    2. AS1810T-8679. I believe that this is one of the two original 1810T's which Amazon sold for $600.
    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium ; 64-bit version; Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor SU7300 (3MB L2 cache, 1.30 GHz, 800MHz FSB); 4GB (2/2) DDR2 667 SDRAM; 320GB hard drive; Multi-in-one card reader; Acer® CineCrystal 11.6" (1366 x 768) TFT display; Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD; 802.11b/g/Draft-N WLAN, Bluetooth®, gigabit LAN, webcam; sapphire _blue_ chassis

Note that the two above models show that they do _not_ have 802.11a and that they _do_ have bluetooth.

    3. AS1810T-8750 Amazon $680
    Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium ; 64-bit version; Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor SU7300 (3MB L2 cache, 1.30 GHz, 800MHz FSB); 4GB (2/2) DDR2 667 SDRAM; 320GB hard drive; Multi-in-one card reader; Acer® CineCrystal 11.6" (1366 x 768) TFT display; Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD; 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N WLAN, gigabit LAN, webcam; diamond _black_ chassis

    4. AS1810T-8488 Amazon $680
    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium ; 64-bit version; Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor SU7300 (3MB L2 cache, 1.30 GHz, 800MHz FSB); 4GB (2/2) DDR2 667 SDRAM; 320GB hard drive; Multi-in-one card reader; Acer® CineCrystal 11.6" (1366 x 768) TFT display; Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD; 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N WLAN, gigabit LAN, webcam; sapphire _blue_ chassis

    5. AS1810T-8459 Amazon $680
    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium ; 64-bit version; Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor SU7300 (3MB L2 cache, 1.30 GHz, 800MHz FSB); 4GB (2/2) DDR2 667 SDRAM; 320GB hard drive; Multi-in-one card reader; Acer® CineCrystal 11.6" (1366 x 768) TFT display; Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD; 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N WLAN, gigabit LAN, webcam; ruby _red_ chassis

Note that the three above models show that they _do_ have 802.11a and that they do _not_ have bluetooth!

    6. In today's local newspaper (2/10/10) I was surprised to find an advertisement by Acer -- half of a full page!

    Aspire Timeline Special Edition
    AS1810T-4008 MSRP $580
    Win 7 Home Premium
    11.6" HD CineCrystal
    Crystal Eye webcam
    audio Dolby Sound Room
    ultra-light, ultra-thin
    low power consumption processor

That's all the specs in the ad. I checked the Acer website and could not find this model. I called an Acer support telephone number and they had no info. I googled it and got nonsense responses.

    Questions:

    Does anyone have an -8750/8488/8459?

Do we really believe that they do not have bluetooth?

Does anyone have information about this apparently new -4008?

^^^ The 4008 is the Olympics version.

And my jaw has dropped. I just looked up the $680 models on Amazon. Barely anything makes them worth $80 more than what they cost a couple months ago.

Maybe the increased price of DDR2 memory pushed up the price? Or Acer is trying to get rid of stock before introducing Arrandale models?

    Yup, my jaw dropped too.

So if I understan correctly: in October of last year I paid $600 for an 1810T with DDR2800 and Bluetooth standard. Now $680 buys me that same exact model with DDR2667 and no Bluetooth? There's no way that higher DDR2 prices can translate into an $80 increase in MSRP and the removal of a key feature!

I think it's been said before, but Acer realized how much they were underselling the competition and jacked prices on their systems.

Yea.. pure and simple. Acer was the first with 11.6" ULVs and underpriced them by mistake.
~HP, ~Lenovo, Samsung, Toshiba, even ~Dell has them priced 10% to 25% higher.

Also.. Canadian company, BestDirect.ca, dropped their price almost $60 on the

$688 CD which converts to $649 US.

    > The 4008 is the Olympics version.

I'm puzzled. I can't find it on the Acer website. And google turns up virtually nothing. What's up with that? Is this a brand new model? If it's not, you'd expect to find some reference to it _somewhere_ on the internet.

I know people who want to buy an 1810T -- because of its specs. But the specs for the (apparently new) 8750/8488/8459 are _exactly backwards_ from the 8638/8679 with regard to 802.11a and bluetooth. Exactly backwards! Is that an error or not an error?

And _no specs_ for the 4008! As I mentioned, I googled it and came up with nothing useful. Even called Acer support. That was a waste of my time. I got someone who knew even less about it than I do.

People who are considering buying an 1810T aren't going to spend that kind of money unless they're sure of what they're getting.

Here is anothe puzzle. The (apparently new) 8750/8488/8459 say that they use the Core 2 Duo SU7300. Don't know about the (apparently new, and lower cost) 4008. But Intel's website on the SU7300 says "retired and discontinued, none available". How can that be?

@ jjoe - that "none available" means the product hasn't reached its end-of-life. The SU7300 is still being manufactured

Hmmm. Perhaps I'm too literal with Intel's English.
The dictionary defines discontinued as "terminated".
And how can "none available" mean "some available"?
Perhaps the Intel marketing droids have been reading George Orwell.
    Or Alice in Wonderland.

thundernet, that link points to the AS1810TZ-4008.
The Acer ad said "Acer Aspire AS1810T-4008".
I have it here in front of me now.

Perhaps it's a typo in the ad. The price ($100 less than the three new 1810T's) looks like a TZ price.
Good old Acer. You're just never sure what they're trying to say.

The pricing thing is kind of a confusing issue. In Canada the new releases of the 1810T are the Olympic Editions and all upgrades from the sister versions.

The new ones include 800mhz ram, 64 bit Win7, larger hard drives and ofcourse a much better finish yet...are cheaper.

On top of that, the top system here has the SU 9400 whereas it isnt offered Stateside at all for some reason....this being the same with bluetooth as it appears.

Here is an example of the top 1810T....

    NEW OLYMPIC RELEASE
$705US (out of Toronto and almost equal exchange)
    http://www.cdromshop.com/cdshop/desc/p.099802512125.html

    OLD STANDARD RELESE
    $772
    http://www.mostlydigital.ca/product...Intel-C2D-SU9400(3M-L2-cache,1.40G,800MHz-FSB)

The average for the Olympic 1810T-6188 is about $749 but I got a price match at the $705...

I was confused myself, but check out a P4 HT, which is clearly a discontinued model.

I am having some problems to run some connectivity softwarewith on 1810TZ (SU4100) with Win7 Pro (x64)

Since the SU4100 does not support virtualisation I am a bit stuck
Without this connectivity software I cannot work remotely.

    Question:
Is it possible to install Win XP PRO on a 1810TZ ?
If so does anybody know if there is a 64 bits version of this OS ? I would like to utilize the full 4GB RAM that I have

    Hey,
I just bought one of these from Ebuyer with the 160drive and 4gb ram.

I just noticed the left mouse click button is a lot "looser" than the right.. the right is quite sturdy and tough where as the left seems alittle soft... anyone elses like this?

I posted last week (shown above) about what I believe is overheating issues, and I was just using my computer to watch a TV show online and while watching my computer shut off. I used the CPUID Hardware Monitor program as suggested to check the temp's and after starting my computer back up again, the temperatures for both cores of the processor were 67 or 68 degrees C. I am thinking that is not normal.

What could be causing this to happen? I am running a clean install of Win7 Ultimate along with 4 GB of Crucial DDR 800 (PC 6400) RAM. Here is the link to the RAM I purchased: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148159

    Thanks for any help!

This is a LONG (and helpful) thread.

Looks like these things fit my needs for small travel budd for skype, email and the like - nothing real intensive.

The rest of the plan is to attach to a Denon 3808 receiver in my home theater via HDMI and port the video to a 58" plasma and I will be able to get excellent performance for Hulu, Netflix and internet as well as 720p / 1080p.

My choices appear to be :
    1410 w/su2300 2 core, 2GB (a bit less battery life than the 1810) $450
    1810TZ w/su4100, 3 GB $580
    1810T w/su7300, 4GB $680

For my needs, it seems to me that the 1810TZ would be plenty (I don't need VM). Sure would appreciate your input to help me choose.

Just bought the 1810TZ-4096 from Tiger Direct. Note that this SKU includes 4GB of memory rather than 3GB.

It is regularly $579 + ~$15 shipping = $594. However, using Bing cash back and TD's current free shipping promo, the price netted out to be $521. They have it in black, blue, red.

Best price I was able to find, especially with the extra 1 GB of memory, so I thought I'd pass the info along.

My 1410's fan is noticeably loud and bothersome to me when plugged in. On battery it's much quieter. From power management Iv'e applied passive cooling to plug in mode but this hasn't seemed to help. Any way to quiet the fan when plugged in?

Anybody know the webcam resolution between acer 1810 and 1410 version?
I heard there is mp difference: 0.3mp for 1810 and 1.3mp for 1410
is it true? or the mp is just the same for both US and EU version?
I only know there is this difference for the Acer one 200 ferrari.

can you confirm that? Thanks for help :)

With respect to the fan...could u not adjust the power options to 'passive' rather than 'active' cooling????

Prob seems to be that it throws the fan on as soon as it is plugged in...

Followed the instructions to buy the Gateway version of the 1810-TZ at Tiger Direct. In the cart TD shows a $.03 discount from the $550 price. What am I doing wrong or is the discount thru Bing no longer active? Thanks

Bing shows 8% discount rather than15%.

You won't see anything on the TD order. The Bing cash back account will receive the credit shortly after you place the order. Then you may need to wait for 60 days to use it. The way it is used is as follows:
    1) Let's say you have $30 in the Bing account and the 60 day period has passed and the credit is now usable.

    2) You buy something online for $100 using Paypal. Paypal looks in your Bing account for any eligible credits.

    3) In this case it sees $30, so it applies the credit to your transaction and your credit card is billed for $70.

You may want to go back into the term that Bing Cash Back has. There may be some details to get from the info that would help you.

Also - the cash back % is pretty fluid. Been right around 5%-8% most of this year. See 1-%-15% once in awhile. Probably won't get to some of the levels seen last year for awhile (35% - 45%).

Yea.. Bing cash back can change quickly, but this 15% is still being offered. I just checked.

Be sure to do the following...
    First
Remove everything from your TigerDirect Cart and log out.
    Then
Create or log into your Bing CashBack [bing.com] account.
    At Bing, search for "TigerDirect"
Click on the 15%-off notice in the right-hand column.
At TigerDirect, search for "EC1430u", and add to cart (you get 15% cb on anything you purchase)
You may need to wait 48 hours to see the cash back pending in your Bing account.

Deal details on the Gateway SU4100 for $448 are still here.

    Thanks Yus9

If you snooze you lose. By the time I got there again, early this AM they were "out of stock". I appreciate the info on how to do it. I will keep checking and maybe I can catch a deal in the future.

You're right, Les, if one switches to passive mode then the fan is much less of a nusance ;)

However... you owe it to yourself ("you" being all 14/1810T/Z owners) to check out Intek's 1810Tray 'cause this little app does quite a lot more than adjust the fan speed. It's really sick*, dooode

*Now a days, something that's totally sick is a good thing. Go figure... (from someone that dates back to the "gnarly" days... :p)

Actually, I believe it should show the Bing cashback amount throughout the entire checkout process (and on the product page itself) if it was correctly done... at least it always did for me and I never had any issues with Bing cashback.

Not only that, I had a link to associate the Bing cashback to my Live account immediately after I placed the order (there was a link on the order confirmation page) so it was convenient for me.

TigerDirect's Bing cashback implementation is one of the best I've experienced. Now if only they'd hurry up and get my Gateway® EC1454u shipped out to me (backordered :().

    Interesting.

I never received a notice that I got the cashback credit. I am in the process with Microsoft right now to get the credit. I provided all the info they need, so it should happen, but I was hoping for "automatic". This is the first time I have had problems with the process.

    New question.

With the 4 GB of memory coming in the 1810TZ I just ordered, the 64 bit Win 7OS should see it. So, Ihave some choices to make:

    1) Keep the 64 bit system as is and go through the pain of removing the bloatware.

    2) Do a wipe and clean install of a 64 bit system. What problems do I cause doing this?

    3) Sometime way back in this thread, I saw that Phil wiped the 64 bit system and installed a 32 bit system. He mentioned that solved some driver issues and seemed to be a bit quicker. What kinds of problems would this cause.

I know that 32 bits means the system will only see 3GB of memory, but I'm leaning that way because of the driver simplification.

    Whaddaya think?

Traveller....point taken but I haven't got the time right now to work through it. Im working on...dare I say.... a new Win7 Ultimate Tweak Guide.... to match the previous Vista guide...

Ray 3... I bought that exact system for my son and threw in 4Gb along with Win7Ult64Bit when it arrived this past Friday. There are no concerns whatsoever in finding drivers. If you have one, get a hold of me and I will help.

Hes loving that system for school....

    Thanks Les.

Wipe the drive and clean install for 64 bit or just try to dump the bloatware from the system that is already installed?

Also, I bought this thing because I am pretty sure this thing will plug into my home theater receiver via HDMI and give me internet, Hulu, Netflix in HD and w/o stuttering. Am I correct?

Yes...simply put in the new disk, boot from the disk and select a custom new installation. It will wipe it and install from a fresh drive.

All of the drivers are at Acer.

HDMI will be recognized instantly as soon as u plug it in. I use HDMI to my 22" monitor and to my 60" bigscreen via stereo.

Just curious, Where does this BING cash back money come from? The individual vendors? Microsoft? WHO? Anyone have any idea?
